There is a lot to be said about this game, and while it has potential for recovery, in it's current state the game is not great for new or existing players
Balance
The balance of this game as it stands currently leaves a lot to be desired, there is far too much killpower so the games end way too quickly which screws over all the slower roles. While roles like Seer and Jailor have been overpowered since the game's launch and remain virtually unchanged while weak roles like Coroner have yet to be fixed so that they're actually useful, with town as a whole continues to be far too powerful.
This would be fine if the devs were taking steps to mitigate these issues, however, these changes come too slowly, and even if they do hit the mark, the same update generally causes more issues. For example, in the season 5 update, while Rit, Wildling, Monarch, Socialite, PM, and admirer all got well needed changes, only two of those roles is actually in a good position balance wise (Socialite & Rit) while the Neutral Apocalypse faction got buffed while already being far more powerful than the other evil factions which has only exacerbated the overall balance issues
Community and the New Player Experience
Where to start on this one, originally the game had a casual mode designed for new players to learn the game, and while not great, it somewhat worked. The Devs recently removed casual to rework it, which in of itself is fine, but when casual was readded, it was no longer a tutorial mode and instead meant for experienced players. So while the new casual is a great addition, it does nothing for helping new players and instead forces them to jump straight into the deep end.
While the newly added guide should theoretically help with this, it has a variety of issues. For one, who is looking in SETTINGS to find a guide on how to play the game, like why was it even put here??? But, even if people do find the guide, not only does it not really replace hands on experience, large chunks of information was out of date at the guide's release, combined with the keywords with have been out of date for who knows how long, the devs are basically feeding new players false information.
The Bugs
While a smaller issue, the game is riddled with bugs that have been around longer than multiple roles, like ability usage counting as spam or a RAM leak issue regarding keywords that causes even a few to start to devour your RAM or the soft word filter just not applying in whispers
Conclusion
Overall, I do not recommend paying money for any tier of the deed while the game continues to be in this state. If you do want to try the game, just use the free version, however, you will basically only roll evil because of paying players getting scrolls and the tome
Also I don't recommend interacting with the official Discord much because it's a pretty hostile environment between the ragebaiters, doxers and random bans
