Bloodstained: Curse of the Moon

Bloodstained: Curse of the Moon is an homage to the NES Castlevania games, notably Castlevania III: Dracula's Curse. Therefore, it is not a metroidvania game like its spin-off/sequel Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night (another excellent game). Instead, Curse of the Moon presents a classic action-platforming gameplay, with switchable playable characters and different level paths. The game can be beat in about 2-3 hours, especially in Casual mode with unlimited lives.

I first played this game on my Birthday somewhere else before I officially got my hands on it, which gave it some incredible sentimental value to me. This 2D Platformer honestly shaped me up as a person, as someone who grew up with the Mega Man Classic series of videogames while also having memories of the older Castlevania games, and this being made by IntiCreates, who assisted in developing Mega Man 9 and 10, piqued my interest relatively quickly. This is a BRILLIANT homage to the "Classicvanias", as people tend to call them, and I genuinely think it's the best it could've ever been! The story is greatly written even for as little as it might be, the levels feel really good to explore, the playable characters all feel powerful in their own regard with the variety and multitude of subweapons, the bosses are all incredibly impressive and it all makes the game a truly beautiful, unforgettable time! I can't get enough of it! And, of course, this game taught me just what any good Castlevania it pays homage to did: How to Jump.

Steam doesn't have a "Meh" vote, but I'll go with a thumbs up cause my impressions are mostly positive Curse of the Moon is an interesting retro game, but it feels like some sort of prototype. Maybe I've been spoiled by modern games, but it would fit a NES library when development resources were limited and games had to be small. But for a 2018 game, it could've had different routes for each decision (hiring, killing or skipping allies) and Nightmare mode could've had its own campaign Sure, this game is cheap and maybe that explains its small scope, but I'd have loved to play more of it

Is an excuse for the main game released in late allowed to be this fun? If I wasn't the biggest fan of Bloodstained, this one felt so good it eclipsed it!

if you like castlevania than this is the best your gonna get for a modern game in the series because konami is a horrible company honnastly inticreates should own castlevania and megaman
