Mafia 2
I have way too much nostalgia and love for this game to be anywhere near objective. I played the demo on PS3 like almost 15 years ago, I believe. Then made my first full playthrough on a crappy old-ass laptop in 2014 (40 fps maximum, baby). And now, replaying & 100%-ing it in 2025 feels kinda special to me. What is Mafia 2 like, for somebody who hasn’t played it yet? I don’t know — I can only tell you 'bout my experience. I’ve encountered a few glitches that were fixable pretty quickly, but it was annoying nonetheless. The game has an incredible charm. I believe it aged quite well. The story is good, and a handful of characters are iconic and/or lovable. The graphics are also kinda unbelievably good for a game that released in 2010 (and remember, I’m talking 'bout the classic version — not the BS they sell us as the “Definitive Edition”). And btw, can we talk about how genius it is to put goddamn Playboy magazines as collectibles in a game? All in all, Mafia 2 is definitely a game I would still recommend playing, even 15 years after release. I still have hope that someday 2K will give it the real “Definitive” treatment (like they did with Mafia 1) — the one it actually deserves. In that futuristic scenario, I’ll be happily playing "Mafia 2: The real Definitive Edition" in 2035.
Joe’s Adventures
This DLC is a bit of a mixed bag. You get to play as Joe Barbaro, which sounds great, especially after finishing the main game — but the actual structure is more like a disconnected mission pack than a true story continuation. Despite there beeing a couple of cutscenes, the story remains shallow. It feels like they wanted to tell something bigger, but ran out of time or budget. Some missions are fun and challenging, but most of them follow the same formula: Go here — shoot this — drive there — escape — done. Still, it has some cool moments, and Joe is theoretically an entertaining character to play as. If you liked the base game and want more, it's worth a try — but don’t expect anything close to the emotional depth or polish of the main story.
Jimmy’s Vendetta & Jimmy’s Betrayal
You can honestly skip both of these — unless you're achievement hunting like I was. They’re very similar to Joe’s Adventures in structure, but without even trying to connect to the main story. It’s basically just random side quests with a generic, silent, forgettable character named Jimmy. The missions can be fun for a while, but there’s no story, no context, no cutscenes — just driving, shooting, time limits, and scoreboards. Feels more like an arcade mode than actual Mafia content. Unless you're a completionist, you're better off ignoring these two DLCs.

It's an amazing game, love the gameplay and story. Great soundtrack and doesn't need a gaming computer to run. I'd reccomend buying it on sale because it has 80% off sales about every month or so.

Mafia II is my favorite game—not just in the series, but in the entire gaming industry. The first time I played it was on PlayStation 3 over a decade ago, and from that day on, I fell in love with it. It’s a unique game, with a cinematic story, great characters, incredible immersion, mechanics that were ahead of their time, and so much more that makes Mafia II a cult classic. Yet, to my deepest disappointment, the game is broken. I played the original version on PS3, the "remastered" version released for PS4, and that same version on PC. But when I tried to relive the nostalgia with the "Classic" edition of Mafia II, I was horrified. While it includes all the original content, in terms of performance, it feels like they made it worse—much worse. To start, it took me forever just to get it to launch. Then, when I began my playthrough, the game simply crashed. I had to restart it. After another attempt, I made it to Chapter 2, only for it to crash again during a calm cutscene. One final try led to a glitch where everything moved in slow motion, forcing me to reset my progress yet again. So, I had to give up. Mafia II is my favorite game. Even though it’s now in the hands of those who care little for the integrity of the series—let alone the original studio’s legacy—it’s a game I’ve played countless times, 100% completed multiple times, and one that left a lasting mark on me. It’s the game I always recommend to friends, the one I remember most fondly, the game whose protagonist inspired my nickname: Scaletta. But seeing it in such a neglected state today breaks my heart. It saddens me deeply—not just because reliving the original experience means dusting off my PS3, but because new players trying this "Classic" version might encounter a butchered game, mistreated by a studio that couldn’t care less about the origins of the series they’re now tarnishing. I’ll just add this: If it weren’t for the fact that so many of us—myself included—can’t even play it properly, I’d wholeheartedly recommend exploring this masterpiece.

PLEASE AVOID THIS GAME AT ALL COSTS!!! This is coming from a person who 100%d this game and invested in a lot of time through pain and suffering. - Is this a bad game? Nope, but it was mediocre. If you are itching for something like GTA, this is probably it. So why you shouldn't buy? Two reasons. Reason #1: This is a buggy AF version. I haven't tried yet but maybe definitive is better. You fall to sky out of nowhere, randomly exe glitching, save problems, memory related stuff it is all there. Since AAA devs are scammers and don't care about anything after the product is sold, you as always rely on community and mods to fix it. Oh btw speaking of mods follow my reason 2. Reason #2: In case you missed the review explaining why 2K is a spyware company and injecting viruses and other means of malware into your kernel and steal your private information. Here we go detailed explanation I copied from the original reviewer why you should definitely avoid this game at all costs and any other products of 2K: Take-Two and 2K games have updated all their games Terms of Service, turning this game as well as all of their other games into literal spyware. Important Info in Terms of Service: • Mods are a bannable offense • Display of Cheats/Exploits is bannable • Forced arbitration clause and a waiver of class action and jury trial rights for all users residing in the United States and any other territory other than Australia, Switzerland, The United Kingdom, or The Territories of The European Economic Area • You can be banned for using a VPN while connecting to online servers • Cannot access game content on a Virtual PC Collected Data Types: • Identifiers / Contact Information: Name, user name, gamertag, postal and email address, phone number, unique IDs, mobile device ID, platform ID, gaming service ID, advertising ID (IDFA, Android ID) and IP address • Protected Characteristics: Age and gender • Commercial Information: Purchase and usage history and preferences, including gameplay information • Billing Information: Payment information (credit / debit card information) and shipping address • Internet / Electronic Activity: Web / app browsing and gameplay information related to the Services; information about your online interaction(s) with the Services or our advertising; and details about the games and platforms you use and other information related to installed applications • Device and Usage Data: Device type, software and hardware details, language settings, browser type and version, operating system, and information about how users use and interact with the Services (e.g., content viewed, pages visited, clicks, scrolls) • Profile Inferences: Inferences made from your information and web activity to help create a personalized profile so we can identify goods and services that may be of interest • Audio / Visual Information: Account photos, images, and avatars, audio information via chat features and functionality, and gameplay recordings and video footage (such as when you participate in playtesting) • Sensitive Information: Precise location information (if you allow the Services to collect your location), account credentials (user name and password), and contents of communications via chat features and functionality So; after all this you might be asking why I got this in the first place; well I got this on a summer/winter sale sometime in 2020 or 2021. It has been sitting in my library alongside with many other games collecting dust and increasing my evergrowing backlog. Back then they weren't this evil so I didn't mind supporting them. Look, I play my games on an isolated PC where I don't have any private info stored. PC is just for playing steam games and that is it. So those woke freaks CANNOT reach my wife's or/and my daughter's videos & pictures and sell them to a data broker in China, India, Russia and Iran or even worse DHS. If you value yourself and your privacy DO NOT EVER buy anything from 2K and any other demonic woke corporations like 2K such as Microsoft, Activision, Bethesda, CDPR etc. There's a good saying on the internet starts with "If buying isn't owning..." you might consider doing the rest. These demons should go bankrupt after all the illegal activity they have done. Their CEO was busted in a medieval themed restaurant with a USB full of illegal data on him. Think about it! There is a remastered version of the game as well and since I already own it and it is non-refundable, I will play that one as well and revise another review but as long as this malware spy company continuous their hideous actions I will keep warning people.

Don't even bother. First mission was fine, second mission, after the cut scene with Joey, it did a lot of black screens then crashed. Loaded it back up, it was fine. In the same mission, you get the cops on you and the game slows almost to a freeze. Its a known bug that is impossible to get around. Tried changing to 60 hz, tried reducing CPUs, tried uninstalling, tried everything. Wasted over an hour of my life.

The Definitive Edition is a complete failure. Don't bother trying to fix it, it's unfixable. Classic works for a while, then stops. I'm at a point where cars only drive backwards, which locks me out of the rest of the story, and I'm maybe halfway through. Wish I hadn't wasted my money on this abandonware.

Mafia II captures the essence of the classic gangster story with a stylish, character-driven narrative set against the backdrop of post-war America. Unlike its predecessor’s focus on 1930s organized crime, this installment transports players to the 1940s and ‘50s, immersing them in a world of ambition, loyalty, and the American Dream gone sideways. The story follows Vito Scaletta, a young war veteran trying to escape poverty and make his mark in the Mafia underworld. What sets Mafia II apart is its strong emphasis on characters and relationships. Vito’s journey isn’t just about crime — it’s about friendship, betrayal, and the consequences of choices in a morally gray world. The writing and voice acting bring the characters to life in a way that feels genuine and sometimes painfully human. Visually, for its time, Mafia II was impressive. The city of Empire Bay is richly detailed, with diverse neighborhoods, period-accurate cars, and a killer soundtrack that perfectly captures the era’s mood. The attention to detail helps you feel like you’re really living in a mid-century metropolis. Gameplay-wise, the game offers a solid mix of driving, shooting, and exploration. Combat can feel a bit scripted and linear, but the variety of missions — from high-speed chases to tense shootouts — keeps things engaging. The cover system and gunplay mechanics were a step forward at the time, though they may feel a bit dated now. Some players might find the pacing uneven, with slow stretches between action-packed moments, and the open world is more constrained compared to other sandbox games. However, the strong narrative and cinematic presentation make up for these flaws. Bottom line: Mafia II is a compelling crime drama wrapped in a stylish period package. It’s a must-play for fans of story-rich games who appreciate mood, character, and atmosphere over pure sandbox freedom. Despite its flaws, it remains a memorable and emotionally resonant chapter in the Mafia series. Rating: 8/10

Best of the best! You can’t find a better, more atmospheric, funnier game with such charismatic characters, with such an unmatched history and gameplay. Even the sounds are perfect in this game. But what’s really gives me some indescribable feelings is the music - it’s crazy good. Just imagine yourself driving around snowy New York, listening to the hits of 40s, killing and robbing people, then getting yourself into prison, fighting with some Chinese dudes there, and finally getting released from the prison! After you being released from the prison you will find yourself in what it seems like the whole new world with cabriolets, even more guns and possibilities to rob and kill. And it’s not freaking winter anymore - it’s summer, the war is over and everything is shining and blooming, Joe’s got a new car, new design of his flat and is about to introduce you to some new people that you will kill eventually. 5/5 Completed this game more than 20 times when I was a kid, and will do it again and again! Hell yeah🤘🤘🤘🤘

WARNING: Before You Buy Mafia II Mafia II is a narrative-driven third-person action game that delivers a focused, cinematic experience set in the gritty, post-war streets of Empire Bay. With its sharp writing, authentic 1940s–50s atmosphere, and well-paced mission design, it stands out as one of the more memorable crime dramas in gaming. While not without flaws, its strengths far outweigh its shortcomings—provided you know what to expect going in. The most notable issue players may encounter is the game’s tendency to crash at random. While not constant or game-breaking, it happens enough to be frustrating. Other technical problems include occasional stuttering, inconsistent frame rates (particularly in the Definitive Edition), audio bugs, and rare AI glitches during missions. Additionally, the open world can feel empty, with minimal side content or interactivity—something that may disappoint players expecting a more sandbox-style experience. Fortunately, none of these issues seriously impact the strength of the main story or mission design. What Mafia II does best is storytelling. The game follows Vito Scaletta’s journey through the criminal underworld with missions that are varied, tightly designed, and always purposeful. Each one contributes meaningfully to the story, making you feel like you're climbing the ranks in a dangerous, morally grey world. The voice acting, characters, and cinematic presentation all enhance the feeling of being in a grounded, believable mob narrative. The game world of Empire Bay isn't filled with endless side activities, but it doesn't need to be. The focus remains on narrative and atmosphere, and in that area, Mafia II excels. The attention to period detail—from cars and fashion to music and dialogue—makes the setting feel alive and immersive. The downloadable content is also worth mentioning. Joe’s Adventures is a standout, adding context to the main story and expanding on a fan-favourite character. It blends meaningful narrative content with fun, action-driven missions. Jimmy’s Vendetta, on the other hand, takes a more arcade-style approach, offering score-based missions through a different lens. While it’s lighter on story, it provides a solid change of pace. Mafia II is a focused and stylish crime drama that prioritises strong storytelling and atmosphere over open-world excess. It’s a game that knows what it wants to be and delivers it with confidence. If you value narrative depth and cinematic presentation, it’s well worth your time—just be mindful of its technical limitations going in.
Mafia II (Classic) – 100% Completion Review
All achievements earned, every wanted poster and Playboy magazine collected, all story missions completed on Hard difficulty Mafia II is not an open-world game. It is a linear crime drama wearing the clothes of one. Completing it fully shows just how tightly focused the experience really is, and how rare that kind of storytelling restraint has become. You play as Vito Scaletta, a returning war veteran climbing the ranks of Empire Bay’s criminal underworld. The story is character-driven, cinematic, and told with a sense of grounded fatalism. There is no empire to build, no rackets to manage. Just bad decisions, tighter corners, and loyalty that does not always go both ways. The world is beautiful, but mostly decorative. Empire Bay is richly detailed, with changing seasons, era-specific cars, and an excellent licensed soundtrack. But it is not interactive. Side activities are minimal. A 100 percent run means tracking down every collectible, and while they are well-hidden, they offer more nostalgia than reward. Combat and driving are solid, if unspectacular. Gunfights are cover-based and weighty. Driving is slow and simulation-leaning, which fits the tone but can frustrate modern players. Police responses are consistent, but rarely a real threat. What shines brightest is the presentation. The cutscenes, voice work, and soundtrack carry the story through its rougher mechanical edges.

Timeless classic! A brutal look into the American dream going wrong...but told through the lens of a very unique character, who's so charismatic you can't help but love him, despite being the most "evil" protagonist in the series. I never saw a mafia story in which the main character doesn't feel any regret for his actions and doesn't try to sneak a story about morals. Vito is all about this criminal lifestyle until the end. It's all he ever knew.. I find myself coming back to this game every few years. It's really something special.. Many people wish it got the same treatment as Mafia Definitive Edition but me personally I'm hesitant about that because how do you remake something that's already perfect? 10/10

15fps and multiple crashes after only 1 hour of gameplay i tried to find videos on how to fix the issue but didnt find any that did anything. i have to use fg and 1080p and i still get 30-40fps there is also a bug that puts the game in slow mo, the solution is easy but you will need the beefiest single-core performance cpu as this requires to disable all other cores except 1 of them. Cpu : 5 5600 Gpu : 6750xt Ram : 2x8gb 3200mhz i bought the trilogy bundle so i assume the definitive edition will not crash and perfom like shit
