A colorful and charming 3D platformer that leans heavily on nostalgia. It’s fun and simple, making it ideal for younger players or casual gaming sessions. The visuals are nice, but the gameplay is basic, the story is generic, and minor bugs can be distracting. Still, it’s worth checking out—especially on sale.

Disclaimer: I haven't played any other previous installment in the series so I will review it as it own thing. the games graphics is reminiscent to crash 4 probably because they both uses the same engine. the game is overall good; the graphics is gorgeous, the combat is satisfying but I do wish there was a proper dodge button since it difficult to fight an enemy in front of you while avoiding an incoming hit from the back. the platforming is also a mixed big, I liked the climbing, swinging, rail grinding as well as slope sliding but jumping from one platform is a bit tough, kao's jumping ability is bit awkward especially if the platforms are quick moving and/or small, the platforming is by no means broken or bad, just a lot less seamless compared to other games in the genre. however, the game does excel in the puzzle segments, without revealing too much, the gloves can be powered with certain forms energy that facilitates some very engaging puzzles. the bosses are also a high point , offering some exhilarating fights, though I do recommend you stack as many lives as you can for the first boss, the initial 3 lives is not nearly enough to beat him. in conclusion, kao the kangaroo is a decent game that combines 3D platforming with melee combat. since, this game is a reboot, you won't need any previous familiarity with series and you can jump right in. I recommend this game to practically anyone, especially the crash and spyro fans. I'm looking forward to play future installments in this series

Fun Spyro the Dragon-like gameplay but man the story and voice acting leaves a lot to be desired. Lead actor sounds like a whiny child and it's immediately grating within the first seconds of the game. The story is also a real let down too with the final boss being a "wait... that's it? that's the end of the game??" kind of thing. Despite its flaws, and some annoying hitboxes (the boomerang wants you to be exactly in front of it for it to allow use and don't get me started on the grappling hooks), I enjoyed my time with the game but with some reworkings there's the bones of something really special here. This isn't a "this game is definitely worth full price" recommend but if it's on sale you can get a good handful of fun PS2 ass platforming nostalgia hours out of it.

Fuck this stupid game. It's boring and makes you go collect these tedious crystals and then I finish the level and it doesn't save them. Fuck this game. It's an irritating, broken, uninspired piece of shit.
