I really wanted to love this game. Visually, it's stunning. Easily the best-looking farming sim out there, hands down. The character designs, environments, and overall aesthetic are beautiful. There's also a ton of stuff to do, with the merfolk content adding great longevity, and some genuinely fantastic festivals full of outfits and collectibles.
However, despite multiple attempts to fully dive in, I repeatedly found myself losing interest. This last time, I really gave it a serious push, and initially, I genuinely enjoyed myself. Clearing the ocean and seeing the beach transform was rewarding visually, but then the townsfolk barely reacted. They'd casually remark, "Interesting, the beach is clean now.. cool!" and then immediately go back to treating you like just some random farmer. You can literally become the most successful person in town, and yet the townspeople only drop a couple of generic lines and then completely ignore your accomplishments. It makes your efforts feel completely pointless.
The characters themselves are disappointingly shallow and stuck in Disney-esque scenarios. It's honestly frustrating how juvenile their storylines feel, especially considering most of the player base likely grew up on Harvest Moon and are now adults. One character’s entire plot revolves around a baking contest, and their next four cutscenes obsessively focus only on that. There's nothing meaningful about who they are, why they're in the town, or their motivations; just repetitive, superficial dialogue.
Gameplay-wise, the fishing mechanic is terrible. I absolutely loved fishing in Stardew Valley, but here it felt so broken that I just leveled up to 10 using nets instead. Bug-catching isn't any better; the cone radius feels awkwardly narrow and inaccurate. You’ll clearly be right on top of a bug, but somehow miss entirely, and it just flies away. It makes zero sense and is consistently frustrating.
Combat has potential but suffers badly from hit detection issues. Enemies on new floors often remain asleep and invincible for the first five seconds, then suddenly wake up and attack unpredictably, which makes cave diving feel annoying rather than exciting.
Automation is a bright spot. I really appreciate features like large chests, auto-petters, auto-grabbers, and general quality-of-life improvements. These do enhance the experience, but they aren't enough to overcome the other glaring flaws.
Ultimately, the game still feels like it's stuck in beta. It was so close to becoming one of my favorite games ever, but ended up feeling disappointingly shallow. If I don’t care about the town or its characters, why am I even playing?

I had high expectations for this game, but after buying it and finding out it was not even finished had WIP'S everywhere and they told people it was a finished game pay 30$ for it. now they make everyone wait 1yr between updates that arent even worth it or should have been in the game before they released it. and honestly I love early access games when they companies are HONEST about it and consistently update their game.

I can't recommend this game in good conscience, but there are good aspects about it. For now, I will say to hold off from purchasing it until at least 2026.
I purchased this game during early access and have periodically came back to it, especially during the 1.0 update that supposedly takes it out of early access. Despite being marketed as a full game since then, it was anything but that. The romance cut scenes are not romantic nor does it build any kind of relationship with your character. Rather, you are just a passerby to their lives, and I have no clue why/how you'll end up as close to the characters as you do. The writing feels superficial and the cut scenes feels lacking.
Secondly, even upon 1.0 release, the full story isn't completed, nor is the shrine. It still feels like early access to me, and to my disappointment, the "end game" stories
merfolk
are not finished yet. Other things promised in the kickstarter such as multiplayer, children, and pets are either not delivered on yet, or disappointing.
All the pets are based off of the dev teams' pets, which consists of identical looking pets (3 black cats but no orange or calico?), and very superficial interactions of just petting them. As someone that has waited and looked forward to the 1.0 drop, I can't help but feel severely disappointed and burnt.
Another unique thing coral island offer is the diving mechanic, that allows you to roam in the seas picking/mining underwater, which I was addicted to. Much like their ground mines, once you finish the levels, there isn't anything else to offer, and I never went back again unless I needed materials. It became something tedious instead of fun once you finished all the levels.
Farming, mining, and fishing follows the same formula as other farming sim games, if you experienced stardew valley, you likely experienced all these. Rearing animals feel the same as well, with auto petters and grabbers. There isn't much to comment on, you already know what to expect if you're familiar with farm sims.
Finally, the story is once again, formulaic and disappointing. It follows the typical "corporation bad, town good" storyline, although once you surpass it, it delves more into the fantastical aspects of the island which I enjoyed. You'll find "chests" scattered across the island which gives you some food, but there is nothing particularly interesting tool wise or new gameplay mechanics unlocked even as you progress in the game once you unlocked all the core ones. Once again, despite having fantastical aspects, the main character remains wholly boring, with majority of your gameplay being waking up, doing chores, and going back to sleep, with the occasional festival that doesn't quite break the monotony for me.
My conclusion to everyone considering purchasing the game is that is to hold off and let the game marinate for another year, but this game is not for anyone that wants deep, meaningful writing. The storyline is superficial, anything new to explore turns out disappointing, and it doesn't capture the magic of stardew that this game seems to be very closely emulating with their mechanics and references
concerned monkey? really? haha
. If you want a pretty game that you can zone out and just do chores in, perhaps this will be the perfect game for you. However, as someone that no longer wants to go back to play this game because I bought this game too early- if you're still interested, I recommend waiting so you can have the full experience without feeling like you have to restart a new save file.

i loveee this game so much. probably my favorite of the farming sims I've played, which is why it's SO ANNOYING that the devs still can't seem to sort out the bugs or flesh out the content more. the environment is great, i didn't even mind repeatedly cleaning the water for hours on end. However, the character interactions and story line need more work. Can't recommend other people to spend their money on this until the developers clean the game up, which i really hope they do.

Coral Island is a captivating and vibrant farming and life simulation game that breathes fresh air into the genre with its strong emphasis on environmental stewardship, community building, and rich storytelling. Developed by Stairway Games, this title invites players to escape to a lush, tropical island where they can cultivate their own farm, interact with diverse and well-developed characters, and embark on an engaging journey of restoration and exploration. The game’s setting—a colorful and ecologically diverse island inspired by real-world tropical environments—stands out as a key strength, featuring coral reefs, dense jungles, and picturesque beaches that create an immersive backdrop for the gameplay. Unlike many farming sims that focus solely on agriculture and town life, Coral Island integrates a meaningful narrative about ocean conservation and sustainability, encouraging players to actively participate in cleaning up and revitalizing the island’s delicate ecosystems.
Gameplay in Coral Island is a satisfying blend of traditional farming mechanics—planting crops, raising animals, fishing, and crafting—with fresh, unique activities such as coral reef restoration and diving expeditions. The farming system is deep yet accessible, offering a wide variety of crops and livestock to manage across different seasons. Players must balance their time and resources carefully, as they juggle farming duties alongside social interactions, quests, and environmental projects. The relationship-building component is robust, with a diverse cast of island residents, each with their own distinct personalities, backstories, and evolving story arcs. This social depth enriches the experience, making the community feel alive and dynamic, while romance options add a personal touch to the player’s journey.
Visually, Coral Island is a stunning showcase of vibrant art and attention to detail. The bright, cheerful palette and lovingly crafted environments evoke a strong sense of place and tranquility. The underwater exploration sequences are particularly noteworthy, offering a beautifully rendered glimpse into the rich marine life that the game seeks to protect. The soundtrack complements the visuals perfectly, featuring relaxing, tropical-inspired melodies that enhance the laid-back yet purposeful atmosphere of island life. The game’s interface is clean and intuitive, striking a good balance between depth and accessibility, allowing players to dive into complex systems without feeling overwhelmed.
One of the game’s most commendable features is its commitment to environmental themes, which are thoughtfully woven into gameplay and story. Players don’t just farm and socialize—they actively contribute to the island’s ecological health through coral restoration projects, beach cleanups, and sustainable farming practices. This adds an educational layer without feeling preachy, inspiring players to think about real-world environmental issues through engaging gameplay. Moreover, the procedural events and changing weather systems add variety and realism, ensuring that each day on the island brings new challenges and opportunities.
While Coral Island excels in many areas, it is still evolving, and some players may encounter minor bugs or desire deeper endgame content as the title continues to develop. The pacing, which balances relaxing farming with more involved quests and restoration efforts, might not suit everyone—those looking for purely fast-paced action may find it slower, but for fans of thoughtful, immersive sims, this pace is a feature rather than a flaw.
In conclusion, Coral Island is a beautifully crafted and heartfelt farming simulation that stands out for its rich environmental message, detailed world-building, and engaging character interactions. It offers a refreshing twist on the genre by blending classic farming and life sim elements with a meaningful ecological narrative and immersive exploration. For players seeking a relaxing yet purposeful gaming experience that celebrates community, nature, and personal growth, Coral Island provides an enchanting escape to a world where every action helps nurture both the land and the relationships that thrive upon it.

So here is review from someone that ACTUALLY plays the game, i have a lot of saves but my most played im currently on town B rank, all i can say is that all of the content i love, only fishing i find a little annoying but i understand they needed to do something different from others games, and catching insects is a bit annoying too.
But the rest is great i will begin from the romance since, some people say its boring when i think those people haven't even play the same game as me, the romace is amazing, throughtout the events with each dateable u get to know more their story which to me its the actual essential, ur not suppose to be the main character everywhere, then you can invite each dateable to hang out with u 2 times each week and its really amazing since it has a awesome variety of hangouts u can do, and for whoever says that the dateable u trying to romance doesnt acknowledge you, they actually do and they have special lines for you. specially when u get married to them.
Then the story is really interesting and it shows that the devs care about the enviroment, i wont spoil much but i definitely recommend you to play the game.
Then on a content aspect u have a lot, friendship/romance with npcs, u have the mines, the ocean, offerings and the museum, u also have so much upgrades u can have, u will never get bored of the game, my point is there is always stuff to do.
On a money aspect, yes some things are indeed expensive but to be completly honest with u, ITS SO EASY TO FARM MONEY, u just need to farm the last mine for osmium ore and u can get 20k a day for free, and yes the mines give u so much in return, u have a breakable object that appears in every level of the mine and it gives u random stuff it can give u insects, fish, even seeds from the season u are on, which is huge.
All the animations on the game are pretty casual and simple since its a cozy game made by INDIE devs, that work a lot to bring quality of life updates for the game and also the game is not suppose to be a hyper realistic game so trust me when i say they look good a smooth, specially when it rains is so beautiful seeing the water falling on the ground.
And to finish my review, play the game get to know the dateables since each of them has their own story and each one is unique in their away and probably you will even relate to some, they are such cuties <3.

Finally giving up on them.
A dev team full of promises and no deliveries.
I strongly believe multiplayer was never coming, and the game is going to stay in the state it is in.
They have given up on this. Play Stardew instead. Simple enough I guess

At this point i have played a little over 150 hours and i am still obsessed with this game. i love stardew but i think this farm simulation is, in my opinion, going to be much better. this game already has so many different quests and challenges, offerings, and the need to grow on land crops to make underwater crops to grow. its so much fun and i am still trying to finish this offerings and just unlocked more things. i can not wait to see all of the things that are coming out with the next update (hopefully soon?) and future ones.

After giving this game a bunch of time, I can say that it's not what it was hyped up to be (at least for me). I am hoping to return after it's had more time to bake but considering it's been in v1.0 for two years now, I'm not holding out hope.
In my eighteen or so hours, I experienced multiple crashes, freezing/hitching and bugs. Some of the character art is beautiful but some frankly looks unfinished or placeholder.
The first major plot arc of the story is almost a one to one copy of Stardew Valley. Main character gets land for free in a new place, goes to meet all the locals, finds hints of magical creatures in the town that only they can see, learns about big evil corporation that is looking to ruin the town for their own benefit. Thankfully there is some originality later on, but it left a very bad taste in my mouth.
From my understanding, this studio is continuing with major content updates such as multiplayer later in the year. I hope it's much more tested and comes with fixes for the base game - at which point, I'll gladly give it another go.

I love Coral Island! There are plenty of objectives to keep you playing for a while. The cutesy art style is definitely what sets it apart from other games such as Stardew Valley (which I also love).

I have been searching for years for a decent farming/life sim to succeed Stardew Valley and I think I've finally found it. Up until now, most games lost my interest or run out of content quickly, but this one really seems to have it all and then some. There is so much content to explore, tons of townsfolk (and cute animals) to get to know, mines to explore, an ocean floor to clean up and explore, many pets that you can adopt (you can have multiple pets at a time now too). The game is no longer in Early Access, but they still release major updates and have big plans for more (multiplayer, children growing up, etc.). Definitely a very full game to play now, with lots to look forward to.

Despite this game being released nearly 2 years ago it is not in a state I would expect from a complete game. There are constant bugs, balancing issues, and if you in any way tamper with the games settings you are forced to restart the game losing all progress for that day. It's a shame because the art style of the character profiles is very beautiful and I really enjoy the environmentally consciousness take the game makes.
I bought this game on sale for like $25 because I didn't think it was worth the $30 price point when I initially added it to my wishlist, and I have to unfortunately confirm that suspicion. This game still feels like it's in early access with bugs that should have been patched by now like unable-to-pick-up dropped items and janky movements that make the game feel far from fluid.
I do enjoy the collection. storytelling, and characters in this game. I felt like I was making genuine progress, but I agree with some other people here that the game takes awhile to fall into and I think that has a a lot to do with these bugs and stagnation of movement. Combat specifically is not fun due to the weird depth perception, and I'll have monsters do damage to me even after they die. Things like bug catching and tool use are also impacted by this.
This game takes clear inspiration from others like Stardew Valley and even makes points to improve where those games fall short, but in turn lacks what makes other farming games satisfying and enjoyable to play. There's a lot of potential here but in it's current state it is not worth the $30.

This game is set up to be the best farming sim out there. I've been playing since beta. Recently picked this game up again after the 1.0 release. There **are** bugs and it seems like there are more features to come. But there is SO much to do in this game. And I'm personally looking forward to the new things to come and I find that really exciting! This game has everything and is a super unique take on your classical cozy farming game.

This is a good iteration on the stardew valley formula in a FEW ways, but ultimately this is a time sink with no heart. None of the systems in the game are fun after the first few loops due to lack of development of these basic systems. Combat / mines are the worst I've seen in any farm game that has made it to 1.0.
Some cute / fun things here for the first year and then it's really not worth grinding through.
Really cute animations, character design etc, but the storytelling and even the dialogue between the villagers feels off.
Just keep working on your 100% Stardew Farm or give Fields of Mistria a shot. I would avoid this game unless you can score it very cheap, and wouldn't recommend playing beyond the first year.

My childhood was defined by playing the Harvest Moon franchise, in fact to this day my life goal is to retire in the country. Many games have tried to recapture and recreate that magic and some have come really close, I don't need to tell you how popular Stardew Valley is, however for me SDV lacked depth and after a while I would lose interest in it around the beginning or middle of the 2nd year of game play, meanwhile I'm at the start of 3rd year in Coral Island and still as hooked as ever.
The one thing that really stands out to me is that the cast of characters is massive, so much so that there's still a moment of pause I take whenever I get the notif across my screen that its soandso's birthday, as I try to remember who they are. I can usually decide who I'm going to marry by the second season of a game, because i'm basic and I have a type, but I'm still single because I cant decide between three candidates, which just goes to show how individual and unique each character is.
Another thing that is noteworthy is the antagonist in this game is very well done, while in SDV for example we were given no real reason to dislike Joja or morris [the only thing i can think of that shows us how 'evil' Joja really is is undercutting the local store by giving out coupons] you are given a list of very real reasons to dislike the antagonist of this game, however the antagonist isn't some caricature of some mustache twirling evil cackle villain but a real person, it is all too easy to imagine the scenario playing out in the real world.
Off the top of my head I cant really think of any real criticisms, there are a few things I would have liked to see done differently but that's just me being nit-picky and selfish.
TL;DR if youre a fan of the Farm Sim genre, this game is well worth your time

Coral Island is like a cozy hug in game form. You farm, fish, dive, and even help restore coral reefs — all while living your best island life. The characters are lovable (yes, romance is a thing), and the visuals? Chef’s kiss. It’s perfect if you love games like Stardew Valley but want something more tropical and modern. Still a few bugs here and there, but nothing game-breaking. Play it when you need to relax and escape reality for a while. 💆♀️🌊

I was on the fence about getting this game, but am so glad I did! There is so much to do, I have just reached the end of year one, and I am only just getting around to buying animals.
The graphics are beautiful, and mechanics of the game work well. The music in the game is nice, and doesn't play all the time which means it isn't irritating.
So far I have only found a few minor bugs, like not being able to put items up against the wall inside your house, it will let you on one side of the room, but not the other etc.
The other thing I really love about this game is that there are two options for a game day, so you can either have normal spread, or slow it down in the settings menu and have your days take twice as long giving you more time to explore mines, ocean etc.
The only thing I have found, that I am hoping they update, is that the main map doesn't expand one you unlock new areas. Which means you are wandering around in the "cloud" area.
I would thoroughly recommend this game if you want one that you can become immersed in with many, many hours of happy game play ahead of you!

I first brought this game when it first released to the public a few years ago. I wasn't very impressed back then it really didn't feel ready to come out. I got back on it in the last 24 hrs and have really enjoyed it. It's nice to see a developer continue with a project when it comes out in my opinion to early.
My only gripe with this game now is it is 2025 and games including this one doesn't give the player the ability to save when they want. With this game I either have to commit to playing through a whole day or forfeit what I have done for the day before I can save my progress.
I love the graphics and the game play loop. The options on how you you play is really nice, like how long the day last (this might take away some frustration with the save function however not all of it) and if you want monsters to be automatically aggro or just when you hit them.
I don't have that fancy computer and it runs well so is definitely accessible to most people.

I don't think i need to play more to validate my review but GOD it's fun
it's a legit copy of stardew valley but it's so refreshing, obviously have the better graphic and art design, easier feature to make you play the game quickly. even though the creator is from Indonesia, it's culture and art style is mixed from asia culture generally and they nailed it too
8/10, a foundation to make Indonesian game developer keep making a better game.

Wonderful game. The depth of characters is great the progression is fun and enjoyable and feels rewarding. It takes effort but I feel that is well rewarded. Currently a little over 100 hours in and still loving it in year 2. It's everything I've ever wanted from a cozy farm sim game. Def recommend to anyone wanting a well made farming "cozy" type game. I love the setting that lets you increase the amount of time you have in a day as that makes it feel like you aren't being rushed and actually have the time to do everything you want to in a day and still have some time left over to play with as you please. I do recommend this game whether is is on sale or even for full price, especially if you find yourself enjoying similar games from the category.

The game it's a lot of fun, but I've been putting a lot of hours into the game and it's starting to feel empty and tedious.
I do recommend the game in its current state though, just be cautious as it feels unfinished. Characters are bland and shallow but I read they're working on it. Some areas are completely pointless and a couple mechanics stop being fun and become incredibly tedious really quickly.
At first I thought, wow this game is huge it has a lot of content, but most content feels unfinished, and I can't help but feeling like a total stranger instead of part of the community. Yet, I'm optimistic as the developers are actively working on improving the game, so I'm sure it'll become an amazing farming game in a couple years, the issue is that right now still feels early access.

Lots of activities to do in game, my issue with farming games is the winter usually being a stale dead season, Coral Island has enough to entertain you through the month.
Having a slider where you can slow the day down is also really helpful.

I do really like this game and it has a ton of potential BUT there are some things people should know before getting. Its insanely grindy as far as money. I had to look up crop prices on the wiki since alot of crops are not worth their growth time or worth planting at all unless your a big errand or cooking person. Best thing to start on coin early game is animals products and bugs/fish and then bug house and fish pond to multiply high grades to sell, Literally farming sucks early on.
I though I was super bad at the game because it seemed like stuff you needed early game would be given to you in late game after you didn't need em or already crafted it. For example you move mad slow so you'd think to invest in the horse. The horse was 15k coins at the time of this review. Horse became a second though after I unlocked almost every teleport shrine before I got my first 10k coins. Even after unlocking shrines, movement is still super slow so eventually I do get the horse. Its kinda goes like that the majority of the game, you want or need thing its expensive to grind for, another thing comes up and makes expensive thing redundant, then you somehow get thing after the fact when you dont need it as much anymore.
The caves are kinda lame with no real challenge other than time, time speed by super fast and that serves as the main obstacle to do things but even before upgrading stamina, ill run out of day time long before ill even need to replenish stamina.
The diving into the ocean is my favorite bit but I can see how people would get sick of the trash grind pretty quick given you need more materials than you get to upgrade the tools that would make the clean up more manageable. I'm at the fourth underwater area so I can't speak on everything there yet.
I typically like most of the npc's, except the stuck up rich couple that talk to you like help, and the interactions but some others have mentioned even when dating it hardly feels like you are dating them. Same thing with the lack of bonding with pets other than petting them. I do like the snootiness of some of the characters since it adds variety to their personalities. Also a neat thing is the most you talk to the characters they actually tell you a little bit of the things they do like as a hint with gifts without using the wiki, it takes awhile but I like the idea of organically learning what they like from them rather than trial and error of pissing them off. Idk if hearts can decrease but I'd rather find out by misunderstanding them instead of blind guessing. The npc's and the diving were the main drawl for me because it seemed like a farming sim gear towards an older audience. Its funny stuff like coffee and beer decrease health and raises energy.I hope they continue to make improvements to make it sightly more mature.
Lastly, bugs and general modeling concerns. Bug wise I haven't encounter too many game breaking ones except having to enter and exit my barn because my damn cow was invisible or on top of other assets I couldn't interact with. I guess a bugs would be the repeating dialog from some characters regardless of how deep you are in the game. The other point of modeling is clothes. I dont wanna sound like a picky turd but some of the clothing construction is not good, I say this as a 3d modeling student in college. Either the clothes dont match their picture icons or fit awkwardly on the player model, not a terrible issue but some clothes fit like clothes and others dont. May just be the close up like how league of legends models are made with the top down perspective in mind and some of the clothes weren't meant to be looked at close up.
TLDR: The game overall is fun but grindy as hell, look up what you should sell as not everything it worth its time in coins. NPCs are fine but dialog doesn't change much after dating. Art is great, some models for clothes aren't. Rewards kinda mid late game and somewhat early game. Ocean is cool and pretty. Bugs vary but I didn't deal with many. Looking forward to updates!

I was really excited when I saw this game was coming out initially. The art looked great and seemed like there was a lot to do plus I liked the environmental aspect. I waited and didn't play it until after full release and found it really hard to get into. I initially only played a few days in spring before taking months off. I only recently got back into it. I kind of had to force myself to just play a few hours of it and get invested in making progress in the mines and ocean. While I really do like the design of all the characters and how diverse they are I just didn't really care about getting to know them. I also realized that progressing with all the characters was really easy. Just talking to them at festivals and every so often got me to four hearts with a few of them by the time I'm writing this review. For reference I'm almost at the end of Year 1.
The mines and ocean were easily my favorite part. It was mindless but the fact there really isn't a reward for finishing the mines was pretty annoying. Sure you can get resources there but thought it would open up something but no the thing you need to open is dependent on the offerings so I wasn't a fan of that. Finishing up the ocean opened up a lot of stuff...almost too much.
I didn't catch bugs or fish very much. Catching sea creatures was fine but bugs was pretty annoying. They would always detect me before I could catch them. Fishing was okay. It wasn't challenging, just tedious and took a long time.
All in all it was just okay. It's mindless, pretty grindy, but not very rewarding and has cute art style.

One of my most favorite games. Always something new to do.
NPC's have all their own personality which makes them interesting.
The Gameplay is also nice, only inventory management can get a bit tricky sometimes.
Other than that love the game and hope that developers stay on creating new content for this game.
There is still a lot of potential to make more out of the story, the island and it's characters. (also the evil ones)

I am enjoying this game so far. Art is pretty, farming is easy, but I have not yet tried everything out yet because I just got this game the day before but I am looking forward to seeing more.

This game is a gorgeous lovechild of Stardew Valley & Animal Crossing. Every time I go somewhere, I'm blown away by the beauty. The map is large & seamless with the different areas, there's a ton of stuff to do, a vast amount of NPCs, characters have "human" aspects like stretch marks and pudge, interactions are highly variable & cute, and the story is both relatable & charming. If you like Stardew Valley, you'll LOVE this game.

I put off buying it for a long time, but last year I bought it – and I definitely don’t regret it. This game is a little gem. ✨
Since it was in early access, there have been so many updates and a huge number of new things added. There’s an endless amount of things to do and just when you think you’ve finished the story… well, you haven’t! A whole new world opens up to you and gives you dozens and dozens more hours to play.
The biggest highlight of this game is the graphics. They’re cute, incredibly cute. The characters are also shown in a ‘Disney-style’ or ‘manga-style’ drawing in some part of the game, which I think adds a lot of charm to the game.
I honestly wouldn’t change a thing about this game. As someone who loved Stardew Valley so much, I see this as a prettier version (in my opinion), a bit more technically developed, with some aspects of the game made easier.
I loved spending all those hours playing it and I’m sure I’ll dive back in when the next big update comes out!
