To put it simple: The graphic is outdated, the controls are tedious, the audio synchro is terrible. But this is the most complete pirate game available. The story is motivating and the world feels alive. The Caribbean in this game has soo much to offer, and it is both satsifying and fun exploring the mechanics and the world. Edit: I also love the devs personally. The way you still update and care about the game wants to make me having children with you. <3

This game is unapologentically bad at giving you any amount of information regarding anything it wants you to do, making completing quests impossibly hard without prior knowledge, and sometimes the quests just break completely. There are no posted deadlines, no hints, or even basic information in the quest log about most things concerning what the game wants from you, I had to piece together information from guides, reddit and youtube to even point me in the correct direction. Take for instance the shipwright's stolen item quest: You are tasked with finding a thief and returning said object, there is ONE NPC in the entire town that gives a piece of dialogue to spawn the thief. Problem is there are more than 50 NPCs per town randomly strolling around a not small area, none of which point you any closer until you accidentally stumble into them. THEN it spawns in the thief... in a random location somewhere on the island. THEN once you find him he either gives you the item or tells you his dropped it somewhere OR HE JUST LEAVES AND YOU DONT GET ANYTHING. walking aimlessly for 2 IRL hours to then have nothing to show for it is just insanity. All of this info is simply non existent in the game BTW, oh and also if you don't do this quest within 7 in game days it just fails automatically with no knowledge of that suspense... Great game design honestly. Take your POS game and shove it, what a waste of time. There's a 30,000 word guide for this game on steam because the game itself tells you nothing about how any of it works, including skills, attributes, why stuff costs how much, where and how to do essential things. A guide which I cannot bring myself to read because I shouldn't have to... This game needs a complete overhaul to make it playable, Stay away.

This game reminds me of Pirates, and as someone that played that game for hours when it originally came out it brought back many good memories. That was all it accomplished. This game is a dumpster fire in every other aspect. They want to have console style battles with keyboard inputs that require multiple selections to accomplish a single action. Instead of making the keyboard selections 1 key entries you have to focus on another part of the screen to make sure you are moving a cursor along a selection tree to make the right selection while still trying to fight multiple enemies who are over powered and capable of 2 or 3 shotting you if you don't hold your defenses. That's just the fighting. Second is the economy of the system. Buy and selling ships is not a viable action in this game. If you think that boarding a ship and selling it will gain you large operating capital in which to get better equipment to help you off set the problems with the keyboard settings and keep you alive longer you will be sorely mistaken. You will receive 10% of the cost of the ship when you sell it. Also, anything except the captain left on board you will lose, including the crew. Once in port you must open up the menu to switch everything over prior to landing and attempting to sell it, or you lose it and you won't be compensated in the sale. The damage taken in doing this will not be offset by the sale of the taken ship either. Expect 10-20% damage to your ship no matter how carefully you handle the attack. The funds gained by selling the ship you have taken will not cover the cost of repairs. This makes this entire economic structure broken. Third, is the grinding required to keep the story moving. Because of the failed economic structure this game is very grinding in nature. To keep the story moving requires a growing accumulation of funds, without a way to make this happen. This requires you to steal, explore, and repeat over and over to accomplish the smallest advancement in the story. Let's do some trading then right? Nope, there is no training in the tutorial in how the trading economics work, only a verbal warning that it will not generate enough funds. There is no way to know if you are headed to a port that will hurt you or help you with the cargo you have in your hold. Which brings me to the last problem. Lastly, why have special crew members when they can't help you when you need them? Why have navigators that can't tell you where you are going or where a port is? Because the game won't let you sail a ship without one. Why have vanguards that can't follow you into an ambush inside a building? Because, you need someone to help you in the streets if you get caught stealing. Why have a purser who can't tell you where to sell your cargo for the highest coin? Get my point. You spend good money to get these specialists and yet they don't allow you anything special beyond a token assistance. All in all when you have to play a game like this, in this day and age, with a map of the Caribbean open on the second screen just to know where you are and where you are going, this game is not ready for release. When you have to build spreadsheets to keep track of cargo and ports to give you even an idea of how to benefit from trade, this game is not ready for release. When you have to over fortify and arm yourself to survive the standard story line, because the specialized bodyguards you have hired can't follow you into a 3 v 1 fight, this game is not ready for release. When you have to go through 3 key strokes to heal yourself while in said 3 v 1 fight, this game is not ready for release. When the developers are releasing DLCs without fixing these other problems first? This game is not ready for release, and you should go running the other direction from anything these developers are involved with. Is this game savable? Yes, I believe it is. It will require a complete overwrite of the combat structure, economic structure, and companion structure just to be possible of being savable, but is is possible. In reality this game needs to be taken down, completely reworked and then relaunched to achieve what it is trying to achieve. I commend the developers for trying to recreate the pleasure of the classic Pirates in this modern game, but you have missed the target by a large margin. You can't take the play style of Pirates and make it more complicated and think you will have a playable game. You can accomplish you goal with modern game play styles, but you do that with the story not with the combat, economics, and companions. We have come a long way since Pirates has come out and this game does nothing to acknowledge that. Until this changes, I won't be recommending Caribbean Legend.

Dear developers Do u have а date, when we can know that we won't have to start a new game!? Because, personally, I (I think many) play the game slowly, and when a global patch comes out, you don't want to replay the game again, but at the same time, of course, you want new achievements and updates, that's normal! This is some kind of pressure on players who play the game slowly!

This game is some unbalanced BS. Level 2 Captain chased by 3 level 5 bounty hunters because of missed delivery; there is no winning that outcome. First attempt to deliver Rats destroyed 15 pieces of cargo. Bought 15 pieces, now it is 501 pieces missing, bought 501 pieces; attempted to turn in; merchant would not accept 501 pieces. Sail to new port, 3 bounty hunters are in pursuit. Become blockaded in new port by mercenaries, cannot deliver cargo because I cannot beat 3 level 5 mercenaries with minimum crew and a level 2 captain. Some of the most infuriating BS game I have played. I understand an amount of difficulty or challenge to a game, but when newbie players don't stand a chance; it's too much. Players do not stand a chance. F***K this BS.

Low quality/effort. A lot of very old bugs not being addressed. Lots to do but none of it is any fun because everything is so barebones. A disappointing purchase for me, even with the summer sale.

This a pirate game i wanted to like but cant. First off the game loves being slow in the worse of ways, sailing is slow tedious affair that not even the fast forward works to mitigate this issue as you are still as slow as Molasses. There are a lot of bad fetch quests in the game (lots of back and forth). combat sucks on purpose as skills & officers are needed but it does not feel good to suck for hours. the journal is usless as it doesnt not track goal and deadline Savescumming is must and required as the game tries to screw you at every instance the global map sucks to use as times passes very fast as you just look for destination (requiring savescumming to view the goal then reload to travel so that time used wasnt wasted as deadlines are that tight and you cant guess the traveltime) The game in its current state is not good and is not what i wanted from a pirate game.

The update does imporve the base game to a crazy degree and i belive the team makes an amazing work, espesialy when it comes to textures. But there are still alot of issues when you just NEED a guide for the game, otherwise you lose a compation, have to disband your armada, even to lose your own ship. I simply hope that during the quests there will be no "oh your main ship got on fire while you were away"

This game is a scam. They removed content from the DLC a few updates ago, yet they’re still selling it. I can’t use any of the so-called starter ships from the DLC anymore, and there’s absolutely no support or help.

I wish I could recommend this game; but so far I can't. The naval combat itself is pretty much exactly what you see in the trailer videos and it's worthwhile. In fact it was good enough on its own to keep me playing for days. But there are some things that were annoying and just got more annoying the longer I played. For example...what's up with no letters of marque in sandbox? Where's the logic in that? I suppose if you want to play as a straight up pirate, then you wouldn't necessarily care about 'official permissions'. But what if you wanted to play as someone dedicated to the cause of one of the nations? Why skip over one of the most rewarding mechanisms ever developed for these sort of games - the feedback loop of receiving an 'official status' to go to war for a nation, and the rewards you get for fulfilling that task? For that matter, why does it take an agonizing amount of effort to raise your reputation with a nation? I spent at least two whole IRL days battering France's enemies and carrying out missions for every French governor I could find and at the end of all of that the difference between what the French thought of me (who I helped at every turn, including even saving their fleets at sea) and the Spanish (who I sunk almost every time I saw them) was...not anywhere near as significant as you might expect. I was literally having to closely inspect the reputation bars to see the difference. Why do I 'lose honor' if I turn pirates over to a governor? How does this make any sense? Why are my only choices with slaves to sell them or dump them overboard? Why do I have to hire prostitutes to 'gain vitality' (which of course also loses you honor...a mechanism that on the one hand makes at least ethical sense but on the other is a maddeningly silly gameplay mechanic)? For that matter, why do I have no choice but to wait until we get to the simulated 'sex sounds' window to exit out? I get it, it's a 'pirate' game set in a time and place where everyday moral standards were not the same as they are today - but why force players to wallow in it, why not give them options to play as someone more 'noble' or 'enlightened' or whatever fantasy version of 'pirates' they want to live out? The janky jungle searches and hunts for ships that never actually appear on the map, the english text that is just comically bad at times, the constant parade of officers who have decided that *now* is the time to abandon the captain that is making them rich, the cumbersome cargo transfer mechanisms...all of it adds up and just wears you down. This game has a fairly rewarding naval combat element - which is huge - but that isn't enough to overcome all the rest.

Worst early game experience i've ever had. The world is populated with all manner of things you will never hope to defeat without seemingly dozens of hours of mission grinding. I'm guessing this game allows you to snowball in power somewhat, but I felt like I just melted as I rolled from port to port, always on the run from a massive pirate ship or ship my faction was at war with the moment I got a cargo mission that paid ~1400, just about double what my crew's cost was per month (~700)... and that doesn't count the 140 pesos worth of rum you burn each and every day which makes a single mistake or setback a crushing blow.

Literally unplayable due to the camera issues. I wanted to bite the bullet since I heard this would be like playing PoTC of 2003/New Horizons. But the janky camera getting stuck on foot makes it impossible to get anywhere without resetting the game or trying to find a door/area to reset the camera and even then it doesn't work. I spent 2 hours trying to get quest done and it's a chore because of this issue. Recommend not to get until they fix this.

While the Game is enjoyable. Gamebreaking Bugs in the Story are preventing me from enjoying the part i am here for , sailing and combat on the sea. The Camera gets constantly stuck on some colision points, guidance in the frankly blant Shore Locations is very bad. While it is a design descision i can respect i am not okay with the Camera getting randomly stuck and having to try to get out of houses, caves and other stuff.

This game has multiple annoying mechanics such as the fact that you lose all your crew once you dock a ship, the food/rum consumption from crew is too high, the translation is terrible and ship to ship combat is slow and favours boarding. With boarding, you end up losing so much of your crew, that when faced with a convoy of 3+ ships, you can't effectively fight them. If you try and sail depending on the angle of the wind, your ship will not move at all. Quests are sometimes vague and as mentioned before the translation can be flat out wrong sometimes forcing you to rely on guides. This game is not that popular, so for some quests you might not find any guide at all. There is no minimap, so you end up wondering aimlessly trying to complete your quests. I LOVE pirate games but after 76 hours of mostly frustration, I gave up without finishing the game. I really wanted to like this game

Caribbean Legend offers a sprawling pirate adventure set in the vibrant and tumultuous Caribbean during the Golden Age of Piracy. Players assume the role of Charles de Maure, a French nobleman on a quest to rescue his imprisoned brother, but this personal mission quickly expands into an epic journey filled with political intrigue, naval warfare, and treasure hunting. The game invites you to forge your own path—whether building a pirate empire, managing a colony, engaging in commerce, or climbing the ranks from a humble captain to a powerful governor or feared pirate lord. The game’s world is vast and richly detailed, populated with dozens of islands, bustling ports, dense jungles, and mysterious ruins. Each location offers numerous activities like trading goods, raiding enemy settlements, and uncovering hidden treasures. Naval combat is a key feature, featuring classic Age-of-Sail tactics such as maneuvering your ship, firing broadsides, and boarding enemy vessels. On land, combat shifts to party-based skirmishes where positioning and weapon choice matter, with muskets, swords, and poisons all in play. Crew management and recruiting skilled officers add strategic layers to maintaining your fleet and influence. Fans of classic pirate RPGs will find familiar mechanics here, as Caribbean Legend draws inspiration from older titles like Sea Dogs. The game expands on that legacy with a larger quest system, enhanced dialogue options, and new crafting and alchemy elements that enrich gameplay. However, the complexity and depth come with a steep learning curve. Many game systems are not thoroughly explained, often requiring players to consult guides to fully grasp trade mechanics, ship upgrades, and character development. This initial hurdle can feel daunting for newcomers or casual players. While the ambition behind Caribbean Legend is impressive, the execution is sometimes uneven. The graphics, though serviceable, feel dated and lack the polish of modern titles. Controls can be clunky, and technical issues such as bugs, awkward dialogue transitions, and occasional performance hiccups detract from immersion. Players report that repetitive combat and slow-paced naval battles may wear on those seeking a more dynamic experience. Additionally, the necessity to frequently backtrack between locations can slow the game’s pacing. Despite its flaws, the game shines in its immersive world-building and narrative scope. Themes of colonial ambition, the harsh realities of slavery, and the personal costs of power are woven throughout the story and side quests. Your choices carry weight, affecting how factions view you and influencing the development of towns and alliances. There is a broad array of achievements to pursue, rewarding exploration, trade mastery, and completing various story arcs, which encourages players to engage deeply with the sandbox elements. Overall, Caribbean Legend is a passionate homage to the pirate RPG genre that offers considerable depth and freedom but requires patience and perseverance. Its sprawling content and rich storytelling appeal to players who enjoy open-ended adventures and complex systems. However, those who prioritize smooth mechanics, modern visuals, and streamlined gameplay might find it frustrating. With ongoing updates and community support, Caribbean Legend continues to evolve, making it a worthwhile experience for dedicated fans of pirate lore and sandbox RPGs. Rating: 7/10

What i thought i was getting...a polished, updated version of Pirates of the Caribbean (2003 Microsoft). What i got was a butchered rip off of that game. Even the graphics aren't up to date. I regrettably have to eat what i payed for it...so maybe some day in the future they will do SOMETHING better with it. Controls, suck. interface SUCKS, OPEN world NOT. I HOPE they got permission to use the other game for this or they are going to be sued into their next life.

I'll state the obvious, it's a Sea Dogs assets reuse, from the art, to the main characters, to the coding, to pretty much cookie cutter adding new features and some QOL things Sea Dogs was missing. The intro was exactly the same story as Seas Dogs, find your brother, hes in jail, got to raise money to get him out. It's made from the same developers so not saying they ripped it off, but overall it's a bit less buggy then Sea dogs is and I see the updates here but I question why not make a sequel to Sea Dogs and use a newer engine and why use the leaked source code from 2009 on a Pirate game that got scrapped, back in the day there was over 50 of these games made with that code. I think it was Sid's pirate game or the canceled sequel. All that being said I overlooked all that and found a pretty good pirate game here, with some things I am really enjoying. I do have my issues with some of this being from an engine from 2007 limiting a lot of potential here. I hope they take what they have made with this game and Sea dogs and try and give a more updated version of this vision as there is something here, but I question if this team is just copy pasting leaked source code to games from way back when and trying to add a bit to them to make them feel unique or not direct just slapping code on some free assets and selling it on steam. The game is fun, yes it's janky, yes it's dated graphics, yes its built on a engine from 2007 with old code and a fresh coat of paint. The game does offer a lot of fun for what it is but I hope and really do prey these guys take this pirate style they have and make it into something new, modern and I feel that could be the Pirate game so many people are looking for.

The best pirate game out there, in a genre with surprisingly few options. The story mode is great fun: you start as a French nobleman fleeing to the New World after a duel with a cheated husband, and it’s well worth completing. The sandbox mode lets you pick from three characters, adding a Spaniard and an Englishman (yay!), for even more replayability. The only downside is the ancient engine and dated visuals. I’m 100% sure this is built on the Pirates of the Caribbean engine from 2003 (developed by the now-defunct Akella and published by Bethesda), and it shows—I recognised the visuals, animations, even the sound effects immediately. If you can get past that, you’ll have a lot of fun here.

I've only played for 13 hours so I'm definitely not an authority on this game. However, 80% of the 13 hours has been spent trying to figure out how to do things or traveling SLOWLY between islands. As an example, there's no instructions for how many supplies and money are required to hire the first crew as part of the story mode, and then the ship is very slow because I didn't realize I needed to complete a side quest to get a navigator, and then that side quest was boring and time consuming. As another example, it took me nearly an hour of REAL time to sale between 2 islands, tacking properly for max speed; and then when I check the World Map it advances time but bumps me back between the islands so I have to re-travel. And the World Map is never explained - can I use it for fast travel (the answer might be 'yes' but it isn't intuitive. I had high expectations for this game but after 13 hours of boredom and frustration, I'm done.
