Posting this for visibility. Game still works on linux/steam deck, if you had it installed before the update the version you had was the native port, now that it isn't available you can't launch it, but the windows executable still works under proton. Select the game from the library, go into properties, into the compatibility tab and click the button that says "Force the use of a specific Steam Play compatibility tool", then select the latest numbered proton version from the list, after that it will install the windows version, but it will launch with proton without issues. Once valve updates the verified tag you won't have to do this but for now it's the only workaround. Also, pretty good game, looking forward to the sequel.

Smart, tactile, and endlessly expandable; a few physics tumbles and a gentle difficulty curve keep the tension at simmer rather than boil, but Escape Simulator makes sleuthing with friends feel effortlessly fun. Rating: 8 / 10 I click-drag a bookcase, hear a soft clunk, and a secret hatch slides open—moments like that define Escape Simulator. Each room is a dense doll’s house of locks, ciphers, and hidden panels, and the controls feel built for curiosity: rotate any object freely, inspect every groove, and toss clutter aside without fear of breakage. Gravity-light physics make even casual rummaging satisfying, though the odd prop still jitters across the floor like a startled hamster when you drop it. Puzzle design walks a careful line between “ah-ha!” and accessibility. Most solutions hinge on observation and lateral thinking rather than deep logic-gate diagrams, so you rarely stall for long. That breeziness won’t push veteran escapers to the brink, but it does let co-op partners of mixed skill solve at the same clip, and the integrated hint toggle is there if your momentum ever flags. Longevity comes from quantity as much as quality. The core campaign has grown steadily through free updates and paid packs—Mayan, Magic, Wild West, and this year’s Detective suite—each adding rooms with fresh props and thematic twists. More importantly, the Steam Workshop now hosts well over 3,000 user-made escape rooms, ranging from five-minute brainteasers to multi-part sagas, all installable with a single click. In practice, that infinite supply turns the game into a perpetual puzzle club, especially once you rope in three friends for chaotic object-flinging co-op. Presentation strikes a tidy balance: bright materials keep clues readable, subtle ambient music steers the mood without intruding, and recent patches added granular graphics sliders plus smoother frame pacing on modest rigs. Quality-of-life touches—snap points for fiddly keys, auto-sorting inventory, and full key-rebinding—mean you spend more time solving and less time wrestling menus. DLCs slot in cleanly, and the upcoming sequel, due this October, promises a revamped editor for creators who’ve already hit the ceiling of the current toolkit. Criticisms are steady but slight: collision quirks can still scatter small parts into unreachable nooks, ultra-wide monitors need a community fix, and seasoned puzzlers may breeze through the official rooms in an afternoon before turning to Workshop content for real bite. Yet the game’s ever-expanding catalogue and friendly learning curve soften those blows. Escape Simulator might not lock you in a box of despair, but it hands you an endless shelf of clever little puzzle cubes—and invites you to share yours with the world.

Writing this late at night but holy cow is this game good. Like one day me and a friend thought to ourselves, "what if we can go through an entire escape room but its like a video game or something?". We first thought of ROBLOX because we wanted it to be a multiplayer experience but later we searched it up on steam and this was the first game that popped up. Literally everything we wanted packed in this game. All of its rooms had moments where me or my friend would go "watch this, I think i have it" and solve the puzzle after minutes of headscratching and not getting it. Super enjoyable! not quite 100/10 like my other reviews but ill give it 50/10 for beating ROBLOX.

Fun little escape room type game. There's a few paid DLC, several free expansions and a ton of community created rooms. Puzzles can range from easy to mind-numbingly difficult so there's something for everyone. The game is definitely better off enjoyed with a duo or group, all depending on your preference. There's also a range of accessibility and graphics options in case you need either. Not really much else to say, it's a fun game with a sequel being worked on now, hopefully that one is just as good

Why does this game no longer run on steam deck? I think I read it had something to do with the most recent updates? Can someone get this game to no longer say it's Steam Deck verified if it's completely untrue?

Escape Simulator made one thing very clear: I probably couldn’t escape a locked closet. Spent 2 minutes spinning a painting thinking it was a secret safe... it was just decoration. The puzzles are creative, the rooms are super fun, and clicking on everything and breaking stuff “just to check” is 100% part of the experience. 10/10 :)

I wanted to like this game. The environments, graphics, and background music really set the mood, the premise is awesome, and the puzzles start off intriguing. Unfortunately the mechanics are just too awkward: I was always bringing a tool to the place to use it, then dropping it on the floor instead of using it. Some things that are supposed to move just don't, like when you have to cross-wire the wires in the space station but they just can't be moved (restarting the game fixed that). Objects just disappear from my inventory, sometimes ones that are crucial to solving the puzzle (the shovel on Treasure Island did that -- they provided two shovels, but BOTH disappeared before I was done with things that needed to be dug). Finally the biggest problem is that many of the puzzles are ridiculously difficult or just not even possible. After discovering the answers from online walkthroughs, I was left time and time again smacking my forehead and saying "In 100 years in this room I still never would have found that" or "there was just no way to get that secret number out of that." Sorry, but the fun to frustration ratio fell in a place where I just can't recommend this game at all.

The game’s design is impressive, with different rooms and scenarios that challenge players’ thinking. Each escape room adds realism, while graphics and sound improve immersion. The collaborative aspect lets players team up with friends or family, enhancing communication and teamwork. This social element makes the game enjoyable and encourages strategy-sharing. Overall, Escape Simulator on Steam is a well-made, engaging puzzle game worth trying.

AMAZING ESCAPE ROOMS The puzzles are very well-made and have a huge variety without repeating themselves. Each room is very different from the others. You don’t get bored because there’s a great variety of puzzles. I didn’t expect it to be such a good game. It’s co-op. Also lots of rooms on workshop!!! The only downside is the control and some bugs, like when you drop an item on the floor and it disappears. (That happened to me once, but fortunately it was an item you just had to read and not use somewhere, so I found a picture of it online, read it, and managed to get out of the room.)

Super cute! Cute graphics and rooms. I like how you can interact with lots of stuff and pick up random pieces. I wish you could jump, but it is not hard to find ways to get on top of different obstacles. Great buy for the price! I love the fact that it has all of the tokens for additional achievements. My boyfriend solves the puzzles and I look for the tokens.

I really had so much fun playing this game! Also I love how the developing team and the gamer community keep creating and updating new escape rooms! I am grateful!

Very fun, both solo and co-op. Some of the puzzles are tricky, and they are very in-line with the theme of the room. However some of the maps that are not confined to a room give me terrible motion sickness. The anti-motion sickness settings in the game help a bit but ruins the immersiveness of the game.

Perfect coop escape room with progressive levels of difficulty. Controls are a little tricky at first but once you have them, its an excellent game.

The puzzles are fun and (mostly) intuitive, but never gave my friend and I any problems. Runs smoothly, thought the controls can be wonky sometimes. Overall, a great game with seemingly endless rooms with the community maps!

I really want to like it, 'cause the puzzles themselves are excellent, but to me, it doesn't feel very good to control. I'll always recommend it, but everything is a bit too stiff for me, though I can see how the constraints could be something that other people would feel as "tight controls"

Escape Simulator Review – A Surprisingly Immersive Puzzle Experience I didn’t expect this game to feel so much like a real escape room, but it does — in the best way possible. The puzzles are clever, often intuitive, and sometimes even require you to break out a notepad (yes, seriously). There’s a pin feature that helps keep clues visible, but there are moments where you just have to think, observe, and connect the dots manually, which I loved. So far I’ve only played solo, but it’s made me genuinely excited to try multiplayer. The idea of solving puzzles together in real time sounds like a blast. The variety of rooms is impressive: Egyptian tombs, magic-filled graveyards, high-tech sci-fi labs that give off Portal vibes — all with great visual design and satisfying environmental storytelling. Some rooms even transform as you solve them, which adds to the immersion. I didn’t pay much attention to the music, but the visuals and themes were charming and consistent across the board. The hint system works well — optional, non-intrusive, and situationally helpful when you’re stuck or short on time. That said, the inventory/UI is clunky at times. I sometimes felt like I was solving how to use the controls more than the puzzles themselves. Object handling, zooming in/out, and rotating items could all use more polish. I haven’t tried the community-made rooms or the level editor yet, but I’m excited to. They seem like the key to long-term replayability, since the base game’s puzzles are one-and-done once solved. But honestly? Even if you only play the base content, it still feels worth the price — cheaper (and in some ways more satisfying) than some physical escape rooms I’ve done. Highly recommend to fans of puzzle games, escape rooms, or anyone who wants something clever and low-stress to relax with for 15–30 minutes at a time.

Really like this. Love the fact there are lots of workshop rooms to download and play as well. The big negative is that on a large screen, with us all watching, we all felt motion sickness, all of us. Some really badly. I've tried the suggestions to reduce motion sickness but on a big screen, it's just too much. Works well if you just share your screen in a video call with friends. hope it's resolved in version 2.

The puzzles are good : not too easy, not too hard. The mechanics are accessible and everyone should be able to learn the game quickly. I love escape rooms so I thought this game had all the elements to become a favourite of mine. Unfortunately, I felt a bit underwhelmed and I can't put my finger on why. Maybe it's the size of the rooms : a bit too small, gets too crowded quickly. Maybe it's the tone of the game : a bit too generic, not enough personality to make it engaging beyond the puzzles themselves. There's a lot of potential and most people will enjoy it (which is why I'm giving it a thumbs up), but it just wasn't for me. That being said, I'll keep an eye on the sequel when it comes out to see if they improved on the first version.

I am a big fan of escape rooms. This has become my favorite game on any platform! I play a room to unwind when I'm stressed. The game is just the right amount of difficulty to where I'm challenged, but I can usually also figure it out. I'm looking forward to the second game when it comes out!

this continues to be one of my favorite games. I've come back to it time and time again over the past few years. pretty much since finishing the main content of the game i've only come back when they add free levels (which has happened a lot and is always such a treat!). sometimes i'll do the player-created levels and i usually don't like them as much as the official levels but generally speaking they've been really creative and fun. if you like escape room games, this is a no-brainer. i've played many many escape room games and this is easily my favorite. so excited for the sequel!! :)
