This game as it is now is absolutely sh*t. But if you get at least the HIGGS, VRIK and PLANK mods is very good. Better yet get the FUS modpack and it will be one of the best vr games. To bad Bethesda did not even try.

Horrible port and is only good with mods which is the only reason i bought this but of course they just had to make it a pain in the ass to mod and most of the mods to make it a functional game don't fucking work. Fuck Bethesda.

While the base Skyrim VR is dated, using a full mod package like "Mad Gods Overhaul 3.6.2" takes this game to another realm. However, you need a beefy PC to play it fully modded like that. Strong recommend.

According to Steam, I have played Skyrim for 5,426 hours and Skyrim SE for 8,090 hours. So, I decided to try the un-modded Skyrim VR which is a port of the original vanilla Skyrim with its three DLC’s. The initial introduction asks you to choose both movement and turning methods. I chose those most like the Skyrim game I knew. Then I was given 10,000 practice arrows. The left-to-right aim seemed a little jittery, but the big problem was that the arrows dropped like stones. You had to aim very high to compensate for the drop. I attributed this to the provided long bow and hoped things would be better in game. They were not. Archery no longer plays like a sniper rifle but more like a bad-mitten shuttle cock. You could improve the skill and the bow to the old damage levels but the range was more that of a grenade than a bullet. I took 79 hours to get to level 30 on legendary difficulty. I died five times. The first was by drowning when I could not figure out the swimming method. The remaining were by ambushes from a bear, bandits, ice wolves, and ice wraiths. As the hours passed, I found the VR head set got to be heavy, wore into the skin on my forehead. and had to be very tight to reduce the visual jitters making the back of my head sore. After a short while I tried to play sitting down, but my view was reduced to that of a toddler’s. I adjusted the character height up to about 70% of the bar so that I could play at eye level with the NPCs while seated. The sword combat was more like Arena or Morrowind; waft the weapon back and forth at the monster while hoping for the best. The controls are odd. The sprint is toggle down on the left joy stick, but requires a lot of pressure, while retract weapons is the very touchy left grab button. I gave up trying to sprint to save my controller and keep my weapons out. Some screens list choices at the bottom that have you do a first thing this using the right or left trigger, a second thing using the X-button, and a third using the B-button, however, if you accidently press the A button it is treated like a trigger pull. This is not documented on the screen. In general, exiting a screen is with either grab button. The B-button for favorites saves a lot of frustration, and menu diving. While some may tut-tut that I am not being fair, consider the following damning Steam statistics. For regular Skyrim 52% of characters make it to level 5, while only 17% do so for VR. While 42% of regular characters make it to level 10, only 9% of VR characters do. In other words, VR is 3 to 4 times more challenging (or obnoxious.) Being a glutton for punishment, I will try the teleport movement method and snap turning option to level 40 using no mods.

its got a lot of default annoying vr game settings like snap turning and that tunnel vision shit when you move. and it doesnt let you play while sitting too, major bummer there. you may as well not buy this and youll be happier with your money instead of this game.

Start game, screw with graphics settings because it looks like crap and the FOV Filters while moving make you squint like a blind man. Play around with the bow and arrow a bit. Start New Game: Cart and horse immediately janky and bouncy. One particular bounce causes left front cart wheel to gently glance off tree trunk. Immediately cartwheeled into orbit. Game Crash. Restart. Janky-ride with more success. Horse gets stuck on fort wall beside gates. Quit. Just like old times.

I should've looked at some of the reviews for Skyrim VR before I purchased it because it was a major disappointment for $59.99. In-case anyone that is looking at my review as a guide on if they should purchase this and many of the other reviews say this as well, it's really only worth playing if you mod it. Even though this was released in 2018 it is quite pathetic in the VR technology it presents, only containing hands and no real immersion for picking things up or maybe knocking over something. In conclusion: If you are not planning on modding this game because you are lazy like me or lack the skill (look up a tutorial) to do so don't buy it. If you are willing to mod it or watch 4 different tutorials feel free to purchase at your on will. Not Bethesda's best work. 2/10

Pain in the ass to mod, so it works properly. But there's a guide by DeadPixelGaming (on YouTube) that makes it pretty easy using Vortex / Nexus. After that, it's a lot of fun to play. Try adding SkyAI for the NPCs. You won't regret it. Edit: Apparently now it doesn't want to run on Steam VR, Meta Quest Link, or on Virtual Desktop so I effectively cannot play Skyrim VR again. I take it all back. This game and the Steam platform are absolute shit lately.

A fun and refreshing alternative to those who enjoyed the original. The graphics up close show their age, but the vast array of mods out there sort that out - if you have the time and patience to understand and correctly apply the mods you want. I bought this when it finally went on sale (£10 or so), though I wouldn't have bought it full price.

After nearly committing suicide due to 20+ hours of trying to install mods, I would absolutely recommend this game. All hail Godd Howard. Please rerelease this game for the 100th time and make all mods I've downloaded obsolete

It is a good game, as long as you get a few vital mods that make you more than a pair of floating hands. Beating mudcrabs to death with a lute never stops being fun.

"unplayable without mods" is a bit harsh. I'm playing with very minimal mods that were easy to install and highly enjoying the experience. I like it because it is an experience within the Skyrim / Elder Scrolls universe, its such a cool way to jump into that world. The mods I'm using only add 3D sound and two other small mods. If you dont normally play Skyrim with a ton of mods and like it Vanilla / pretty close to vanilla, I recommend the VR version highly. If you normally only can play with a ton of mods, then why complain about having to highly mod a game??

the game is too easy but if you take it to the hardest enemies have tons of hp so eeh.. still not as hard as a soulslike but at least it has a difficulty slider that makes enemies harder the game is soo good but if you dont have mods dont play it

Playing some of the VR modlists such as tempus maleditum vr have opened up an entirely new Skyrim experience. My jaw has dropped open multiple times at the visuals the modding community has managed to compile together over the years. Be warned, Tempus itself has high requirements but many other wabbajack modlists offer a fantastic VR experience well.

Bethesta isnt stupid Bethesda aint lazy Bethesda just doesnt have to care- and so they dont. (And theyre greedy as fuck). Reselling the 15 Year old Game as "VR" with terrible optimization sloppy implemented controls, basically no adaptions to vr, no new content and the same 15 year old bugs, thats a big middle finger to the players and the customers. Its borderline Scam. They know people will buy their crappy designed games, so they cannibalize their own products to the point where it gets almost laughable. DO NOT BUY THIS

I FINALLY got it working! X_X Steam, I'm good... Turns out I forgot I needed Steam VR installed. Skyrim VR. Hm. Well, to be honest it IS clunky. But it's good. "Clunky" in the sense it is like playing early VR before VR sets were about the price of consoles now. Even though I haven't played in the beginning, comparing this game to say... RE4VR (original, not REmake4 VR)? RE4VR is cleaner, smoother, etc. And that I bought on my Quest, so I can run it without my laptop. That said... Skyrim running just on a VR set? Specifically a price concerned consumer model? Eh, that probably would not work. I was running it on my Cyborg 15 A13V and I could hear the fans kicking in on the laptop. Still. Also, Steam? Please don't brick any functionality for people trying to mod Skyrim VR. Some people make good quality of life mods, some probably make performance friendly stuff... Some make pervy mods, while others make absolutely goofy stuff or full storyline mods. Don't ruin it for Skyrim VR players, alright? Anyway, toodles people. And yeah, Skyrim VR is alright. Just don't play for too long on non-gaming dedicated PC built for good performance. My laptop may be a gaming laptop, but it still runs more in the budget friendly territory. PS: Yes, when I was first trying to get it to run I was an idiot and didn't have Steam VR installed and was freaking out. x.x Sorry Valve/Steam staff people. But I got it working now.

This game is SO BUGGY with broken missions. To ever finish Skyrim you will eventually have to use console hacks to work around game breaking bugs. Morrowind worked, Oblivion worked, Starfield works, but Skyrim is a fundamentally broken game. Only pay for it if its on 90% price reduced special.

takes a little more to get running but better than any other fantasy themed vr game out today, without forcing an annoying survival aspect and has a massive mod community.
