Bethesda seems determined to ruin this game. Every update they completely re-balance the game in the most idiotic way possible. It's an uphill battle of building a good perk card load-out and gear only for it to be nerfed the very next update. This constant moving of the "re-balancing" goalposts is a poor distraction to the fact that the game has zero endgame content and is mind-numbingly boring. I've repeatedly rebuilt multiple characters for the past 3 updates at great time and in-game resource expense. Upon hearing that the update coming this autumn is going to have yet another combat re-balance I'm just gonna cut my losses and stop playing because I really can't be bothered to spend hundreds of hours gathering stuff to rebuild my characters yet again for them only to be useful for a couple of months. That's only the most recent problem and just the beginning of what's wrong with this game. For example, Fallout 76 takes a massive departure from the style of the other fallout games and is full of much more zany, often cringe humour and dialogue writing. The art direction is also much worse than the other games and it's getting progressively worse every update. A recent trend amongst the fallout 76 art team appears to be just sticking glowing crystals to everything to make stuff look more "radiation-y" (I.e. Vulcan Power Armour). Not to mention most of the game's original creature designs are just gigantic real-world mutated animals with little explanation as to how they became so large aside from the usual beaten dead horse of a plot device: F.E.V or generic radioactive mutations. Though I have to give them credit for the mutant creatures based on Appalachian urban legends and Cryptids, though they're few and far between and you rarely see them outside of a couple circumstances. The game also has a horrible monetisation model. You essentially have to pay a €/£12 monthly fee to even play the game since very basic features like convenient item and ammo storage are locked behind this subscription based paywall. The Atomic shop is another story. It's full of pay to win items like plans for crafting endgame weapons, multiple infinite item generators and powerful consumables. There are also a lot of cosmetic items in the Atom shop that may at first seem like a harmless way to make some money, but, many of the items are just lazy re-skins of items already in the Atomic shop but are sold again at full price. It's the kind of monetisation I would expect out of a shady mobile game. I was willing to overlook the game's shortcomings as a true to form Fallout game when it was still essentially a fun Fallout themed sandbox you could play with friends. Though after all this faux re-balancing, continued lack of end game content and exploitative monetisation it has absolutely nothing going for it.

I absolutely CANNOT recommend this game. While i have had some fun moments with friends, I've encountered more bugs than an infested crack house on a Sunday night. With most bugs, I've been able to do (usually) hours of research on and figure out. One made it to where i could not progress a main story quest for a MUCH NEEDED resource you can only unlock once completing the quest. Apparently this bug has been a known thing for YEARS and it hasn't been fixed. (Thank you REDDIT for the solution to that one btw because support was no use.) I've now run into a bug where i can't use my main gun (a priceless legendary i spent a hefty amount of time grinding for) only for Bethesda to tell me "did you try uninstalling and reinstalling the game?" Seriously? I've bought your game, bought a couple months of Fallout 1st back when i first started playing because I didn't know any better, and THIS is how you treat your community? After my time doing research for each bug, I've come to realize that a majority of the community feels the same. We need to push these reviews and let these newbies know not to get invested in a game made by people who don't care. You're only going to get burned in the end. What an unfortunate circumstance. This could have been a game beyond it's time. If only it weren't made to be a MONEY GRABBER. And don't even get me started on how awful building is and how they changed the monthly seasons rewards despite the lash back. All of it comes back to greed.

Overhated, yet completely rife with untapped potential. The gameplay loop of Fo76 is comprised of 3 parts 1. A typical fallout experience 2. Building your personality (Character, Camp, Culture) 3. A light smattering of MMO-centric progression. FAQ Is this playable without Fallout 1st? Absolutely, it is largely accessible without first. You will miss out on convenience (stash weight will be a problem unless you are active about cleaning out). You will be locked out of some cosmetics. NO GAMEPLAY IS LOCKED BEHIND FIRST. Has this game improved since launch? This game is leagues better than it was, with even more support coming. This is not a "No Mans Sky" level of turnaround, but I absolutely believe this a worthwhile fallout entry at this point in time. What are the worst parts about Fo76? Bugs, Crashing, and Bethesda optimization. Bethesda is slow to fix bugs, let alone fix engine issues. On PC, I haven't run into too many issues, but they are there and they are annoying. What is your biggest gripe? Update the music PLEASE. It has been years listening to this same radio host with the same song. I'm begging. Give it a chance on Deep Sale, be pleasantly surprised. It's as they say, Fo76 so good when you ain't got a guy in ya ear telling you it's worthless.

I like this game, it's satisfying when a build works out and you're officially a *Decent* player. Other than that, this game's a pure money pit. Expect to spend money if you want a super ultra positive experience. There are work arounds to having a premium experience like a mobile c.a.m.p. setup, but still you'll have to manage your inventory and stash. Every update they are constantly buffing and nerfing the perk cards abilities, so you always have to adapt and rework your build. I personally like the fallout franchise and this feels like a fallout game, but with the added 24 players that share the world with you. Fun game but not for everyone

Much, MUCH better than in previous years, I'm way into it now. Incredibly addicting, there's always something going on. I re bought this on the steam summer sale (I originally owned it on PS4) and I'm so happy that I did, it's an entirely new game compared to what it used to be. I've put 50 hours into it in 5 days. The camp mechanics are fun, the world actually feels lived in with tons of NPCs with unique storylines and dialogue, it feels more like a mainline modern Fallout game now. I would highly recommend it if you're an OG fan, or someone maybe picking it up because you enjoyed the show. When I first pre ordered this game and played it 5ish years ago, I was beyond disappointed, especially as a huge Fallout fan. The world seemed empty, every quest was through a terminal or given by a robot. Mechanics were janky, it wasn't fun at all and it felt like a chore to play. If you haven't played it in years, I'd definitely recommend checking it out again.

Do you like Fallout? Do you like Base Builders? Do you like FPS or TPS? If the answer to any of these questions is yes, then this game is not for you.

I've been here since release and I can say that I still love this game. Is it the best MMO on the market? Certainly not. But over the years the game has changed much for the better. I enjoy being able to explore the wasteland with my friends and have made great friends through the various online communities that center this game. Give it a shot!

I played Fallout 76 for two months, hit level 170, and logged 186 hours. I've also played Fallout 3, New Vegas, and 4. If you liked Fallout 4, there's a good chance you'll enjoy this too. The gameplay feels very similar—maybe even identical. But let me be clear: this isn’t really a first-person shooter. It’s an inventory management game with some shooting and story elements mixed in. A large part of your time will be spent scavenging, crafting, and managing what to keep or sell. The actual narrative and combat feel secondary. Because inventory management is such a core mechanic, you’ll eventually run into the base game’s storage limits. That’s when you’ll find yourself staring at the $13/month Fallout 1st subscription, which gives you unlimited storage for scrap and ammo. And because you’ve already sunk time into your character and the world, you’ll likely reach a crossroads—pay for inventory relief, or stop playing. It’s technically possible to finish the main questline without the subscription, and I think you should. If you do end up subscribing to Fallout 1st, the post-story endgame mostly revolves around completing events and daily quests for XP, treasury notes (which you trade for gold bullion), and seasonal challenges that reward gold tickets. These currencies let you unlock new plans—cosmetic and functional—for your gear and your base. That’s really the endgame: unlocking stuff to make your character, armor, and CAMP look cooler. I don’t mean for that to sound negative. I spent over a full week’s worth of time in-game and paid for a month of Fallout 1st. I do recommend Fallout 76. I just wish someone had explained up front what kind of game it really is, so I could have managed my expectations better.

I bought it on sale after finishing Fallout 4 because why not + im a fan of the series. The game is just a pure slogfest and its VERY uninteresting, the combat has that 0.5 sec of lag that gets tiring after a while and the whole concept of post-apocalyptic horror is gone, its a 60s America fest at this point but with radiation and monsters and bandits something. Look elsewhere.

Bethesda went from my favorite studio to my most hated. Their mocrotransactions are greedy and predatory, the gameplay has been the same since 2015, and they dont even give proper updates! FO1st is better than eso in the sense that it takes more from you wile you get less out of it. My wife and I canceled our 1st after repeated garbage updates and privateservers being worse than pubs. . Save your time, dont play this game. Most of my play time is loading and reloading, not playtime.

Have you ever wanted to play Fallout with friends? What about Fallout 4? If you've ever dreamed about playing Fallout 4 with friends in 2025 without any graphical updates and few mechanical differences but with lots of extra cosmetics and (much) better quest lines, then you'll enjoy this game. However, it isn't all sunshine and roses: the Atom store, your main source of newness is severely overpriced with most content at double its actual value. The DLCs, however nice, are rarely worth the cost and rarely provide the value they say they do. Lastly, Fallout 1st is a downright scam given how badly the QoL improvements it provides are needed: I hope you like never having enough storage space and being excluded from certain Atom shop sales. 1200 lbs just isn't enough given its the only storage in the game, all other forms of storage generally are just specialized connections to it, and gear weight is purposefully bloated when placed in the stash. As a live service game, you'd think it'd get more than just content drops; you'd be wrong. Well known bugs which have existed for years are still in the game. Hope you enjoy getting stuck in the donning power armor animation and waiting until it times out and teleports back to your inventory (a couple minutes). So a decent amount of good and a lot of bad. Still better than vanilla Fallout 4; Fallout 4 with mods and main quest overhauls...outside the scope of this review and a whole different story.

Please do yourself a favour and play anything else. It may look cool and interesting, I assure you it's pretty nonsense in service of drawing you to the most boring game ever made. The quests are tedious slogs which all fractal into 3 more tedious slog objectives with no fun to be found even if main parts of it don't break and halt your progress 80% of the way through a dungeon forcing you to restart from the beginning. The servers are geriatric and the game always takes 2-3 seconds to remember that you're trying to use a workbench or open a door, a solid third of your ammo will be eaten by the poor hit registration and even the camera is jittery and unresponsive sometimes, no matter which server I'm on or time of day. This ill-conceived piece of shit isn't worth the silicone it's printed on and certainly not worth £100 a year with the stupid subscription racket, if you buy that you are a tool of the highest order. This is an insult to the legacy of fallout and an insipid cashgrab.
This game is dreadfully boring (and broken).
Microtransactions, always online (unless you buy mothly subscribtion, which contains solo world lol) glitched NPC's and something that doesn't let me enjoy this game at all, which is ultra easy difficulty. Like whose idea was it to make a Fallout game without higher difficulty settings, i played 13 hours and haven't died ONCE, and not because im good, its because enemies deal at best 4 DAMAGE! I WOULD HAVE TO SIT STILL FOR A MINUTE FOR THEM TO KILL ME HOW IS THAT FUN?? You can EASILY kill npc 30 lvl's higher than you without a sweat, its just so boring, no challenge whatsoever, just run and gun no brain required. Additionaly, ghouls, riders, and other mobs are braindead. You can shoot them an they don't react, one moment they're chasing and after a while they forget their task. Basically twitching, lagging and stuttering like they got 200 ping. It's pathetic that Bethesda never did anything about that for 7 years since release. I've spent 160 hours in Fallout 4 last year and had 10x better time that in this pile of garbage money grab, im so dissapointed. I even had more fun in Fallout 3. Btw. you can't change brightness in this game. I've never in my life seen a game without brightness setting. update: after a while i started to ignore bugy AI and now its actually pretty fun to grind new weapons, still don't recomend tho

Jesus, why is it so difficult to play games? I have to put in a password each time it launches, and I can't even copy and paste. I was skeptical due to all the comments on their monetization. Despite that concern, it was a complete waste of time and money to even attempt to play the game.

Made it 40mins to the game before I realized I can't even build walls. Every wall in the CAMP build menu requires me to pay. They give you basic flooring. But not a wall?! I'm not spending more money on this trash just to use one of the core functions of the game. I thought maybe the game had improved in 5 years but I guess they made it worse.

I loved Fallout 4 and was excited for another immersive adventure in a dynamic world. Unfortunately, Fallout 76 requires an active connection to their servers to play, even if you just want to play single player. There was significant lag/delay in the first 20 minutes I played and that was enough to show me I should get my refund ASAP.

Used to be a rather addictive ratwheel (look at my hours!) but the introduction of seasons has actively undermined the purpose of playing this game. The best builds are routinely nerfed now, a practice that began after they made battle passes less rewarding, and new content is made to be played in a very specific way to simulate difficulty. Survival elements are gone, and there is absolutely no point in bothering with scavenging for food or water when you can just visit a level 500 player's camp and stock up on pemmican and purified water to keep your stomach and hydration bars filled for hours of real playtime. Each season routinely introduces new resource generators that give further food and water sources, often with powerful buffs attached that last for 60 minutes. Does it make up for the dozens of hours being wiped with balance changes? That is for you to decide, I suppose. With each expansion to the game being more depressingly underwhelming than the last, it really does make you wonder how much more they can scrape the bottom of this barrel.

Tried it out again after 3,5-4 years, not much content has been added, other than tedious expeditions and raids that you have to do a couple hundred times to farm out everything you want, they changed the perk cards entirely, and that 50 hours that i put in was rebuilding the build from scratch, and not new content. Oh, and they still haven't fixed some bugs since beta and launch, it's still basically bug ridden. You're basically at a disadvantage at the endgame if you don't pay 15€/month because almost every good thing is locked behind this monthly paywall, and with every update the stuff you get without the subscription becomes less and less. Features likes unlimited storage space for scrap, ammo, food, booster, season rewards, unique plans, buildings, the usual. The subscription costs 4x more for a year than the game itself, and you can buy more atoms, which is a premium currency for a shop within the game. In summary, personally i can play without 1st, but the lack of content, game breaking bugs is very dissapointing. Only buy it if it's on sale, and you really like fallout, and don't mind the frustrating bugs, bethesda's disregard for it's own community.

Look at it like this. Fallout 76 is an official mod overhaul of Fallout 4 with MMO lite features. It was a hot mess at launch, but its kind of growing on me. Once you realize that certain items in your inventory weight a ton ( missiles, water, stimpacks) and learn to manage your inventory accordingly the game is not bad at all. The card perk system makes the game and once you find your build it all comes together. Is it game of the year? No. Is it a game now worthy of your consideration and a blast to play with friends? Absolutely. Dont over think it.
Meh.
I gave this game a "thumbs down" because there's no "sideways thumbs" option. It's not a very bad game but it's not the best Fallout game I've played either. I will use Fallout 4 as caparison point for parts of my review, I am aware that Fallout 4 is not considered to be the best Fallout game either but it is the most similar to Fallout 76 so let's go with that one. Since there are some good points, I'll talk about those too.
The Design
The world in Fallout 76 is good-looking and definitely has a Fallout feel to it. It is more green and colourful than what we had in Fallout 4, which was all grey and brown mostly.
The Junk
There is stuff everywhere. you pick everything up, you get over encumbered. That's how it's supposed to be.
The Building
There is a ton a stuff you can build in Fallout 76 but you have to grind forever to unlock them. On top of grinding for scrap parts, you have to find plans to be able to build some items and in other cases you need to purchase items from the in-game shop before you can use them, that shop uses some kind of in-game currency and it takes a lot of grinding to earn it. Oh and of course you can also pay for for various kinds of premium access passes that give access to other items that you can craft. Sometimes they have free stuff in the store. I was able to get a floor and now my shack needs walls and I have to pay for those with the in-game currency, and then I'll need to get a rooftop, at this rate, it's gonna take months of grinding to get those. In Fallout 4 there's also stuff that you won't be able to build to build unless you pay for the DLCs but after that there's only the grinding for scrap parts that is left to do and all the basic items are available right away.
The Gear
Your weapons and armour break over time. They also have levels so you can't use them if your character's level is too low. In Fallout 4, they don't break and get to use them when you find them, no matter how overpowered they might be.
The Perks
The way the S.P.E.C.I.A.L. skill points are handled in this game if not like before. They implemented some kind of skill card system that allows you to switch between cards so your perks can change as needed. It is an interesting mechanic but I think it'd be more appropriate to use that for a new franchise, instead of going around and modifying the tried-and-true mechanics of a game there has a certain legacy.
The Grabbing
Remember how you could drop stuff from your inventory and then grab it and move it around to decorate your settlements in Fallout 4? Well you can't do that here.
The Online Stuff
It is nice to come across the other player's camps while roaming the wasteland and the vending machines are a nice touch. I can't talk about playing in teams with other players though, I don't really do that sort of stuff.
The Conclusion
Considering I purchased that game at a 75% discount, i'd say I'm still getting my money's worth but I prefer the one-player Fallout games.

Having played this game on multiple systems, I have seen the positives and negatives of this game. I must say, playing with people was an amazing experience at first, which I enjoyed. However I didn't appreciate how Bethesda lied about the graphics fidelity and the vibrancy of the world. It seems about as good as Fallout 4 without mods, which isn't good. I also don't appreciate the constant monetization. While I think some aspects are good - such as the new creatures, the experiences you can have with friends, and fighting the end-game Scorch beast Queen with a ton of pals, and then launching nukes. It's just repetitive. Now, I haven't played recently, however even with the new content, I would much rather they just focus their efforts on the next main Fallout title. Overall, a mediocre experience. Yet, if it's on sale. Maybe try it. 6/10

I bought this game over a year ago for a low price of 10 euros. I played it then to level 20 something with friends, and I didn't really give the game a fair chance. Now I decided to play it with my full attention, and I really really enjoy this game. I don't often leave reviews, but I'm going to now for games I really appreciate, this being one of them. Wanting a game that I find relaxing, fun, and rewarding, I think this game ticks all the boxes. I'm level 30 something writing this, and I have watched some videos on the game, but I don't want to know much, I'd rather go in blind. I've enjoyed everything about the game, and I look forward to taking part in higher level content/end game stuff. The only thing I find annoying, and greedy on the part of Bethesda is their over priced fallout 1st. I know it is not needed, but at 15 euros a month for what they offer is laughable, and I'm actually surprised people use it. The atom shop is still bad in my eyes, but less so since you can earn that currency from playing ( I know this whole pay to skip is normal these days, but I will never understand it) Those two things aside, the game itself is really enjoyable. Edit: Upon playing more it seems they have made it so it's a longer process to get atoms which is typical of bethesda, disgusting honestly. They barely even drip feed you atoms trying to push you to pay 15 euros a month which you get no value from. Their greed kinda spoils the game and makes it a negative. I will still play, like the game overall but they sour the taste with their insane levels of greed. They want you to pay to the game is more convenient, that's not how it is supposed to work. I know it works on the new gamers who play fortnite etc, but people less gullible don't fall for it.

I love this game. I always find myself coming back to it even though I hate how bethesda is handling it. It is becoming more predatory every season it goes on. Less items on the scoreboard (this game's battlepass). Scoreboard becoming more grindy every season. Higher prices on the atom shop. The gameplay loop of this game is amazing just like every other fallout and skyrim game. But I just can't recommend this game with the direction it is going in. Unless some changes are made to the scoreboard to include more items and reduce atom shop prices I will go ahead and keep my review to not recommended.

(PSA below review.) First of all, despite its flaws, they really have crafted a great universe in terms of lore and artistic direction. That being said: The game is overly complicated, which is fine expect that there are NO efforts to teach new players. The gameplay and interface feel a bit clunky -- perhaps because the engine used for this game was 9 years old at the time of launch. The keyboard controls are bizarre as hell, and it seems that not everything can be re-bound. I can't stress enough how awkward they are. Maybe it's better with a controller. The settings are missing basic features such as FPS settings, and the game doesn't have native support for certain resolutions. Both of these problems have to be fixed by editing the game's ini file, which is ridiculous for a modern game from a veteran studio. If you're needing to optimize graphics settings, be ready to restart the game repeatedly as it requires restart for a lot of changes to take effect. There are plenty of bugs (as one expects from Bethesda), but MOST have been minor. Mods, however, can straight up break the game. The monetization is out of control. Having to pay $12.99/mo for access to basic, non-cosmetic features is insane. Want more than a pittance of stash space? Pay. Want to store more ammo? Pay. Selling cosmetics is one thing, but this feels icky. ------------------------------------- PSA: If you decide to play this game, make sure to first check which Bethesda account your Steam account is linked to. Inexplicably, they use something called "quick accounts" that do not require you to create a proper account. This caused a huge issue for me because it did not link with my existing Bethesda account. The solution is to contact customer service and un-link your quick account from Steam and re-link it to your existing account. THIS WILL DELETE ALL OF YOUR FALLOUT 76 DATA. (Per Bethesda, you will lose "All Game Progress Data, this includes characters, purchases and Fallout 1st membership.")

Highly recommend becoming a Ghoul now and Goin Fishing makes the game alot more fun.

I have played this since it came out, though then I had it on console. Wow. just wow, I come back to it every now and then to see how it's come along. This is just a sad attempt at a game, game breaking bugs every time I play. This is coming from someone who generally likes bugs due to the fun and randomness they introduce. Bethesda also just can't seem to let go of this outdated engine, I'm just tired of it. Even Starfield, like c'mon.

This is much better game then when released. There is plenty to do without subscribing. It does feel different then previous games. The positive... Lots of loot! The game also gives you option to start at level 1 or 50. Although it recommends 50 I chose level 1. It has been a grind but I am earning my way through the game! The negative.... I don't like started in a different server every startup. I only have about 15 hours in it, so I am still learning. It was definitely worth the price.

Played this when it first came to console and it was HORRIBLE. They really have added a ton of content since then. I've enjoyed my 51hrs in 10 days to say the least. Wish the game was a little more optimized. 7800x3d and 9070 xt and barely hitting 60 fps on medium. Game is full of people wanting to help. 7.5/10
