We Are Lost

ENG: In We Are Lost, perhaps formerly known as Dark Elegance, MaDDoG's first work and his masterpiece, we will play the diligent Liam or the young Landon (names of player's choice) in an adventure that actually consists of two, relatively short, different, parallel, but overall narratively complementary, stories. Although it's essential to play as both characters to fully enjoy the title, and to learn a little more about the story, the developer has been clear that, canonically, regardless of the choice, only our protagonist will "get busy" with the girls, while the other man will behave like a perfect gentleman and remain courteously with his mouth, and tool, dry, so that, when in the second part the stories will coincide and the characters will reunite, the girls will not have been touched and will be ready as new at the disposal of the chosen protagonist. The story sees our family, composed of the father Liam, the mother Scarlett, the son Landon and Ashely and Velvet, respectively the older and younger daughter, or vice versa it's not clear who is who (relationships of player's choice), about to leave for a vacation to recharge their batteries and rebuild the now somewhat loosened family ties, but something goes wrong and incomprehensibly the family finds itself separated, with Landon and Scarlett on a small uninhabited island and Liam, Ashley and Velvet in a luxurious hotel equally deserted. Something definitely doesn't add up, but in the meantime everyone will have to roll up their sleeves to survive and understand what's going on. This is a multiple choice visual novel in which, after choosing the protagonist, the sporadic decisions directly and clearly affect the approach towards the girls until the next choice, namely Love or Corruption. Apart from these, the title behaves almost like a kinetic novel for adults that knows it is a porn game, therefore, once you get into it, situations will often tend to bend to the rules of the genre, but not at the expense of a bit of suspense and mystery. Unfortunately, the technical side isn't exaclty great, there are some overexposed whites and low-resolution textures here and there, the lack of Steam Cloud saves, an intricate system of relationships placed in a moment that creates confusion and that are not properly saved despite the initial prompt, in particular "mother" (in the Replay Gallery they can be corrected, but it doesn't seem to work either), a gallery, with all the same scene thumbs for each girl, that could bug out and not correctly record the unlocked scenes (therefore a dedicated button has been inserted to unlock it all on restart). The scenes are generally a little short, however quite frequent after the introductory phase and the animations simple, but not badly made, and functional, however, the models of the girls are the strong point of the work, in fact these, even if with a maybe somewhat limited repertoire of facial expressions even if captivating, are very well done. The soundtrack is also pleasant and accompanies well the otherwise silent story, while sometimes the textual narration makes up for the images that skip moments and do not always follow exactly what is happening. [spoiler]Personal note: with three times the scenes as the others (29 against 9 and 9 in the gallery, and she's also the only one to cross the boundaries of anal sex), it's clearly Scarlett who's the focus, and rightly so, in fact for me she's the best girl here, followed very closely by Ashley, who nevertheless has more than something to marvel at, and Velvet, who despite initial hesitation certainly does not fall much behind. I think both sisters would have deserved more and to be on par with Scarlett as scenes, if not for each, at least in total, I would have gladly seen much more of Ashley in particular. Honorable mentions goes to Elena and detective Lauren.[/spoiler] ____ ITA: In We Are Lost, forse noto in precedenza come Dark Elegance, prima opera di MaDDoG e suo capolavoro, saremo chiamati ad interpretare il solerte Liam oppure il giovane Landon (nomi a scelta del giocatore) in un avventura che di fatto consiste in due storie relativamente brevi, differenti e parallele, ma nel complesso narrativamente complementari. Anche se è indispensabile giocare nei panni di entrambi i personaggi per godersi appieno il titolo, e per saperne un po' di più sulla vicenda, lo sviluppatore è stato chiaro che, canonicamente, indipendentemente dalla scelta, soltanto il nostro protagonista si "darà da fare" con le ragazze, mentre l'altro uomo si comporterà da perfetto gentiluomo e rimarrà cortesemente a bocca, e arnese, asciutti, così che, quando nella seconda parte le storie collimeranno e i personaggi si riuniranno, le ragazze non saranno state toccate e saranno pronte come nuove a disposizione del protagonista scelto. La storia vede la nostra famigliola, composta dal padre Liam, dalla madre Scarlett, dal figlio Landon e da Ashely e Velvet, rispettivamente figlia maggiore e minore, o viceversa non è chiaro chi sia chi (relazioni a scelta del giocatore), in procinto di partire per una vacanza onde ricaricare le batterie e ricostituire gli ormai un po' allentati legami famigliari, ma qualcosa va storto e inspiegabilmente la famiglia si trova separata, con Landon e Scareltt su di un piccola isoletta disabitata e Liam, Ashley e Velvet in un lussuoso hotel altrettanto deserto. Qualcosa decisamente non torna, ma intanto ognuno dovrà rimboccarsi le maniche per sopravvivere e capire cosa sta succedendo. Si tratta di una visual novel a scelta multipla nella quale, dopo la scelta del protagonista, le sporadiche decisioni vanno direttamente e chiaramente ad incidere sull'approccio verso le ragazze fino alla prossima scelta, ossia Amore (Love) o Corruzione (Corruption), a parte queste, il titolo si comporta quasi come una kinetic novel per adulti che sa di essere un gioco porno, pertanto, una volta ingranato, le situazioni tenderanno di frequente a piegarsi alle regole del genere, ma non a discapito di un po' di suspance e mistero. Purtroppo il comparto tecnico lascia un pochino a desiderare, tra qualche bianco sovraesposto e texture in bassa risoluzione qui e là, l'assenza dei salvataggi su Steam Cloud, un intricato sistema di relazioni posto in un momento tale da creare confusione e che non vengono propriamente salvate nonostante il prompt iniziale, in particolare "mother" (nella Replay Gallery si possono correggere, ma non sembra funzionare lo stesso), una galleria, dalle icone di scena per ragazza tutte uguali, che potrebbe buggarsi e non registrare correttamente le scene sbloccate (pertanto è stato inserito un pulsante apposito per sbloccarla tutta al riavvio). Le scene sono generalmente un po' brevi però piuttosto frequenti dopo la fase introduttiva e le animazioni semplici, ma non per questo mal realizzare, e funzionali, sono tuttavia i modelli delle ragazze il piatto forte dell'opera, infatti questi, anche se con un repertorio di espressioni facciali forse un po' limitato pur se accattivanti, sono assai ben fatti. Anche la colonna sonora è piacevole e accompagna bene l'altrimenti silenziosa vicenda, mentre talvolta la narrazione testuale sopperisce alle immagini che saltano momenti e non sempre seguono per filo e per segno quanto sta accadendo. [spoiler]Nota personale: con il triplo delle scene rispetto alle altre (29 contro 9 e 9 nella galleria, in più è anche l'unica a varcare i confini del sesso anale), è chiaramente su Scarlett che si è puntato, e a ragione, infatti pure per me è lei ad essere la best girl qui, tallonata da Ashley, che comunque ha di che stupire, e da Velvet, che nonostante l'iniziale esitazione non rimane certo tanto indietro. Credo che entrambe le sorelle avrebbero meritato di più e di essere al pari di Scarlett come scene, se non a testa, almeno in totale, in particolare di Ashley avrei visto molto di più molto volentieri.
