The one that started it all, and it is still very fun to play. Recommended for those who like older RPG games with good story lines.

I like it. Lots of people like it. The people who have sank hundreds of hours into this game are of a different breed, truly. For the price, it's a convenient and legal way to play this game. If you like the lore and want to experience the story and how different Fallout truly was, it's worth a play. That said, coming from modern fallout, there are a lot of growing pains. It doesn't hold your hand, and a lot of systems run in the background, so unless you already know about them, things can get a little painful. That said, researching a game and its systems deeply just so you can beat it with a guide isn't everyone's cup of tea. Some modern fallout fans would be better off watching a video essay on lore than putting up with the game. Very fun if you can stick with it. 7.8/10 too much mutants

As much as I loved this game back in the day, it just doesn't play properly nowadays. Just about every time I unequip an item from a hand slot it gets deleted from my inventory.

It took me 4 separate attempts, but it clicked, and I finally played and beat this awesome game.

fun, but kinda hard without the right strategy. I would recomend using the skills small guns, speech and lockpicking in the begining. try to have high agility and luck and dont forget to save often.

I played Fallout when it came out in 1997; it was one of my very first PC games and it definitely left an indelible mark. I was about 10, way too young to play this kind of games, and I'm not sure I understood much of what was going on. But I remember I was obsessed with it and somehow I went all the way to the final boss (which I couldn't beat)! Years later, it became the reason I got on Steam, so I could play it again! And now I've been a huge fan of the whole series. If you liked some of the other Fallout games but never played the original one, I say go for it, it's a masterpiece!!

Probably the best 90s game ever, rivaling doom 1 and 2. at first is is hard to know what you are doing so i sugest using the fallout wiki if you are confused or need help.

It's really fun, sure it may be overwhelming at first, but you'll get used to it. Once you do, you will have a lotta fun. :D

My favorite of the pre-Bethesda era of Fallout games. The gameplay is decent, took a while for me to get used to it, but it's fun once you get the hang of it. The music in game is great, one of the reasons I enjoy going back to it. Just great vibes all around! Highly recommend 👌

Playing this in 2025, and it surprisingly good, for a 30 year old game. The controls are BAD, and take some getting used to, HOWEVER. The world is big, the immersion is good, the builds are deep-ish, the role-play is very good, and the branching choices are everywhere.

One of the best RPGs ever made. The beginning of a legendary series. The orginal Fallout is truly a S.P.E.C.I.A.L. game, you know. Yes, this game is old and it shows, but it still has a really powerful indentity and artstyle. The atmosphere in this game is the best in all of series. And the main plot is also great. 9/10 An all-time classic

If you like the Fallout franchise, this is a great way to see where it came from. Lots of lore and minor details that mean way more now that I have completed this game.

Very hard, very time sensitive, very gory... I love it, especially how unique it is compared to the games after this one. Highly recommend people to play this if they're looking for a real challenge or to mess around

A great game despite being really really old. My first CRPG and first turn-based game. Not my type of games at first. It was tough at the start, not much is explained, and you're on your own to figure out where to go next. The ambiance is amazing, it really felt like a desolated wasteland, where everything wants you dead (from animals to angry people), mutants and deathclaws were scary and really strong. Music was nice. Graphics were trash but I got along. Character growth was good, at the end I felt like a badass with my Power Armor and Plasma rifle, blazing through flesh. Not an essential one to play but still interesting to see how games were a long time ago.

One of the most tightly written RPGs ever. No it doesn't have the scale of later games but it doesn't need it. Fallout benefits from its smaller scale to deliver the best tone and one of - if not the - best plots in the series.

The Intro of this game alone was worth the 2$ I paid. And to be honest brought me more happiness than the whole of Starfield. Also can you believe this game lead to the atrocity called Fallout 76? "Let's be friend with raiders so we can work togheter to defeat the evil dragon queen" How far have we fallen... Let's spend 200 millions on textures, remove all dark themes, remove all mature themes, add plenty of "feel good posters" and auto generate the worse procedural worlds, the story of Starfield. Can you imagine how good Fallout 1 could have been with a 200 millions $ budget.

I played it for the first time and somehow managed to get 2 endings that weren't even meant to be the result of what I did to get them. The game made in 1453 shouldn't have bugs, unplayable.

After putting off the game for years, I finally decided to give it a chance now that I've finished all the modern Fallout games and watched the Amazon series. A surprise to me was the huge mistake I'd been making. It's a marvel: the music, the sound, the voices, the visuals, the floating heads, the story... All the personality, all the charisma, all the absolute charm, is here. And it's much stronger, in my opinion. The designs aren't as noticeable because of the graphics, but they're magnificent, and the violence is sublime. Even with the limited visuals, the power of the executions and the gore are at levels not even modern Fallout games can reach. The music, the sound, the floating heads, the voices—a quality and charisma that gave me an immersion I couldn't describe. And by all the saints, what a fucking wonderful story and setting, the Master, the Mutants, the cohesion of the world, West Tek, Unity, the Brotherhood of Steel, and much more. I was absolutely enamored with all the lore and the various key moments in the story. My favorite character is definitely the Overseer more than the Master, the Lieutenant, or anyone else. If I had to complain about something, the truth is that the combat, while certainly charming, is ridiculously slow at times, but it wasn't anything too serious, and I genuinely had fun with it most of the time. The only thing I can say is, play Fallout 1. The age shows, but I promise you it's nothing compared to the magic this game possesses. It's a masterpiece, and I truly can't believe how I spent so long straying from such a sublime product.

Bethesda has done irreparable damage to the RPG genre passing off games like Oblivion and Fallout 3 as RPGs, when they were cash ins and appeals to a broader audience. Fallout 3 is a shallow RPG experience with horrendous combat, it ruined the fallout universe by turning every game into some tepid looter shooter, with the only vestiges of the originals being confined to the stat menus that have little actual bearing on gameplay other than having enough points in a skill to do the action. What's the point in making the jump to 3D when you still limit the player character's actions behind skills as if it were an isometric game which used the skills less as a check but more as an analogue for role-playing? No, you can't knock down a flimsy blown out door, no, you can't smash a computer to open an abandoned old world vault. This neutered creativity is one of many reasons for why we get quick and easy skyrim clones instead of actual, fun, games that challenge the player intellectually. Although the blunder began with Bethesda the player base eats these games up. Now underfunded indie companies have to move heaven and earth to make a game with the same passion as the original fallout developers, while Bethesda sits on its scrooge mcduck gold pile pumping out slop for its investors. Just play Fallout 1 and 2. These two offer a glimpse into what we could have gotten if Bethesda didn't kill fallout and cater it to a broader audience.

You can pass Fallout and go straight to Fallout 2. As with most crpgs, Fallout craters after level 8, or about 10 hours. You can uninstall.exe, right after the Overseer hears your report and sends you back out. You will NOT fail this game in character generation; anybody saying you need to build this, that, or the third sorts of characters are low INT in real life. Once you get to level 5, caps will fall from the sky, and you will find many skill books, just by going with the flow. I think there are much worse games to play, and I do like that F1 is good fun for a day, every ten or fifteen years, but just go play F2 instead.

I hadn't heard of the fallout series until 2008 when Fallout 3 came out. I fell in love with the IP and played a ton of 3 and NV. Coming back to the original titles, I have to say I really enjoy the feel of the games way more. The atmosphere feels darker and more desperate than other fallout titles. The soundtrack is incredibly immersive as well. You feel less like a walking avatar of destruction and more like a regular guy trying to pull off a miracle which fits way better in a post-nuclear setting. The character dialogue is better; there's a lot of fun options to choose from as responses, and you can kinda be a huge asshole if you really want to. Super Mutants feel like a coordinated, existential threat instead of just a bunch of random failed experiments wandering in the DC ruins. Ghouls look way less pretty and much more, well, ghoulish and disheveled. If you're a fan of the Fallout series and haven't played the original, do yourself a favor and put this on your to-do list.
