The idea of the game is really nice. You're the "AI" inside the computer of a submersible exosuit on a water planet. You have to help the scientist inside the suit do her tasks and research for a missing companion. The graphics and the user interface are OK. It's a map and some command buttons. I get it, we play as the AI in the suit and we're there mostly for navigation purposes. I don't mind that part. What I have a problem with, and made me quit the game, was the gameplay. You have to click predetermined points on the map and use those to "explore" the areas. Honestly, if we could've free roamed using the topography instruments, and dealing with the consequences of going places too dangerous (shallows, currents, etc), this game would've been awesome. But we're locked in the waypoints the game Dev chose for us. No other interaction possible with the surrounding terrain. And I haven't mentioned yet that those movements take up to 5 seconds to accomplish. Because of the tedious gameplay, I don't recommend.

i will preface this by saying that i havent finished the game yet but oh my god is this good so far. jesus christ. dont spoil anything for yourself ideally and just figure it out as you go. visuals and music r subtle but absolutely stunning and immersive, and the design is excellent - the distinct audio cues for parts of the ui are really neat and intuitive. story so far has had my mouth fully open in shock at times. im having an absolute blast.

A fantastic game for lovers of sci-fi and exobiology alike. It's very reminiscent of both the anticipation of slowly untangling a mystery, and the sometimes tedium of lab work. LOL Basically, it felt like being back in grad school. You make observations, collect samples, analyze them, alter your hypotheses and repeat. This is more background as the bigger focus of the game is on what happened to your colleague, and is she alive, stranded on an alien planet?

This game, like all the others from Gareth at JOTA, tells one of the best stories, in one of the best settings, with some of the best art. It is a masterpiece.

Truly excellent interactive fiction with a unique interface. The tools you are given are minimal, but elegantly immerse you in the fiction a intelligent machine. Navigating an alien world is enveloping. You discover the traces of alien life and through study you learn more about the world around you, and open up new ways to navigate the planet. Engrossing science fiction that places you in the eyes of a careful observer rather than a brutal trespasser.

Such a brilliant little gem. The movement system and scrolling dialogue took a little bit to get used to but once i did i found this an incredibly calming game exploring this new world and discovering what happened there

the story is extremely engaging and there was always something to do whether it be collecting samples or progressing the story

Incredible game, amazing story! What In Other Waters does with the limited graphics is amazing and enables a story to be told that would be hard to tell any other way. Feels a lot like Subnautica, if you liked the creature documentation/speculative evolution and resource management aspects of that game, you'll like this!

Artificer crafted game .. hopefully the world and characters created here will be explored in next games.

A game about exploring an alien ocean, presented through a minimalist and manual interface. Navigation, particularly when returning to areas to find missed items or locations, can be a bit clunky, especially if you want to scan all the time, but it also keeps you from speeding past everything too quickly. About 7 hours to 100%, maybe a little less if you're careful to explore everywhere before ending a sequence. The story is interesting, though not particularly groundbreaking. Overall a great game for a couple afternoons of relatively stress-free exploration.
