I bought this DLC with reservation, as it was just one loco with no increase in services or route extension at full price plus tax, but I did it anyway because I love American commuter rail. It is an absolutely beautiful train, however it was clearly rushed out.
Positives:
+ The sounds are amazing. Listening with headphones, you can hear the deep diesel hum on the MP36 and the wind smacking the front of the cab car. The horns are nice and the e-bell is a nice touch.
+ The headlights give an incredibly realistic throw, and you can see the different light output of the halogen headlight and LED ditch lights
+ Nice braking and acceleration, and the different braking function than the F40PH-2CAT is cool
+ blinking lights while the doors are closing
+ highly detailed Bombardier cab car
+ optional strobes on cab car
+ Variety adds some life to the route
Negatives:
- Overpriced for what you get. It's one train you can drive from the loco and cab car, the routes are just shifted over from F40 routes, and for a service called the Baby Bullet, most routes for this train are actually local, limited stop, or empty stock moves and almost none are at night.
- Many bugs. Headlights on the rear are sometimes left on, sometimes you can't start the cab car without running back to the cab to mess around with it, ditch lights sometimes no longer flash after a save, turning alerter on and off leaves it on
- No manual. If it isn't in the tutorial, you gotta figure it out yourself.
- TMS added, but since there's no manual, it's impossible to figure out how to use it, and it probably is bugged anyway.
- After we got door controls and door keys in the vestibules in the gallery cars, it seems a step back that we can't use the door panels in the vestibules on the Bombardiers--only the ones in the cab
- Sounds don't change volume when you open the window
- No way to turn on cabin lights from cab car. you must go to loco to turn on HEP.
Overall though, it's a great addition, but better to get it on sale. I hope DT doesn't continue this trend of rushing things out and fixes things in a patch.
