A real gem in the making!!
Although it's still a work in progress, this game is absolutely beautiful and is on track to becoming probably one of the best ship sims I've ever played! I would definitely recommend giving this one a go. Just be aware it is not a complete product yet. Expect bugs and unfinished features while still being completely playable and enjoyable even in its current state. I look forward to many hours playing Ships at Sea and I can't wait to see what else is added in the future.
Notes for the devs:
I would love to see popout windows for multi monitor users (eg: map, sonar, instraments) and possibly an API so we can create some sweet companion apps? Just wanted to throw that out there.

keep working on this and you may just have the best ship sim on the market , very addicting and fun gameplay loop of making tons of money with the long lines and some patience, or even transiting cargo from island to island with large cargo ships

I love this game. I come from fishing North Atlantic: Barents Sea and although it had a few bugs I absolutely loved it. With that being said, I love this game aswell it offers more to do than previous games and it’s still in early access with slot of amazing things to come. The graphics are amazing, The soundtrack is pretty cool and it has good physics. If you love or even enjoy commercial fishing, give this game a try.

Played for 24 hours so far. Been long line fishing with 8 sets of 2500 hooks and herring. Been making about 6.5 million per run. Game is peaceful and gives me the perfect storm feel to a deep sea fishing game. While it has some physics that need to be worked on and interesting jumps over the high seas with the boat, I would still recommend this game for any deep sea lover that is looking for a peaceful adventurous fishing experience. The graphics on my RTX 4090 make the game look amazing. With some setting tweeks in game you can really draw out the realism vibe this game puts out. Everyday on the water is a challenge. Mainly trying to capture the buoys just right. Calmer water the better. High seas can be quite challenging. I have the waves set on 200% so it can get interesting in rough weather but anything is possible. I can't wait to see what the future brings with this game and I hope the DEVs keep working on the game as time goes on. I've been looking for a game like this for awhile when it comes to deep sea fishing and I think I found it. 10/10 recommend for the perfect storm vibe.

Honestly, Ships at Sea is a great game for being in early access. So far, though i'm sure i'll run into a few bugs at some point, I haven't had any game breaking bugs. Since it's on sale, if you want to get it and you know that you would like a game like this, then go ahead and grab it. There isn't a tutorial right now but I didn't have any problem figuring out the game on my own. The game will give a super basic screen showing you what to do first off and then you are on your own. Don't worry though because they have a help menu which further explains everything the game has to offer. I certainly plan on playing more of this game and i'm excited to see where the devs take this game. If there is anything that I am noticing that I would want changed for future updates it would be this: I would like to see the fish not phase through the boat if possible, give the ability to change the skin of the various ships, add more ships, and finally a map extension would be cool to see as well.

If there was an Achievement for Falling in the Water 100 Times I would have unlocked it by now. Best Drowning sim out there 10/10.

- Extremely janky movement. - Terrible light rendering. - No motion-blur toggle on the graphics settings - No tutorial - Your character trips over itself when moving or lifting things.

I just requested a refund, too many issues, some of the same ones from previous titles. Titles they have abandoned, just as they will this one. For those of you who enjoy it, great may it bring you many many hours of play and in the end I hope you get the polished product you deserve. For me, I couldn't make it to the 2 hour mark, and that's highly unusual for me.

This game is extremely immersive. The devs have been doing actually meaningful updates to the game. They have been consistently improving and adding new features as they follow their roadmap. The co-op is fun and they are working to improve it more. The graphics are very good along with the physics and interaction. Keep up the good work! it's been a pleasure so far!

I have never been as conflicted as with this review. This game has so much potential, but at the moment it's not delivering. on one hand I've been playing 4 evenings in a row, but I'm also so annoyed. 1. the ingame Feedback feature crashes the game 2. manually loading a ship is incredibly tedious, stacking with no clear indicator of space left on your ship. the controls for the crane are not intuitive, and crane loading with waves can be very frustrating. I hope at some point automated/easy loading is added, but it looks like devs are not responsive 3. the controls and moving through menus needs some work (this is early access after all) 4. ship weight and buoyancy make no sense. The tier1 cargo ship was doing Tokyo drift, the tier2 cargo is just insane, bouncing on top of the waves. I get seasick watching it. 5. apparently in Norway the sun rises in the West and sets in the East but all that aside, when you're on the boat, it's quiet and the waves are hitting.. very nice game 👍🏻 + simulation FM radio station rocks!

The amount of efforts the Devs are consuming to enhance the game is unreal. I really like the game and it's satisfying to play it on public test with all new features gives you a great sailing experience Solo/Co op. They reply and view the suggestions of the people on discord to keep it alive. Worth buying ^^ THANK YOU.

I love me some naval games and I was a bit apprehensive in getting this after not enjoying an earlier title from the same developer. However, this is a pretty good game as it stands with a lot of further potential (and seemingly active updates with a roadmap). The graphics are great, the ship handling is fantastic, the gameloop is varied and fun. You can be a courier, fisher, or repairman (or all three). The game has multiplayer and could benefit from open lobbies or at least NPC traffic to make the world feel a bit more alive. The weather is a lot of fun as well. It would also be nice to have things to do on the ships while at sea because some of the journeys take a long time to transit and the devs are deadset against fast forwarding, which is fair imo. Love the game so far, one of the best naval/ship sims I've played.

The game in it's current state is still rather rough and I think you'd need a good tolerance for early access to get the most out of the game, but if you do the game provides exactly what it offers. A fairly solid nautical sim which is nice to see since most ship based games tend to focus on naval combat rather than the more relaxing day to day life side of things.

Early access with many features missing, but so far I've had 40+ hours of solid entertainment for about €20. It looks like improvements are on the way, but even without them, that's good value.

Played the public test version of the game and optimization seems to be fixed, and theres also alot more to do like towing boats, firefighting, etc. Compared to the last two games this is a big step up, especially since multiplayer is being added so while at times driving the boat is boring theres alot of variety between the jobs

I had high hopes for this game since i LOVE the previous games. I was extremely disappointed when i started and there was no tutorial, no explanation of what to do, NOTHING to help me understand where i was supposed to go. I wont refund the game since i have high hopes for it IF they ever implement the tutorial. But for now i wont recommend it. I will chech back in from time to time with the game to see if i am going to change my mind about recommending it.

DONT BUY THE GAME YET! This game is far from even being something ready. Every update you lose all your certifications. Missions are a hit or miss. I have had my Certs deleted on each and every update. Heck this update there I was in a tier 3 boat, update hit and couldnt even use it. Glitches out the wazoo! I run a 4060 and needless to say the graphics are to be okish at best. Every time i have looked at the road map there are more and more things being added, and literally things being either in process, not started but yet items that are going to be added much later, according to the road map , are being worked on when there are items that where supposed to be released on the current update are not even started. For me this feels very scattered at best. The numbers off steamDB speak for themselves. In May of 2024 there was a total of 1,351 as of today at the time of me writing this review there are only 115 online and a peak of 247 in a 24 hour peak. I wish all those who are playing the best and may it bring you joy, as for me this game is going to bench and collect dust until the dev team can get all of this fixed. Choice is to the player in the end but for now this game is a hard pass, who knows, in the future it may change my opinion but there is way to much for me that needs to be fixed. It's no where near ready for release.

In its current state I can only recommend if this on a deep discount. Or your are fan of watching movies while you game. There is NO time compression as of now for travel and no word if it will make it into full release. Get Fishing North Atlantic (Same Devs) if you are looking for a polished game that respects the time of the player. The models and environment are well done and the game has potential. But as of now it is pretty rough around the edges still. It is missing half the skills also. If you can stomach it with no time compression and can get a fishing boat. Then the game probably plays more like their other games. But if you are looking for delivery, ferry, or any of the mission types outside of fishing. Then be prepared to have a book or movie handy as you will be traveling real time. In the three hours I have played. I have went from the main port to the farthest south port and back. The vast majority of the time was spent on autopilot and I watched two movies. I can't say it was engaging game play. But I am stuck with the game now as I am past the 2 hour return window. I made enough money to upgrade the engine and prop of my ship. This one needs to cook a bit longer and hopefully they meet their roadmap time of a 2026 full release. Adding time compression for travel would be enough at this point to change this to a positive review. But until that is added to the game this will remain a no. I highly recommend watching a couple videos to see if this is a game you want to support at this time.

Tried twice to get into this, it's quite junky, UI is terrible, performance on a 4070 is horrible, it feels like a downgrade compared to their previous title. I hope they can fix all glaring issues after v.1.0

Decent graphics, anoying gameplay loop. This game has a solid visual presentation and the water rendering is commendable. However, the core gameplay quickly becomes tedious. The boats are incredibly slow, and the progression system is buried under layers of certifications and grinding. At the moment, I cannot recommend this game, sadly. There is potential here, but the current implementation alienates players looking for fun, speed, and freedom on the water. Suggestions for improvement: Free Play Mode – Add a sandbox or free play mode where all boats are unlocked and players can enjoy the physics and scenery without grind or certification locks. Toggleable Mechanics – Allow players to disable or simplify restrictive systems like licenses and certificates. They kill the pacing and fun for casual users. Better Small Boats – Introduce more engaging small vessels such as: Offshore racing catamarans (e.g., DCB M31) Jet boats (Jetstream-style or NZ sprint) Jon boats with longtail motors (Thai/Florida style) More Interesting Missions – Expand beyond fishing and cargo: Time trials Racing challenges Stunt and obstacle courses River navigation and exploration tasks With some quality-of-life updates and more dynamic gameplay options, this could grow into a fantastic title. But in its current form, it’s too slow, restrictive, and grind-heavy for what should be a fast and fun boating experience.

Really should enable that tutorial again. As a new player I will probably change this to a recommend eventually, but it's pretty bad even for an early access game. Should be good eventually, just completely unplayable for first time players. I know what you're going to say, but it shouldn't cost as much as it does for something unplayable even in early access.

kind of meh, there's 8 boats in the entire game and the map is very, very weird. You're neither in Fjord land, nor in continental Europe. It's like a custom Carribean Norway. a gazzilion of small tiny islands, some of which are practically like reefs sticking out of the water and they all give out Norwegian vibes (gray, rocky, not a single tree or bush in sight) very boring tbh, you literally spend hours just staring at the autopilot following the line to your destination, slowly, getting there, just to start fiddling with boxes and crates at the delivery location. looks good visually tho. Not the best, but its above average in graphics. Weather is wonky. If you select rain weather, for some reason the boat starts jumping out of the water, quite literally going airborne, in full length leaving the water. Not a fan of that at all. There's no water displacement for the boats. Everything glides over "water", doesn't go through water. For this reason, controlling the boats is very wonky. Full left/right will not even turn the boat, But overall it's not that bad. has fishing, cargo deliveries, towing and harbor maintenance missions. you can customize the boats, somewhat. The fishing though..... OMG, it's the worst I have seen in any game. And the fish is absolutely broken. I pulled a 287kg fish, by myself, using a jigging rig. The texture on the fish is asolutely broken :D even the pictures of the fish in the inventory are broken xD one half side is just white, and the other half side is the entire fish texture, so there's 2 eyes on one side next to each other and no eyes on the other side xD The jig is flying off in the air, and the fishing mechanic allows you to just spam the mouse button until you catch a fish, because there's no penalty for not bouncing the jig while the bouncing meter is on red :D you can't even sell the fish you caught -_-

Look—this game’s not finished. That’s clear. But it runs smooth, didn’t crash once, and already shows signs of solid work underneath. I haven’t even gotten in the boat yet and I’m still impressed. The docks, the details, the way the world feels lived in—it’s got something. No tutorial? UI feels clunky? Yeah, it’s early. But if you’ve played enough sims, you know what to look for. And this one’s on the right path. You can tell they’re trying to build something that lasts. Game’s running great on my build: 5950X / RX 6800 / 64GB RAM / 1440p @144Hz on an AOC I’ve worked on the water most of my life and I play a lot of sims. This one’s got that slow burn, work-your-way-up energy. It’s not for everyone, but if it hits for you, it really hits. I’ll be watching this one. Respect to the devs. — Niko Solon

Try and see past the negative comments in the reviews, its still Early Access and a lot of people forget they've purchased a game still in development, on the store page they have a road map, make your own judgement. I've played roughly 30 hrs, and I love it, its a chilled simulator with a lot to do in it, expect a slow start (row boat) but I suggest you get a bank loan. If you love water and boats this for you, I'm keeping an open mind, but I'm impressed so far..

Hard to recommend it at the moment. Hard to see if missions are bugged or paying when doing multiples. It is the best sea game, and supposed to have coop which I didn't try yet. So I have to recommend as it is the best of it's kind that I have played so far.
