This games controls are just broken. The gamepad sticks are swapped - pitch and roll on left stick, thrust controls on right stick. Which would make sense for HOTAS, but not gamepad. I tried changing this, but after 6 months this game still has issues remapping buttons and sticks. Invert Y axis does NOT work if you swapped your sticks. It ALWAYS inverts the right stick....so my forward thrust is now pushing back on the stick. Boost still doesn't work unless you hold down forward thrust....but it plays an animation of dust particles flying past your window faster. You need 2 thumbs on each hand to control this game has intendend. The menu screens are nice, but try navigating between option screens (and the various rooms you're in) you quickly get bored of the slow fade to black and wait states between each room. Put the menu on one screen.

Very Good so far .. its a bit similar to Eve: Valkyrie in the sense that for single player, only simple modes are supported. However the single player scramble missions are more immersive than Eve: Valk as there is more wingman "chatter". The graphics style is not as high quality and the style isnt quite to my taste but it is close enough and the feelings you get when blowing up enemy ships is great. I cant wait for the single player campaign though .. I hope that gets finished soon. I recommend it at least for the experience (and if you dont want to or cant buy Eve: Valkyrie, this is currently the next best thing), but it also shows a lot of promise for future implementations.

I bought this because it claimed to be WMR compatible. It is not. A large number of us, based on the forum cannot launch the game. It crashes immediately after the UE4 logo at start OR launches, but without any menu to start the game. Unfortunately, I can't get a refund because I waited too long for a response on the support forum and it was no longer eligible for a refund. I am still waiting for a response weeks later, as are others. Apparently it works well with occulus. But simply does not work on WMR, and by the developers post responses to others in the past, it sounds like they didn't have a WMR headset to test it, so they should never, ever have indicated it was WMR compatible. So if you have an occulus, it might be worth trying. If not, you are out of luck, and the developer doesn't appear keen on fixing the problems for WMR users. So I have to give it a big old thumbs down. I was scammed. Would never have bought it if they were honest about WMR support. This is sad. I was very much looking forward to playing this.

I am not the type to write reviews, though I feel I must warn everyone about this game. The programmers of this game have really botched the controls and mechanics of this game. The default controls on a gamepad do not make any sense at all and are not user-friendly to anyone who is used to flight sims. When attempting to map the controls to my hotas joystick/throttle, I wasted 2 hours trying to make changes that the game would honor. Horrifically, the controls sometimes remap themselves. For example, I mapped a button to "menu interaction' (basically the "ok" button), and somehow in the middle of navigating menus, the button would stop working... >.< other times, you'd specifically map something to one button, and in-game it would be swapped with another button. Completely unplayable. Devs, if you're reading this. Don't bother making excuses and just fix the game. P.S. When replying to reviews, check your grammar for crying out loud.

This Game is a good game. the developers need to make the controls easier to change. you can switch the left and right analog sticks on a gamepad, yet it is a pain in the ass. you need to edit an ini file. though with a bit of work this will be a great game. The graphics are excellent, and the missions are fun.

This is updated and MUCH MUCH improved, don't read too much into Early access reviews below , or 'missing devs' complaints - they've clearly been working hard and have produced, for me, a great release now.

I wanted to like this, I really did. I was an early supporter of it and spent money on it early on when there were just a few levels. I flew around them, shot up stuff, had a good time with the game. The first time I looked out my window and saw my cannons on the wing was one of my coolest VR moments thus far. That said.. The controls are just a mess in the most recent update. I don't know how you can neglect support for an Xbox 360 controller which much of the population still owns. When I first purchased it played fine with a 360 controller, but 6 months later things have gone all to hell. For some reason the game wants to default to keyboard buttons for my ship controls (my 360 controller works fine on every other VR game I have) instead of my 360 gamepad. I had to go into custom controls to fix, and when back in the game, my ship spins like a damn top and the controls are all out of whack. Left is right, right is left, up is down, down is up, and then I puke. I have no other controls plugged into my USB. This is running Windows 7 64 bit with most recent updates and 360 controller driver installed. I gave up on trying to even get my starfighter out of the docking bay. I've come to the conclusion that it's a lost cause. And the menus? They remain a nuisance with a gamepad after 6 months. I've never seen a game where the cursor will skip options like it does in this one. And it does it continuously. I can't tell you how many times I've had to sit there and wiggle with the analog stick over the same area 6-7 times trying to hit the hotspot on an option button. Same with the d-pad; it cannot see the hotspots. The cursor just cannot see some of the hotspots half of the time when in the menus. I'm a developer myself and can appreciate the work required for a game of this magnitude, but there's no way that this far into development there should be controls issues like this with one of the most popular gamepads in the PC market. I'm not playing this with a 9.99$ controller made in Bangladesh; I'm playing this with a freaking Microsoft Xbox 360 gamepad. And it doesn't work. And every other VR game I have works with it fine. That's inexcusable.

After two weeks owning the Vive and kind of getting tired of the better known games i finally found a game that's really a classic game and not some "go there, do this, pick up this, bring it there" tutorial. This definitely has a nice 90s space sim feel to it. Really nice, especially since i'm not into learning a plethora of controls. The immersion is great, scaling is good, the vive gives it a nice helmet feel by itself. Just flying around looking out of the side window and seeing one of the larger ships pass by feels awesome. No problems with motion sickness so far, and positioning of the head is correct on my setup. It's definitely work in progress, some glitches. The spacecrafts turn to fast for my taste, shields are missing. But there's definitely already a lot of content in there, more than in some of the higher priced titles. I hope it goes a little more to the simulation side, considering the aerodynamics and the whole setting up your ship thing. Choosing weapons, managing shields etc. would be nice. But the devs seems to be on the right track. So far i prefer this a lot over the usually mentioned VR titles. 12€ well spent. Hopefully this game gains some attention.

Pro tip for oculus users: Launch through Steam VR interface. (Top right VR icon in steam.) Got VR? Want to go on exciting missions as a space fighter pilot? Want to immerse yourself in a fantastically rendered, battle hardened universe, where you are a member of a topflight squad? Then this game is for you! This may be indie, but the immersion and the gameplay are top notch! Works great with my H.O.T.A.S and I got totally lost in the CDF Database, looking through all the ships and space stations. Clearly a lot of thought and love has gone into the lore and backstory for this game. The dev is approachable and is open to feedback and suggestions from the community. I’m having fun with the game and eagerly awaiting updates - I can see myself losing many hours in the CDF universe as it moves towards a full release title. Be warned Pilot! Combat is challenging! o7

Seems the Dev has had our cash and ran off with it. No updates, promises broke, promised deadlines passed. And the nail in the coffin? Looks like any topic that questions the devs antics, all the replies have been deleted. Really not looking good for this Dev, or game. Shame, because it was (back then) looking like a stunner!.

Im writing this review after the latest recent update 0.57 and its definitly getting in a good shape now. A crosshair was added for the menus and many bugs were fixed. Of course its still in a very early state, but it gets frequent updates. And it has huge potential. The game itself is an arcade Sci-fi shooter which mostly concentrates on Action. It can cause nausea but its awesome to feel like your in space, and the sense of scale is very good! the Planets are gigantic and the scenery has some great variety so you wont get bored to soon. Graphics would need some more polish but keep in mind that this is a one-man game, give him credit for that. In conclusion if you need a quick fix for space shooting in VR, this is a good game to start.

UPDATED: Not a few days after writing this there's an update that addresses a good deal of my concerns below, so I've updated this to reflect that. And I think you can be assured this developer is pretty dedicated to making this the best he can. I'm recommending this, but only lightly. Steam reviews are very binary, and as so often is the case, this is a "Yes it's good but" review. This game has a lot of potential and I can see it being fun once it's complete. The immersion is there and the VR integration is relatively solid. Probably the biggest draw of the game is the 80s/90s theming which definitely makes a difference, and you often feel like you're in the middle of a cheesy dogfight from an older sci-fi TV series. This is actually pretty refreshing in my opinion, as many other games just try and be a little too flashy and end up becoming a little bland. Graphically the game is pretty good, but much of it is likely due to the high grade engine running underneath. The GFX, such as weapons and shields, are quite nice. Ship models for the most part are detailed, and cockpits have since been updated in their textures to appear a lot more solid. It's no AAA work for sure, but it's still enjoyable to play in nonetheless. In some ways it goes towards the "cheesy low budget sci-fi" feel, but that's going to be subjective. Content wise it does feel a little empty. There seems to be a few missions along with a randomly generated dogfight mode, which won't keep you busy for long. There's a couple negatives though, but these are to be expected with early access titles. The game is kinda buggy right now. The AI will probably stick out the most, since it still feels very much WIP and is capable of some funky manoeuvrers like turning and accelerating instantly. The other issue is the menus- the author has tried to create a full scene with a screen in front of you for each menu. It's very pretty, and the developer has improved the menus by removing excess menus, but I still feel like the transitions between each menu takes a bit too long. My last point was the controls, specifically the apparent lack of throttle control, but since writing this review they've been touched up and are now much more enjoyable to use. Is it worth picking up now? I think if you're into space sims and have a VR headset, sure, and it's quite cheap all things considered. The developer is clearly here to stay and there's a nostalgic feel that not many games quite nail these days. However, it is of course fairly early, so if you're hoping for a complete experience right now it might be worth waiting a little longer.

Shaun Williams gets it. Confusingly, I see negative reviews, and have to wonder about their expectations. This guy did it all himself. I had to look it up because I couldn't believe it. Personally, I was blown away. Initially, however, I was met with a controller problem. I couldn't launch from the tube. My menu button wasn't responding either. The Fix was to access the control settings in game and select GamePad 1. Issue fixed, I was launched into an exciting new universe from the vision of a single developer who appears to be a man of my own heart. I grew up with wing commander, loved Battlestar Galactica 70s original, Starlancer, and Freelancer. This game captures the spirit that made these universes engrossing. I see big possibilities for the CDF franchise, because I can see the passion that has gone into creating this experience. I have Elite:Dangerous, and while I love much about that game, I don't feel the same immersion and atmosphere that I feel in CDF Starfighter. The set designs, the colours, the feel of being on a Space carrier with other people. I can see big things for this game as it evolves. Imagine being able to dock at a space station or carrier and get out and walk around. Imagine boarding a transport and having a firefight through the corridors and archways. The game hints at all of that to come. I really enjoy this game. And I look forward to more in the future form this talented and dogged dev! I'm glad I took the chance and purchased. Happy trails.

I'm returning this for a number of reasons that prevented me from even getting to play this game. Before the bad, the one good thing was that setting custom controls seemed to work ok. It recognized my several joysticks and pedals and accepted mappings to most of their buttons and axes. However, menu navigation seemed to be stuck on only using the gamepad. So even if I successfully mapped everything to my joysticks for playing, I'd have to keep my gamepad in my lap to navigate the menus. The main reason I'm returning this is because I couldn't navigate the menus properly to test out my mappings and get into a game. Whenever I'd bring up the menu, pressing what should have been the "select" key (A on Xbox controller by default) had some weird behavior where it would also cycle through the options and would only sometimes actually select the an option. Spent several minutes trying to just get started after changing my mappings. It probably had something to do with having multiple joysticks and the controllers plugged in, but other games can handle that just fine, so I'm not wasting my time with one that doesn't. Also, this isn't a true 6 DOF game as it's missing lateral and vertical thrust (left/right strafing as well as up/down strafing).

After playing most vr space games I found this one to be my fav. It really scratched my Wing Commander itch. That being said this version is broken af. It crashed after almost every mission and eventually ate my save. So why the thumbs up? Because it's being remastered, and that schnit is sweet.

This game has been quite the struggle to play, between having to constantly change my controls to my prefrence (Gamepad 2 in the settings) and also having to set the custom axis every time I turn on the game not to mention the the non stop crashes and frame rate drops. However the game is fun and beautiful the story is well thought out and now that I've made it pass mission 4 it hasn't crashed yet so maybe the dev did some tweaks, frame rate drops still but not too bad. Could I recomend this to buy I'd say no unless you're down for the headache of getting it to work right, sorry dev this is like wishing a terrible fate to happen to my friends. I like this game alot but it does need alot of work to get the rest of these bugs out.

Still no HOATAS support. And it is impossible to change the controls due to the game insisting you use your monitor, and then resizing the screen out of view of my desktop. Hopefully this will be resolved soon, and it may be the reason why I can't get my Thrustmaster Warthog working. However, now it has been remastered this game is absolutely beautiful and works very well with Xbox controllers (even though I wish it had better control options). My advice: don't touch the controls. Use default or nothing. trying to set up HOTAS originally snarled up all of my controller inputs.

Update ---------------------------------------- Developer responded to my review, so I am changing my recommendation to positive. Unfortunately my problems persists, no advice helped and my Saitek X52 still does not work with this game, but otherwise the game is great and just the fact, that somebody still cares about his customers and actively works on development and bug fixing is good enough for me to give it thumbs up. And what's even better, the remastered version is on the way! This review reflects only current state of the game and I will update it when Saitek X52 issues making it unplayable for me will be fixed I hate not to recommend this game. Its a work of love of someone who probably played all Wing Commander games, who watches Battlestar Galactica and even has a copy of Wing Commander movie, no matter how bad that movie is. This game is descendant of Freelancer and Freespace series. From the moment I opened it I love it. The female computer voice, the attention to detail, the way that the computer voice interacts with what you do in the menu, the design style. And than you start the first mission, you are in a hangar sitting in a cockpit that looks so familiar, with the targeting and scanning system that fills your hart instantly with joy. So why the negative review? Because the controls do not work. If you have Xbox controller, it works perfectly. According to other reviews, also HOTAS joystick works. But I have Saitek X52 and when I saw it in the controls menu, I was overjoyed. I have selected it and image of the joystick with description of all buttons appeared - I was so happy that I almost suffered a stroke. So I started mission, applied throttle - and nothing happened. I my inital thought was, that there is some launch button that I just need to find. I had no idea that I just made a first step on the path that ends in the ninth circle of hell. I started pushing all buttons and button that is supposed to be primary fire brought up the menu. This menu is not a step to victory, it's a death trap. You cannot change controls, it just gives you overview of your current controls that do not work at all, but what worse - there is no way how to close it. The button that opened it dos not close it (of course, its primary fire, not a menu button). No other button closes it either. There is no close option in the menu, so all I can do is find a sub menu that gives you options to restart mission or go to main menu. So I went to main menu, check that I have really selected Saitek X52. Everything seems to by ok, so I fired the mission and repeat all the desperate steps that finally brought me back to the main menu. But I did not give up - there are custom controls option. If you try them than you have to admire again the attention to detail in this game. Custom menu brings a non VR screen and computer voice gives you instructions what you need to do. You start mapping all controls to your X52 joystick and everything works perfectly, every input and axis is recognised, you can set sensitivity to every axis and also revert it if need. Oh joy, I made it, it took some time and effort, but I made it! Cannot wait to finally leave the hangar. So I started the mission - moved the stick and the ship reacted! Pushed the throttle and leave the hangar. There is some enemy! Lower the throttle, quick turn to get behind his back - oh joy, this is awesome - a little closer, now, fire! Pushed the primary fire - and it opens that cursed, inescapable menu... It doesn't matter that you mapped primary fire to that button, it still opens that bloody menu. Next step I tried was to delete local user files to let the game recreate them - but this fix is for the older version of the game, not for the one I have recently installed. And it didn't help. Curently I have copied .ini file which someone posted on forum. With X52 selected I am now able to browse main menu using the joystick - but no key, neither on the joystick nor on the keybord now works as Enter, so I cannot launch the game or open any other menu item. But I am not giving up, I will check the config I try to fix this. Anyway I am not refunding this game. It deserves my money even with those issues I am having. And as always, it might be something on my side - joystick drivers, whatever... and the game itself is great!

Breathtaking scenery in this game, I believe the reviews are so mixed because of an early release... right now it is amazing, just remember to adjust your graphics accordingly and set your keybinds. Im very happy with this purchase. HTC VIVE FTW

I really wanted to recommend this game. Some of the experiences are cool but do not expect easy, plug and play for HOTAS users. Even for the supported model called out in past updates. There is no easy way to reset controls to default. You literally have to edit and delete files and pray something sticks. Most games it is within the options, yet this game requires a walkthrough for a simple reset. Unless some better user experience updates come along, HOTAS users, avoid this one for now. I edited this review due to feedback from the developer. The game itself is great and if you want regular controller support then I recommend giving it a shot and take part in a good communityt. For HOTAS users (even the TFlight stick users like myself), I cannot recommend this at this time. Dev told me this might change in the future and I will glady update this review once that happens! Edit: I realized that the support was for anolder version of the flight stick and I had the newer one. After much assistance from a community member (thanks Atlas) I was finally able to get it working and learned a bit more about controls than I ever really thought I would. I do hope development will continue forward as this game has great potential.

This game looks really promising. Great design of ships, space environements, i really love the 90' feeling (x-wing, freespace...) Dev does communicate alot on the forums, the game have weekly updates. Run great on my Vive with gtx1080 on win7 64, was runing fine too on my old DK2 and gtx970 Be sure to have a gamepad that support directinput. Currently i got nearly 26 hours in and i'm enjoying it. You got free flight maps, challenge missions, simulation mission (like tutorial) and scramble mode where you got random mission that difficulty increase as you rank up and your kill count rise up! Campaign mode is on the rail. @dev keep the good work! EDIT: now 52 hours in, game been updated 37 times in 7 month! That's some really impressive work for a solo dev, game has improved a lot and is better and better.

This is the first space flight dogfighter game I bought for the Vive, second overall that I've played (first was a game for Gear VR.) Only got into the opening training bits so far. The tutorial could be a bit better as it's not really explained how to move around at the beginning (using an Xbox One controller). I went through about 1/2 of the training missions, learning the basics before jumping off into a SCRAMBLE mode mission. The Macross/Gundam/BattlestarGalactica fan in me couldn't resist the whole "SCRAMBLE!" thing. Hello learning curve! Basically if a space fly veers off course and hits you, you'll be blown up! Superfly! Banzai! (+1 if you got that reference!) Well, maybe not that bad. I managed to eliminate 2 of 3 ships before dying. The gameplay itself though is good once you know what you're doing, and it looks decent enough. The menus are the usual annoying look at what you want and press a button which I could live without. I'd get it if it looked like I was in a hanger and looked at the area I wanted to go to, but that's not what this is. After completing a mission you're sent back to the start of the menus instead of where you last were. For $13, I really can't find a reason to not recommend this if you like these sorts of games. No, it doesn't feel as polished say say, Elite: Dangerous, but this is a smaller game overall, and once you figure out the controls which are poorly explained, you'll be on your way. A budget priced game that offers access to a Wing Commander like game in VR. Happy to support this!

The dev's have really upgraded the game. Flight controls are now fully mappable even with a HOTAS controller. ( you can also still manually edit the \Users\"username"\AppData\Local\CDFStarfighterRM\Saved\Config\WindowsNoEditor\Input.ini config file) Also it has remastered graphics. Thanks for not letting the community down dev's. (Edit) Before the february 2020 update : What looked like a fun game turned out to be an unplayable nightmare. I could not get out of the launch tube. With different controllers (mouse/keyboard, xbox controller, and Saitek x52 pro) there was no button to launch. Or manual that told you how to launch. Even the firebutton brought up the menu. Which had no option to EXIT!!

It's a total bummer because space combat in VR is really great in the brief moments it comes together. But boy, this is buggy. And in VR any bug is magnified in the user experience. Here are some of the issues I've encountered in my short time with the game: * Frequent crashes. I've not been able to do two missions in a row without an exception popup, which of course doesn't display in the Vive headset. I have to set looking at nothingness for a minute or two before taking it off to check my PC monitor. * Selecting a menu option takes you out of the VR world for a minute or more while a new scene loads up. * I've had my fighter spawn somewhere inside of a wall, rather than the docking bay. No way to reset in-game. * Controls are super twitchy with an Xbox 360 gamepad. * I often look down to see that my "head" - the game camera - is misaligned with my pilot's body. I woder what this headless pilot is doing there before I realize it's me. This is really not ready for primetime yet. If you're like me you're probably looking for something different to run on your VR set. Until this gets much further along I recommend you check out a different game.

Wow - REALLY wanted to like it - but like everyone else says none of the controls work - xbox controller nor X52 Pro. Extremely buggy - got into the cockpit once and it looks super promising - but the controls stopped working. Rebooted several times - works - then stops working. Really buggy. Switched to Hotas in menu - then nothing worked and can't get anything to happen. Looks like the dev abandoned it. Shame. Could have been awesome. Waste of time and money for now.

i havent had much time playing this game however i have been in search for that space cockpit feel for a while. im an avid elite dangerous player but elite is missing on some fun type of action that only indie games can bring. i will be straight to the point. PROS: -BEAUTIFUL GRAPHICS. -FEELS LIKE A PROPER COCKPIT SPACE SHOOTER -SOUNDS ARE VERY GOOD -THE EVE VALKYRIE SINGLE PLAYER WEVE BEEN WAITING FOR -A REMASTER IS TO BE RELEASED SO EVEN BETTER (unless i am playing the remastered version?) CONS: -MENU NAVIGATION NEEDS WORK. YOU HAVE TO KEEP YOUR GAMEPAD HANDY NEXT TO YOU. -THE DASH CAMERA SCREEN IS TOO BIG. (any way to shrink or remove it?) -THE ONBOARD COMPUTER VOICE IS REALLY NICE BUT COULD GET ANNOYING IN TIME. -ON FREE FLIGHT MODE IM HAVING TROUBLE LOCATING THE MOTHER SHIP TO LAND. -I WISH THE SHIPS COULD GO A BIT FASTER. MAKE ME GET ON THE EDGE OF MY SEAT. (they arent really slow either dont worry) I will do a further review once i have logged more than 5 hrs on this game. but the important thing is SHES A KEEPER. NOT REFUNDING (which i do a lot) shaun fix the menu thing so we can use our hotas hat switch to navigate the menu and if you could make the ships a bit faster in speed that would be perfect.

There is a Gem in Here. Now About Those Game Crashes........ HMD Used: Oculus Rift with XBox One Gamepad Computer Set-Up: i7-8700, Windows 10, GTX 1070Ti, 16 GB RAM In reading the reviews on this thing, I had been staying away from it. When the developer posted a Re-Mastered Version would be coming in the future, I thought I would take a stab (after all, if it were that bad, I could refund it). I'm glad I did. First off, starting this thing up in Oculus VR Mode, was nothing but a disaster. Although I could get the game started, the gamepad was completely unresponsive (except for the Thrust)/ But when I started up the game in Steam VR Mode, I had a more pleasant experience, although I was stuck on the default Steam VR screen until I left clicked on my mouse, then the game started. After playing with the game for a bit, I decided to change the GamePad Configuration to '2' (I'm a lefty), inverted the pitch, and reduced sensitivity on the pitch/yaw. Getting to the Custom Control screen (which, unfortunenately, you had to take off the Rift, and make the changes on the flat screen monitor) resulted in a game crash or two. When I got stuck on the Custom Control screen, Task Manager usually had my RAM pegged out at 85%. In finally getting the controls to my liking, I started to play a lot more: Trial Run, Free Flight, Simulation/Training Mode. Wow! This is the first space game in a long time (I would count Everspace, but their support for the Xbox One gamepad was horrible the last time I played) where I had a game impress me in the same way Eve Valkyrie VR did. The sense of scale is immense (flying around the base ships is incredibly fun, and flying around the various astreroid fields was also a good time (especially the violatile asteroid field). Tracking both friendly and enemy ships is a breeze (love the 3-D radar), and the ability to match the target's speed is a great feature. But then came the crashes........ Every so often (average of every 4 missions or so), the game screen would freeze, requiring me to re-start the game. Less common, but no less important, is that the Unreal Engine would crash (with an option to send the developer a report on what happened; which I took advantage of). More rarely, is the one time where the crash closed down Steam entirely. Normally, these crashes would cause me to refund the game, but the basic gameplay, its sense of scale, the fun of flying around, captivated me enough to keep coming back (although after the game crashed Steam, I decided to stop). Now I haven't gotten to the campaign yet, but I've mostly enjoyed what I played so far, and do want to come back for more. Unless the game performance starts tanking worse than the stock market in December, I plan to come back to play, and look forward to what the remaster may bring.

As of 2/20/2017 This game for a 15$ is very good, and has big potential. Thumbs up!!! Wished there will be DF Multiplayer and Gimballed cannon for a more fun gameplay, Plus toggle for allowing or not for missile in multiplayer DF.

This is an awesome VR experience for fans of old space combat sims. Keeping the graphical limitations of VR in mind, the dev has done an amazing job in finding balance between realism and playability even on a 970. The flight mechanics are Arcade-style, but with enough complexity to make you think beyond point-and-shoot. No power management or newtonian physics here however. A variety of controls are supported, and the dev appears to being responsive to improving them. I use a PS4 controller and everything was mapped and ready from launch. The game modes, while straightforward, offer a good amount of content for an early access game. The Free flight and training sims are a welcome addition. Singleplayer missions have voice acting and objectives one would expect from this type of game. Conclusion: If you are looking for a VR flight sim, this is your game. It is immersive, challenging, and fun, just like X-Wing/Tie fighter. Get this while it is on sale and help it grow!

For $15, this is a decent 90's style space dogfighting game for VR. Graphics are pretty good. Lots of different ship types and beautiful planet backdrops. The game was way too hard for me, but I sometimes have trouble with my depth perception IRL so that likely put me at a handicap. The feeling of flying was pretty good and the AI is a challange and there are a lot of different training scenarios and skirmishes, though no offical campaign or multiplayer yet. As others have said, the controls take a bit to get used to. On my PS4 controller, left stick is just a throttle control, and right stick moves your nose. There doesn't seem to be a way to 'roll' your ship, you just point your nose in the direction you want to go and go there, but you can't roll. I took it as a challange and just got used to piloting without rolls. TIP: Select button is what reset POV for me. Quite useful so you can play from anywhere. I suggest picking this up and if you don't find it too challanging I bet you will keep it. Especially for only $15. Nice to get in on the ground floor and support hard working devs like this.

Whilst CDF Stargihter VR is still very clearly in early development, to me it seems to be heading in the right direction. I've only just bought a HOTAS (Saitek X52 Pro) and have been looking for games to use it with when using the Vive. Specifically I was really hoping for some arcade space shooters that don't also feel the need to add trading, tedious A to B "missions", etc. Starfighter looks to be just that and I can't wait to see where it winds up in the future. The sense of scale and very nippy crafts make this an already exhilirating experience and one to keep an eye on. There are bugs and the current custom control solution is not ideal, but check the guides to resolve this until that side of the game has been fleshed out; it's worth it to get your HOTAS working as expected. Just don't go in expecting a thoroughly polished title right now, and you won't be disappointed.

Awesome game that needs some real storyline with a good plot and more than just either 4 or 8 fighters incoming. If the monitor in the main menu that says that this was created by one guy then good work buddy and I really hope that you can make more out of this by making a full length game with many types of opponents and more challenges (the fighters AI is really poor once you figure it out). More variety in weapon and ship customization would also be neat. Also, to get it to work properly on my HTC VIVE took about 20 mins messing with settings. I am running a 4.2GHZ 8 core proccessor with 16GB DDR3 RAM and a sapphire AMD Radeon 390 GPU. I had to turn off the shading and the anti-ailiasing and crank the VR setting to about 140 + possibly one or two more things to get a stable, good picture. The motion sickness goes away after about 5 mins of playing so if you do experience it just persevere. Praying that you keep up the good work and expand this to be an epic game!

My first review of this game was negative, but the changes that have been made by the developer have turned this game around. My main issue was with nausea* making the game unplayable, but the developer (who has been working very hard to turn this game around) has released a number of updates and I've been able to play for over an hour continiously with no nausea at all. There is currently a lot of content to explore- different mission types, and playable ships. The VR scaling is good and you can see the basis of what could be a great game. There are still some issues of course (early access) but I can now recommend this game, the parts that are currently playable are fun and the developer seems committed to responding to bugs and pushing the game forward. This could be great game. (*My Graphics Card is an AMD R9 390 and this now seem to run the game at reasonable frame rates and graphics settings)

Remastered version is fantastic on Oculus Rift. Control mapping does still take a little work, but HOTAS, Dualshock, K/M, and Oculus Touch all work. The only negative is that the touch function like a controller so no head or motion control for ship or weapons. I really hope there's additional content or sequel!

Menus and menus controls turn this good game into pain! It's impossible to set up control, axis set up menu is unusable (it doesn't have needed options and it is impossible to get back to main menu!). I was unable to use my usb-joystick, i can't figure out how to setup game for it (game can see it, but no way to use becuse of setup menu problems). Also, switching between menu screens is terrible sloooooooooow. I dont want to wait this boring "fade out and fade in"! Just switch em! Moving between menu items with xbox controller is also terrible - selected item determined randomly? As all I wrote, after experiments with controls setup, i'am unable to play at all - flight controls inaccesible at all. I have to delete game and install it again... (((( But, game itselt looks promising! Graphics pretty good, waiting problems to be fixed and get able to play!

Gigantic piece of crap. Unless you like games that have horrible menu set-ups, un-intuitive controls, no HOTAS support even though it says it has HOTAS support.. I'd like to tell you about the game play, but I can't play the stupid game because it isn't recognizing my HOTAS, even though I have an X53 pro and it's listed in the menu, still isn't enough to actually work. Waste your money on Farmsimulator or something, at least that game works as advertised.

I dont think this title is ready for release. 4 crashes in 16 minutes, and dead end menus that require killing the app to get out of them. Frame rates were abysmal also. I have no problem running Eve Valkyrie, but this really dogged. Wait, see if it gets better.

I found the EDIT review - and updating it. (was thumbs down and negative) but my bad... was VR only. I didn't know this was VR only. ODDLY - it ran and worked (with issues) in 2D... but that's where the problems were as well as the crude graphics. A week after posting a negative review and getting a refund... my VIVE came and I watched the youtube videos again showing this and I had to try again. WOW it is beautiful. VR HEAD SET REQUIRED! It's one of my favorite VR experiences - even in early access. the rotating astroids are insane and HUGE the since of scale is massive. Though VERY early access - there is a lot to do. I Recommend it highly and can't wait for it to develope. (SO how to change my thumbs down from up!?!?) OH - I found edit and thumbs up. GET THIS it's an amazing experience and fun even is current form. EDIT a few days later just updated to 0.54 OMG It's now worth twice the currently price. MAJOR UPDATE AND IMPROVEMENTS. Enough I have to go load it up for more.

*Its getting better.* I have a lot of respect for people that put their back into making this kind of project, and this is a fairly ambitious one. It's shooting things in space. There is very little depth or variety, the controls aren't really all that great, and it needs a couple coats of turtle wax, but it's a pretty good gen-1 VR game, and definitely worth the $13

please fix: 1. controls - I am using my xbox remote and when i got this game i configured the buttons. NOW, I am stuck on stupid. First, there is no reset button for me to go back and start over. Second, the way in which you designed the button configuration is confusing. Third, in a general menu, when i select something, it doesnt go in that direction...just fustrating. 2. CONTROLS... please fix the controls...for god sakes man...

All my time spent "in game" was basically in menus and messing about, the control scheme is just wrecked and I don't even think the dev owns a HOTAS Game looks good, I just don't recommend right now if you have a HOTAS. I did wait for a couple of updates and give this game a chance, sadly I don't want to hang on too long and be beyond a refund. Edited , looks like the devs have been working hard on updates for the HOTAS issues, I haven't had the cash in my steam wallet to buy the game back yet, but will be back to edit this review once I have tried it again and hopefully it will be positive :)

Got a few hours in on this game and it is awesome. There are some bugs but don't let that discorage you. Very fun game. My only real wish/change that I would suggest is a way to turn down the background stars/planets. They are just too much and it would look better with more of a starfield/distant objects and just a few planets. Or at least have the option to pick backgrounds. Try this game out, it is truly awesome in VR~

This game seems to be evolving nicely. Keep it up! Adjusting the Vive/Rift boost settings is a must and is a very useful feature. Controls are simple and easy to bind to a HOTAS. Blowing up enemy ships is gratifying.

Nice industrial art style and the start of some interesting lore. Well worth the price of admission to experience in VR.

The Game has its shares of bugs , Which denied it's top Ranking , But Creation Content Never Fell Short of Amazing , And is still a Worthy investment of True Epic VR Entertainment..
