After S-Ranking every mission on standard mode (including Chapter 5) and 2092R, I can say that I've NEVER had a game that made think so resourcefully about EVERYTHING whilst being an absolute joy to play. As someone who gets bored with repetitive games (which is ironic for this game's story) and loves the fucking absolute heartbreaking stories MICA team puts out, I was entertained the entire way through. Unlike their other games in the GFL universe, they don't have to hide their amazing storytelling behind Goonerbait, and it's clear that this game paid the toll of popularity for quality. GAMEPLAY: When browsing reviews for this game before buying it, I came across a negative one that said something along the lines of "The Devs love dumping niche items that you'll never use again", which was followed by a complaint on how hard the game is. After playing Reverse Collapse fully to make a proper review, I kind of encountered that issue, but I realized it was a problem with ME, not the game. To put it simply, Reverse Collapse WILL. KICK. YOUR. ASS if you do not carefully think about the equipment at your disposal. I've had moments where I felt "There is no way I can beat this, did I soft lock myself?", but after considering another approach and utilizing a variety of tools, I absolutely crushed the impossible, and it is an amazing feeling to break through when the odds are stacked against you. Almost every single item has a role to play, no matter how seemingly niche it is. Be careful about what you bring into missions, as you won't always be spoon fed information about what will happen. Something I do dislike, are the very few short Puzzle missions where you have to do things exactly the way the developers intended to get an S-Rank, but this wasn't a major problem at all given that a large majority of the missions give you the freedom to choose whatever approach you like, and guides will easily help you if you get stuck. Stealth missions are also not that big of a problem as some negative reviews make it out to be, as those reviews were before stealth patches rolled out, which now allow you to go loud in exchange for a challenging fight. Finally, this is not a tactical puzzle game about two massive armies battling it out, This is a tactical puzzle game about a small team trying to escape an entire army, you are the underdog and at a disadvantage for practically the entire game. Think it through and adapt to reinforcements, and you'll be rewarded. There is not one way to accomplish things. STORY: I don't want to spoil anything if you are interested, but something Mica team has excelled in is that there is almost always an explanation for everything, there is rarely, if ever any: "It happens just because, or things are like this because the plot says so". There is a reason for almost everything, and actions made by characters make sense Psychologically. While the story may info dump on you at time, it's also up to you to critically think about what's been happening, as some things are not told directly. Jefuty for example, comes off as cold and almost indifferent to life, with seemingly exceptional combat skills for whatever reason, but her actions make sense once
it's revealed that a Jefuty inherits the memories of every individual Jefuty that has died in other timelines. Stacking probably an infinite amount of times with each death. The reason she is as proficient and numbed as is, is precisely because of how many times she has failed. Despite this, she remains a morally good person, even if she tries to hide it.
You can delve even deeper into this and watch the characters grow, as the whole game is literally about learning from your mistakes and improving upon it. IN SHORT: - Expect a long and difficult campaign even on the Standard mode. It took me around 140 hours to beat the WHOLE game, not counting 2092R. - Excellent VAs, Writing, Art, Music (Sad Piano music makes me cry dammit) and Disturbing scenes (The Scenes are not excessively brutal or gory, just shocking). - Be on the move and ADAPT. - If you are a Polish patriot you will feel at home with Beria and Kirill. This game will drain your balls and whack you upside the forehead if you try to rush through it without a plan and resource management. If you're not interested in either the story or the difficult game play after playing for a little bit, refund it, it's not for everyone. Otherwise, this game will award you if you are truly interested.

A masterclass of ramping tension that never stops holding your feet to the fire. It throws curveball after curveball at you, forcing you to adapt on the fly. You're always outnumbered and always outgunned; trying to fight the enemy head-on is a death sentence. Each new obstacle looks more impossible than the last, but you've got all the tools you need to overcome them. This game is brilliant.

at every step of the way, i thought to myself, "this game is amazing, it's unbelievable, it physically cannot get better than this." & every time, it did. for well over 100 hours. i've never had a game make me start to tear up by reading a mission objective. certainly can be frustrating at points, reseting turns or missions because of mistakes, but that's the thing. they're mistakes. throughout my entire time playing, i was never screwed over by rng. it was always because i made an error, as it should be. i adore this game. someone get yuzhong another ferrari immediately

Instead of whaling for a flavour of the month waifu in a gacha game, consider buying this instead. You don't even need to play Girls' Frontline to enjoy this, even. The story and setting is more or less self contained to this game.

The origin story of how everything happened is much more interesting than I thought, the story is clear, great visuals, the background of the characters and their roles are well developed in my opinion. The game focuses a lot on the story line and characters. Had the same upgrade mechanics and crafting as like any gacha games you can find yet you wouldn't need to grind for resources in order to level their skills and stuff. Everything is based of how the story progresses and what they obtain after the battle or mission. From how I view the game, the story line have a bit of similarity with arknights. You're there to protect a certain person for the sake of keeping security safety, if it had landed on the wrong hands, there will consequences. (This my first review post on a game so please be cooperative, as of writing this, I've only reached chapter 2 act 5. feel free to comment of your thoughts for my review)

First off, I want to say this game does have some strong points: The soundtrack is great, the story (at least the part I’ve experienced so far) is intriguing, and the gameplay mechanics are solid. But unfortunately, the mission design really lets it down. The stealth missions are especially frustrating you’re forced to follow a very specific route, with no freedom to approach things your own way. It feels rigid and restrictive. The combat missions aren’t much better. The game just throws wave after wave of enemies at you, which isn’t tactical it’s just tedious and time-consuming. At this point, I’m not even sure if I’ll finish the game.

Amazing game, great story, likeable characters, nice OSTs. Even better for people familiar with the lore of the Girl's Frontline universe (even though the game is doing a great job at explaining important notions and lore elements to the player) Game can be hard even on standard. If you just want to enjoy the story, just play on casual or casual^2

Great tactics game. Really feels like you control a group of elites on the run, scraping by, and making a bunch of gadgets/consumables to survive vs. large groups of enemies. Not really a fan of the stealth missions. I liked a few of them but generally, wasn't a fan of them. Pending on which route(s) you take later in the game, you may encounter more or less of them.

I'll start off with saying that this game is good. Damn good. From sound design to level design and character writing, it's all top notch. But, I played through this entire game up until the very final twist. Without spoilers, I will say that MICA, the devs, are known for their emotional gut punches. This is more in line with eating a 12 gauge to the solar plexus. It is so horrific that it soured my opinion on the entire game, and the fact that I spent 56 hours getting to that point. Looking at other review times, some played for as many as 80-100 hours without even reaching this point in the story. Something commented on many times in the discourse surrounding this game is the difficulty. I played on normal mode, and it offers a very satisfying challenge to overcome. Challenge mode is unrelentingly difficult. A true masochists' difficulty. Such an investment of time and effort only to be soundly smacked in the face right at the final 10% of game. I am aware that a happy ending is not owed to the player, indeed, that bad things happen to those undeserving, but the characters go through so much struggle, and the protagonists are denied what I feel is their just due. The game plays this off the only option. It feels extremely forced to me. If you are like me and can't stomach these endings where everything goes wrong 'just because', I can't in good confidence recommend this game. Honestly, getting the 'good' ending at chapter 4, and ignoring the existence of chapter 5, and the 4 hour cutscene it opens with is preferable.

This is less of a TRPG and more of a puzzle game because of how narrowly designed the missions are. Chapter 1 was well made, with a good mix of stealth, combat, and VN sequences for storytelling. Unfortunately the stealth sequences became really frustrating in Chapter 2 and killed my interest in the game. One mission involved crawling through a minefield with minimal vision & detection tools, and another involved studying overlapping enemy patrols while hiding from spotlights and snipers. There's too many tools and skills provided to demand such a strict playstyle for each mission... The game seems intended to be savescummed or played with a guide. The main complaint from the non-protest negative reviews for this game are the stealth missions but no one explains why they're bad. The problem with them is how vision and detection is work in this game: each character, including allies, enemies, and electronic tools (like turrets or radar), have a radius where they can detect anything in stealth (yellow) and another radius where they can detect normal enemies but not stealth (green). There's another layer on top of this for dense terrain or buildings, meaning you might be stealthed inside the yellow range but can't be detected because you're inside of a building. The issue is this works both for allies and enemies... I had to follow a YouTube guide step-by-step to complete Mission 2-6 because your units can only see one square around them while in dense forests, meanwhile four enemies were patrolling nearby (and moving every turn). If that character deployed any tools and that tool was detected, they'd run over and detect her too, effectively ending the mission. To help dealing with the hordes of enemies coming at you, there's RPG elements including character skill trees, weapon and tool upgrades, and tool crafting, but they all seem to scale with the difficulty of the game. Upgrading your grenades just keeps their damage on-par with enemy health increases, and enemies rapidly increase in all stats as the game progresses. Most missions you're outnumbered and outgunned so your RPG upgrades are only satisfying when replaying old missions or grinding simulations. Skill upgrades are heavily gated by levels so there's only an illusion of customization choices for the few units you get to control. Normally I don't write a review before finishing a game but I'm dropping this on Hell's Paradise, Mission 2-7, which involves your separated crew of three fighting against about 50 enemies, followed immediately by a boss fight with an invincibility mechanic and one-shot skills. You're usually outgunned and outnumbered, and the VN story sequences involve as much suffering as the gameplay. Judging by reviews and howlongtobeat, this game is anywhere from 60-100 hours long for the good ending, and I can't see myself playing this anymore for even the bad ending. Not recommended because it's extremely frustrating and has too much trial and error compared to other games in the genre.

Ok, so I managed to finish this game. True ending is unlocked after beating chapter 5 and you have to unlock all classified documents to even be able to play the final chapter. The good: -Decent story that unfortunately falls flat to its face by the end. Honestly the ending is so lukewarm and uneventful that I wondered if I missed anything. (I didn't) -Nice 2D animations with attention to detail. -Nice voice acting. I was pleasantly surprised by the quantity and quality of the voice lines in this game. The bad: -The difficulty. The game throws the kitchen and the sink at you in every single level in order to make it feel difficult. It isn't, it just makes the game drag on longer than it should and it's irritating at best and often infuriating. Pass a turn and of course 2 new waves of enemies show up. No lol Im joking its 4 waves, and then 2 more with a few tanks for good measure. It makes levels take over an hour to finish and throws any strategy you have out of the window. The worst offender are the stealth missions. They are just glorified puzzles. You cannot deviate from the plan laid down by the designer. You might as well follow the precise steps from a guide. The final mission is the worst, multiple phases, hundreds of enemies and a stealth mission in between. But you probably won't reach this stage considering only 11% of players bothered to finish this game. -The rewards: You get levels and loot when you finish a mission. It does make you stronger but unfortunately enemies also get stronger. And I don't mean new enemies that of course need to pose a challenge. I mean that a grunt from the first mission which has 28HP will have hundreds of HP by the end of the game. You don't feel like you are getting stronger, you are only trying to keep up. There are repeatable missions that grand EXP but they give so little exp and take so long to finish that it's simply not worth it. I cannot recommend this game. The story is Ok but you might as well watch the cutscenes on youtube and save your sanity.
Follow Far2close - Visual Novel Playthroughs Curator Page
Reverse Collapse: Code Name Bakery Developer: Sunborn Network Technology (MICA Team) Publisher: XD
Intro:
Mendo, a soldier of the Antarctic Union, is tasked to find and recover Codename: Bakery with support from AU's Tactical Air Shock Army (TASA). Upon getting ambushed by Union of Rossartrist Nations Coalition (URNC) forces, a mysterious girl saves Mendo. She doesn't fit in at all. Her clothes are old and tattered, she has no pants or shoes in the harsh freezing temperatures, and she's an excellent shot; she is certainly Bakery. Her name is Jefuty, and Mendo has to take her back to the AU, but Jefuty has one condition: save her sister, Lige. On their journey to save Lige, they learn more about the connection between them, and the horrors hiding within the GAVIRUL project.
Pros:
1. The story is absolutely astounding. Understandably, I do have my bias towards Girls' Frontline, but I will point out flaws if I must. The story uses romance, military action, and politics to its highest potential. The beginning of the game and a good chunk of later chapters, Mendo is your primary protagonist. You execute missions through his point of view and take things at a surface level with Jefuty, along with encountering Shrike Cells/Shrikes. Mendo tries to help Jefuty rescue Lige and claim a Neural Inhibitor that will greatly help, but they're constantly pursued by overwhelming amounts of URNC forces and a fearsome foe named Sugar. If you do not want spoilers, I will just say this is an excellent story that goes much deeper than you think, and you will love the characters, the world-building, and twists. Definitely a shining gem among MICA Team's releases.
The story is linear until the beginning of chapter 4, chapter 3 ends with TASA being wiped out, Mendo and party engage hand-to-hand combat with Sugar. After Jefuty incapacitates Sugar, she checks on Mendo who has died and Lige who is unable to stabilize from calls from the Shrike Progenitor (Sugar). After realizing that there is no choice, Jefuty kills herself which transfers important memories to another Jefuty in another time. Simply a Reverse Collapse via Nirvana. This is where Chapter 4 comes in with the first level being Divergence Point; this is where you can choose your outcome in order to change your timeline, a chance to fix mistakes. You have lots of decisions to make per mission, and not all of them will lead to a good outcome. You will lose, but those losses will build you up. In the linear timeline, Jefuty couldn't get the Neural Inhibitor for Lige, with the new timeline, Jefuty has the information to do so, but it will require trial and effort. Through and through, at the end of chapter 4, Jefuty and Lige have been secured and extracted. DID YOU WIN THOUGH? No, that's where the documents come in. You must collect all documents in order to reach Chapter 5. Once you do so, you will understand Jefuty much more and what GAVIRUL is. You will get to know who Lusica is, and all these other timelines and outcomes. Jefuty may run as she likes, but she can't outrun her fate. She can enjoy her happy days with Mendo, but it will always end. Understanding this, Jefuty MUST face it, she MUST end it. Chapter 5 begins with taking control of URNC's Colonel Beria and Kirill to rebel against the usage of Shrike cells as vengeance for the Warszawa Incident. After Beria's Rebels fall, we return to the main party and defend against Sugar and Oleg. The final fight in Mineral Water City's airstrip is where Sugar's final form comes to play.
There is definitely a lot more, but the story can look extremely complex, but it is written wonderfully. It utilizes its rich lore to its best to tell an excellent story of love, suffering, and sacrifice. 2. The characters are all written beautifully. The relationship between Jefuty and Mendo that spans from childhood is adorable. Mendo being an unyielding optimist brings up everyones spirits and is an excellent counter to Jefuty's bluntness. Jefuty starting out emotionally detached due to her memories and objectives to do the right thing, but gradually becomes more emotive as time goes on
(and with multiple failures).
The camaraderie of TASA and Mendo is like looking at a family and the eventual trusting of Jefuty and Lige is great to see. The antagonists are also written with care. Beria being persistent with his personal vendettas
against the Shrikes
is a strong motivator, the same goes for Kirill. Both are not on your side, but they are both honorable soldiers. As for other URNC units, Oleg is ruthless, powerful, and his presence beckons respect. His team of Werewolves is a force to be reckoned with and you will repeatedly encounter them, they will not stop hunting. Sugar is also part of the URNC Werewolves, she is unhinged and treats humans like nothing. She doesn't care how many die, as long as she gets Jefuty. 3. The visual novel portions art is wonderful with the characters having extremely detailed designs along with alternate outfits and a plethora of CG art that enhances the experience greatly. The sprite art possesses basic animation and lip syncing with voice lines. The in-game sprites are extremely detailed with buttery smooth animations. As for more general art, the Shrikes are disgusting. They're meaty, gory, and are (literally) man-made horrors beyond comprehension. It's disgustingly beautiful. Environments are great with the snowy Caucasus mountains, to technological military bases, to abandoned towns, and
Shrike Cell corrupted landscapes.
4. The gameplay is a solid tactical RPG. I enjoy the gunplay with the various weapons specific to each character with specific uses, along with the multiple attachments, but I will explain some bits about that later. Each character has their selection of skills that are all fun to use with a pleasant upgrade system and the ability to switch out to properly fit the operation. I appreciate the multiple items you can purchase or synthesize, some are also only available through killing specific enemies or finding it. The balancing feels good as some items can change the battle greatly, but are expensive. 5. Music and anything MICA Team releases are synonymous. The music by G.K. (Luminium Studio) is excellent and fits well with the game's dire atmosphere but also the somber moments. Some have second variants to fit in with transitions to boss fights or second phase preparations. My personal favorites are Schizophrenia, Dismal, Examination, and the Outbreak Phases. 6. The voice acting is excellent and is almost fully voiced. 7. Small thing, but you don't need to play Girls' Frontline to play Reverse Collapse: Code Name Bakery. It has its built in glossary to help with lore and some recognizable characters, but overall you don't experience. If you are a fan, then seeing things would definitely make you happy. It also shares the antagonist from the Girls' Frontline franchise, but is not exactly the one you're fighting directly in this story.
Cons:
1. Stealth portions do get tedious and you have extremely limited actions. It becomes a little better with Mendo's stealth skill where he can guarantee kill an enemy depending on their HP. You do have items to utilize such as soporific darts, drones to scout, scanners, or distractions, but it does get a bit tiring. That's also where I'd like to talk about weapon attachments. Suppressors only buff your weapon, but doesn't stop from enemies being alerted.
Conclusion:
Great story, characters, and art. A gem among Sunborn's releases. Score 9/10 OUTSTANDING
