Cute, simple game. Would be an easy recommendation, but the fact that there are still known issues with softlocking and areas being closed off is UNACCEPTABLE. Gunbrella went off my wishlist, being indie is no excuse for shit like that.

Actual playtime: 2hr32m Good game, short metroidvania with good gameplay and good soundtracks.

Didn't even take 3 hours to 100% so it's pretty short and easy but the movement in this game is exceptionally well done (except for some passages with the kitty), the action fast paced and the abilities it shares with the Metroid franchise are more smoothly and creatively implemented than in the original games. Very easy to recommend. Great palate cleanser or game for an afternoon.

It's rough around the edges. There are some quality of life upgrades that would be welcomed. However, all in all it was a very pleasant 3 hours, and a good game. Some of the boss fights were really fun. (I especially enjoyed a four-legged one, and a hovering, spinny one; but they were all good.) And the sense of fun was off the charts with the mech, destructible boxes, and other stuff (buttons, collectibles, dialogue). To hop in and out of the mech as a cat was truly entertaining... but I wish they played around with it more. I would strongly recommend buying for that sense of fun... but don't expect a well-rounded experience. 7/10

MIXED RECOMMEND. I'd still wait for a sale, eight bucks is too much. Looks fine and plays okay, it's a metroidvania but it's small and light. The normal gun doesn't autofire, IE, you can't hold down the button to shoot. Normally this isn't a problem, since you have missiles for burst damage. Sure would be a shame if you had to fight a boss with only the normal gun and no missiles later in the game where you have to mash the button for any chance at good DPS to annoy your wrist or anything. Your character is kind of slippery and this will mess up your jump arcs, especially with the double jump. Invincibility time after a hit is also very short so it is very easy to get comboed if you don't readjust yourself (which, again, the mech is slippery so this takes a bit of practice). You can't skip dialogue sequences from what I can tell (and when you have to refight bosses multiple times because you slipped accidentally into getting hit three-four times, and you have to mash through the dialogue again when retrying, this gets really annoying, really fast). If you can get past that and get it on sale, it's an all right play for the length.

Well crafted small experience with a great amount of depth! The Story is simple but is very entertaining to follow and does enough to keep the game moving. The Characters are funny and are enjoyable to watch. The Setting is decent. Each area tries to do its own thing and there is some decent distinction from one location to another. There are even some effects such as water and heat that help separate one area from another. While its visual style might make it hard to separate one area from another, I think it does enough to give variety. Visually, its got a great retro style. Performance was solid throughout and I didn't run into any bugs or glitches. I also played all this on my steam deck and I must say that this feel like a game that was made for the system. The Art Direction is a perfect fit. I really like how the experience is in black and white and how there are collectables that can change the colour scheme which can be fun to play around with. The pixel art is really well done and is the right amount of detail for a game like this. Sound and Audio were perfect with the Soundtrack having some bangers especially with some of the boss fights and the Audio was very satisfying and fit well with the mech abilities. In terms of Gameplay, it was really fun and surprisingly had a great amount of depth. The movement feels really good especially with the different upgrades that you can get for the mech. The combat is simple but very fun and the enemies are well varied and offer enough challenge. I also really like how each area has its own enemy types and different approaches when it comes to gameplay which kept the game fresh. For a game of this size, I'm impressed by how many secrets there are in this game and how well it pulls off being a metroidvania. Finally, the boss fights are really well done and were actually really challenging. Overall, Gato Roboto is a great little time that is so worth it if you are looking for something to pass the time or want a smaller experience that can offer loads of content if you want it!

A short and original metroidvania, really fun to play. The visuals look neat, using only two colors and simple pixel art. And the story is good as well for being just 3 hours long.
