I’ve played a lot of puzzle games over the years, and Gorogoa just... does something different. It’s not about matching colors or solving riddles. It’s about seeing how things connect in ways you don’t expect. And when it clicks? Oh man, it’s so satisfying.
The whole game takes place in this grid of four panels. Sounds simple, right? But here’s the twist: you can zoom in, slide panels around, stack them, peel them apart - like you’re rearranging pieces of a living, breathing picture book. And somehow, doing that moves the story forward. It’s like solving a puzzle and reading a story and watching a painting come to life, all at once.
What really blew me away is how intuitive it feels. The game never tells you what to do. No tutorials, no dialogue. But it teaches you through play. You start poking around, and suddenly you’re peeling a window off a building and placing it over a completely different scene - and it works. It’s clever without being smug, and challenging without being frustrating (well, mostly. There were a couple moments where I stared at the screen like, “What do you want from me?”).
The art is gorgeous. The music is subtle but beautiful, and it all adds up to this dreamy, meditative vibe.
Now, heads up: it’s short. Like, you can finish it in a couple of hours. But honestly? That’s kind of perfect. It doesn’t drag, it doesn’t repeat itself, and it leaves you with that rare feeling of “I just played something special.” Plus, it’s been out for a while, so you can probably grab it on sale.
TL;DR; Gorogoa is one of the most original and beautiful puzzle games I’ve ever played. It’s short, but every minute is packed with clever ideas, stunning art, and that rare kind of magic that makes you feel like you’re discovering something truly new. 8/10
