This is a very good game, full-stop. I'll write more, but honestly, especially for the price, this is worth it. i can think of so many positives, and almost no negatives. Let's get the very few negatives out of the way first:
-It's very easy, until it's sort of hard all of a sudden (not in a frustrating way just a bit of a jump)
-It's easy to get lost sometimes or wonder what to do next for a little while (just long enough to begin to feel annoying but never a real problem)
-No maps in caves/dungeons (so far at least)
Now for the positives:
-Everything
Jokes aside, as weird as this feels to say about a metroidvania, this has everything you like about Zelda in it. Secret areas, pots to break, items that give you new and interesting powers, cool dungeons, an interesting and pretty overworld, chill/good music, extra side activities like racing, weird little shops, etc.
What I like most about it though is the levelling system. It has many great features, including (if need be), unlimited grinding since basic enemies respawn when you die (I haven't needed to grind but it's there if you want). Most importantly though, there's infinite re-spec built in, which is awesome. In most games, as upgrades become more expensive, you end up waiting to buy them, like "well I levelled up, so I have one upgrade point, but the next damage boost costs 3 points so I guess I get nothing this level". Not here! Since you can infinitely level things up and down, you end up in scenarios like this: "Well, I levelled up, so I have a point to spend. I want to put three points into a damage boost, but for now I'll put one point into a speed boost, next level I'll put one point into a crit chance, then next level I'll downgrade speed and crit to have three points total and get the damage boost". It basically means that you're always using your points somehow, even if you're using them for things that are less important to you, and then rebalancing in the direction of what you really want all the time, never feeling like a point is wasted. You can also just change your play-style whenever (need more range? Just take points from elsewhere and boost that). Really cool and I find myself tinkering with my build often, in a good way.
Like I said, I have so many positives to say. So many different enemies with different bullet and movement patterns, cool hub area with different stores, lots of secrets (what are the golden bugs for? What will I get when I rescue all the spirits? How do I move the trees? I'm genuinely interested to find out). The map, as mentioned, can be a bit sprawling but generally I always find some new place I haven't been to yet and it turns out that's the way to progress the game, but also it looks great, and usually feels good to explore with lots of shortcuts to unlock.
There's so many good things to say I feel like this review is too long so I'll just share a tiny bonus: I got a battery upgrade, basically letting me dash further, and I was wondering where I could see how far I dash, like is the meter longer, etc, but didn't see it on my HUD... then I realized: the glowing blue on my ship's wings WAS the meter, and it drains as I dash, then refills. What a great touch. Awesome game, buy it!
