Old School Rally

Old School Rally is an elite Steam Deck racing game. These days, my Deck is used almost solely for racing games, and Old School Rally is 100% getting added to that rotation. Old School Rally has a seemingly simple arcade handling model, but after about 5 hours, I can see the importance of brake and throttle control. Easy to grasp, but has a lot to it. Has a retro graphics style with undeniable charm, which also lends perfectly to Steam Deck optimization. Runs virtually flawless with an occasional hitch. Only real problem is a brief freeze right when crossing the finish line, but it doesn't affect your ability to win races or affect your overall time, so not a glaring issue. Lastly, the soundtrack absolutely bangs. I'll definitely be listening to it even when not playing the game. Highly recommend Old School Rally!

Worth it for the soundtrack alone. Also the best sense of speed in any current rally game. Now give me a rallycross game in this style please.

Easy to pick up and play with forgiving yet satisfying physics for fans of arcade Rally games.

If you plan on getting this to just relax and play a something that reminds you of games that came before it, there's nothing wrong picking it up. However if you're like me and love these games, especially the ones it's based on, I wouldn't bother, Between callouts that would have an irl driver beat their co-drivers head in with their helmet, poorly modeled maps, and the cars behaving weird on some maps for no reason I really can't stand playing it. I played the beta/pre-release demo and hoped the problems I saw at that point would have been looked at or worked on by now, they haven't. The game looks great, but doesn't play great, it fails to capture the image it's immitating by trying too hard to be multiple things at once. The dev tried to fuse Mcrae rally with Sega Rally Champ, which just doesnt work. it's one or the other, With maps too tight for the SRC arcadey slide turning, Over-acceleration, the absence of calls half the time, and obscene grind for cars, I'll stick to the originals and modern counterparts I can actually perform on.

I had way more fun with this retro rally game than I thought I would. Honestly, I’m really glad I gave it a solid chance. The car selection is peak, and it’s the kind of game that’s perfect to play with some music on in the background (honestly the best way to play it imo). You don’t need to be nostalgic for old school racing games to enjoy it either. There’s a good amount of content for the price, so if you’re into cars or rally stuff at all, definitely give it a try!

really nice classic feel, really enjoying playing through the game brings be back to the ps1 rally games of days past. if i could add one feature to the game to make it a bit more exciting i would add something like what sega rally 2 had where there are spectators and animals that go on the road and as you get close they run off the track, this would be just the cherry on top

I like this game but it gets pretty boring after a few rallys and to be honest if you are trying to 100% this game like I did, then know that the last two achievments are so tedious... It took me just over 25 hours of non-stop playing to get the last one which is to drive 1000km in game (each track is on average about 3km) so if you do the maths you find out that i had to do about 300 individual tracks. In conclusion the game itself is pretty fun but only for a certain period of time but I do still think it is worth what you pay for.
