As others have said (and as you can see for yourself) this is a first person puzzle platformer in the same vein as Portal and The Talos Principle. Visually, this is a good looking game and the environment reminds me of portal. It's mostly a futuristic industrial setting with some random rooms that look like parts of an office building. Most of the rooms are pretty minimalistic. Overall it's a pretty clean aesthetic. The puzzles aren't very difficult or complicated. If you've played through Portal or Talos, these will be a breeze. (But they're still fun.) Only a few of them require you to time your moves just right, but several require accurate jumps. Nothing super frustrating, though. I completed the game in about an hour. As for the puzzles themselves, most of them revolve around little energy orbs that you can shoot (in limited quantities) from your hand. You can also reclaim these orbs if they're no longer needed. There are also the staples of the genre such as killer pools of liquid, lasers, switches, and (of course!) the generic cube/box. If you're looking for a story, I'm sorry to say that you won't find it here. There's no text or dialog in the game. It's obvious that there's some sort of back story here, but they don't really put any effort into telling you what it might be. There are various office building type rooms scattered around as well as rooms that look like experiments have taken place in them, but you're really left to make up the story on your own. It's all vaguely reminiscent of Portal. All in all, I definitely recommend the game if you're into the first person puzzle genre. It's a good deal for the $0.99 I paid.

Thanks to the developer and publisher at Mechanical Boss for a really solid puzzle game for me to escape and enjoy. Eighty-nine cents. Eighty-nine cents is what i paid for this entertainment and I feel like i stole the game. Yes, to be fair, it's simply a Portal, Chromagun, Q.U.B.E. like puzzle game, and like those titles it has solid mechanics, runs fantastic, looks good and has a nice soundtrack. Again, eighty-nine cents. In the game you are equipped with a glove that has up to 5 slots for shooting a glowing orb. These orbs are used to lock, unlock the flow of energy to doors and lasers. You can also use the orbs to build platforms on what looks like oil(it's a black liquid) to traverse areas in rooms. The jumping in this game is fantastic(and required) because each jump is scary due to the fact there are no checkpoints or quick saves. And what would a puzzle game be without picking up and placing a block on a button? There are 22 rooms to solve and most are not very difficult except maybe the final two rooms where it's more tension(jumping) than the difficulty of the puzzle. The one new system SolarGun does present is when you die your glove is suspended from the ceiling with 3 lines at the point of death(Max of 3). It's a neat idea and could have been trouble if it had more weight but it easily was just a distraction in some areas where you will die a few times. Speaking of dying, there are two insane achievements for the game. One is no death and another for finishing the game in 25 minutes. Both to me would require a LOT of practice and playthroughs, a LOT. I believe i would call myself a veteran of puzzle games. I play them a lot and while SolarGun is familiar, like a lot of games today, it's always fun to revisit even if it for just a brief time. I spent close to 2.5 hours to complete the game and it's easy to recommend and an absolute steal, literally, at .89. Played the game on my MSI ApachePro 1080P max settings 60+ frames with zero problems. Positives Absolute steal for the price Solid game mechanics Looks good, ran fantastic Tense jumping Unique death idea for the genre Negatives No story

This feels, most of all, like an alpha version of The Turing Test. There are so many little problems with this game: 1) Firing orbs takes time. This removes the sense of "I click at that location, and the orb immediately hits it so I can continue on with the puzzle." Nope, the orb must somewhat slowly float over. 2) The orb doesn't fire when you click. There's a few hundreds milliseconds delay of animation of the hand, so if you click while strafing, where you end up firing WON'T be where you clicked...it'll be a few feet down the wall due to the delay. Terrible feeling. 3) Jumping puzzles based on floaty awful feeling jumping is a big problem for me. 4) Almost nothing interactive, interesting, noteworthy, or that doesn't feel copy+pasted in the environments. No environmental storytelling, nothing to pick up or collect to give you insight into what happened...this is basically just a glorified tech demo, and the tech isn't the up to snuff for the AAA competition (or even indie efforts like Antichamber, which FEELS good to play). 5) Music is AWFUL. Generic pulsating synth, OVER AND OVER AND OVER. I respect that a tiny team (one person?) made this, but that doesn't merit a positive review. I'm surprised that "Oh, but it's fifty cents!" is reason enough for some people to overlook tons of glaring gameplay and design flaws. This feels like a fancier version of a 2008 Flash game.

Interesting concept but felt poorly executed. It wasn't very fun for me. Lacked a decent tutorial and more tells/cues/better feedback on the various interactions. Learning by trial and error didn't feel worth it. Jumping was a pain. The movement and controls didn't feel very polished. Not much story so far to get me interested. Overall meh.

Solid Puzzle game. Entertained me really well for 2h. Of course it's not a Portal game but it only costs 1$ and the gameplay well thought through with a nice difficulty progression. Developers have a great first game here so I'm looking forward to their next one! P.S. Runs perfect on Linux with excellent default Steam Controller bindings.

While this is not a bad game it also isn't good. It's a nice proof of concept. The developr clearly understands the basics of game design, but this is more a prototype than it is the next Portal. Something to show a potential employer. It's decent, and if you've playerd all other good puzzle platformers on steam you are unlikelly to regret buying this one. But maybe wait untill you're done with the Portals, Antichambers, Witness', Talos Principles, Turing Tests and Qube's of the world before buying this one. Not bad, not great, just more puzzles for the puzzle aficionado. NOTE. I also played this on Linux for those interested. The Linux Native port is... well, it technically works, but it's a few versions behind the Windwos version, and given the age of the game it's going to stay that way. Played the Windows version via Proton. The game works the same, but it looks better via Proton. Framerate seems to be locked at 62fps no matter my graphics settings. For both the Linux native port and Windows via Proton versions that is. It works, and it's competently made, it just isn't something you're bound to remember having played, and asuming you like puzzles, regret having played. It just is.

Decent for a dollar. I'd say it's a cool game, a few bugs here and there, but playtime is about an hour.

Honestly a pleasant surprise for $2. Not a unique concept, but it had solid puzzles that had me thinking. The little hints of your playable character's backstory were superbly spread out and hidden. Kept my interest until the very end. I only have two complaints: one being that the jumps are a tad floaty and you can easily overshoot a jump. However this does come in handy in some cases, so I'd just get used to it; and there's a feature where when you die, there appears an arm that hangs from the ceiling where you died previously that has collision, so you can easily hit it and fall into a laser field. You can shoot them down, however, but it will affect cube placement on the ground. Overall I'd say that I feel like I underpaid for this game. Give it your time and you will not regret it.

As the developers and other users said, this is a first-person puzzle game in a similar fashion of others like Portal. It takes place in a aseptic factory/office where the player has to solve puzzles of increasing difficulty to advance. PROS

Good gameplay overall with no glitches nor bugs. Good control of the character movements. Intuitive and minimalist gameplay based on an solid mechanic of "solar orbs" that activate/deactivate elements from a distance.
Good puzzle difficulty. First puzzles are a piece of cake for anyone who has played a similar game before but let you get familiar with the game mechanics, while the last ones might require you to think or try-and-error a little without being really hard.
Nice match of minimalist scenario and ambient music (this one also changes when you begin a puzzle). There are even some little Easter eggs placed in the corridors between puzzles.
Ridiculously low price (just 1$/€).
CONS

Lack of any storyline, dialogues and final objective (apart from beating the puzzles), although the player can deduce some of the story watching the scenario.
Short (between 1h-2h of gameplay the first time depending on player skill) as some other similar games of the genre. You might give it a second round in order to collect the achievements and/or attempt the speedrun.
SUMMARY This game is very correct for being an indie game. The gameplay, puzzles, scenario, music and graphic quality are very good without being astonishing or incredibly original, providing a nice experience that could be a little better with a storyline. Furthermore, the incredibly low price makes playing this game a nice and enjoyable option.

I tend not to like puzzle games that much, but I quite enjoy Solargun. I enjoy the puzzles lot, with the mechanics being interesting and intuitive. The developers also spend the a large amount of time making the lab feel like it was actually used, which I really like. A large number of the puzzles can be quite challenging and require some platforming skill. However, the platforming can be problematic at times, which is a shame. The character you control is feels rather heavy, meaning you carry a large amount of momentum. While not itself problematic, it makes air control difficult, making precision platforming a pain at time. Another part that can be annoying is the death marker, which while funny because of the whole "save the equipment, not the person" joke, they can easily get in the way of platforming because they are physical objects. There are also some other small complaints, such as lack of options in the settings, (sensitivity, keybindings, resolutions) and the artstyle making stuff look fuzzy. Overall, I enjoy it quite a bit. I think all of the puzzles are fun and unique, the lab an interesting place and the mechanics of the Solar Gun well implemented. The vast majority of the problems are fairly minor and can be overlooked, even though the physics can be annoying at times. So, if you like puzzle games and have some spare change in your steam wallet, I would definetly pick this up, because it is worth every penny. 7/10 Good

Uninteresting, easy, poorly-designed puzzles in addition to frustrating controls and questionable decisions. The Turing Test is the same design but much better. Nobody could call it overpriced, but it wasn't worth my time and it's probably not worth yours.

I have two of the "Year" levels left, and I don't think I'm going to finish it, but I've certainly played enough to warrant a review. While I did enjoy the game in general, I'm going to have to say "Not Recommended" because some parts were fun, but many more were unbelievably frustrating. While the description claims this is "a first person puzzle game", and the image says "Short Puzzle Platformer", it is much, much more platformer than puzzle. There are several areas where you deal with alternating lasers, and it requires very precise timing and jumping to jump over the lasers. The bigger problem, however, is that jumping feels somewhat floaty, and most of the game requires extremely precise jumping (precise in terms of where you land and in terms of timing your jump perfectly because the gaps to be crossed require the maximum jumping distance). While each level is short, if you are not a pro at platforming, you will likely die many times, and replaying the same 60 seconds over and over again because you didn't get a jump just right is not fun. If you're looking for a puzzle game, I would generally say pass on this one. If you're looking for a platformer, I'd say pass. If you're looking for a simple puzzle game with lots of jumping and precision timing required, and you're willing to accept a high difficulty because of the timing and jumping, I'd say give it a try. I just finished the game, and there's another reason not to recommend it for achievement completionists -- the "Thanks for playing" achievement for completing the game didn't trigger.

Well. I would like to say that SolarGun is just one of my favorite puzzle games on Steam. I played all portal games and many similar games with different mechanics and gameplay (like Qube, Chromagun and more), but this one is my favorite. The main aesthetic is gorgeous - a great unlit material with an ambient occlusion FX. The music is quiet (I love Chopin Funeral March). What about controls? All is smooth and perfect. The main gameplay is unusual and really clever. Thank you for the free content. This team did an amazing work. If you don't try this project, I guess that you are stupid - it is worth 10 times its price - less than one buck ++

I am 32 years old. My ex-wife and I have a daughter together, and we adopted our son together. Both are now 4 years old. When we were going through our separation, I felt lost and unhappy. I was self-destructive. One day, I was so angry with everything spiraling out of control that I punched a concrete wall in a moment of overwhelming emotion. This resulted in breaking my fifth metacarpal in my right hand—the hand I worked with, played games with, and used to carry my children to bed—the hand I desperately needed to ensure I could continue providing. Upon learning the severity of the self-inflicted damage, I became almost suicidal. Keep in mind that just a few months before this, I was the happiest man, with no history of depression or anxiety. I had never experienced anger outbursts, nor was I the type to break down and cry, but I was in a tough situation that truly prevented me from seeing the light on the other side. With nothing better to do, I looked for a game I could play WITH ONE HAND while recovering. Somehow, I stumbled upon this game and read some of the comments. I decided it was worth a try... I must admit I didn't beat the game, nor did I play as much as some of you. In fact, I may have played this game for only a day or two. That being said, after doing so, I had a new joy and hope for life. I managed to leave behind the pain and suffering that had been thrust upon me. I could experience the joy and happiness of other people. I relaxed for 5 ♥♥♥♥ minutes listening to this music, long enough to realize that I would be okay. After realizing this, I turned off the game and went back to work. My hand hurt a lot, but I was motivated. I stopped feeling so sorry for myself and became the father I needed to be at that moment, not the weak boy I was behaving like. Today, I am close friends with the mother of my children. We don't fight, argue, or say hurtful things to each other. We are parents and friends. Now I have 3 children. My third child is, wait, ALSO 4 YEARS OLD. The woman I am with was going through a very similar situation at the time of my separation, and we just unexpectedly stumbled into each other's lives. We have been dating for a year and are very happy together. Moral of the story: you never know what life has in store for you, and if I had given up when all odds were against me, I wouldn't be where I am today. This silly little game helped me realize that. Thank you.
