This locomotive is amazing! Like really good. One of the best steam locos I've seen from DTG in a long time. Here's what I think in detail. PROS- Very detailed model The whistle is just beautiful The new controls (steam heat compressor, turbo compressor etc) all work really well just like a real steam loco Has great sounds. Very very very high response braking CONS- The reverser is glitches and will sometimes accelerate when in 0% The chuffing sounds don't really sounds very well until you reach about 30mph Very prone to wheelslip In total I think this is an amazing loco.nI have created a scenario for it so check that out when possible Out of 10? This deserves a juicy 9!!

Well, what can I say; BRILLIANCE! Let me put it to you this way, Pros: -Whistle is Fantastic -HAS A BELL -The Air Pumps, Brake Blocks, Reversing Gear AND Smokebox door function -Model is EXTREMELY detailed -Lighting is superb -Decent Choice of rolling stock -3 Scenarios -Model from a country that hasn't seen ANY steam since the BR52 Cons: -Chuff sounds sound like the old BR52 -No Lens flare on the headlamps -Wagons are a bit modern for this loco -Scenarios are a bit short for such a mixed traffic loco To sum up then, this is a QUALITY addon from DoveTail, and the best steam loco made by said developer, and has so many features. The lighting is great, and it has a BELL, which is infact, a USA bell that has been recycled, which is fine. JClassFan Recommends this addon to ANY railway lover. The DR BR 86 Loco Add-On by DTG gets a final score of 20/21. Well Done Indeed!

First of all don't bother buying the DR BR 86 on it's own as for the same price you can buy a route PLUS this loco in one go: https://store.steampowered.com/app/562378/Train_Simulator_Wutachtalbahn_Lauchringen__Immendingen_Route_AddOn/ The loco itself is nicely detailed and comes with two freight wagons plus working Sifa and PZB systems. Three scenarios for the West Rhine: Koln - Koblenz route are included but since the quality of the route is not the best it's buyer beware here. View forward when inside the cab is rather limited and poking you're head outside can cause you to miss warnings from Sifa and PZB. It's worthwhile picking up though as German steam locos are not common here.

Very nice loco, only things that I wish it had is generator steam effect and footplate crew. If you have BR52 though, there is a modified cfg hanging somewhere on german forums that lets you put its crew on this engine. The loco is kind of realistic to drive and well made. Has a lot of little, unnoticable details, like reverser gear moving outside the loco when you work it. Two passenger scenarios are very nice, but I think the freight one is simply unfair. (Mind that I've been playing in realistic mode with pzb on). Very hard to keep up with the timetable, pretty much impossible. I CAN'T RECOMMEND THIS DLC BECAUSE you'll probably be better off buying the Wutachtalbahn instead, since it usually has a similar price and provides the same content as this, plus passenger coaches and...well...a route (athough kinda lazily-made and with more unfair scenarios). So, Get it only if it's much, much cheaper than Wutachtalbahn and if you're not interested in getting DR coaches and a heritage route.

The DR BR 86 is a nice looking model but it has some features that should be here on a pro range. Pros . It's a pretty easy to drive model and good for beginners like the Castle Class from Riviera in the Fifties. . Inspection Lights "This actually surprised me, I've never seen a locomotive that had this feature." . Powerful. I tried it on the S&DR with a rake of heavy Railguns from the SR Q1 pack and it didn't grind to a halt on those steep grades. . Brakes stop the train quickly. Cons . Chuffing is a little quiet and can only be heard when loco is a yard or two from the camera. . The Manual doesn't explain how to make the loco steam more efficiently. . It surges forward or backward quickly with only a little steam. This could cause collision with rolling stock. . Wagons look too modern to be bundled with a steam locomotive. Overall I give this locomotive 8/10 shovels of coal.

I agree with both points below. The detailing on the loco is exquisite, both in cab and out. It sounds amazing, until you reach higher speeds. Around... lets say 30+ mph/kph, the chuff rate sounds abnormal, and the wheel and axle rotation become jerky. It just loses all smooth rotation and kinda ruins the look. So aside from chuff rate and wheel animation, it really is a great locomotive.

My opinion about this locomotive is probably deformed by the very fact, that I owned a scale model of this loco when I was a boy... What to say, what was not said already? This steamer is easy enough to drive, it is really iconical piece of equipment, it goes extremely well with all older german coaches (both DR and DB alike). The only downside is, that this should not be in the "Pro" range, this is solid "run of the mill" game locomotive, nothing more, nothing less. I bought this when there was no "Pro" range and this one was just another "normal" loco. Therefore, I am giving it thumbs up (though I can understand, that buying this as a "Pro" model is probably a letdown).

A lot of the earlier steam locomotives from Dovetail I haven't been terribly impressed with, although this one marks a departure in their previous offerings. Although not a fully clickable cabin (I'd like to be able to open windows, etc.), overall the simulation is fairly decent and offers a fun experience of a great German locomotive. I'm no historian, so I can't attest to the accuracy of the simulation. That being said, she sounds relatively good, looks good, and has enough complexity to make it a fun and somewhat busy ride for enthusiasts. Get this when it is on sale, rather than at full price (when compared to other offerings of similar price). You'll be glad to have it I suspect.

The sounds are perfectly acceptable, you can turn on inspection lights on the outside of the engine, it has a bell which is rare for a european locomotive. It's a well done locomotive. 9/10

I find this loco a bit of a let down after driving the Peppercorn K1. Chuffing sounds are poor. As you speed up they sound more like drums.

I can't speak to the loco itself, as I haven't tested it yet. But DO NOT BUY this by itself. It is included with Wutachtalbahn, which now in sale, is only half the price of this loco alone. And yes, even the scenarios for Köln are included.

No, absolutely not. I can honestly say, this is a money grab from DTG, as blatant as it gets. Why would one pay full price for this, when one can get ant entire route AND this for the exact same price? Really, DTG? I would say pick this up on sale if you REALLY do not want the route, but the route goes on sale cheaper than this standalone model does! There is no excuse for this BS from the devs.... Now about the locomotive. It is overall pretty nice. It goes well with the few German steam locomotives we have, but it does feel a bit out of place without any real matching rolling stock for the era. Its kinda Meh.
