Fallen Aces
The A.C.E.S, watchful guardians of Switchblade City, are being taken down, one by one. Now it's up to one man, with two fists, to get to the bottom of it all. Fallen Aces is a crime noir FPS that plays right out of the '90s and looks like it's right outta the comics.

New Blood never Disappoints: The fact that on my first playthrough it took me 30+ minutes to beat the first level and then later when i finished the game i tried to i Speedrun it and i beat it in 33 SECONDS, NOT MINUTES, SECONDS! It just shows you that you can play the game as slow or fast as you wish and the game doesn't forcefully hold your hand and tells you ''You NEED to go THIS way and play THIS way for THIS part of the game or you WILL not progress'' no. Instead the Game/Devs allow you to just beat the game in less then 15 minutes and then refund it and even if i did what i just described i still wouldn't refund the Game because it's just great and for 12 bucks (well actually 15 because of the price increase from the recent update) its very, very worth it + Gianni does 80% of the Voice acting for this game so i literally can't complain XD

A really good start to an Early Access immersive sim, inspired not only by classic detective noir media (obviously), but also a bit by *Watchmen*. It has everything a game of this sort needs, which boils down to one principle: every situation has multiple ways to solve it - violence, stealth, deception, it's all here. They understood the assignment, and gave it a lovingly-crafted art style and great voice acting that completes the world. There are definitely a couple of things that don't work - trying to use environment items like trash cans to climb around isn't exactly intuitive when they are represented as paper-thin 2D elements in a 3D world. But the real drag is the inventory - you have only three slots, and *everything* occupies one of them. That means melee weapons, healing items you want to reserve, and ammunition as well - which stacks in pitifully-small amounts. And the entire game "economy" seemingly exists only to let you buy two additional slots (limited to a heal and one stack of ammo), but you won't reach nearly enough cash to get these until the game throws thousands at you near the end of the first episode. No idea if that will carry over to Eps 2 & 3, either, as nothing actually *in* your inventory carries between chapters, making the levels with "black market" shops with prices all over the place feel like flushing money down the toilet. The game only has one of its three planned episodes thus far - its five chapters took me about 3ish hours to get through, but it's clearly designed with replayability in mind, and I feel like there's just enough good jankiness about the game that it might be of interested to speedrunners. I would hope they revamp a few of the pain points here and add a bit more depth to combat in the coming episodes, but even if things stay as they are, this game is an absolute steal even at a non-sale price, and guarantees you some great i-sim content drops to check in on periodically. Highly recommend.

Literally my only complaint about this game is that the levels are sometimes confusing, but don't tell you where to go. Everything else is basically perfect.

Very enjoyable "beat em up" style game with a great aesthetic and easy to learn game play. So far the story seems interesting so far and I'm looking forward to see where it goes (only 3hrs playtime). The game is broken up into 4 levels (Chapter 1 only so far), but it looks like chapters 2,3,4 are in development, which allows lots of free roaming and many secrets to be found. Score - 8.5 / 10

Love new blood, love the mafia vibe, love the comics aesthetic, the watchmen like team of heroes is just part of the story, but i would love to see and know more of them, the voice acting is pretty good, the first episode was awesome, can't wait for the next episodes and see more of everything that made the first one so good. Also is this game pro-gooning or anti-gooning? ba dum tss

Very fun game, still is in early access, but there's more than enough content. Everytime I come back to even just the first area I discover new things. Love the artstyle and atmosphere/ Can't wait for episodes 2/3.

Fallen Aces is just straight-up cool. The combat feels super punchy and fun, like you're in an old-school comic book brawl. You can sneak around or go full chaos, and both feel awesome. The hand-drawn art style looks amazing and gives everything a gritty, pulpy vibe. Every level is packed with cool stuff to mess with—bottles, bats, secret paths, you name it. The voice acting is cheesy in the best way and fits the tone perfectly. It’s like a mix of classic gangster movies and Saturday morning cartoons. If you like games that let you be creative while punching bad guys in the face, this one’s a blast.

A cute little retro imsim with callbacks to classics like doom and other gems. Play stealthily or go in guns blazing. Just keep your eye out for those secrets, some of those things are especially hard to find. The game rewards experimentation so see what all you can get away with. As of right now, only the first "Episode" is out consisting of 5 chapters but considers A. What we already have is well worth the money and B. Quite a bit more is still planned It is an absolute steal at that price point!

I spent 4 hours mostly on the first level alone just looking around the map finding secrets learning the combat etc, this is already looking like one of my favourite games ever, the devs have done an amazing job on everything from map design to combat and the voice actors and artists are fantastic.

Very Big Fan of this game. I think this Game truly deserves the title of immersive sim. Awesome Art style and there's so many little secrets everywhere, it gave me a child like feel of discovery and I love it. Of course the Game isn't finished yet and I haven't put as many hours into it, but the hours that I did put into it were PHENOMENAL. Cheers to the devs, Can't wait for Episode 2 :3

I really think this is a fantastic example of what style and substance can do to make the tools being used to create irrelevant. An immersive sim about fighting gangsters as a Private Investigator a-la Naked City or Sam Spade wrapped in Americana and a Watchmen style post-hero clean up the town plot full of references to local production economics. Please make more of this.

Fallen Aces is a gem, even in its current state. The game reminds me a lot of Dishonored, both with the fantastic gameplay and the splendid level design which gives you so many paths and options for any particular encounter. Although the pace might be a little slow compared to New Blood's other shooters, every moment is exhilarating and tense, and the inventory management adds another layer of complexity. If you're a fan of immersive sims at all, this game is absolutely one to give a shot.

IMPORTANT NOTES: Despite looking like a Doom clone on the surface, this game is arguably an immersive sim. Very important. PROS + Accommodates a variety of playstyles. With the exception of one level (to my knowledge), combat doesn't seem to be mandatory. Unarmed and blunt attacks also do not kill enemies. Whether you want to be Garrett, Batman, or literally any Sin City protagonist is up to you. + Aesthetic is very well-defined and the worldbuilding is very interesting. Excellent environmental storytelling. + Combat is frenetic without feeling overwhelming. Going up a group of goons FEELS like a lot--but it's not as brutal of an experience as a lot of other games tend to treat it. + Interesting story. I feel this is worth emphasizing. In games, especially action-oriented ones, the story is typically a conga line of cliches meant to enable gameplay. It's certainly understandable, but I would like to applaud this one for actually laying the groundwork for an interesting narrative. I hope the devs roll with the momentum they've created. + Weapons are great. Everything that you can pick up (distinct from the term "anything that isn't nailed down" because you can actually pick up a few things that are probably nailed down) has a niche. Guns FEEL powerful and dangerous. CONS - NPCs can get a little stupid. They don't know how to handle long-range attacks, hearing distance seems to be arbitrary. Not a problem if you aren't hoping for Condemned: Criminal Origins-level intelligence. - Basic goons have a strangling attack that deals damage over time and is difficult to counter. Fortunately they go down just as easily as they can grab you. - The final level of Ep. 1 ups the difficulty by a fair margin. Not a problem if you've been enjoying it like I have, but be sure to play a lot more carefully. At the time of writing, this game costs below $20. At least twice as much content is slated to be released in the future, and there's a steam workshop meaning that content will probably never stop so long as this game develops a modding base. Due to the fact that it's an immersive sim, this is a must-have for fans of stealth, brawlers, FPS, noirs, 90s comic books, or Gianni.

Honest to god top 10 game. Just finished the finale, and I was on the edge of my seat the whole time. I love this game because it doesn't have to look realistic to be realistic. If you attempt to attack head on, especially on the harder difficulties and later game, you will get gunned down, which makes this game stand out because you have to think about your approach. between the beautiful artstyle, the design choices, and the harsh reality around every corner, this game is full of character, and its designs are wonderful. 10/10. Play now.

I recommend Fallen Aces if you like atmospheric action games and enjoy the vibe and setting the game presents. If you’re not a huge fan of first person games, I don’t think that there’s much here that is going to change that, but if you have any interest in FPS games and Immersive sims, you’ll find Fallen Aces is a must add to your library.

In a world where the true immersive sim was basically drug out back and shot in the head, this game shines as proof that the genre isn't completely dead yet. Please buy this game so they make more like it and I can play them, thanks.

A stylish immersive sim that offers a unique fusion of beat 'em up and sneak 'em up mechanics paired with multi-layered sandbox level design reminiscent of games like Dishonored/Hitman. Like many immersive sims, this game's levels are constantly (but quietly) asking you to deviate from your plan and embrace a little chaos. Don't have a key for a door? Kick it down. Oops, that was loud. Now an army of goons is chasing you. Run into a room, turn the lights off and litter the floor with banana peels. Giggle to yourself as they slip and fall in the dark. One of the goons will remark that they "must be having another stroke". It's probably impossible to witness this and not have a good time. I was constantly surprising myself with various silly/improvisational strategies that I came up with on the spot that somehow worked, often times to hilarious effect. They do a great job of never funneling you too hard into one specific style of play, so levels really feel like vast possibility spaces. If you like wacky sandboxes filled with the potential for emergent gameplay, chances are you will fall in love with Fallen Aces. Very excited to see what else they add to this game.

The best thing about Fallen Aces is the really fun melee fighting and the big, open levels where you can do missions in your own way. The newest big update made the game even better. They made all the cars look amazing with new designs, added new moves for the Tommy Gun enemy, and fixed many things to make the game smoother. Also, there is a new level editor and Steam Workshop support, so players can make and share their own levels! 10/10

As a general rule I mostly avoid FPS but the Crime Noir morally compromised, hard boiled, protagonists always draws me into the over exaggerated bleakness of these worlds. It's a world full of played out one liners and over the top bad guys but this one has a beautiful comic book aesthetic and the combat fits perfectly into the action. 3 hours in and I can see i am going to enjoy getting to the bottom of this case, even if the protagonist's favorite pastime is getting to the bottom of his next bottle.

Was expecting Wolfenstein with a comic book noir aesthetic. Turns out it's the love child of Condemned and Dishonored, and the devs did a lot of coke before reading every Detective Comic that came out before 1950. Animations are smooth, combat and stealth are on-par with the best of the new Wolfenstein games, and I never felt any friction when exploring or platforming. Story is surprisingly thoughtful for a retro throwback and I can't get enough of the gorey pop-up book style. Only nitpicks so far: since the game's only a third done, expect to get some choppy frame rate when things get exciting. Also, an equippable compass or just a dot on the map to show where you are would be great. Besides that, if the next two episodes are remotely this good, they could sell this game for full price, easy. P.S. Please allow me to wield a trashcan lid and beer bottle simultaneously so I may role-play as a Meth Paladin.

Like the game, like the look, and all that. Really, the one thing that stood out that I didn't like was the weapons being broken on enemy take down. Shoot a guy in the head with a nail gun but the bar he's holding magically has zero durability. Can we please get this changed?
