Rogue Legacy 2 is what you'd get if you mashed Rogue Legacy and a sequel together. Every time you die, your children will succeed you, and each child is unique. Your daughter might be a Colourblind Archer, and your son could be a Pacifistic Chef. Either way, one of them is getting conscripted.

As my hours showed, enjoyed the game but got frustrated with continually having to refill out my skill tree after each update. Small gripe, sure. But still annoying. Other than that, your typical rogue-lite with random castle layouts. Most classes and perks are not needed. You will find yourself sticking to a small handful of occupations. 6.8/10

Rarely do I see a game so good and so criminally underrated at the same time. This game is polished to perfection with lots of useful quality of life features. Each class offers a unique playstyle so there is a lot of replayability here.

While I personally prefer the art style of the first game, this game is bigger, with even better game play, and a better story. Overall, a significant step up in this sequel and a super solid rogue-light with a fun loop, challenging bosses, and high skill cap.

I went into this game expecting it mostly to have merit for its combat, but it's fairly good all around. The combat is still my favorite, but there is also a decent story, soundtrack, and environment. And they're all great separately, but I mourn that they don't work together as well as they could. I don't feel that the game plays like a story even though it has one. Only one boss fight, for example, felt like it had narrative weight because the environment and music starkly juxtapose everything else presented in the game, and the information given directly before the fight most clearly communicates that the game is a biblical allegory. I wish the game didn't feel so fragmented in this way because the experience could've been so much better. But even still, this is well worth your time because I still maintain that Rogue Legacy 2 is a very fun game, and generally well put-together.

I still haven't figured most of this game out but the game-play loop is just genius. Maybe the only rogue-like I've ever played that doesn't stress me out. Very crisp mechanics too and still highly skill-based.

A great follow-up to the first one! Love the added House Rules which allow me to play at my own pace/difficulty. There's a ton to do and it's nice to alleviate that grind a bit while still enjoying the game.

Addictive, good progression, very fun if you like rogue-like games! It can get a bit grindy at later stages when you're trying to beat certain bosses and you need to max out your stats, or maybe I'm just not good enough to beat them without maxing out everything lol.

a better game than 1. classes are more diverse and fun, biomes are more well-thought out, bosses are flat out more interesting however "farm gold, die, rinse and repeat" is still the loop and after a bit it began to irk me personally. still a good game overall, just not one i see myself revisiting overall too much

"Oooh look at this cute little knight game, that'll keep me entertained for 10/20 hours tops hihi"
YOU ARE MISTAKEN HUMAN. THIS TITLE HOLDS HUNDREDS OF SECRETS, UNLOCKABLES, COMEDIC DIALOGS & HOURS OF CONTENT.

THE LAST TIME I'VE BEEN THIS ENTHRALLED ABOUT A GAME WAS INSCRYPTION.
(totally different genre and esthetic but still, both insanely good games) The Goods - A progression system that's creative, rewarding and that fits the lore ? YOU GOT IT - Diverse biomes, filled with creative ennemies, secrets and memorable bosses ? YOU BET - Mysterious story, following the Estuaries and the fall of the kingdom. Not much of a story guy, but this one got me good. So great story that only adds mystique to this complex, ever-shifting world ? CH-CHECK - AN ASSERTIVE, LOUD WOODEN MANNEQUIN TO REMIND YOU OF YOUR WORTH BEFORE EACH RUN ? YOU BETTER BELIEVE IT - Mechanics that feel fluid, and very diverse when you start combining them together ? ASBOLUTELY (Hollow Knight fans should have a field day with this one) - Class variety out the wazoo to keep each run fresh, to find THE heir that fits your playstyle the most ? Why would I mention it if wasn't to confirm that YES, IT'S THERE AND IT'S REALLY WELL THOUGHT OUT + DESIGNED - Oh and New Game + isn't just a "same shit, harder day". You actually get to discover more ennemies, bosses, secrets and lore up to the true ending... Boo List - Character stats are confusing when starting (Dexterity, Skill Crits, Armor System/Weight System...) - I found the Scar system... Complicated at first, same for the buoy boy, but that could be just me - Music was kinda lacking.. Until it wasn't (I'd say halfway through the campaign). Beat the first boss of the game to get a slight taste of the sheer scale of this lil knight game. Then keep slashing, eating and spin-kicking (SPIN-KICK EVERY SINGLE THING HUMAN, OR GET SPIN-KICKED BACK TO SPAWN) to discover just how detailed the world is, how well written most characters are and how much of your free time you can sink into these wretched halls. That about marks the end of my review. Feel free to keep reading other comments down below or buy this gem straight away. ...
Go on now, I ain't any good at small talk. its a pretty great game but the controls are pretty off a 'special attribute' of some classes is that they can aim their weapon any direction they want [even if thats a lie] but that should be default for every class the pike class can only aim in 4 directions, better than the two of most of the other classes, and the ronin can aim in 6 directions, but why? thats not only not enough but just doesnt make sense speaking of the ronin, the 'aim attack with mouse' option only works for two of the 6 directions, you can aim left or right, but in order to also go up or down you have to press W or S, WHY?!?! thats so unintuitive its unreal all this without even mentioning the game feels really quite grindey and the difficulty curve is a bit too intense overall its a great game if you can ignore the controls and difficulty shit like gold and enemy damage
