Builders of Greece

I purchased this game in the beta and it was pretty good, but rough around the edges. I decided to try it out again after the 'full release' and I was disappointed. Several positive features from the beta were removed, and some systems have been replaced with a poorer quality system. Some of the in-game missions/challenges are not well thought out and stunt the flow of gameplay, making it seem like things weren't thought out. There are also only 3 maps, and the save function does not work properly. Pros: - looks and sounds great, really captures the ancient Greek vibe. - lots of buildings to choose from. - can build and manage massive cities. - fairly intuitive and easy to learn. - mission progression starts quite well and guides you well. Cons: - several beta features removed and/or replaced. (eg tech tree completely gone, battles are now a 'card' system and not real-time). - despite good early progress, late-game progression really stalls. Enemies invade quicker than you can replace your troops, and later missions require absurd amounts of resources to complete. - trade system has devolved. - Once you've played one map, the others are just the same, but with small islands and more building restrictions. This is the only way the difficulty really 'scales'. I would not recommend this at 'full release' unless it has huge additions. There is a lot of potential here, but if this is the full game with no update then avoid it.

I don't like the "battles" or the frequency of them on the new beginnings scenario (It's all I've played so far) especially when two ships show up. I know I could auto battle but I end up losing soldiers doing that when I could fight myself and lose none. It takes 5-7 minutes away from the city building, and I actually do enjoy the building part. If it was actually challenging or a cool mechanic I wouldn't mind.....But man, the raider ships are annoying more than fun. This game is OK 5/10 I recommend only if on sale.

Issues with saving the game. maybe play from autosaves if you can?

Good straight forward control.

It just wasn't enjoyable.
