Check my hours, I've played this game inside out. I've had some beautiful moments playing the game, intense firefights, base raids that took half a day, worked out how to break into impossible bases, spent NYE chilling in the city with the lads shooting fireworks. Good times. This is why it pains me after so much investment, to say this game is done. It had massive potential but each and every step along the way they've taken the wrong step, hyper fixating on things no one cares about, removing elements people loved, making their game a joke with the toilet humour of ten year olds. The result it that the only people playing this now are try hard wannabe Navy Seals (We're talking Tarkov/ARMA level) and the worst class of gamer bro. It's a shame. The new trailer just absolutely underlined the ridiculous tone they are going for and who they want to play their game. I doubt I'll ever check back, but maybe they'll go back to making a proper game. If you do give it a try, and you're ever in C3, visit the statue and pour one out for Big Vern RIP. [Edit. Well that's a few comments lol. It's a shame so many of them illustrate the kind of gamer I'm talking about. On the other hand some of it is fair. I 100% got my money worth. Me and the lads were rinsing it hard before they even had vehicles spending entire sessions just trying to get to the place we'd investigate tomorrow, ah man I could write books on those fantastic moments and scrolling them one of the things I noted was a lot of players with huge hours giving agreement. Some of the comments talking about different developers which dodgy practices. I wanna be clear, this ain't that. I doubt they will abandon the game and have so far been pretty consistent with updates and that, but for a long time now have just been pushing their game further towards something I've no interest in. I don't regret spending my money and being there for the ride, but I just can't recommend the game as it is. wish I could but right now, I doubt any new player for "release" is going to get anywhere near those hours and that it really a shame. Mind you, I think the reaction from folks has hit home, I think/hope that's been a bit of a wake up call, probably a few meetings and a collective head wobble. I appreciate the Dev comment, it takes a lot to take it on the chin and admit you've messed up, but it's more than the marketing, you changed the vision you had and incrementally moved further and further away. I hope if I do dip my head back in sometime to see how things are going I can wipe this and write something better. I really hope so. Fix the puppet behaviour, stop adding gimmicks, expand/improve the map, add mod support bring back the sledge x]

DO NOT BUY. As someone who has over 2k hours off multiple accounts, this game is going backwards and has been since .7 1.0 The map rework replaced buildings in the POIs with empty dilapidated shells because the game engine is stressed to it's max. They did this around .8 or .9 due to all the new "modular" vehicle parts being introduced. Most foliage still de-renders around 50m-75m and I'm sure turning down the graphics will continue to provide an edge for PvP encounters. Pay for an advantage DLC (just like the Trejo DLC) is another not surprising predatory tactic for this company. They took away the tattoos and other DLC content they added previously that was paid for and expect them to continue to subtract content as this game moves forward. New Players You will never know how great this game used to be and all the content that has been taken from you. You will only regret buying this after they continue to run the game into the ground for the sake of Jagex profits.

People have such interesting expectations of what developers should do. I get it, people with 1000 hours in the game want something very specific to keep them engaged, and have their personal opinions. First off, the toilet humor isn't even a big part of the game. It is mostly evident in the trailer... yeah the game is raunchy and hilarious at times, but at heart it is a hardcore survival game. And you have options of how casual/intense you want to play based on server choice. Take the time to learn the game and get a grasp on how to survive. Solo or with a group, find the right server for you. I've been having fun in SCUMDumpster. Has a great mix of PVE and PVP. Nice people in the server as well. Okay, this is one of the best games I have ever played... I hope you all give it a try and can get past some of these picky reviews. I understand that we all have views of how a game should progress in development. And no development team usually has all the resources to do it all, or the possibility of making everyone happy with changes made. And game creativity is often hampered by the underlying need for financial success. It seems like this update is catered towards making the PvE more engaging and nuanced. The NPC's are not a walk in the park lol. Folks, let's be grateful for all these amazing games we get to explore. And let's be grateful for how much leisure time we have in our lives. If you have enough leisure time to put 200+ hours into video games, then I'd say life is pretty good. Step back and have a more open perspective on our gaming in 2025, these video games we are playing are wild... use your imagination and subtract 20 years. That's not a long time, and dang, look at these games we are playing. SCUM is one of the good ones, and I hope they continue to develop the game and keep things interesting. Give it a try, I fell in love with this game and I'm not even a big survival game player. Okay, take care everyone and I hope you all have a good day. I'm sure I'll get some hate for this post. But what would the internet be without anonymous donkeys lol. Cheers.

This game tries to simulate everything, hunger, thirst, metabolism, vitamins, bladder, teeth hygiene (okay not that one… yet). It doesn’t just ask if you’re hungry, it wants to know what you ate, how many calories it had, whether you chewed it properly, and when you plan to excrete it. It’s not for everyone, but if you like deep survival mechanics, base building, and open-ended gameplay with a touch of realism and a dash of absurdity, SCUM is a wild ride worth taking. Also, don’t forget to poop regularly.

This will be my very and probably the only first long review on STEAM as I’m a straight forward kind of a man and I’m not wasting time with things I cannot impose change over, let alone managing or offering a clear direction of HOW this game was supposed to be taking in consideration multiple and GENERAL player base perspectives as seen on forums, social media platforms,Q&A sessions and of course reviews on STEAM. My review,of course, may be under the impudence of subjectivity but a good chunk of what I will write in the next wall of text is based on reading and taking in consideration multiple and GENERAL player base perspectives as seen on forums, social media platforms,Q&A sessions(made by you guys) and of course reviews on STEAM. The general sentiment is clearly OFF. And I will break it down WHY. Because WHY is not the only perceptible question but it is the most significant one. Let me sum up some basic information about me in this context and whomever is going to read this will understand the entire timeline of YEARS I’ve gave this project a shot. And for YEARS I’ve gathered and persuaded a good chunk of friends into letting them and US together flow a good portion of our free time into this project. So I’m addressing and POINTING at the elephant in the room. Gamepires,DedaPong, Since the beginning there were A MASSIVE LOAD of stuff YOU guys not only mentioned but presented as the game scope with,of course, tweaks, but part of the LORE,gameplay loop which were only making sense. Let me remind you some of them: • Unreal Engine 5 • Higher cap servers (up to 400 people) • 4 times bigger map (then it is now) • Xbox release • Inventory rework is still not done(postponed for Q4?) • More diseases; Diseases caused by bacteria include dysentery, cholera, tuberculosis and diphtheria. Viruses cause the common cold, influenza, measles, and poliomyelitis. Rickettsia, germs which are neither bacteria, nor viruses, cause typhus, scrub typhus and Rocky Mountain spotted fever(postponed for Q3?) • UNPACK ALL BUTTON FOR GENERAL BOXED ITEMS???????? • AI CONTROLLED ENEMIES (also called Grim Reapers) are released on the island during the prime time to cause havoc and death among the convicts • The fame game mechanics is an innovative way to help you keep what you earn during the gameplay even if you die. This is one of the crucial points that makes this game different from the sandbox survival games where you lose everything when you die. The second most important thing is that Fame mechanics are incorporated in the storyline and technology used within the game’s universe • Skills: Heavy Weapons/Swimming/Resistance/Climbing/Programming and Electronics/BioChem/Education and Pshychology/Animal Handling And another TON of things promised over the course of last 8 years on your videos, broadcasts, interview with streamers. But you guys thought that the community has forget and moved on. And this is your answer about WHY the general sentiment is OFF. A lot was promised from the start in the Prisoners Field Manual document that you got with the original supporter pack.Things that were crucial to the lore.Stuff that has been displayed in the comic I DO OWN as well even though that came out later in the PFM. Yes, plans change during the creation process.I do understand that the map can't be as big as was initially promised due to performance limitations on the game engine. But what about all the other features that could possibly be inserted but they were just either completely abandoned or postponed to a later date(which we do not know) despite it having been promised to come WITH version 1.0 release. People are here for more than 8 years waiting and supporting the game. This is a lackluster 1.0 release. While the 1.0 release does bring with it a full map rework, the long-awaited introduction of armed NPCs, and new vehicles like a seaplane and a tractor, the question remains: is this the product of seven years of dedicated development? For many, the answer is a resounding no. The core gameplay loop, while complex, often feels shallow and directionless. The narrative that was once a key selling point has been largely relegated to the background. And the overall performance, while improved, still falls short of what one would expect from a game that has been in active development for the better part of a decade. Rubberbanding still present. From 2 cars touching while driving one will always hard rocket launch into air. Puppets are bad.Like horrendous (spawn system overall, lag and teleportation, hitbox non existent and the list goes on.) And where are the armed officers/personnel from the bunkers? And those heavily modified monsters released by TEC-01 on the island?Yeah, the stuff that Tomislav Pongrac released on this ex-Twitter account?Stuff that were presented as "future content"? You spawn, grab things, build a base, loot POI’s and after 30 hours of playing you own thousands of bullets and almost every weapon on a PVE server. And what are you going to do with that? Shoot down MECHS to loot an EMP grenade or a TNT for what purpose?Selling it for money? To grab more bullets to re-loop the entire process? DedaPong tried his best and I guess he is cruising this motorbike forgetting the hype he created a long time ago. And please ask nicely RayKit to stop shilling the project or at least to give an honest review because we can all see the guy is losing it for a long time now. Almost feels like Star Citizen copium. Take a look at the history HELLO GAMES. The company that made No Man's Sky. Rough start they almost went bankruptcy and recovered in no time because they listened to the community. Learn more about them and maybe Gamepires will learn a thing. SCUM future is under a great cloak of fog. With respect we,the players.

I was so excited for this back when they put it in early access. They release with the same clunky foundation. If you want a better experience, just play Arma 3 Epoch mod, as you'll get the same thing just without the RPG skills. Even then, I'm sure you could find a server on Arma 3 with a skill system. I went back to this game every so often to see if they improved on it in any way. The only improvement that they actually added were the cars, where going around the map was much easier if you got a car. The game is still clunky, like you're playing DayZ standalone back when it first came out. So yeah, $45 for this PoS is just like burning your money, when you could get Arma 3 and have more fun with it with all the different gamemodes and modded modes that are available without having to wait 7 years for the hope that the game will function better.

This is the best game in this genre. It's hard at first until you understand the mechanics of the game. Besides the game, the communities of some private server owners are wonderful, and provide a positive experience. Definitely recommend it.

*sigh* I've been waiting for this game to go to v1.0 because I saw its potential. I’ve followed along for over 1100 hours of gameplay and now with the official release I can safely say the following: -This game is not worth playing. -Every update makes the game less fun for the player. -Every update makes the game more difficult for the player. -The developers don't know what they're doing, it’s been almost a decade and we just got v1.0. -This game will never get better. I played v1.0 and realized that everything I like about the game had been changed again for the worse. I really REALLY tried to enjoy this game, but it’s pointless. It’s uninstalled and if I ever play again I suspect it will be like every other time I reinstalled – A bitter disappointment.

A year ago I thought they wouldn't release a game with this interface. I won't look at the new bunkers because I don't want to manually stack nails with quality from 0 to 100. I don't want to look at this new map because I have to spend half my time in the menu dragging things. There is nothing here even for the level of an indie game. There are no quick transfer buttons, no quick crafting, for every action in the menu there is a context menu with another menu. I can't quickly get information about things, always and always you have to click, select, open. For two years we have to pull out one pin from the box, each time opening the menu. This is the worst interface of all. I do not want to use offensive words in your address, but I will not wish you luck either. I am done with this game. It is terrible.

Played scum religiously every day for 2 years... and now they launch 1.0 and i cant even get a server list consistently. More bugs than before... puppets spawn the same, puppets still high jumping walls. rains through 3 storey building into bottom floor, mechs shoot through walls and walk through, puppet hit boxes still bad, just to name a few... Map and scenery is amazing... game play mechanics, crap as before. Played for a few more hours...after this post and this game has become trash. Assests in game are flat. apples look like paper ornaments hanging on a tree. puppet hit boxes rubbish,... puppet movement...rubbish, puppet glitching....rubbish....the way they spawn in rubbish.... CANT BELIEVE THEY MAKE YOU PAY FOR THIS CRAP

The spawn system didn’t change with 1.0 — so embarrassing. Do not buy. Since the “Horde Update,” the spawn system has been completely broken and nonsensical, and the devs clearly don’t care. It’s been discussed for months, maybe even years, and the community hates it. Several custom servers have died because players left — it’s just tedious. Such a great game, ruined by poor decisions.

I only played the new 1.0 update for a few hour's. But as soon as I realised how abysmal the loot Is off killing these new NPC's I uninstalled. Who wants to go through a fight with a couple of NPC's, get shot and wounded to the point of near death to get a pair of trousers at 8% condition? There should be reward In fighting/ hunting these guy's, not another reason not to play the game.

they rushed a 1.0 release. The game is hallow, janky. NPC spawning is based on area of the player, rather than places on the map. You can be stealthy and careful, and you'll have enemies spawn literally next to you or round a corner that was impossible to enter. it had potential, and I held out hope they'd bring us what they promised. they refuse to be clear about mod support, after soundign favorable to, when asked if they just OFFICIALLY won't support it, or at least not lock modders out, they now won't comment.

Been playing for 5 years since may/june 2020...If you’re just starting now im very sorry. You missed this game when it was great. They constantly add crap nobody cares about and dont focus on the sh*t that actually needs attention like the janky ass combat system for example... DID YOU KNOW you used to be able to make a FAT guy... or a fat woman. Nope took that away long ago... There was tattoos… Nope. Gone now. Took that away awhile ago… guess you gotta spend the EXTRA money now on Danny Trejo DLC if you want those.. Did you know the length of your schlong and size of how big and busty a womans bosoms were determined how intelligent you are?? For example shortdik= smart/useful guy, largedik = dumb strong guy with better strength muscle potential. Now you get to be smart AND useful AND get to have the widest girth or biggest tits ever seen with no consequences to stats... Wish I could remember how the games stats/experience was when you got to play an overweight character but I cant remember because they just took it away so quick…There used to be crows for hunting and you would see birds flying around..Gone. No birds. Made the game a lot more harder.. Each update this game has gotten stupider and stupider over the course of 5 years. They ended up changing the WHOLE storyline...Guess being a prisoner on an zombie infested island surviving wasn't likeable or acceptable enough..Now your just some poor innocent civilian, a regular guy that got yanked from the dinner table with his family and sent to the island now. ANYONE COULD END UP HERE NOW! *I said that in a mocking voice as if it was actually ominus and interesting of a premise*... I don't even feel like Im playing SCUM anymore..This is not SCUM...SCUM is dead...This is SCAT!!! *edit* Didnt EVER think id be giving this a chance again after my review, but a VERY dear friend talked me into giving another try.. went back to try again and the game has gotten THAT MUCH MORE WORSE since the review..Now they have taken away STEAM (of all things) controller support. THANKS FOR ABSOLUTELY NOTHING..I wish i could have ALL my supporter money back. And my wasted time..cant forget that.

Still not working after 1.0 release. Multiplayer is not working due to Easy AntiCheat. This game cannot be uninstalled (except by manually delete the files) on Steam Deck and force me to hard reset my Steam Deck for be able to use it again. That an insult towards players who contributed the game.

I bought it in 2020 and played a bunch back then. I really liked the scenario and the difficulty of the game. When I saw 1.0 was released I was excited to jump back in..... Only to realize that the game feels exactly the same to me: - same graphics - same horrible melee fighting experience with hitboxes only to annoy you - sound effects don't make sense (zombies are frickin ninjas) - zombie AI still buggy af (jumping around, glitching through stuff) - feels generally buggy and unfinished It hurts me to say that the game still feels like early access. Not worth the 45 EUR. They might have added some content over the years but I don't care about that if the base still feels so unfinished.

I don't really know where to start with this one... I am giving this a No, because of what I expected out of a release. The current state of gaming industry is just constantly putting out unfinished products, and for a very long time this was another one of them. I had very high expectations of the 1.0 release, and as much as i appreciate the amazing work that the devs have done, I still consider there is no incentive to play again. This does not feel like a 1.0. This is still very much early access. No proper quest line No "dungeons" "raids". Quests very generic and daily. NPCs added a bit more life to the whole world but otherwise there is nothing to do. The formula if you are not a 17 year old kid, who has the time to be home and wait for their base to be raided, is the same: 1. Early scavenging 2. Be annoyed because your friend spawned 10 zones away 3. Get some sort of a vehicle 4. Get end game gear 5. Build a base and farm and all 6. The end Reality is, there is nothing to do after. When this game actually comes out I will rethink my review, but this is the reality. This very much isn't release, sorry guys. This game to this day has amazing potential, and once it actually comes out , I am sure it will be amazing For now, my recommendations are avoiding unfinished products.

I’ve been trying to enjoy this game for a very long time — over and over again throughout the years. After around 400 hours played and following SCUM since the early days, I was really hoping the 1.0 release would be a turning point. But now, after 7 years, SCUM has officially hit version 1.0… and sadly, it’s just not what was promised. The game still feels empty — the world lacks life, both in terms of player activity and meaningful AI interaction. The inventory system is still a mess, clunky and unintuitive. Core features that were teased years ago either didn’t make it or feel half-baked. It’s frustrating, because SCUM had (and still has) so much potential. But after all this time, I expected a more polished, complete experience — especially with a 1.0 label. Unfortunately, despite the hundreds of hours I’ve invested, I can’t recommend it in its current state. Maybe it’ll improve, but right now, it still feels like an early access game with a "full release" sticker on it.

I love this game, but unfortunately has bricked itself on my PC. Upon launching the game my pc hard reboots, i have found no fix. I have played the game previous years without issue, and got all excited about the new 1.0 release. As i said, no matter what i do the game forces my pc to shutdown upon launch (if it launches at all) This has rendered my game completely useless and unplayable, with little to zero information as to why or how to resolve it. Waste of money if you ask me, and theres no way to know if you buy this game if this will happen to you.

Soo got this game since it first ever came out ... and 1000 years later its finished... let me say slapping 1.0 behind a game doesn't make it a 1.0 basic bugs from 2 or 3 years back are still there zombie mobs are still buggy and not even fun to fight , places you fall true the map and die and loose everything, they added some stuff and fixed some stuff but in the end its still a good game with a broken foundation.... sad you guys release the game after 2 or 3 or 4 years and its still a mess with game breaking bugs FYI all these bugs are know because there in de bug section on there disocrd

Absolutely cannot recommend this game in it's current state. Feels like it's still early access. The spawning of NPCs so close that they spawn in already agro is just asinine. Hard to play a survival game when the game just decides it's time for you to die and materializes enemies in front of you. That someone thought this was a good idea actually blows my mind. There's a lot of other bugs, but nothing that is more infuriating to gameplay than the spawn system.

4 years ago I bought the game. It was really fun to play. Over the years the code has seem to devolve into spaghetti. On launch today what was a recently running game is now completely crashing my entire computer on launch (not crash to desktop its crashing windows completely the entire pc crashes). I would categorize this game as actual malware in the current state. I will not be running the game again I'm scared of ruining my expensive hardware. Please refund me.

I've been following this game for years now and with the full 1.0 release i just cant defend it the new "secret bunkers" are a joke its a hallway and 1 armory they removed some of the full bunkers for that and yes the map looks great and the NPCs are a great addition but i don't know how they call this 1.0 i don't see any new items (besides the 2 new vehicles) and it seems like a lot of the stuff they added was back-end stuff like server files and added more commands for players that use admin commands along with custom quests.when they updated the map they also remade alot of spots i know people would base the cave in C1 is now smaller and they did not even make it look good i can see the cutoff point and can crawl under the newly placed rock to see the rest of the cave i feel like most of the content to come out is in Q4 i have no idea why they did not just wait to release all of it at the same time and next time they really need to make a experimental branch of the game for players to test since yeah server were down the entire day along with when i did get in i spotted some glaring issues so no cant recommend this game as it is now since the price was raised so you are still buying the same game as it was yesterday but now you have brain dead AI with guns and a better looking map but i still love this game and i hope the next update actually adds something since the past 2 have been lack luster add the TEC 1 AI add the new bikes and boats you have been teasing on Instagram and twitter for months now and listen to the player base don't over hype don't show things that aren't going to be in the next update (looking at you sks)

Don't buy this game. Ignore what you see on YouTube You are being sold all the great parts of the game and not being told the bad. Even in single player, the game is cumbersome and janky. It looks great and if you want a nice wallpaper creator then maybe, but an open world survival game, look elsewhere, there are plenty alternatives. This game has promised so much and 1.0 was time to deliver. It doesn't. Instead of getting things right the devs appear to have concentrated on introducing as many elements as possible without a care for getting them correct. I was really looking forward to this game an was prepared to sink the hours into it but there is just too much random nonsence that ruins the experience. Then there is multi player. You cannot host your own server without paying, so good luck finding a server you want to play on, with settings you are happy with, that will still be there in a few months. Overall a massively disappointing miss. Bring on the patches, and fast.

This game is a joke. All the evidence you need is the last three trailers that have released and you will understand exactly what this game is. One big joke. It's advertised as a realistic survival game, but it's not even close to being realistic, and the survival part is a stretch when you consider how easy it is to find food, and you can just drink whatever water you want wherever you see it. Even ocean water, just watch out for the 'food repulsion' bar and you will suffer zero negative consequences from drinking sea water. Even then the worst thing that can happen is you throw up. The game loves to boast some kind of depth with its metabolism system, but take for example when I drink that sea water. I can go to the sodium bar and see that there are lethal amounts of sodium coursing through my body, but that doesn't actually have an effect on my character. All those vitamin and mineral bars are purely cosmetic. The only thing that matters is you have protein in you so you don't lose any strength stat. That isn't all, the whole game just doesn't work well. When you can just choose what sector you want to spawn into it makes pvp really dumb. I kill a guy and less than three minutes later he is back at his corpse coming at me with a machete he spawns with cuz he bought a DLC. Building a base is really not worth it when you consider how much less work it is to break into one versus building a secure compound. Because the respawn/lockpicking/explosive damage/base defense mechanics are hair-brained and half-baked it makes base raiding heavily favor the attacker. Then we talk about the pve and it's like what is there that you really do? You explore the world with the same copy paste buildings and bunkers, to get trivial scraps of loot and for what? To store it away until the devs/server owners decide to wipe it all. There is no end game content, you just jack around building a base or playing Bear Grylls with a gun until you get bored and play something else. Then we talk about all the planned content that will never make it into this game. Deadly weather events, mutated animals/hit squads sent against certain players/story missions/escaping the island/weight lifting equipment. I mean it has been years people have been asking for such a simple thing like removing ALL the nails/bolts/bobby pins from boxes. But even with 1.0 you still have to take them out 1 by 1. Do the devs just hate their player base or are they so incompetent they can't do something so small? I don't really care about the answer anymore, I'm just done with the game.

Ah yes, SCUM 1.0 — the glorious full release! Or, as it turns out, a slightly shinier version of the Early Access build with some paid DLCs duct-taped to the side. Don’t get me wrong — I wanted to love this game. The solo mode is a fantastic addition for antisocial survivalists like myself, and the core gameplay loop can actually be fun. I’ve had some good sessions. But after almost three years, what we’ve ended up with feels like DayZ wearing a fresh coat of paint and a sponsored hoodie. Let’s talk polish. Or rather, the complete and utter lack of it. No injury textures. No footprints on sand or snow. Every type of footwear — including bare feet — makes the same sound. Punching a tree or a wall? No blood, no feedback, not even a stubbed toe. It’s like the game is afraid of physical consequences. What really stings is that it looks like it should be amazing. And yet, when I look back to when I first launched SCUM, I struggle to point out what’s actually changed. It’s the same game with a few new mechanics and some weird paid collab cosmetics. Did the dev team get lost in the wilderness too? In the end, it’s not that SCUM is bad — it’s just unfinished. It still feels like a mod of DayZ with ambitions it never quite reaches. And now that it’s 1.0, that label doesn’t carry the weight it should. This should’ve been a slam dunk. Instead, it’s a confused jump shot that bounced off the rim… followed by a limited-edition supporter pack. Immense potential. Impressive disappointment. (Purchased on the 22.12.2022) EDIT: No it isn't about stubbing toes (literally speaking), what I meant is a mechanic such as in DayZ. Grass wouldn't cause bleeding as fast as gravel for example. I don't know if it's already a thing in SCUM but I didn't notice any difference while it is very noticeable in DayZ. It gives incentive to the player to prepare another pair of shoes. As usual, if the issues I have are addressed in the future, I'll give it a shot and may change my review.

As a Croatian person myself, it's kinda hard to say, but just... don't buy it. It feels like the 1.0 "full release" is just to make the game a full priced game at 45$. The addition of the tutorial, while it kinda makes the new player experience better, is also brutally sloppy, the tutorial has no recognition of what you've done, unless you're at that exact step in the tutorial, if you've done something before or have another way of doing it, you still have to do every step regardless, for example building a fire, you can place a fire blueprint, and if you add the required materials in the wrong order, you will have to make a second fire to add the other materials to the blueprint to build it, in order to progress the tutorial further... In terms of general game mechanics, SCUM originally launched as a deep survival game with the focus on metabolism, sickness and similar, but with the sandboxy goal of obtaining guns for ease of survival, and potentially PVP. In many aspects it's very similar to DayZ, but while this is hard for me to say, as I consider dayz to be a combination of gimmicks and bad UI/controls, to form artificial difficulty in a shallow game, this game somehow manages to do it even more on an even more shallow game. Many functions you would expect to be doable, simply aren't. The cooking system is just a mess, my character with basic cooking knowledge (that you have to actually invest skill points into to make it basic) is unable to cook a chicken drumstick in any way, while having a fire, grill, pot, and pan at his disposal, as well as a bottle of vegetable oil, onions, parsnips, garlic... I would expect simple chicken meals fit into the "basic" cooking category, but apparently for any cooking you want to do you need a "cookbook" to make any recipes, this means if you want to make anything beyond a skewer with some meat or mushrooms, you need a book, in your bag (you can't learn it), in order to prepare it, otherwise you have a lot of dead weight in chicken parts. The UI is clunky, hard to use, the controls are messy, if you want to change some control, good luck, the keybinds are for some reason split up into tabs (5 or 6 of them to be exact) with seemingly random ui/movement controls being placed in random tabs. As far as clunkyness goes, sometimes you need to rotate an item to fit it into a grid in your bag right? Well guess what the control is to do this advanced inventory management mechanic is... R? Nah that would be too unintuitive. Scrolling while holding the item? Nah that would also kinda make sense... holding down the left control button (I tested with the right and it doesn't work), and scrolling the mouse wheel. Every storage item you have equipped such as jackets, bags etc. has some limitation of weight, let's say a shirt with 1kg, let's say you decide to put in something weighing 843 grams (no I'm not joking they do indeed calculate weight to the third decimal of a kilogram), your shirt will say it is 0.8/1.0 kilogram weight, Now you can try to add something that says it's 0.1kg but in the description it says 158 grams, which is 1 gram over, it will simply shine red and not let you put it in the slot, leading to randomly testing out to see what combination of 0.1g items you might be able to slot into the slot... Let's say you're loading your pistol, you have your magazine, the ammo that goes in it, and the pistol, you can load a round into your chamber, now you pop your magazine into your hands, and drag the ammo over it, click the load ammo option on the popup menu with one option... In case you maybe wanted to... i don't know do something else. now your pistol probably went back to your pistol holster, which you will have to scroll down to in your inventory, but then you realise you have it bound to the 3 button on the hotkeys, so you press 3 and the metabolism tab opens, so you go back into the inventory, then close the inventory, then press 3 so your character takes the pistol, then reload to finally put the magazine into your gun. Why is it so difficult to simply have a check, if you have the correct ammo, just let me right click the magazine and click load, and let the character do the thing. everything else is just as tedious. You want to do some base building? Store some stuff? Understandable, after all you can only carry like 5 cans of goulash and a bottle of water before your character needs to take a break from running every 10 seconds or his heart is exploding. Well let's get to base building. You can either find an axe in a town, or make an axe survival style by looking for rocks, magicing out a knife from rocks, finding some more rocks, magicing out an axe head from rocks, find some bushes, cut them down with your knife, cut up the long stick into small sticks, take a break to let your character get some breaths in... magic some rope from the small sticks using your knife, and finally tie up the head of the axe to the stick with the rope. good stuff, now cut down a tree, then chop all the logs you got into planks, make sure you take some breaks, so your character doesn't pass out from exhaustion, he is actually anemic you see, so stressful exhaustion like chopping for 30 seconds is a very tough ask. great stuff, now you have about 10-12 planks. you can combine 3 planks into a bundle of planks, and carry it to your base spot. now place the wall blueprints as well as doorframes and doors. Assuming you want enough place to do literally anything, you can now proceed to repeat tree chopping procedure about 3 trees per wall, and remember to also chop the "tree branch" into sticks, and then bring the sticks to your building too, and chop the long sticks into short sticks, you can use the long sticks, but they go 1 for 1 if you just use them, but you make 3 small ones out of 1 long one if you chop them up. It's absolutely insanely tedious, the whole process takes forever, and is just a lot of waiting around looking a the circle and timer, as well as just standing waiting for your character to take a breath. During my creation of a few walls i also had to scramble for food 3 times, as i was running hungry, I was planning on consuming my canned goulash, but it backfired, even though it was mint condition, and completely unspoiled, upon consuming 3 portions (around 40% of my stomach capacity), my character started vomiting as the goulash was obviously too disgusting for him to fathom eating any more of, taking me back to 10% food with less water as well. Foraging is useless, you can eat like 30 figs and barely move your hunger, your stomach is always empty, and the only way to fix that is proper food. I caught a sheep, skinned it, chopped it up (apparently butchery is an in-born skill, unlike cooking a piece of chicken leg), i cooked some skewers, they were excellent for keeping me sated, then i realised my 3 backpacks of loot and meat i had on the ground under my shelter had randomly despawned. So it was back to town to recover things i might need, and learning from my mistake of thinking that surely backpacks on the floor don't get despawned within the hour, i made a wooden box out of 2 whole trees. The entire experience is utterly tedious to the extreme. Everything you do is tedious, and on top of that, there is no tactics to your in town exploration, you know in dayz, you look at the town from afar, see if the zombies are there, if they're disturbed, what's up... Here you can do that all day, but as you're looking you might get swarmed by randomly spawning puppets (zombies), AI with guns or bows, or (it actually happened to me, but probably isn't very likely) boars. And when you finally go into that fully scouted towns, zombies will spawn around corners, in houses, AI units will spawn around corners, behind you... Just... Play dayz... Or anything really. With constant server crashes, and countless bugs, and with the current experience I had playing I can't recommend it.

Joined a server, found some loot. Did the basic tasks and was going to a safe town. Had a bow and arrows, two guys started shooting me. Pulled out my bow and it was bugged. couldn't defend myself, died. Looked up the bug its 2 years old. Game was fully released, but still in early access. It's a Dead game for me and in October it will be a dead game for everyone.

Update 1.0 removed all the large and fun bunkers and replaces them with single room bunkers that are super lame. what a disappointing downgrade. The new NPCs are garbage with terrible AI. You can just walk up behind them and they have no idea you're there. They also spawn in your face. Stop adding more garbage when the zombie AI is still broken.

I really want to like this game. I understand it’s a survival game, but just getting your character up to speed or trying to fight off zombies feels frustrating. You go from town to town hoping to find something anything to help you craft a better weapon or gear, only to be constantly overwhelmed by zombies that seem to spawn out of nowhere. I’ll clear out five, and then another five just appear right behind me. Stealth doesn’t seem to work at all, or maybe I’m doing something wrong, because they always hear me no matter what I do. And if you want to play with a friend? Forget it. There’s no reliable way to spawn together. Your only hope is to randomly land in the same area or spend forever running to meet up. If you die and don’t have enough fame points, you can't even spawn in the same sector Crafting feels outdated, zombie movement needs an overhaul, and honestly, a lot needs to change in SCUM to make it more enjoyable IMO. And all that cool stuff they showed off in the trailer for 1.0? Forget about it. Gunplay, driving, flying it all looks great in theory, but in reality, unless you’re rolling with a large group, you're probably not going to experience any of that with your time in SCUM.

**UPDATE** I put in another 80 or so hours after initial review trying to tweak and adjust server settings to get some semblance of how it used to be before the horde update. It's not possible and quite sad. I have uninstalled. DO NOT BUY until you see a major update addressing the spawn issues. It is a dumpster fire. Unless you like magical zombies spawning out of thin air in bushes. Actually everything spawns out of thin air magically in front of you, behind you. Everything except animals. Those seem to have magically disappeared. Look at my hours. Been playing this game since initial EA release. Be ready to refund unless you like eating **** . Max camouflage max stealth laying in a bush and an NPC spawns 10 meters away and immediately starts shooting me. It is the worst spawning system in gaming history. An abomination. Was hoping 1.0 release would change that. Turns out I'm a **** eater too. The majority of those mostly positive reviews are from years ago. Unless they fix the spawn system the recent reviews will switch to negative. Avoid this game until puppet and npc spawns are fixed. You can thank me later.

Why are you guys making so many videos about the game and intro videos, but not fixing the game and improving it, especially the low hanging fruit? The sound is still not balanced a simple fix would be putting a compressor on the master chain, if nobody wants to adjust each volume and the few minutes that will take. Melee hits and gunshots are like deafening explosions, while looting sounds are too loud, the rest of the sounds are balanced, but way too low in comparison, so if you don't want the other sounds causing hearing loss you have to run around barely hearing anything at least on my speakers and headphones (Yamaha hs8 and Sony mdr7506) I could fix it for you in 5 minutes. Trying to find servers is a nightmare because the server list doesn't populate or partially does with 3-5 random high ping servers so you can't even play the game and have to exit the game and then try enter an existing game and exit it to try get the server list to repopulate, which it might do and seems random. Server list also has an IP address it keeps defaulting to, all of this happens to somebody else I know too. Couldn't have taken like 7 years for 1.0 and it's still like this. Apart from that rant, graphics and details are improved especially mid and north of the map, less obvious in the south with the similar lighting. , Weather like mist and sunbeams look great. Run down vibe is an improvement. Game generally runs better when you can get in, and movement feels improved, but maybe its placebo.

Where do I start... Well if you ever played DayZ in your life this is it on steroids F****** your mom... You are a prisoner either with a big shlong or big tits, thrown out of a plane on a island with nothing but prison clothes on your ass...no food, or water....just nothing. You spend the next 2 hours running in game more than you have in your entire life, just to find a few clothes that don't match, food that you cant open unless you have a knife, or has expired. Oh did I mention you do this while fighting hordes of zombies, NPC that are much more powerful than you, and avoiding the occasional GIANT ASS 50.CAL MECHS!!!! So all in all, BEST F-ING GAME EVER!!!!

Pretty shit game. Like it was never that good but you would think it would become better nope just worse! Now new shit they put in game is enemy npcs. You would think oh cool I dont need to fight players for cool loot execpt NO. The enemy npcs spawn out of nowhere on you. You could be sneaking around robots bam npc goes shouting and shooting at you. Sneaking around horde of zombies again same thing! And worst parts is they are heavily geared with guns! You can barely get them. So they can kill you in 2 or 3 shots making you lose all progress while not dropping any of the loot they carry. Because of course that makes sense. And this is just one problem with this came. I do not recomend it.

I love this game and have been playing it for many years. I'll keep this post short. With the new exhaustion system and our only sketchy way to level up strength taken away without a proper way to level up strength earns this down vote. fix this unbalance and i'll fix this review to up vote.

The Luis Moncada Character Pack is seriously underrated. This isn’t just another paid skin—it’s a chance to support someone who’s a true gamer, kind, and humble. Luis Moncada, best known for his role as Marco Salamanca in Breaking Bad, is not just lending his face here. He’s actively part of the gaming community and streams regularly. You can tell he genuinely enjoys the game and connects with the players. https://www.twitch.tv/luis_moncada_ For the price—15-10 dollars is nothing compared to the crazy prices of skins in other games. Some games are charging $180 or more for cosmetics that don't carry this kind of real-world connection. This DLC deserves way more support. You're not just buying a skin—you’re supporting someone who's present, engaged, and giving back to the community. https://store.steampowered.com/app/2371620/SCUM_Luis_Moncada_Character_Pack/ https://www.twitch.tv/luis_moncada_ Highly recommended.

What if I told you there was a game where you could survive in peace... A game where you could casually explore and build as you pleased? A game where you could socially interact with others in a non-hostile enviroment? Alright now what if you didn't have any of that and instead were beaten to death by a Chinese man screaming as loud as he can into your ears as he does so... then proceeds to take a dump on your severed head. Did I also mention you are starving and have consumed so many saturated fats that you are becoming overweight all while still sprinting? Compared to most Survival games this one for me, takes the cake... It's hard like really really really hard... Harder than anything I've personally experienced, You will starve at first, you will get infected wounds... You will have anything and everything unfortunate happen to you... But you will learn and get better as time goes on with the more you play, truth is the game is an experience and most aren't cut out for it, I certainly wasn't at first but now that I've picked the game back up, eager to learn... It's one of my favorite games at the moment.

The scum devs finally decided to dip their toes in the water and add in non-zombie/monster enemy AI into their game. If you're a long time Tarkov player, you'll understand why this is a negative review. As of writing this it's at an incredibly early stage, and if you have experience with gun wielding AI in realistic shooters, you'll understand how frustrating it is to engage with it. People were upset with how "Unfair" AI was in a game like Tarkov, and it's the same level of mechanical advantage in this game, only it takes real life days in order to piece together equipment, gear, ammunition, and weapons of a high enough quality to actually deal with these people. One of the caveats to something like Tarkov was that the AI was similar to you, in the sense that shooting a high-tier bot in the face-meat would put them on the ground much like it would a person. Not only that, but that once they were dead, they were lootable just like any other player. If they had an armored vest, a kitted out rifle, and a badass helmet, you could walk away with all of that and then some. In scum, this is not the case at all. They don't act or react like people, they have unlimited ammo, they don't consider foliage and only respect cover by shooting exposed body parts with pistols from eighty meters away, if they cannot path to a person they stand like a sentry waiting for them to come back into their LOS before immediately riddling them with bullets, and on top of all of that if you manage to kill them they drop puppet loot. The guy/girl walking around town with a basic outfit and a bolt action rifle doesn't drop the pristine clothing you just saw her wearing, or her gun. Or their ammo, or food, or bandages, or anything else you'd expect someone to have. Plus, the spawning mechanics surrounding them are similar to animals, where under certain parameters (Being in a city POI) they spawn in large quantities that are unfair even to people well equipped. The reason the game worked so well before with the slow loot progression is because you were fighting lots of stupid AI at your own pace, and the occasional player in incredibly high stakes "Winner takes all" fights. The NPC's aren't zombies, and yet you're rewarded the same for fighting them, and are punished the same for failing to. I don't doubt that eventually the AI can be reworked to be more impactful and rewarding to fight, or at the very least more human, but from other similarly complex situations it's going to be years before that happens, and that's generously putting them on pace with far bigger studios.

germans have to scroll down for their language. sry in advance for the wall of text, but you know, I realy wanted this to be a good game. Disappointment is real

EN
It's a monkey business, in a nutshell. Developers do what they want. As for the recent hours of play, I've played the so-called 1.0 release (that version number is too much of a joke!) for at most 2 hours, and spent the rest of the time in the pause menu with the in-game music player running; the custom playlist is quite nice. In the meantime, I also went shopping for a bit. If that doesn't say enough, details follow; I spawn, wondering about the "new" starting gear (rudimentary backpack, some food, a kitchen knife to feel cool, DLC #3 stuff, more on that later), only to lose it again a few meters later because a few of the new NPCs snipe me away with a shotgun. This is to be taken literally. AIMbot at its finest. My immediate sarcastic thought was "Why did I see that coming, when the spawn system doesn't work properly since the horde patch?" (Puppets that randomly spawn in larger numbers above your head, also to be taken literally). The same thing happens now with the awesome looter npc spawns that can spawn 5 meters (at least, not from above anymore...haha..) next to you, just cuz...reasons. If they spawn in front of you, you might survive if you already have a ballistic vest. If they spawn behind you, consider whether to respawn or quit the game immediately. A few other things happened, but I'll try (...) to keep it brief. The patch also released a new DLC (#3), which every player who had the game on their account during Early Access phase got for free. Or so you thought when you got those starting gear mentioned earlier. Today, after logging in, I wanted to try out the dances from the DLC, it suddenly said "missing the DLC." Regardless of whether it was intentional or not, removing the DLC from people's accounts the following day via hotfix, especially since a 1.0 release would have been a great way to simply say "thank you" to long-time supporters (I've been here since 2018) with a small gift, is just unbelievable. I'm already curious about the backlash that the developers are so greedy at this point. There's hardly any other way to argue: first tease and then ask for payment, all without any comment from the developers. And, additionally, compared to the previous version of the game, they "only" spruced up the map and brought back two legacy vehicles with their modular garbage (general community opinion, but feedback only welcome if it's not criticism). Everything else, especially the problems with the completely buggy render distance, simply stayed in place. And then they cheekily call it a release version, just to fit in with the general business practices of today's game developers, selling beta or even alpha state games as "finished." The Liverelease really is a total disgrace. The game is underperforming and could have used further optimization, but some particularly bright light decided, "I'm done." Horrible. Ever since the developers insisted on making their vehicles modular, things have only gone downhill, patch after patch. Before that, it was a really good game, innovative, albeit rudimentary in many places. I don't recommend anyone to jump in now. The game's best days are gone long ago.
DE
Ein Affencirkus is das, in aller Kürze. DEVs machen, was sie wollen. AIMbot at it's finest. Dachte man jedenfalls.

Mixed on this. I primarily am only single-player. Do not know if the game is/was balanced around that when I tried it. Lots of setup then get wiped out by a horde of zombies. Get back to location, find nothing. Repeat 2-3x. It doesn't appear to be structured hordes like 7 days to die. I no doubt was doing a lot of things wrong. Anyway when they say hard in the trailer, they mean it. I'll give it another try at some point, but if you like hard survival games this is probably for you. Edit: Why give it a positive review? It is a solid survival experience. It will take some effort to figure out the mechanics, build a base, spawn points, and so on. I'm not going to ding the game for it.

Have to say after all those years the game is looking nice and smooth. Of course there are problems there is no such game without them but watching the progress of this game you can see DEVS really worked on it. Keep it up
