High quality dlc for your collection, but only if you are into heritage locos. Not much to do here as a train driver to be honest. Low speed limits, no traffic, no challenge. It`s just slow and smooth train trips with very nice scenery. And NO STEAM engines on Somerset… nope, we don’t have steam locomotion in game so… only diesel days for now! That’s really sad! I can recommend it getting on sale though (got mine with 40% discount) P.S. You can buy additional locos like Class 33 or Class 52 as add-ons for Somerset. These are brilliant pieces indeed. The main reason I got this route is these two locos. Speed limits here are too restrictive for two-engine Western beast though. But details, sounds, physics are great on both of them.

Again, do not listen to negative reviewers saying that the first tutorial is bugged. There are 3 types of brakes on this train. It might not be obvious but you should start the train normally checking that everything is properly set. Tutorial explanation is misleading as always, but use your common sense. It works. I have completed all the tutorials and got all the achievements for them. However, red signal bugs are still there even though they were first reported years ago (TSW). DTG could not care less. I have just completed this route. It works if you do not quit before that bugged light.

A long time ago I wrote a review for the TSW2020 editionf of this route. For TSW2 there now is a major upgrade that makes this lovely route even more attractive. The basic version represents a 25 miles heritage route in the UK countryside. It comes with a class 47 engine and the class 09 engine and Mk1 coaches. The amount of content is a bit low, 28 timetable services, though there is variation because the include run-around services and a bit of shunting at the stations. The main feature is the beatifully modelled landscape and the engines are OK for me. On the downside there are some issues with game save in combination with signalling. In addition, you can buy two loco DLCs, the class 33 and the class 52. Both of them are nice but expensive, no additional services and no wagons. Also you could use the class08, class31 and class 20 to increase variety. In this upgrade a lot is changed. You get some additional depot servies and if you also own the Northern Trans Pennine, the Heavy Freight pack and Tees Valley line, variety in rolling stock further increases and the class1010 will drive in its own timeslot. An absolute highlight for me is the working old UK level crossing with fences that close the tracks when allowing road traffic. This really is awesome. Also now some ards are populated with engines and wagons along the route, contibuting to the atmosphere of the route. If it is only about this route, you need to spend a lot of money to enjoy it in its full scope, but the other content is worth its money if you like the old UK stuff. A very small detail, the semaphore signals have sound, but you only will hear it if you are very near.

Well, the very first tutorial does not work! You are left hanging while the brakes charge and charge and charge and charge....... You get the picture. Have they bothered to fix the issue - here noted in other negaitve reviews to be an issue since October 2020 over a year ago. Nope. When it comes to help for fixing the issue, the advice is contact the Developer. I did. Have they responded me in 4 days? Nope. Refund applied for.

it is a good looking route and well worth it on sale, but its boring to drive 10-20mph all the time, I just wonder that people back in the day used the trains that are as fast as walking driving this route is really slow and gets annoying to a point when I just ignored speed limits

This is the thing for you, if you're into late crest BR era or heritage railways. A slow and scenic stroll through the West Somerset Railway is the reason why I bought TSW 2 and Railworks. Can't recommend it enough

bad copy paste can't start rail journey because the first tuturial is bugged and can't get passed the starting engine then i loaded a mission and there is a really weird graphics glitch on the train that makes it twitch like a fnaf anematronic when you look at it from the in and outside gives me a headache

The developers must have another go at this route and re-do it from top to bottom. This in real life is far more impressive than the one in game right now. We're missing a lot of diesels still, freight cars, activities etc. The photos here are from 1997, so that could be the goal, to recreate it as it was in 97 with all these diesels, some are already in the game, some of the work is done. With the focus on everything apart from steamers, it can be impressive still. Ref: https://www.flickr.com/photos/45603744@N06/albums/72157719153577734

probably the most beautiful DLC for TSW2 with beautiful "low speed" loco diesels (from vilage to vilage). Map is handmade with love compare to another empty unfinished DLCs. This DLC is for true loco lovers .. contains: BR Class 09, BR Class 47 + as addon BR Class 33, BR Class 52 + playable all locos from Tees Valley Line DLC + playable DLCs: BR Class 20 and BR Class 31

I decided to pick this up after the recent update, and I have to say this is an absolute gem of a route. If you want fast trains and/or frequent services, this isn't for you. But, if you love running old trains in museums and heritage lines, then this is absolutely worth it. The trains themselves aren't amazing, they're some of the oldest models in the game and could have done with a bit more of a touch-up, but they're certainly not bad. The route is exceptionally well modeled, especially given its age. The stations are quaint, the Mk 1 coaches rattle and groan, and the journey is a nice and relaxing way to enjoy the historic trains from the comfort of your own home.

Very high quality route Yes, it's a slower pace but the quality of the scenery and stations makes up for it. A must have for anyone that likes classic British diesels or is looking for a high quality, relaxed experience. It probably has the most attention to detail I have seen in any route, just walking around the stations and looking at everything is an enjoyable experience. It has also recently received an update from the preservation crew so the crossings now work and all your NTP and TVL locos substitute in. The only negative I can think of is that the green class 47 doesn't sound as good as the NTP one. I purchased this with the Class 33 + 52 bundle, which are both top quality locos and I would definitely recommend for anybody interested in the era.

*Mixed Recommendation* Route is good, trains are good, line speed slow, it runs alright, higher fps compared to other DLC's. The thing is that the map is buggy as well are the textures, and sometimes the timetable is buggy. The Class 33 is great and I love it but i refunded it and the route DLC because of the bugs. I'm not sure if its a problem on my end PC wise, but its buggy. if its on sale, get it. if you want to drive around at 25 mph most. and you like heritage railroads and rolling stock, get it. if you like normal commuter train service, don't get it. if you don't want to be stuck driving around at 25/15 mph all the time. don't get i

This route is nice but the maximum driving speed for this route is way too slow ... if you just want to relax and need something to put you to sleep this might help.

Every scenario with the MK1 coaches crashes. Typical DTG quality control.

Too bad they did not remastered the route on the TSW2 version. But at least it looks well on TSW4 & 5.
