Total lack of meaningful choices. Tech tree insignificant; products undifferentiated; simply a grind. Get factorio instead. If you have factorio, and are looking for things like it, this is not it: there's no depth here.

It currently does not add anyting new to the 'factory manager' genre, rather it feels like a poor blend of Big Pharma and Factorio but missing all the fun parts.
To me this game felt like a boring moneygrab.
Maybe the future will bring something good, but right now this is not worth it.

Feels unpolished. Maybe should have stayed in Early Access a bit longer. Tutorial is really bare-boned, I already noticed a lot of lacking things such as I'd like to see processing speed and ratios of each part and I couldn't find them unless they are hidden somewhere. Not being able to adjust import volume is just silly. The sound bugged out, sometimes the machines made noises and sometimes they didn't. I then noticed heavy framedrops randomly and no proper campaign and decided to refund.

Big pharma + factorio ... but very unpolished. This should be in early access! Tutorial is lacking critical info such as research ...
Will refund now. Mayeb purchase it again later when it is better polished.

Let me start this review off with this: I never write reviews. This game is so terrible I had to tell other people not to buy it.
The problem is that the graphics and the price are rubbish. If you want a good game, get factorio. Only a bit higher in price but way better. This game isn't even a 50p game let alone £6.99. It is way to easy to win and isn't fun. So if you have a brain, please don't buy this game

I was so excited about this game. Saw it on youtube, liked it, watched more youtube, ilked it even more, bought it. However, looking on it now, on its ready status, I feel cheated. It doesn't have any options to customize. For example, i have an azerty keyboard and there is NO way to get it corrected in the game. Granted you can change your system language and that solves the problem but
you
shouldn't
have
to
do
that!!!!!
Factorio is a game that's mentioned a lot. But they're right in mentioning it. This is the SECOND time I am burned with an early access game. But that's the risk your taking. This is going in my 'never touch again' folder along with my money wasted.
Unfinished. Bugged and boring.
If I still could, I would refund but I can't so...
Watch youtube let's plays first. Make absolutely sure you know what you're getting.

For an Early Access game, it's in great shape. It's basically a much, much better version of Big Pharma. You'll see people saying it's like Big Pharma + Factorio, and that's true, but it's much closer to Big Pharma than Factorio.
The basic layout is identical to Big Pharma: you have some small-ish factories of odd rectangular shapes; you import and export goods at the walls of the factories using special machines; and then inside the factory you route to and from various machines with arms and belts to make products and produce a profit.
Like Big Pharma, there's no way for belts to cross each other (like Factorio's underground belts do) so layouts become puzzles. Also like Big Pharma, you buy your equipment on the market (as opposed to making it, like in Factorio) and money is a constant pressure.
It greatly improves on Big Pharma in several ways. Selling to market is easier and less annoying. The machines are a bit smaller relative to the factory so you've got more room to ramp up capacity. (And, because the market mechanics are nicer, you have more reason to ramp up capacity). There's much more of a meaningful research progression and research requires actual products rather than money, which makes for more interesting and dense factory designs.
Overall -- especially for being early access -- it's a more fun and engaging version of Big Pharma. Looking forward to its evolution.

This game is just bare bones. This game more feels like it was designed as a university homework project. It's not fun, you really have no goals, it's just build whatever, for whatever reason. The game was made simply for a quick cash grab from the creator. Just feels bland with no character to it or flavor. best to stay away.

Let me start off with saying that I really wanted to like this game.
It has good potential, but there are some issues that need to be resolved before I'll recomend it.
The research system needs to be better explained in the help.
The game load and save system has issues: I started a game, saved it, then I was unable to come back to it because it kept loading in sandbox mode.
I started another game. The game started on day 30.
I started another game and halfway through making plastic bricks, before the bricks were finished, it changed to BB guns, and gave me no research points.
I'm always ready to help a developer, but this time I requested a refund. Possibly in the future, I'll come back to it but now I can not recomend it.
Sorry.

Looks like someone copied the game "Big Pharma" and changed the theme so it looks like the game "Factorio".
It is not a really bad game, but there are alternatives with the same gameplay/setting which are much better. If you would like to play a game with this kind of setting/gameplay, choose "Big Pharma" instead!
I can not recommand this game

I enjoyed this game, it's fairly easy, relaxing and although it's far from perfect I feel some of the reviews are a little harsh.
This game does look like Big Pharma but the game play is quite different. Besides, I've completed Big Pharma and absolutely loved it, would it be such a bad thing if more games were like it. In Big Pharma you raise and lower the concentration of ingredients which you then combine to make drugs while competing against the AI. In Factory Engineer you import raw materials to make intermediate products which are then used to make and sell finished goods. You start off with only a few simple products to manufacture but as you research more technologies many more products become available that are much more complicated and require many components to complete them.
That's as complicated as it get, you don't need to worry about economy because everything makes large profits. Research is also simple, rather then send products off to be sold you send them to a research lab to gain research points and you're not up against any AI opponents. This lack of depth could be seen as a pro or a con depending on how challenging / complicated you like your games.
Initially your product lines will follow one product to the next. Technologies like Teleport are useful to cross product lines. Eventually for the more complicated products you'll need to research Global Inventory which will allow you to store products. You can then dedicate rooms to producing just one basic component which you can then ship out to numerous rooms making the more advanced products.
To achieve 100% you need to sell a quantity of 100 of 8 different products which took me 24 hours to do. The game does includes scenarios but because there are no achievements relating to them I was not inclined to bother with them, which is a shame, I would have happily spent more time in this game if that was required.
There are flaws. There is very little data on what you have produced. The Items Database doesn't show many items per page because each item uses a lot of wasted space and yet you have to click on each item for more information which could have fitted in the wasted space. When you have a lot of machines it's difficult to keep track of what they are making, an icon on them would have been useful. When you do click on a machine to see what it is making, you have to click again for more information which would have been better coming up initially. Scrolling around your factory is too slow and I experienced a serious lag once all 12 rooms were full of moving machinery and conveyor belts.
In summary, it’s a basic product line simulator. For me Big Pharma was a 9/10, Factory Engineer is a 6.5 but as a fan of the genre I had fun with it.

I initially got this game as a cheap substitute for Factorio which I also want to play. However I have grown to liking the challenge of making a production line work within the confines of set factory floorplans. Graphics are simple but nice and practical.

For a game in Early Access it is doing really well in my mind. The game is based off of factorio, Big Pharma and more and I can say puting those games into one was a really good idea and makes for a really fun game exspecaly if you can't really aford the games its based off of. So far play the game I like how you can retrive the mechinery once you remove it and the genaral game play but I don't like how (well for me) rescherch takes a long time and that the tear 2 products have the same rescherch value as the tear 1 products. This may be a bug or not but my conveyor belts jam up but I think its pretty cool cuz you have to check up on your probuction line. Anyway I really like the game so far and i'd recomend it to you if you like micro management games.

This game is pretty fun (yes it looks like a factorio clone, sorta.) but isn't bad.
Don't forget this is a EA game, i posted a few bugs which the dev almost immidiatly fixed the same day.
The dev also listens to the community for improvements and changes.
The game itself is pretty decent, therefor giving a thumbs up.
Sure in it's current state it lacks a few things but that's expected from EA.
I found this game to be fun to play as is, and worth my money.
i have high hopes for this game in the future, especialy with a dev like this.
It's a nice and relaxing game to play.
(no i did not receive a key or whatever for those wondering.)

Fun game! It's like Factorio except with a marketplace instead of combat. It's a bit limited so far, but what's here feels solid. It seems like the developer has been giving his design choices a lot of thought. I'm looking forward to future updates.

Not a horrible game, but definetly not a great game either. I takes the most anoying aspects of Big pharma and Factorio and puts them together. not a good starting point. It could be so much better if more attention was put on making items flow quicker and clear craft times were provided for each item. smelters having to be manually set is just abonoxious, assembly machines being used to create intermidiate components, great, but a machines that just makes end products instead of an assembler, again pointless. double sided belts, good. belts, importers and exporters that move like mollases, and can realistickly be used for only one item, pointless.
I cannot recomend the game as it fails to messure up to it's sources of inspiration in all ways. you want end to end one line production, get big pharma, does this a thousand times better. You want massive scale resource management and complex logistic issue management, get Factorio. You want something in between, get production line. This product is a good idea that has been left at an alpha state yet is not in early access. I would be more willing to give it a chance if it was clearly still being made, but this as a finished product, that is a joke.

I played this a while back but couldn't figure out how to get stuff done. Now I am trying the game again but when I use my wasd keys to move with its so fast that I can't even get back to where I need to build. If the developer sees this please fix the options menu in your game. All there is at the moment is Volume and video settings. Its frustrating because I can't play the game. The wasd should be slowed down.

I enjoy factory building and automation, but this game just feels bare bones. Scrolling via wasd is way too fast, and causes screen tearing on my monitor, the ui doesn't feel scaled to my resolution, the game doesn't really do anything well, and I'm pretty sure this game which feels realy early access has been long since abandoned, as the last update was 2017 or 2018, with the most recent news being adverts for their recent games (maybe they did a better job on those, idk).
Do yourself a favour and avoid.

I would recommend this game if you are just getting into automation games, but other than that it's just too easy. Although that might just be my life wasted in Factorio talking. All around it's a good little game; a few bugs here and there but other than that its fine.

Well then. Once upon a time, I saw this game on youtube and it looked fun. Sometime ago, I actually bought it and now i had time to try it. First of all: this is a Santa Claus Factory Inc. sim in disguise, since you can only produce toys at your factory, which is completely fine.
It could've been a really good game if they've spent a few more months developing, bugfixing it.
You can make complex and interesting production lines given that the conveyors and teleporters don't start bugging out randomly so you have to check the entire factory to find which random conveyor block bugged, and rotate it around, to fix it...
This also says a lot: I've spent 11 hours in game (to farm out the achievements), but mostly I was just alt+tabbed out and watched netflix, while my factory grinded the achievements.
Sooo, at the end it wasn't a fun experience, it was boring. I strongly recommend playing Factorio instead!

tldr; Game is fun but unpolished, buy it on sale, hoping developers keep updating it throughout the coming months
This game is fun and a good time killer, but ultimately unpolished and lacking in some categories. Overall it is a good game, and I recommend that you buy it on sale.
Some mechanics of this game are fun to mess around with, especially in the fun-focused sandbox mode, but some of them become a hassle or just plain annoying. For example, arms that grab items from the conveyor belts can only turn 180 degrees to move a product. They should be able to rotate in any direction to enable people to have a well-running factory that looks nice and earns lots of money. However, even in sandbox mode, your factories can end up feeling small and limited because of this game's limited mechanics and factory sizes. While there are many different factory rooms that you can use at the same time, they are all pretty small and oddly shaped.
This game can be fun but needs to be updated and changed. It's a good time killer, but not something to keep you hooked for hours on end. Many games have done what this game is trying to do better. With some updates, changes, and tweaks, this game could end up being another big and addictive simulator. For now, just wait to get a good deal on it from a sale. Not worth the current $10 price tag.

I have had many hours of fun with the game. I ran into trouble when I started using the global inventory system; I don't think I understand how it works, and I can't figure it out. The steam forum seems kind of dead, so it is difficult to get questions answered. I don't see any other forums or wikis out there.
So, yea, if you want to spent ten bucks and have several hours of fun, I recommend the game. And maybe you can figure out the global inventory system!
Edit: I resolved my issues with the global inventory system. Definitely get this game!

i like this game a great deal, its clearly a ripoff as even the dev admits in the description and for what appears to be a first time commercial dev release this is rather impressive. removing the 'survival' part of factorio is actually something i quite welcome because really i just enjoy watching that game run.
and when this game is working properly it absolutely scratches that itch in a much less stressful way than factorio.
it is for sure an early access game, some bugs with the belt and handlers that will need to be sorted, but what is here is playable and fun. a story, better tutorials (seems the dev may not speak english as a first language), and maybe some updated sprites and i could see this really shining, especially at the relatively low price point.
ive certainly spent more money on less complete early access games, and could see this being my minesweeper level itch for a while where something like factorio is more of a commitment.
great attempt, would reccomend if you like other games within the style/genre. cant speak to big pharma even though i own it i have never been able to get past the tutorial without feeling drowned in jargon.

Ok, so this game needs:
Better controls - doing anything at all i complicated - you need to open several menus and repeat the same actions over and over again.
Better descriptions - it is difficult to make decisions with no information - an option to research better information perhaps.
Better overview options - there are no usable running statistics - perhaps an option to research better statisticss.
Better inventory - items should not take up the same amount of space per unit in inventory - inventory max should be changeable.
Better infrastucture - different import points from inventory should have different priority status.
Better upgrading of production - instead of having to got through the lengthy proces of building an additional production line to do the same job, production line elements should be upgradeable or the player should be able to copy - and paste - areas already built.

Great Idea for a game,
Its still kind of "raw". To few instructions and not that intuitive. I actually played something similar 10 or so years ago that was more advanced back then. I have been looking forward to a new one. Just buy it and see how i progresses. I think it has great potential.

This game is unplayable in it's current state.
Really obvious things like the tutorial doesn't work because you don't start with money.
Also it is possible to hit a dead end in sandbox mode because there is a bug that won't let you place machines.
The game has promise. It could be a different take on Factorio but since the dev is make these really simple mistakes I doubt the game will ever get finished.

I'd have to give ths game a 4 out of 5. It has a lot of great and complicated challenges, but it lacks a few user interface requirements that would make the game easy to play. The tutorial has to be skipped if you don't have a scroll wheel mouse, and in order to clear a room of equipment you have to right click each one- which was murder in my thumb using a laptop trackpad. A tool that lets you lift a large area of equipment similar to the Sim's dump truck tool would make rearranging for new things a lot easier. I also wish there was a way to chute equipment in two directions, but it's possible I just haven't reached that feature in the research yet. Either way it's a lot of fun if you like the challenge of manufacturng and turning a profit!

Factory Engineer is a sandbox production-chain simulation in which you build your factory, import stuff, produce goods and export them. The gameplay is as pure as it can be, but the production chains get really complex and can be quiet challenging (for me at least ;-)).
Unfortunately, you have to learn most of the mechanics of the game by trial and error. The tutorial teaches you how to build the basic product and that’s it. After that, you will be told to watch videos.
There were many aspects of the game, like research, recycling, storage and some tools I never used – none of these were mentioned in the tutorial. Mix that with complext production chains and you get a steep learning curve, which will probably cause people to quitt he game in frustration.
In the end, I „finished“ the game (100% steam achievements, which includes producing the probably most complex good in the game), and I had a decent time doing so. But while I had fun with the game I cannot really recommend it - especially not full price. If you like these kinds of games and look for a niche pick, I would instead try Production Line : Car factory simulation (basically the same game with a little more theme, better UI and more information) or Big Pharma (the most polished game in this genre, that I have played).

The game's sense of progression for Marathon is pretty much non-existent. your first goal was 65 plastic bricks I think, the second one is 45 bb guns. You'd think the next goal would be plastic dolls, as that's the next product in the line that you can make.
It's not.
Instead, you need to now focus on getting 10,000 research points, which is fairly expensive to do. The Kitchen Set is the only thing with more than 100 research points to start the game. Everything else is either a flat 2 or goes up to 59 I think. The Kitchen Set is also the most valuable to sell, and also rather expensive to make. If for whatever reason, you go for the 2 values, it'll take you 5,000 of them to reach the points needed. At $100 a process, that's around $500,000 of the money. The water gun had the next highest value after the Kitchen Set, and would have been the 59. That will take it roughly 170 processes, which is still $17,000.
Now if we include the cost of setting up the chain to process such a thing using the water gun, that's one research center ($5,000), one assembler (also $5,000 I think), two smelters ($4,000 total), two processors ($2,000), two importers ($6,000), and I think 7 inserters total ($7,000) that adds up to a whole lot of money. Don't forget to add $200 for every conveyor you might need. Two at minimum because importers won't place their product without one.
All that adds up to $29,400 at least just to start accumulating points. Even if you do this set-up twice (which requires either off-setting the research facility with explicit timing, or two of them) you still will need to pay roughly 170 processes worth, and have doubled your total cost to make it happen faster do nearly $60,000.
That's the total cost of unlocking two areas after your first one, and boy will you need space after doing even one of those as a set-up, never mind two.
Keep in mind that whatever you set to research will not earn you money. So it will always be importing, processing, smelting, assembling and researching - every single action costing you money. Sure, you can unlock loans first, but that just winds up delaying what you are trying to achieve (and pretty massively. 3,000 points for just the ability to have a loan.)
Maybe later in the game is more fun for this, and such a thing is most likely less of a problem. But starting with that makes the progression feel like it's not there, and is a hell of a cost drain when you don't have high earning potential.

This review is late. Very late. To preface; I bought the game a long time back, for some substantially low amount, during a sale. I hadn't played much when I did get it, and now, as of writing this, I've "Finished it". Though the game has no end, there no reason to keep playing. By "Finished it" I of course mean I've now gotten all the achievements. All 8 of them. A concerningly low amount for a game that is about solving complex puzzles. However, they're not real puzzles. I call them that because having to figure out the most efficient way to make something is a challenge in and of itself in this game.
Tl;Dr (for those who even read this games reviews)
Game isn't fun because game isn't long and overtly challenging at the end.
The achievements I am going to be referring to as If they were missions. Though there are different ways to start a save, the only one worthwhile are timed challenges, as that makes you actually think about component placement, but other than that Sandbox is what I played the most, cause its easier to get achievements in.
"Missions"
The first is simple. A tutorial, If you will. And i mean, literally, because the 'help' section in the game shows how to make it. Make 100 Bricks. They are the first thing you'll ever make, and the most effectively cheap way to farm cash. Easy production, simple ingredients, faster speeds, Papa Brickolini. (If you get that I am proud)
The second is a bit better, but still easy enough for new players. Make 100 Watches, Fast, simple, and I forgot how the process goes but i remember it being easy.
The third gets a little more advanced. Make 100 Bicycles, the first to make use of rubber,, which has its own assembly line, and pretty average of a puzzle.
The fourth Introduces the complexities of machinery, electrical components, and is a straight forward intro into these mechanics. Make 100 RC Helicopters, this one makes you think about placements more, and teaches you that there's more to a factory, and all components that have been made can be used to make more things.
The fifth is really easy, if you know how recycling and inventory works. Make 100 Costumes, relatively shows that now you should be using the inventory system unlocked from the research tab. How researching works i cant say, due to sand boxing. Its a simple task under the guise of confusing production means.
The sixth is where the difficulty ramps substantially, and delves into the realm of actually thinking critically. Make 100 Home Consoles, tells you to abuse the inventory so that your rooms don't get clogged and congested. Teleporters can also help if you want to use a few rooms to mass produce components, but they serve more as a way to transport things in the same room or across from one to the next with the disadvantage of requiring space where inventory input and outputs need walls.
Now seventh just gets rude with how much you have to offsite produce components just to slowly make one thing you need and wait for it to be made over and over and over again. Make 100 VR Headsets, is a daunting task. Daunting as in tedious and annoying. Having to make more rooms to mass produce the same circuit boards because to make the Ult. circuit you need 20, and if you forgotten about recycling, now it comes into play again. Unless you need batteries before this, then you've been using it.
The eighth and last is the most annoying to do, because of already stated features. Make 100 Robots, wastes your time more than all of these. Waiting and waiting for another component to be made is annoying and aggravating. And attempting to make more is more tedious than counting all the grains of sand in a fishbowl.
Things that should be added:
-Upgrade existing machines (I.e. spend money on either higher quality ones that produce faster, or upgrade existing ones)
-Buy Components directly (I.e. buy the pieces you don't want to waste your time producing, or some sort of delivery service that you can use to order things, like pre-made low and mid range components)
-Add more achievements (this would make my review longer and play time aswell, but the achievements are the only reason I came back)
-Make a story or at least better goals. Having to make X amount of Y in Z days isn't really fun, a story or even characters would make the experience a tad more enjoyable)
That's all I have to say about Factory Engineer, a short, overpriced, annoying puzzle game.

To be honest I love these kinda games and if I pay this money for a game that keeps me busy for even two evenings, I think its entertainment value for money, However - I never have game crashes and I mod etc on many high end games and I play all my games on highest graphics settings with no problems, my PC handles this with ease. Well the game kept crashing. I wrote this reveiew as negative initially and also opened a discussion thread about it. I am not exagerating when I say Kim got back to me within less than a couple of hours and had a fix in beta before the sun set. There is more to this little engineering challenge than meets the eye and just check the negative reviews, those guys didnt even give it a chance. The current community threads are rubbish too, all they embrace is trying to decide what the game is like when actually its completely unique.
I started building a few things un-economically and quickly I was losing money, started again and put in some design time and wow now we making stuff, its easy to criticize a game but why dont you show us if you can actually master it.
If you like economy latched puzzles, solving problems, design etc, this is an awesome game. There is more than a few evenings of fun and mind bending here all for less than the cost of a sudoku book. Give it a whorl YES I RECOMMEND

All of the negative reviews for this product seem to do two things:
1.) Compare the game to factorio
2.) Ignore the fact that is an $8 game
Yes, the correlations to Factorio are obvious. Yes, there is some growth for improvement in the graphics. In the end you paid eight bucks for a game that is still pretty fun and a little challenging. Best game ever? No. Worth the purchase price? Yes.

I am writing this review on the first day of the game's release, and will update it as the game evolves.
Firstly, the game is VERY early access, for example, it is missing music entirely. There are sound effects, but no way to control the volume, etc.
However, these items are readily acknowledged by the developer, so I'll put aside those known unfinished items and instead focus on reviewing the values of the game:
It is clearly inspired by Factorio with a bit of Big Pharma tossed in as well! Like Big Pharma, the map consists of several large buildings in which you can place your machinery. One building is available at the start, and additional ones require funds to purchase.
To create products, you must first import raw materials, then send them through a production chain via Smelters, Assembly Machines, and finally Product Makers in order to create finished finished goods that can then be sold via the Exporter modules.
Of course, the game wouldn't be complete without conveyor belts and Handlers, which transfer goods from machine to machine to belt.
There is quite a lot of research, which is purchased with points generated by feeding Research Labs with completed products... the same ones you could be selling! Each product has a research starting value that goes down every time one is processed... so changing the products that go into the labs is a necessity.
Research points are used to unlock further machinery, new product designs, and things like loans and lower interest rates.
I really like that this game has an economic component: one is limited by funds to buy machinery, etc. My first attempt at the game was to build a long assembly line of several smelters, etc. ... and then I ran out of funds before I could buy an Exporter to sell my goods!
The game has interested me far more than I anticipated, and I'm glad that there is a new factory-building game on the horizon!
This game does need a lot of work, which the developer acknowledges, but they are also asking for player feedback to improve things, etc. I will delighted to provide that feedback and see where this game goes in the future!
I would definitely recommend the game if you are interested in the genre, and want to see how Factory Engineer develops!

So I LOVE simulation games. Factorio, airport CEO, prison arcitect, blueprint factory, production line (cars), big pharma. I pretty much play them all. This one, though, was not up to par.
It has the same feeling as an early access game.. but it isn't. Controls are clumsy. No rotating things - you just have to lay it down. No storyline/progression line that I can tell. It feels very strongly of big pharma with some factorio thrown in...
Oh and it does have a tutorial that doesn't seem to really tutorialize.
I'll be getting it refunded.

A game that was EA and didn't have promising concept. Now it's released and I still don't see anything new.
This game has a big brother Factorio. Factorio is a bit more expensive but has much more content. Factorio also supports modding & custom maps ,which allows playing this game with factorio. If you are interested, go buy factorio instead.
(Be warned that factorio is extremely addictive and some people have played more than 1000 hours.)

I enjoy and have lots of fun to play Factory Engineer. With given conditions game starts easy and makes you learn the mechanics of the game and then gets complex and then again challenging.I love this part "challenge" .
The most important feature of Factory Engineer is its "Developer".Very quick to answer and solve problems and listen to community.Such a nice game and developer.
Factory Engineer has its different style and thinking .
I am happy to own this game !!!

Lots of potential here. I'd like to see some more content as time goes on but there's enough in here to get your money's worth. Efficiency seekers will especially enjoy what's going on here.

46 minutes in and the game has crashed 4 different times. Everything on my end seems fine, I have no problems running anything else. Any help is appreciated.

Its a decent game for a its price, altho theres some room for improvement, rotating belts without having to remove them, see what the factory/furnace is making without having to change the recepie every time.. things of that nature, so atm im not giving it a thumbs up as these things is just too much of a annoiance.
if fixed in the future i will definatly change the thumb down

I don't like this game. It's confusing, lacks information regarding items and their uses, even the tutorial glitches! Would ot recommend buying this - waste of money.
