This DLC really isn't that bad. I was pretty sure of that when I bought it, and after driving for about 7ish hours or so I just have nothing to complain about.
Looks wise, this thing is great, although like others have mentioned the gauge lights which are very dodgy and weird to read, and the row of buttons underneath the speedometer look strange and overdone in the dark. Lots of other people have said that the train is just a copy-paste of another DLC from 3(ish) years ago, but despite buying TSW2 pretty near to it's original release date I didn't buy that particular DLC and so I can't comment on that.
Somebody said something about it not substituting on other routes. However, I have screenshots of me running it on Ruhr Sieg Nord (not using scenario planner, just the normal timetable) and it also seems to work on every single german route I own just from the timetable selector (except koln). it works on more routes than the MRCE black variant. So I don't know what that's about.
Most of everything works, save the heaters (which haven't worked on any German trains to my knowledge) and as others have mentioned you can't remove the reverser, although that's hardly anything to write home about. I do wish the screens had more functions though.
AFB is indeed very very annoying, I've changed my mind.
The engine sounds are... weird... although I've never seen a 182 in person I have seen videos of them, and compared to that the sound of the motors just feels too synthetic until you get up to speed- my guess is these sounds were probably reused from a previous DLC. also the horn is a different pitch than the other fright locos, which is kind of weird. Oh, and the voice warnings? dead quiet, they need to be turned up for sure. Other than those comments, the sounds are good.
The two scenarios I did play are pretty fun, especially the one where you fetch a stalled train. The first scenario in the second chapter of the journey, I think it was gaining mass, has a problem with LBZ where the system seems to apply everything backwards on the return journey, which was my only gripe with the whole pack.
All in all, I still don't think this deserves such bad reviews. The locomotive functions just fine; this isn't anything close to terrible. This is probably the locomotive I enjoyed the most in this bundle, although the RHTT takes a very close second place. In fact, I'm driving it even as I write this, and I still don't see why everyone is complaining. All the problems mentioned in other reviews are there, and although I wouldn't mind a few changes they just don't feel game breaking to me. And another thing- Locomotive DLC used to cost 15ish dollars. Now you can get three for almost the same price, or only one for six bucks, which I think is very fair. I hope DTG will continue this pricing trend.
