Just when I thought Sakura Magical Girls was bad, in comes... whatever this is. Secret Pie is a visual novel developed by Momentum Games, and is the single worst visual novel I've ever laid eyes upon, and the reviews don't really reflect how bad this is. If you don't understand how much of a monumental failure this is, I'll explain why. The only positives this game has is the potental for screenshots in lewd scenes, the voice acting and the animated, uncensored H scenes. Nothing more. The art direction is average in event CGs, and mediocre at best in background CGs. Character design is so uninspired that all characters look similar. I could only tell them apart by their clothes and hairstyle. UI is unpolished, there is no skip function (and trust me, it's sorely needed for the cringe-inducing dialogue), which is a basic function of any visual novel, and there is no textbox, which can be a problem when the text and the background are of the same color. There are visible programming errors, like bugs in transitions from static images to animated H scenes and viceversa, and this is especially egregious in the DLCs. Oh, and speaking of DLCs, the only way you can unlock all achievements in this game is by having all the paid DLCs. Yes, you heard that right. This game pulled a Tales of Arise, and locked achievements behind a paywall. However, all those issues pale in comparison with the biggest problem this game has, and it's something I've being critical of in many visual novels I've reviewed in the almost 4 years I've been here, and it's the writing. The writing in this game is an Eldritch-horror creature the likes I've never seen. This, without hyperbole, makes Dragon Age: The Veilguard look like a masterpiece. This seems written by writers who were constantly checked their phones while writing, because at one time, the setting is a tenant building, and in the DLCs is suddenly a mansion. There is contradictive character choices, failed attempts at character arcs, because they jump all over the place without a coherent throughline, the choices I made lead nowhere, the characters have all the depth of a puddle during a light rain, and there are A LOT of situations that don't make sense at all. And it gets worse in the DLCs, where the dialogue becomes completely incoherent and inconsistent, the narration jumps from first person to third person for no reason whatsoever and the characters introduced in the earlier story are completely ditched in favor of the new characters. Ultimately, this game is just a screenshot simulator, without any depth, nuance or subtlety. A kink highlight reel with no cohesive story or good characters at all. You'd only wasting your money if you buy this. The only way this game can be enjoyed, is by the same way most modern movies are enjoyed: turning your brain off, assuming you're willing to buy this game, that is.
