Rabbit Hole is a pretty good and funny action, horror game and a pretty good Silent Hill and Resident Evil clone, also published by the same people that published the story of Henry Bishop game, now then the story. In a prison cell Sean Turner's life has turned upside down, he thought he knew what a kick in the ass life can give you when he found his wife cheating on him with a man he thought was his friend, but he was wrong.
One night going over to the town of Rabbit Hole where he was going to surprise his daughter and spend a few days with her, he gets into a car accident and hits a man who looks and smells like he's been dead for a while, horrified he goes into town to find help, but only to discover that not only is the town practically empty most of its residents have been turned into horrible flesh eating monsters by some deranged cult. Now Sean must rescue his ex-wife and their daughter from the clutches of this deranged cult, but doing so maybe an even greater challenge than he realizes as not only does he have to fight the undead he also has to fight the creature the cult worships.
Okay then the likes, the gameplay is very good it’s also kind of fair, it's a mixture of Resident Evil and Silent Hill with the Resident Evil part is solving puzzles, fighting horrible monsters and scavenging for ammunition, while the silent hill part you explore a spooky town filled with horrors obscured by a dense fog and dealing with a deranged cult, it's nothing too complicated. The weapon play is good it feels nice to squeeze off a few headshots or sneaking around and doing a stealth kill. The puzzles were okay there were some that were clever and others that were just kind of dumb like the invisible ink puzzle.
The story is good and kind of funny it takes its cues from Silent Hill with a deranged religious cult and with some sort of monster they worship, but also quirky and weird with its dialogue and it's small cast of characters, it sort of feels like what if Silent Hill’s story was made by people that made deadly premonitions and that gives you a good idea about the story and dialogue.
The graphics are good for an indie game with a nice use of colors, designs and just an overall look, also the fog is nice and spooky. The levels are good a little diverse with the town feeling realistic and nice to just explore and look at all the little odds and ends.
The characters are good, I like the dad he was kind of cool but also funny as he's just trying to find his daughter, but he has to deal with the zombies and some of the other townsfolk. The old woman was also funny and nuts. The enemies and bosses are good while I recognize some of the enemies from other games, they still had some nice designs but I think the bosses are the best each one had its own interesting designs like the cemetery boss and the mimic which were cool looking.
The voice acting is good it has an indie quality to it that’s not bad but still not like the best, but still kind of good really helps sell the goofy dialogue. The atmosphere was okay kind of spooky but not like too spooky. The notes were good helped to expand the story a little bit, I also loved the little drawings in some of them, but there's a problem with the notes, but I'll get to that in the dislikes. The price for the game was also fair for a short indie game you can beat about 4 hours.
Now is this game scary, not really there is some tension especially when you're wandering around the hospital level, dreading what is going to come out from behind the corner, but the game's mostly just action with some light scares here and there, still wasn't bad.
Okay then the dislikes, I did counter one bug in the game where after dying to the hat man final boss on the third time the screen went black and froze, but that only happened to me once. And speaking of the hat man boss I hated him in the hospital level as he was one of those invincible types of enemies he was just kind of annoying as I just wanted to explore the rest of the hospital, but I always had to run away from him and for some reason he's on like two floors, I don't know I just felt his presence there was just a pain, although he did kind of add to the tension factor a bit early on.
Also some of the bosses could be kind of a pain probably the graveyard boss and the final boss were the most irritating like as your fighting the graveyard boss these little exploding spider enemies will run at you and the graveyard boss is a little bit of a bullet sponge and the Hat Man final boss is annoying as he has a teleporting ability and when he gets to lower health he summons a small group of zombies to chase you.
There's also this one particular annoying/weird part of the game is where in the hospital level I picked up a shotgun and found ammunition for it, but here's the thing I never used the shotgun and when I left the hospital level the ammunition I saved was gone, there was only just seven bullets in that shotgun left. Also like I said there was a problem with the notes and that is they don’t carry over from level to level like the shotgun ammunition and that was stupid.
The game also does have controller support but only half controller support and you can't turn down the aiming sensitivity for the controller, so my best advice would be to just play with a keyboard and mouse. Finally one big problem in the game there's this dog and we can't pet the pupper and I really wanted to pet the bestest boy or bestest girl.
Okay with that all finished with Rabbit Hole is a pretty good and funny action, horror game and a pretty good Silent Hill and Resident Evil clone, also published by the same people that published the story of Henry Bishop game, with good gameplay, a good story and good characters, so if you're looking for a good Resident Evil/Silent Hill clone this I recommend this game.
