If this review says "16 minutes" it's not correctly synced to the Laptop I actually use to play this game from. I have about 3 hours of gametime, and
made it to the first H-scene on the adult patch
.
I do like it, the artwork is nice, her sprite emotes every now and then, which is a step up from the static images typical to the genre of Japanese Vn's. The story is lighthearted, definetly not something to be too deeply invested in, its almost just used as a means to expedite the storyline along to fit with the narrative. Yuuri is not the worst, she's cute withe her overbearing personality, but not so over the top that she's annoying, imo. Her reveal about her true self is not that much of a surprise, as most people only have a perception of who they like, without actually knowing what the person was like, which is what happens between protag-kun and Yuuri, he falls for the initial facade she puts up, but then grow to like her real self as well. It's actually more like real life than many would like to admit, and at least Yuuri is actually upfront with her hidden self, unlike many in reality, which does make her a bit unrealistic imo.
It also leaves a lot to be desired in how it is everyone would be okay with protag-kun and Yuuri ending up living together through plot elements in the story. It's sort of just brushed aside, and we're left with a no answer for it.
I will say as a critism, the mosaic is over the top. Probably the worst i've seen in a while. I'll never understand Japan and their wariness of true nudity, but I still dig the stories they make. They even put in a censor "PING" that is attempted to be drowned out when they say naughty words like
Dick
... it's very jarring if you don't expect it. They attempted to drown out the ping's loudness, but it's still evident in the game. A final complaint will be that autotext is binded by default to F2, which is my volume control... Which means I can't auto scroll text. I don't mind clicking through the story as much this time for some reason, compared to other Eroge Visual Novels. I guess the story is involving enough to help me not notice. Those are basically the only complaints I have, the first one is inherent to Eroge's, but the second one confounds me, I haven't come across an Eroge before that censored words with loud pings to drown out the VA while they say the line, instead of simply not saying the line. I hope the other two sequels have improved UI, as this was okay, but basic, and lacked functions I would expect of a VN, as they were binded to controls, instead of having the option to scroll to via mouse like 90% of most Eroge Vn's I usually play.
But the story is solid enough to keep me engaged, lighthearted enough to make me not too invested in the story, but not to apathetic to the characters to where I don't care about them, It rides a fine line between having very little plot compared to having mainly character development between the Protag and Yuuri.
If I were to rate this, it'd be a 8/10. I'd say if you really like a light premise for a Eroge Visual Novel, and you don't mind having barebones functions, as well as being a fan of the artwork, then I'd say it's worth it on sale. The main gripes I sort of have are there is a lack of day to day development between them after day one, as it's sort of just jumpcuts to "and them a month passed" and so forth. Instead of conveying time going by, by showing it, they instead tell it... which is kind of a tone killer for any novel imo, as it set's aside questions the audience may have about what happens between them going forward. I really like Yuuri's sprites, they're varied enough, and use very aesthetically pleasing artwork.
