This was an unexpectedly fun game. You hop from planet to planet fighting bad guys and collecting new costumes and upgrades. The story was... good enough. I wasn't terribly invested in it, but it gets you from place to place. The combat and exploration were fun, and I really thought the dialogue between the characters was well done.
It felt like the Guardians were really developing as a team and learning to work together. This is shown not only through the dialogue (they argue less as the story goes and start to compliment and be more friendly with each other), but also in how abilities are used. For instance, earlier in the game you have to ask Groot to make bridges across gaps for you, but towards the end he does it without needing to be asked. The other guardians have things like this too, where they will start taking initiative and helping out without needing to be asked. I thought that was interesting and I liked it.
As I said, I liked the dialogue. Everyone is CONSTANTLY talking, which I find impressive since they don't seem to ever re-use dialogue. So I often found all these side conversations more interesting than the story itself.
I found the game pretty easy in normal difficulty. The combat system isn't complicated, but I did feel like I needed to depend on the other Guardians' abilities as it got harder, which was good as it forced me to learn new ways to combine them. One thing that was unique about the combat, and I really enjoyed, is the "huddle" ability that you can use in combat to give the team a boost and instantly revive anyone who has fallen. While the functionality is pretty much just a basic ability to get you out of a tight spot, the execution in this game is very unique. Your team gathers around you and you have to pick a line of dialogue to inspire them, and then one of the songs on your Walkman will play as you go back into combat. These moments really brought the combat from being pretty good to being actually fun. It just hits differently when you rush back into battle with a power boost and "Wake Me Up Before You Go Go" playing in the background.
I also spent a lot of time exploring and looking for collectibles. The maps are fun to look around if you have the patience to, and I enjoyed finding new costumes for everyone to wear. However, I was frustrated a few times when I accidentally went in the "right" direction and triggered an event that would keep me from fully exploring the section I was in, or I would not be allowed to turn back around for some reason.
There were choices I had to make throughout the game that seemed to affect how the story unfolded, but I'm not sure how much of an effect it really had since I only played through it once. However, it does seem like you can do things in dialogue scenes that will let you skip past certain encounters or will make parts of the game easier.
Overall, I'd give this a solid 7.5/10 - it's a fun time and worth trying out. I recommend getting it when it's on sale.

Now this is exactly what I was expecting from a Guardians of the frickin' Galaxy game! A story written so well you'd be forgiven in thinking that you're watching another entry in the cinematic universe. Each time I finished a session I was left wanting more, truly an awesome experience and much deserving of a sequel.
I could honestly talk about this game all day, but that's gonna be a lot of words and we sure as flark ain't reading any of 'em. Although I will touch on the things I enjoyed most.
The banter, I absolutely loved it! The characters just non stop chat with each other. Every area in the game has fresh dialogue keeping you laughing the entire time. Scut, each chapter itself was so well designed and fit the overall aesthetic we know and love.
Gameplay wise it's a lineal third person shooter with fun puzzle elements and world exploration. The combat system though simple is actually quite a lot of fun. You take the reins of the legendary Star-Lord, all the while commanding the rest of the guardians and their kick ass abilities. The huddle system to play music mid battle? Marvelous!
What a treat we got with a handful of the fantastic characters in the roster, with plenty of appearances sprinkled throughout the game and numerous mentions of others. And oh boy, how could I not mention the incredible soundtrack?! Not only did we get a wicked bunch of songs from the 80's they also created an in game band 'Star-Lord' and dropped the most metal album along side the game.
I have nothing but high praise for this flarkin sweet game, Loved it!

10/10 Masterpiece!
First of all, thank you for releasing this game on Steam, Eidos Interactive Corp.
This game is fantastic, hilarious and emotional.
I bought this game because I really enjoyed the Guardians of the Galaxy movies and wanted to see more adventures. And it was worth it. ^^
It's almost the best Marvel game I've ever played (Marvel's Spider-Man Remastered is still my #1), but this game is definitely in my top 3 best Marvel games.
It's definitely better than Marvel's Avengers (which is also kind of depressing because Marvel's Avengers feels like a live service game and not like Marvel's GotG (pure single player game)).
The gameplay is cool, the story mode is really good and the soundtracks are great.
I really hope you release a sequel in the near future.
Overall:
Thank you so much for releasing this game for the PC.
I would love for this game to be available on GOG. It would be a shame if this game is going to be removed from all stores due to licensing issues.
If you release a new Marvel or DC game, please don't make another live service game like Marvel's Avengers.

This game really made me want to read the comic run of these Guardians. It's a very charming game where it's ARPG elements have you be more of the leader than main damage dealer and I find that was done really well. The 5 Guardians come to life with really fun and smart writing. The character dynamics are chaotic and well balanced at the same time.
While it has some triple AAA quirks they're barely present compared to the sheer passion on display.
The choices also add a fun layer to having to play as Star Lord, it's up to you to make the best choices for your rag-tag bunch. It's really a shame the Avengers game dampended all the expectations for this one because this game is a really great and fun time. If you want a 20 hour game that has a lot of fun and soul within. You can't go wrong with Guardians of the Galaxy.
The licensed music choices are also very inspired, and are the one thing present from the films. The choices are 10/10, not to mention the original music made for the game for the fictional band that Star Lord admires.
It's honestly just a well made and fun game. With surprising emotional highs.

This game was awesome man. I loved the writing, and story and dialogue. It was a nice balance of comedic and serious moments. I enjoyed the party interactions and their banter, and the gameplay was so damn fun along with the level design and combat, and really fun mechanics. I liked giving orders to the other guardians, it really put me in Starlord's shoes.
It's such a great take on the guardians. It's a shame that this game kinda flew under the radar due to the massive shitshow that was the Avengers game which resulted in a lot of misconceptions around this game, and SE's lack of promo and marketing for this guardians' game which would've done this game wonders if only they paid more attention to it; nonetheless, I'm glad I got to enjoy this gem.

This game is surprisingly really fun. It is effectively a modern final fantasy game with a marvel makeover. This results in a very fun, linear game where you play as Star Lord exclusively. At first I was sceptical about only playing as Star-Lord but it worked out quite well. You get to make decisions and they do matter to an extent, with the player being able to skip sections depending on decisions they make earlier. Like the other reviews have said, the combat does get a bit repetitive but the game is short enough for that not to kick in until the very end of the game.
Overall, a solid game but nothing crazy special. Worth playing if you are a fan of Marvel or even the modern final fantasy formula of games. I would rate this game a 8/10
This game gives you a long list of good reasons to hate its guts.
And I won't lie, it's difficult not to get pissed very often while playing it. But in the end all this rage become futile if you manage to accept the fact that it's more a movie than a game.
Yes, you're entering a semi-interactive movie, with some scenes where you are literally restricted to only being able to push the forward button to progress the story and dialogs while your character walks forward, and stop the dialogs when he stops (It gives a whole new meaning to "walking simulator"). Most of the time it will be a standard third-person FPS but with so many invisible walls that it would be literally impossible not to get where the game wants you to. You're allowed to explore a few nooks to collect collectibles, but all of the game is on rails.
There are a couple QTE events here and there, but thankfully you can disable them in the menus, and it is strongly advised to do so at the start because some QTEs are just broken on PC, and seem impossible to pass.
The game offers all the spectacle you can find in a marvel movie and sometimes more. It is visually somptuous with a RTX card which makes for sometimes incredible vistas, although the ray tracing is not always very well integrated with the traditional polygons. I'd advise people subject to epilepsy to be careful as some scenes are visually heavy, often dizzying.
The audio department is another treasure with almost endless dialogs and 'Marvel Quips' from your ragtag team. Yeah, if you have Marvel fatigue you should avoid playing this. Very often you'd wish they would just shut up, but other times it delivers interesting bits of Marvel lore this way and you can just relax and enjoy the chatter.
The combat is the point the most often criticized in reviews, with the expression "bullet sponge enemies" coming back the most, but I feel like all these reviewers just hadn't accepted the movie nature of the game, and were trying to git good at the combat instead of just relaxing and doing the obvious. I personally found most of the combat sequences very easy, because I realized pretty early that in each fight , the game was just expecting you to accomplish the actions that you were very unambiguously expected to do and nothing else.
For example, sometimes you'd just have to use the new ammo-type you just acquired to defeat a certain type of enemies that were only vulnerable to it, other times you'd have to avoid all the respawning enemies and just run to the objective as fast as possible as the dialogs would tell you to. Other times it would be a matter of just surviving long enough to have a cinematic happen and win the combat, or understand that you have to kill certain enemies first, etc, etc...The voice lines of your teammates always give you hints as to what to do.
But if you didn't understand the current "rules" and follow them properly, then yes the combat would drag on potentially forever. Toward the end, the combats start dragging a bit , but it was to be expected.
The most annoying aspect to me was the pseudo-branching nature of the scenario, with a lot of real-time dialog choices, and team management outcomes, of which you'll have no idea if they're relevant to anything or not, but they make you think you might have made some wrong decisions along the way and missed something. Sometimes you will literally miss some things, as the game has a way to lock you out of coming back to pick up a collectable you left for later while exploring, with a lot of map-locking slides, and sudden cinematics that will autosave and propel you to the next chapter when you don't expect it. This will be particularly annoying to completionists, and it was annoying to me, but it was at that point I realized the game was just trolling and pretending to be deeper than it really is, and I stopped caring. One shoud just not expect to 100% the game on their first run, or at all, and the long and tedious nature of the gameplay will prevent you from replaying it soon.
In fact I think the confusing and messy nature of all those missed opportunities encouraged immersion, and you will finish the game no matter the options you chose.
As for the scenario, I found this game more interesting than the third GOTG movie. Yeah...I know, this was not difficult. The third movie is garbage. But let's just say the scenario was pretty good and interesting and it was more related to the old comics than to the movies.
Probably the most interesting aspect of the game to me, is that they didn't use the actors likeness and voices, so they explored different audio-visual interpretations of the comic-book characters and the story differs strongly from the movie arc, with for example a different thanos backstory. It was very refreshing and I found all the characters interpretations better here than in the movies (except for thanos who seems to lack a few polygons).
The performance is not always at the top and the game sometimes stutters during cinematics. Some of the levels seem badly optimized. The hair shader is omnipresent but looks weird until you put DLSS on, but then you get ugly artifacts in the depth of field effects.
The loading times are very long, even with a SSD, and sometimes that makes restarting the fights very tedious. But as I said, the combats were rarely a problem.
I paid $20 for this and I felt like I had my money worth. Although I'd advise to pick it at 10 or less. I had a mediocre game but a pretty interesting 30+ hours GOTG movie. eh. Why not.

Good game, if you can get it on sale its a solid buy. Overall fun and the environments are great. Worst things about it are janky animation and some of the more boyish styles they force on a few of the female characters but its not too pushy. solid 6/10 If they come out with a sequel then improving their animation, making combat more involved (locking onto enemies just isn't as fun after 20 hours), and the ship driving/combat needs to be vastly improved as its BY FAR the worst thing about the game.

I know I’m a few years late to this one, but it’s amazing to me how slept on this game was. Extremely cinematic with some stunning set pieces and densely packed with dialogue. This is a fun and hilarious ride if you’re a fan of the IP. The characters are not a 1 to 1 take on the movie interpretations and as much as I love the recent movies, I am quite enjoying seeing another take on them.
The movement feels satisfying overall and the combat works, even if it can be a bit bullet spongy at points and perhaps too reliant in the later game on the rock paper scissors of using the right ability on the right enemy. Giving the team commands felt a little clunky at first, but after some time it became more intuitive and by the end it was a blast spamming abilities with the crew.
The iconic 80s soundtrack is here and as a nice extra touch, they have added an option in the menus to replace copyrighted music with royalty free music in case you have an interest in streaming the game.
It does have a few technical issues, with some stuttering as new scenes load in. Peter could on occasion catch on geometry and start glitching. I once took an elevator early, leaving the rest of the crew and I could hear them continue talking as if they were with me, but their dialog got more and more quiet as I left them behind. These issues were always jarring in that the rest of the game was so polished that I am always caught off guard. I understand that the game probably wasn’t a commercial success and so it’s less likely to get these fixes, but it’s still a bummer that it didn’t get the post launch love that it deserved.
If you are a fan of Guardians at all, I really do recommend this. It will be an absolute shame if this never sees a sequel.

It's a pretty fun linear game with great dialog/characters, awesome music, and a unique battle-commander vibe when fighting.
There were a few bugs that just required me to back out of the game and pick up on the last checkpoint, and post game collectible hunting leaves much to desire.. that being said, at $8.99 I enjoyed my 20 hour game play.

Entertaining, fun at times, but clunky and buggy. Achievement hunting has no quality of life comforts, and replayability is minimal.

Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy surprised me with how fun, funny, and heartfelt it is—Rocket absolutely steals the show.
You only play as Star-Lord, but it works surprisingly well, with solid combat, team synergy, and great decision-based moments. The story is classic Guardians: emotional, action-packed, and full of hilarious, non-stop banter that builds real team chemistry.

Lovely environments. Great music, funny dialogues, great story. VERY Underrated gem!!
Everything from art, music, action, pacing, story all seems to have been done with tons of passion and knowledge of the source material.
Every chapter has distinct and beautiful locations/planets that are extremely well designed and immersive.
Thankfully there is no side bloat and any hunts for resources, costumes are pretty much on the way to playing the actual story and are not painful fetch quests/time sinks.
The dynamic between the team is built and earned over the story. There are some really deep, heart warming and wrenching moments.
The idle chats on the ship are hilarious, Poor Peter and his Toothbrush :)
No micro-transactions, live service nonsense. Very focused and well crafted story adventure with combat, some exploration, gawking at beautiful visuals and laughing at the idle and even in combat banter.
PS - Controller Recommended :)

Great for fans of the comics or the movies. The Guardians are the best ragtag group that feels like a real friend group so close they might as well be family. I was laughing through the whole game and loving every comic book reference. I feel like this game does a great introducing little bits and pieces of comic book lore that could get someone interested in reading! The story is very captivating and I love the constant progression. While not the longest game in the world having a busy life means a 23 hour game is the perfect length for me. I might even complete the New Game+ and go for all the achievements

Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy delivers an unforgettable adventure filled with heart, humour and breathtaking visuals that transports us across the galaxy.
Its story was a rollercoaster of emotions, making me laugh, cry, and cheer for the team as they faced various cosmic threats.
The gameplay emphasizes on teamwork, allowing us to experience the chemistry of the Guardians firsthand, showcasing strategic combat, powerful group abilities and a lot of witty banter.
Highly recommended for any fan of narrative-driven games.

Perfectly serviceable action game with a surprisingly touching story, and frequently frustrating mechanics. Worth playing at a discount. Lots of fun moments, frantic battle action. Not a game of the same caliber as a Mass Effect, but has similar squad based gameplay.
The spaceship sequences are horrible. The squad based exploration abilities get in the way more than it enhances the game. I wish it was heavier on story and the action a little less "arcadey" but for a Marvel game it exceeds expectations.

I just finished the game, recently. I am totally planning a second play through. This game is such a hidden gem. It's really short but the amount of character and enjoyment you will get out of this game is immense if you are a big guardians of the galaxy fan. This game is story heavy.
The soundtrack is amazing, when isn't it! The game play can be a bit stale, it's very basic and i was able to collect all perks well before the end of the game.
And i know the choice system isn't exactly branching you off to a whole new game, but i loved being able to choose what I would respond.
TLDR: Play this game if you love a good fun story and don't mind a little bit of tedious fighting in between.

A good game but a better animated movie.
Gameplay really is taking the backseat on this title its all about the story and its not a terrible story infact pretty good for video game standards
If your PC can run all the fancy graphics definitely worth your money to experience it.
I also like how all of the achievements are based on normal gameplay and doesn't force you to do something extremely boring like playing the game in Extreme Difficulty or Online achievements definitely a game you can complete if you want to and enjoy seeing it in your library.
Its a shame the game got 0 attention and almost no coverage despite being so good. Gaming industry has became a real cutthroat business now a game that took an entire province of France to make probably didn't even recuperate its cost.

This is a great game, super fun, the banter you expect from GotG at all times. There can be some janky/buggish moments but it's nothing that ruins anything. Can't beat doing an inspirational huddle mid fight, hyping everybody up, and doing the rest of the fight to "Don't Worry, Be Happy" or "Take on Me".

Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy was a wonderful experience its a real shame no one picked it up when it came out because now that means we wont ever get a sequal. The only thing that annoyed me in Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy was the fact that I was unable to 100% the game due to a bug with the trophy 'Lore Hoarder'. But aside from that the game was great and i would 100% recommend this game to any marvel fans.

Honestly, LOVED the story, some parts I didn't like but most of it was phenomenal. My biggest problem was the game play and glitches, especially the glitches with not receiving a specific achievement. Too add onto that as my frustration as a completionist the load times were surprisingly long and some cut scenes were unskippable. Also want to add the ship controls are abusive at least on mouse and keyboard. Just going to be nitpicky but thought it would be nice to choose any song you want to listen to while you're playing instead of having to use the huddle ability. Sometimes the facial animations were a bit funky and wish there was a bit more to the combat. Even though I have said al ot of negative things about it the overall experience is epic and unforgettable this game is AMAZING. Flarkin loved playing it for the first time and highly recommend it! Just wish it was able to get more polished and even though its unlikely hope there's a sequel!
