I want to like it, everything just feels slightly awkward to do. Maybe later on, you get better structure components, but as it stands in the first few campaign missions, even just building a basic 10+ meter tall tower feels clunky and frustrating to do because you have to build the staircases in a way where they can't just go straight up (very tight spiral staircases going straight up have existed for thousands of years). If this exists later in the game, great! Then it should be made available sooner, as restricting such a basic design concept past Prosperity III level is nonsense. Outside of that, I got to a mission where you meet the Sirenas. I am playing on Easy and within 20 seconds, the boss had spawned literally right on top of my walls and did massive AOE, destroying over half my structure in a matter of seconds. It was tier 3 toughness, too, so it being annihilated that quickly on *easy* seems a bit ridiculous. Adding in the rain debuff aspect is just unfun, and then I saw in the Tutorial section that later on you have to also deal with Darkness. So juggling height requirements for specific units, overhead coverage, light, strict structure support, and structure toughness, while also dealing with a dozen different building extensions to optimize your base, just feels burdensome. I will say that the Blueprint system is pretty great and making it super simple to import Community-made ones through the Workshop is fantastic. The art style is great, the sound and music is well done, and the story presentation was engaging. TL;DR: I do like the gameplay to some extent, but I think this game just isn't going to be for me. I really love base building RTS games, and playing turtle defense type maps in the original StarCraft was a favorite of mine back in the day. I was hoping this game was going to be somewhat similar to that, with the added ability to craft the structures. It sort of is, but be prepared for a lot of micromanagement and high difficulty.

Such an awesome combination of RTS and wave defense. Takes skill to get the macro down well. Did the campaign on hard and still loving the game, doing skirmishes then maybe I'll try extreme?

Pretty tough on extreme difficulty. Had to replay one mission, the first one with mist fuel. Fun concept/engine. If you decide to play it, two tips, you can increase the number of workers on sawmills/quarries, and when you begin using warehouses, you have to use the "recalculate route" to get the workers to deliver there (sometimes), but almost always after you load a save. Narration was hit or miss, story premise is great, writing is so-so. Extremely unique art style. Overall worth a play-through.

Cataclismo is fine. But I would not recomend it to a friend. Cataclismo very creatively combines 3 types of games: A Real Time Strategy (RTS), a Tower defense, and a builder. While all 3 components are fine, none of them ever really shine. Additionally the story and setting of the game are fairly bland and boring. RTS: 3/10 The RTS aspect of the game is fine but there are many superior games if you want to play an RTS. I found myself wishing to skip through this aspect of the game to play the others. It's just slow and boring and doesn't really tie in well with the building or tower defense aspects. Building: 5/10 The building is once again, fine. However this aspect of the game is very time consuming and doesn't really reward creativity. Blueprints are useful but if you place it 1 pixel off (the game does not tell you if blueprints can be successfully placed), the whole creation wont work and then you have scrap and redo the whole thing. Tower Defense: 6/10 The tower defense was... fine. The levels where you are focused on just building and positioning units were among the best. Once again, however other games simply do this better. Overall: 5/10 The game is fine, and its very interesting to see these 3 mechanics in 1 game. However, none of them live up to their potential. I would play something else if I were you.

This is mostly a "buy at significant discount if interested". Having finished the game, I will condense my thoughts into some bullet points.

Story is pretty bland, the idea could have worked but the execution falls flat in every aspect. Voice, visuals, music, audio, all of it - nothing stands out.
Feels like the game railroads you into min-maxing as I never had enough to build up proper, massive defenses like the walls of Ciudad Hogar.
Constructing things feels very restrictive, following a structural integrity system that only seems to take the vertical elements of the block into account: empty spaces are BAD. This means that things like adjacent structural support isn't a thing (so you can't build a spiraling tower staircase going up multiple floors) and arches don't have any structural stability by the game's logic.
Certain objects just feel stupid to work around, like the Tactician's Table.
Defensive traps and decoys are useless - the resources are better spent on literally anything else.
Gameplay is SLOW. Might be how They Are Billions played, but it certainly doesn't work in Cataclismo. Enemies are slow, your units are slow, resource gathering is slow, everything is just... slow.
Having played and finished what game there was during Early Access, it doesn't feel like they added much beyond the surprisingly short remainder of the story, or perhaps what additions there were are so forgettable that it just feels like it.
Hogardians! After 67 hours of playtime chasing all the achievements, I can confidently say this was a great game and an excellent first attempt at the RTS/Builiding genre. The real-time strategy with creative building mechanics was a lot of fun and constructing towering fortresses while carefully positioning troops is essential for survival at the highest difficulty. Every wave feels like a puzzle, and the sense of completion after just clutching a win on the final expert wave is incredible. The game strikes an amazing balance between thoughtful planning and combat. You’re constantly challenged to adapt, optimise resource collection, and innovate your designs, but it never feels overwhelming. It’s clear the developers put immense care into every aspect— and for a first attempt in the genre, it's great. Achieving 100% completion was tough, largely due to the Skirmish maps being quite the challenge compared to the campaign, and usually I'd be the first to give up chasing those last few achievements. But, the improvements with each failed attempt or reload were addictive. The campaign, side missions, and various challenge modes overall offer some really nice depth and variety, and there's a constant sense of progression. If you're a fan of well-designed Tower Defence/RTS games, Cataclismo is absolutely worth your time and I'm looking forward to expansions/sequels (if we get any!)

After playing They Are Billions, I really wanted this game to be what I was looking for. Being able to build my own castle and strategically build the optimal setup to stop wave after wave after.... wait what? That I can only have a very limited amount of units on the map? So that Great wall I built cant be completely full with the strongest unit in the game? And thats where the things start to crumble (Not only my walls).
Pros:
- Build castle and walls how YOU want to. The games strongest point and can easily use hours and just have fun with this. I can not understate how much fun it is and how much time I spent on just this one thing. - Build the army that you want to compose. - Terrain height and weather effects the way you play.
Cons:
- Not being able to man every great wall you have built since there is a unit cap. "Well just expand your unit cap", well thats not enough. - I want rows of units standing on my walls, but instead I have to limit it to the same optimal unit composition of 2-3 different types of teams consisting of 7-8 units. - Story is VERY bad. I stopped listening to their horrible voice acting, poor character design and even worse character development. - Story is using a "mechanic" called "fold time". Its basically a save mechanic, and serves no purpose for the story really. - You can pet a raven in mission select.... it does nothing, serves no purpose. - Terrain works horribly with the free camera mode. Several times when I was trying to build a stairway along a pillar in campaign, I was fighting the camera more than it was needed.
Conclusion:
It had a potential to to be a great game. However, the story reminds me of some of the story from Homeworld 3, absolute dogshit and makes me completely uninterested in the campaign. By the time I got to the 3rd last mission, I just wanted the game to end so I could put it in the back burner. The construction of castle, walls and optimising the living quarters is so much fun though. Creating things with these mechanics were so cool, and it is by far the games strongest point.

One of the rare indie games that isn't just great, but really great enough that I would actually finish it all to the end. Very fun and polished adventure.

I am a long time RTS fan, playing similar games since Age of Empires, and Myth: The Fallen Lords. This game is AMAZING! Awesome game play, both combat and city management. The building aspect is very fun with a lot of space for creativity. The art and aesthetic of the game is beautiful, and the story is compelling.

cool game, has a few rough edges since you cant freely build and bring all of your ideas into reality, but for all its limitations, it is pretty fun and poses some interesting challenges.

Honestly one of the best modern RTS games to date. It's pretty accessible to anyone who isn't familiar with the genre or those who want to have a challenge with it's different difficulty levels. Although it's still pretty challenging later in the game if you aren't able to micromanage well. Since it's a single player game RTS, it has the feature to pause the game if you're overwhelmed by too much stuff going on and this will help immensely. Story is serviceable but the added touch and care to the game's lore is very much appreciated and is fairly unique and well made. Would rate this about an 8/10 overall, it's honestly a good pick up if you're even the little bit interested in it.

A game I desperately want to see DLC for. It's very good, but it's not *quite* there. It's missing a certain amount of depth and complexity to add to it, be it more variants/possibilities/requirements for structures or base mechanics. It's... Good, it's just, hmmh. I wish there was more.

If you've played They Are Billions or Diplomacy Is Not An Option, you already know what you're getting into. Cataclismo has a wonderful aesthetic, and the granularity of being able to build walls and fortresses piece by piece is something I've not seen before in a colony defense game like this. The tradeoff is that it becomes quite mentally taxing to prepare for each night of "invasion", because you can spend hours with time paused building up the perfect walls with all the buffs and protections you might need. I finally finished the campaign, though I had to come back to the final mission 3 times before finishing it, just because of how much there was to juggle and build.

Compelling and amazing city builder | RTS | Tower defense! First time in awhile I was so immersed in a city builder. The story is cool, the world-building is fantastic, the aesthetic is soothing, the game mechanic to place each stone block to create your structures is a fresh take and you feel your small town come to life brick by brick. Amazing concept designs and voice acting! Hope there's a Cataclismo 2 in the works!

Cataclismo is my new favourite tower defense game. The level of control you get on each level is my favourite feature and the game is engaging the entire way through. Great soundtrack, story and level design with an interesting world. 10/10

It's good. Campaign gets a bit repetitive with base building on every map, issue shared with most RTS. But graphics and music are very nice. Story is interesting. It doesn't overstay its welcome, don't feel like it's artificially stretched like a lot of games. All around good game.

Game has interesting art direction, but building can get tedious and frustrating. Like some CAD program from the 80's. I just burnt off a whole build cycle trying to place a housing blueprint. No indication of 'incomplete', no red lines or building outlines. but once I place it, half the buildings are shaking red, and when I recycle them, i'm low on wood. Very poorly thought out UI.

Inventive mix of classic Age of Empires with Tower defense games. It let's you only command military units (instead of having to control each builder/worker). Very satisfying atmosphere and gameplay loop with an interesting campaing, but more on the vibes than on actual history depth. Overall, a gem.

got a item that caused me to pay 100 scrap to upkeep i Dont have that much scrap so i ended up never being able to buy the warehouse. i was negative 14 production with no way of increasing it.. because i need scrap to upkeep which as soon as i produce any it gets taken away. Cards should be removable or sold for resources. made my 3 hour game completely broken. as well as some of the troops don't make it to my settlement so i don't get the bonus. I'm on night 15 with 7 upgrades.

Difficult to the point of being unfun. Why did they make an already difficult game more difficult? I want to chill and play games, not pick up a part time job studying every part of the wiki to come up with the most meta strategy. Easy uninstall.
