Incredible. The visual artstyle is unparalleled, the music - enchanting. Highly recommended.
Just as a word of warning - the game is short (good for her) and you'd benefit from playing it all in one sitting. So, if you can, dedicate a day to it.

Gris is less of a video game and more of an interactive work of art. There is some light puzzle solving, but nothing too intense.
What makes Gris worth playing is the sheer beauty of the visuals. Every frame looks like a painting, one of the most aesthetically pleasing art styles I've seen in an indie game. It's also a super short experience at ~3 hours and goes on sale for super cheap.

The gameplay is a bit average, but the aesthetics are incredible and the vibes are immaculate. I would recommend for anyone interested in a game to empathize about grief with.

I'd give it a 6.5/10, but steam only has a 50/50 review system, and I would recommend it to certain people. GRIS is a very pretty game, and I enjoyed playing it. It was nice to look at and gameplay was decently fun toward the end, but I wasn't captivated like most others were. As a fan of LIMBO, Tchia, Stray, etc. games in which some could say "nothing happens," 50% of GRIS felt like it didn't do enough to justify itself as a game. The fact that it's an artsy game with a silent protagonist causes a lot of people to hype it up just for being obscure, but if the game doesn't do anything to show me what it's trying to represent, there's no way for me to resonate with it. It's just going to look like a bunch of beautiful nonsense. If the game told me in some way that the colors were the stages of grief, I would've enjoyed it a lot more, but reading it online afterward does nothing for me. I'm very open to proving myself wrong, and often believe that if everyone disagrees with my consensus, it means I'm wrong, so I will absolutely be replaying GRIS to hopefully see what everyone else does.

To enjoy a hauntingly beautiful game that has more subtext and subtlety than a submarine, do enjoy Gris. An audio/visual experience that can be enjoyed in just about 2.5 hours. I'm glad to have played this than have watched a movie that might not have been able to offer the same amount of satisfaction that I derived from this game.

This is hard. The game is visually gorgeous, and it has a decent premise, but I don't know if the gameplay lives up to it. It's certainly art, but is it a good *game*? Given the binary yes/no I lean ever so slightly towards no.
You're walking around through gorgeous landscapes with passable gameplay.
Get it on sale if you want a mediocre platformer in a gorgeous art gallery.

It was an unforgettable and unique visual and audio experience. The game is artsy as hell's heavens, and both the soundtrack and the visuals are unforgivably beautiful. I've never seen anything like it before, so I'm really fascinated by this title. The gameplay is also pleasant for me - I don’t like hardcore platformers, so the challenges here were pretty enjoyable and not frustrating.
So long, Gris. I hope you're going to be all right. And... miss you already.

This game is extremely beautiful
Aesthetically impressive, emotionally moving, relaxing, and kind...
The game is about overcoming depression, through watercolours and ruins.
Not that it might cure, but it could definitely help, like any other aesthetic and artistic experience, and this is definitely one.
If you are not depressed, you are definitely not paying attention.
Have a pinch of good art for some healing.
A must play and a must have.
Lest we learn to sing again

I could recommend the game. And I would.
BUT. I just couldn't finish it.
Why?
Character gets stuck multiple times -> Reload the game.
"Boss" bugs out so that you don't fall off a ledge -> Reload the game and spend half an hour to try to figure out a way to bypass the bug.
While walking, a companion produces sounds of object colliding faster than 500BPM. -> Not even reload fixes
And from Googling I'm not alone with these same bugs. I don't know what caused it but really killed the mood unfortunately.

Very pretty game and decent music. The art is seriously stunning and I love how watercolory it feels but it's so boring. So, so painfully boring.

Unless you REALLY like the art style I'd urge you to take a pass on this one even on a steep sale. It's just a boring walking simulator with bare bones mechanics.
It doesn't even give me any bread crumbs of a story to work off of. It's just a nothing burger that is use in a restaurants advertisement because it looks nice.
I have no idea why this game is as positively rated as it is on Steam.

An absolutely beautiful game. No dialogue in the game, the graphics do all the talking along with the soundtrack. The puzzles are fun, and it is relaxing to play. It was recommended to me, and I would recommend it as well.

Honestly? I'm surprised I didn't quite enjoy this as I thought I would. Thought it'd be a game that would surprise me, but it fell short.
First of all, as most negative reviews say, it's.. Not really a game. Don't get me wrong, it's beautiful: but I feel like it would've done more as an animated movie on YouTube rather than a steam game. That's just me, though.
Now, my actual gripe on the game:
The puzzles.
Either they're SUPER easy, (which, I don't mind. But super easy puzzles with the lack of overall gameplay just feels boring and "man I wonder when the next cutscene is gonna come in").
OR. They're not hard, but.. Vague. Super vague. And cause you to get stuck for like... Thirty minutes? Before you figure it out, and turns out the solution was braindead. (I'm looking at you, yellow.) It's also really easy to get softlocked in there.
The story itself wasn't too impactful to me, but it's unfair to put that in my review: it's pretty damn subjective what you think of the story. But overall? With all this combined? Not the game for me. Now I don't mind easy games and walking simulators: But I don't mind them when they're well made. Unfortunately, the only well made thing about this game is the breathtaking soundtrack and incredible animation/visuals. Fails at everything else in my book. And at the end of the day, I still had a cool experience with the visuals and audio. But still.... Yeah, don't get this full price (which I didn't, thankfully).

Calling this game beautiful almost feels like an understatement. From the visuals to the music to the animation, everything is crafted with such care and emotion. It's less of a game in the traditional sense and more of an experience, one the lingers long after the credits roll.
What really struck me was how the game tells a deeply personal and emotional story without using a single word. For me, it felt like a journey through grief, not necessarily of losing someone else, but rather of losing yourself, or a part of who you once were. That quiet kind of loss that can be even harder to name. GRIS captures that with such grace. The progression from muted colors to vibrant hues beautifully mirrors the process of healing. Slowly, piece by piece, you find your footing again. You rediscover strength, softness, and maybe hope.
That said, it's important to note that GRIS isn't going to be for everyone. The gameplay is very light on challenge. The platforming and puzzle elements are minimal and designed more to support the atmosphere than to provide difficulty or complexity. For some of you, that might feel slow or even boring. But for me, that simplicity allowed the emotional story to breathe and gave space for personal reflection.
I took so many screenshots because every frame felt like art. But more than that, this game made me feel something honest and human. If you're open to introspective, emotionally driven experiences and appreciate artistic design, I can't recommend this enough.
Thank you GRIS for giving me hope that even after everything, color always returns.

I have never wanted to recommend so quickly in my life, especially if you have battled mental health. The game perfectly captures what it feels like to be broken by depression, and to be left with no color, no light, and to have to build your identity and joy back up from what feels like nothing. To every step of the way be fighting the demons that tell you to turn back or give up. To make peace with the parts of yourself that broke you, and love them regardless. I haven't cried like this in a long time and I fear I never will from a game like this again.

Conrad Roset's artstyle is beautifully paired with Berlinist's music, and shows us a kinder and softer way to deal with grief. I got this ''game'' at launch but just didn't have it in me to play it till now, probably because 7 years ago I would have found this vapid.
You can take a screengrab almost anywhere and frame it, it feels like a meticulous painting, the music is on point. I would recommend playing it in one or two sittings. It took me a while to really get into it. The game is a little over 3 hours long.
Another thing I liked about it was that the problem solving requires ''de-focusing'' where you have to step back and literally look at the bigger picture as the screen zooms out. Occasionally you have to backtrack to go forward on your journey. GRIS is simple and beautiful and very well crafted.
Thank you to the team at Nomada for making this.

Going to go against the grain on GRIS - while I think the art and soundtrack of GRIS are fantastic, art and soundtrack do not a game make. The gameplay is so basic as to be nonexistent and the narrative, with the lack of text, is restricted to a very simplistic tale of grief, with each level being a different stage of grief. The whole game feels like it resents being a game - like being a game takes away from the art, so it should be as little of a game as possible.

Masterclass in show don't tell. Probably the most visually beautiful game I've ever played. Well worth it. Just know it's on the slower side so if you only ever want to speed through a game this is NOT the game for you. The more you take your time and explore the more rewarding it is.

i feel ashamed of myself for buying this at a low price because the 14.79 euro pricetag is more than fair.
absolute masterpiece and i will wait for the summer sale to end and then buy it as a gift for someone else bacause the developers deserve every penny and bit of attention it gets.
so if you are looking at the reviews trying to figure out if you should buy it, its a clear yes from me havent had this kind of experience since Outer Wilds and, honestly the fact that Gris as way shorter playtime made it kind of more enjoyable as it took me only 3 hours to finish (i did however have a pretty clean run with no problems along the journey so it might take you a lil longer than that), do not assume though that i rushed through the game.
this is propably the first game where i made use of the stick on my controller where i walked past ares instead of sprinting past them as it was a visual and acoustic masterpiece (even took some screenrecordings for possible backgrounds)
BUY IT

Overall. My understanding is that Gris is an emotional game about a girl suffering with her mental health dealing with trauma.
Pros
The game virtually looks stunning with a nice watercolour aesthetic
The story of the game has a very impactful and powerful meaning with its visualisation of the human mind
The idea off the dress shaping into different ways of gaining abilities is really creative
Cons
The puzzles though creative tend to be quite slow with their solutions
The movement speed is quite slow and there isn't a kind of dash where you cam move faster
overall i respect the quality of the game and its art style, symbolism and creativeness however, In my opinion i believe that the game is a bit to slow with a greater focus on story rather then game play. if you don't mind slow moving game play then i recommend this game for you however if your looking for a more interactive and faster game then i don't think the games for you.

I can appreciate both a good narrative and stunning visuals, however this game falls extremely short gameplay-wise, and the “story” from the start is confusing and doesn’t really explain itself by attempting to convey it through visuals (which it fails at doing). The art, albeit beautiful at points, does not make up for the walking simulator-level difficulty and “puzzles” seemingly designed for toddlers. Along with that, the main selling point, the art, feels ironically disingenuous. It advertises itself as unique and meaningful but instead comes off as fabricated and corporate in a way. The “simplistic yet deep” art style is getting old and this game is a prime example. Overall, the awfully boring gameplay and confusing narrative isn’t made up for by the hackneyed, minimalistic art style Gris gets praised for.

Personally, I did not like it. I played the game through start to finish, and was bored halfway through it and just waiting to get it done. My biggest problem with this game is that it's a walking simulator, with occasional platforming elements. The game doesn't get good until you get to the last level, where it's actually long, with actually engaging puzzles. The first proper level was also somewhat interesting, but again, mostly just a walking simulator. There are powers you get from each level, but it's not enough to make level design interesting (until the final level). Not only that, but there are no threats or fail conditions for this game, even when you think there might be. There aren't any enemies or stage hazards to watch out for, making this game boring to sit through since there's no point in engaging with the game. It feels like it's a game designed to be played by children who haven't held a controller, and are wanting to play any game. Another problem I have is with the story. Unless you try to achievement hunt the game and go for 100% completion, you will have next to no understanding of what the story is about. This game has no dialogue and no named characters (aside from the protagonist), which makes it difficult to understand the story. I won't spoil it in case you are curious about it, but do know it's behind a gameplay wall. A few good things I have to say is this game is beautiful, and has a wonderful soundtrack. I highly recommend checking the OST out even if you don't plan on playing the game. Overall, I believe GRIS is a boring, and slow game with no player engagement, with a story that tries to hide from the player, and when you do find it, it's the bare minimum needed, but at least has a wonderful soundtrack and beautiful visuals.

Played this game twice so far, and each time I've played it, I've come to the conclusion that it is one of my favourite games of all time. From the art to the music to the gameplay to the story, everything about this is an absolute masterpiece. There is no doubt it will stand the test of time and hit just as hard in the future as it did when it came out.

people praise this game for its incredibly heartfelt storytelling, but, i disagree, this game didn't try to tell me anything. after two hours I was so insanely bored out of my mind from 'playing' this 'game'. I feel like this would've done better as a short animation than a game where you basically only jump and walk. the visuals and music were really great - but the story and gameplay were terrible.

First off, the positives:
This game looks absolutely stunning. Every single room and area in this game looks beautiful. The watercolour give the game an incredibly unique artstyle when compared to other indie games. The main protagonist looks great too, especially the animated segment. They all look great. The music is great (altough, i don't think it's gonna stick in my mind). The abilities are cool. There are zero glitches. The game is incredibly short, at around 3 hours for a typical playthrough.
It is a good, even great game, but i just feel that i can't personally recommend it.
First of all, this game is a walking simulator. Now, some people do like this kind of gameplay and that is totally fine. It's great that there are people out there that can like and appreciate this game in a way that i just can't. But yeah, the gameplay is without a doubt the weakest part of this game. You just go one way or the other whilst sometimes doing puzzles that feel rather slow. For this reason, the game is honestly kinda boring. The art can only carry so much of your attention before you go "okay, the art is nice and all, but where's the gameplay?". It also doesn't help that the character you play as just feels slow, which makes the aforementioned problem worse. This "slowness" also makes me completely uninterested in 100% the game, which i usually try to do with games i like.
The game also lacks a clear, ongoing story. Now, there IS a story going on, but it's mostly hidden behind visual metaphors that might go over the head of the average player. If you want to know what the story is about, you're probably gonna have to look it up online. This amplified the previous problems i had, as i felt that basically everything that was happening was just random bullshit (go) with little meaning. Now, to be clear, there is a sense of progression in this game as you get more and more colours back into the world and you learn new abilities, but that's just standard game stuff.
Like i mentioned earlier, i liked the OST, but i don't think any of it is gonna stick in my mind except maybe the vocals. This can be applied to the entire game, actually. I just felt that i didn't get much from this game. I'll probably forget about it in about a months time, which is a very big shame, because you can tell that everyone that worked on this game wanted it to be as good and memorable as possible.
Gris is a good game, but i just can't bring myself to recommend it to anyone except for those that like walking-simulator (pastra good). I haven't played Neva yet, but i can tell just from looking at the steam page that it probably has a much more interesting gameplay cycle than Gris. If you want to get Gris, you should probably just get it whilst it's on sale. Like i mentioned, this game is incredibly short and takes around 3 hours to beat on average.
In short: Try out Gris if you like walking-simulators. Otherwise, just play something else. There are much better indie games on the market for you to try.

Amazing artstyle, great music, and seemingly great story, if i got any of it from actually playing the game, and also the gameplay is really boring, and not like Night in the Woods uninteresting but serving its purpose, like completely uninteresting platforming painted over with pretty colours leading to me not finding any reason to complete it.
Cant really recommend it unless your really into pretty walking simulators with a story that you need to look up online to get at the surface level (I didnt know it had one until I literally read about it online)

The world and story are beautiful (
especially the Forest Friend, I love you bro
). Very well-designed tutorials and the mementos (secrets) are fun to find. Some of the gameplay is admittedly easy, yes, but that's part of the fun. It's a game about exploration, and the platforming is just extra fun. This is the first platformer game I have truly enjoyed.
If you want to get this for the platforming, only buy it if you like chill and easy platformers.
If you want to get this for exploration and/or art, I highly recommend it.
I beat the game in about eight hours but I explored every single tiny nook and cranny that I found (and I still missed some), so maybe try to wait for a sale.

Amazing visuals and good music and sound effects make for an immersive platformer. Interesting mechanisms and puzzles. Design is forgiving and minimize frustration. The game gives you a feeling of nearly endless exploration, but unobtrusively guides you to the next objective in a natural manner. Highly recommended!

This is not a video game, this is an interactive art masterpiece. It touches on a very sensitive and difficult subject, however it is very well presented and treated. The music composition, the sound design and art direction are pure beauty. The gameplay that it has is designed to be simple and straightforward, so one is able to focus on taking in and interpreting the unwritten story.

Gris had been sitting in my library for a while, you know, one of those games you buy during a sale because it looks pretty, and then forget about for a year. Well, I finally booted it up… and I’m kicking myself for not playing it sooner.
Right from the start, it’s clear Gris is something special. The visuals? Absolutely stunning. Every scene looks like it belongs in a museum, or at the very least, as my desktop wallpaper. The color palette shifts as you progress, and it’s not just pretty, it means something. Everything in this game is telling a story, even the background.
Then there’s the soundtrack. Oh man. Easily one of the best I’ve heard in any game. It knows when to swell, when to go quiet, and when to break your heart just a little.
Gameplay-wise, it’s more about the journey than the challenge. It’s a smooth, meditative platformer with light puzzles. Nothing too tricky, but just enough to keep you flowing through the world. And even without a single word of dialogue, the story managed to hit harder than I expected.
The Good
+ Soundtrack = Chef’s Kiss.
+ Relaxing and Reflective Vibe.
+ Art that deserves its own gallery.
+ Emotional storytelling, no words needed.
The Not-So-Good
– A bit short (but honestly feels complete).
– Less game-y, more artsy (might not be for everyone).

This was a nice short 3 hour game with lots of nice visuals and subtle story telling. Visually, the game is interesting and I ended up really liking the visuals for some of the final chapters. The watercolour effects were a cool addition as you're traversing each area. The story itself is artfully done, but if you aren't paying attention and if you don't do some of the achievements and do some of the secrets, it can be totally missed.
Using a controller is strongly recommended, specifically for vibration. The vibrations help with the immersion but more importantly, it helps for some subtle puzzle solving. Even without paying attention to the environment, a simple vibration cue helped with finding a cracked floor or introduced a story element happening in the background. The platforming and control of the character feels good but one major issue is the speed of which the character walks at times.
The puzzles themselves were simple, as well as the platforming elements, and I didn't find the game difficult at all. There are moments where things would seem like tight for timing for some platforming sections, but they were actually pretty forgiving. However, there are some areas where a platforming element blended in with the background, especially with some of the water elements. Also, finding extra things are hard to catch during the first playthrough and you can't back track to go collect them. This decision to make the game like this did keep the flow of the story going without making collectables a distraction, essentially having the story be the main focus almost at all times. Though, players that enjoy collecting and achievement hunting might find this annoying at first. Completing the game allows for quick load at certain checkpoints, but it does feel like there needed to be more checkpoints or some way to make getting the collectables and extras faster.
With all that said, the story is interesting and relies heavily on visuals. However, the clarity of it relies on doing some secrets and an additional scene requires collecting all the mementos. During the playthrough, I found myself just enjoying the journey and didn't think much of it, up until stumbling upon one of the secrets in the final chapter and now finding deeper meaning to the game. And after going through some of the levels again to grab collectables and achievements, I started noticing the story elements and themes they placed throughout the game which was a nice surprise.
Overall, I recommend this game and with the price that I got it during the 2025 Summer Steam Sale, it's more than worth it. If you're looking for a quick visual story experience you should pick it up if you still can while it's on sale.
