I absolutely loved LiS 1. BtS and Captain Spirit were nice prequels that I appreciate. LiS 2 completely blew me away in every way and subsequently managed to beat LiS as my favourite game in the franchise. It was very obvious to me almost immediately that True Colours wasn't developed by Don't Nod--overall that game is a mixed bag. Double Exposure is a downright insult to LiS 1 and the legacy Don't Nod created. (And no, I'm not a Pricefield meat rider--I thought they were better as friends and Chloe's absence is actually one of the less important issues of this game.) I actually can't believe this game exists, it takes everything that makes a LiS game special and throws it out the window. SPOILERS AHEAD After what happened in LiS 1, Max should never have wanted to use her powers again, it doesn't matter if you sacrificed the bay or Chloe. Obviously she should want to avoid a repeat of that at all costs, but no, when she finds Safi's body, she's like "if I could rewind and save you, I would" like ???????? Hello???? Max???? Did you just forget EVERYTHING that happened???? It is LITERALLY the SAME situation as Chloe, so Max KNOWS what the consequences of saving Safi would be, does she want another storm???? And yes, for everyone who chose to sacrifice the bay, Chloe "Max, I'll always be with you, forever" Price left Max. Yeah, because that makes sense. But they wanted to bring Max back, so we have to retcon that ending as well I guess. Even if you ignore that fact, Double Exposure still doesn't make sense if you sacrificed the bay. Unless of course you're implying that Max would just continue to rewind time to save all her friends any time something happened to them and just let every town she did so in get destroyed by another storm before she just moved onto the next???? That's so stupid, but apparently Max just doesn't care about what she KNOWS will happen if she messes with time. This idea is pushed even further when Max just refuses to shoot Safi and they go into the storm. But apparently the storm in Caledon was a light breeze because it barely did any damage in the end at all? And everyone survived? I literally don't understand this, it makes no sense and completely undermines the point of the storm in LiS 1. Also, that whole nightmare sequence doesn't make sense. Apparently it wasn't even a nightmare, but ACTUALLY happening, even though that's not what it was in the first game. In this game, Max implied that the storm is what caused that, but that isn't accurate. The nightmare sequence in the first game was caused by her messing with time, and it wasn't actually happening. It was just that: A NIGHTMARE. In DE, it all felt like a cheap attempt to try and imitate that scene from the first game, but this one just felt lazy and pointless. Especially since Max just gets off scot-free at the end, since the storm does nothing and then just disappears. I didn't think it could get worse, but then we got that joke of an ending. In my opinion, one of the things True Colours lacked was ending diversity, it's all pretty much the same. This game takes it even further, player choice literally doesn't matter at all. Nothing matters, since the story always leads to one point, and it's not even an ending, it's a setup for a sequel. That's terrifying, because I could see what they were trying to do by that point--what I could subtly feel the game turning into when they first revealed that Safi has powers: Some sort of Avengers initiative. D9 have completely missed the point of what a LiS game is meant to be. It isn't about the powers, it's about the PEOPLE. Ordinary people who get thrust into strange situations, with a little hint of supernatural on the side. The focus shouldn't be on the powers, it should be on the situations brought forth from said powers and how the characters navigate through that (as LiS 1 and 2 did). But no, now suddenly Max isn't the only powered-person in this game, and they plan on bringing them all together. Only the protagonist (or one of the protagonists e.g. Daniel) in a LiS game should have powers. When you introduce others, it takes away the story and turns it into something else. For the first three chapters I couldn't find a single reason beyond blatant cash grab as to why they brought Max back as the protagonist, and the last two chapters just completely destroyed LiS 1's story and the LiS universe as a whole. On top of this, all the characters are incredibly boring and forgettable and Safi has nowhere near enough screen time given how important she is to the story. She basically does nothing for the first 3 chapters and then when she actually becomes involved, I'm suddenly supposed to care for her the same way I cared for Chloe? They also tried to make Maya Okada the new Rachel Amber, but without any of the interesting parts. They pretty much just slap her, Safi, and all the characters in your face and expect you to suddenly form some connection with them. Also, one of MY biggest issues: I hate the way D9 formats their LiS games. With Don't Nod, it really felt like they were telling a story episode by episode, which made every episode impactful, beautiful, and left you wanting more. It feels like D9 just made the whole story at once, and then went back and randomly cut it up into 5 parts without even trying to make each beginning or ending impactful. There's often no music, no end credits, and no cinematic scenes. Just boring cut offs that they expect you to ignore (this includes True Colours). Just remove one of the best parts of the LiS franchise, I guess. And what ever happened to the cool evolving menu screens? D9 made BtS, and that game actually felt faithful to LiS 1, so I'm confused as to why they decided to be completely unfaithful going forward after that. I joined the franchise very late (played the first game last year) but apparently people have always wanted a direct sequel to LiS 1??? And everyone thought LiS 2 was terrible????? Ya'll deserve to step on lego for those opinions, because they have definitely played a part in D9 pushing out this steaming pile of trash. A direct sequel to the first game could NEVER work, because there's no point. The story ended there. Don't Nod literally said they thought Max's story was complete, so bringing her back could only do harm. LiS 2 was a perfect break off from the story of the first game while still entirely capturing the magic I felt playing it. But no, apparently everyone just wanted more Max and Chloe and so LiS 2 didn't perform well enough to make Square Enix happy and then they demanded the franchise "return to its roots" or some shit. Delusional request actually. LiS 2 WAS the perfect sequel to the first game. You got insight into some of the characters 3 years after what happened (even Max and Chloe if you chose the sacrifice bay ending) without undermining their story at all or feeling forced or taking away from the new story being told. People should have been happy with that, but now it's too late and LiS 1 has been ruined. I can only hope that DE's numbers were so abysmal that they just scrap the moronic idea of the sequel that they threatened us with. Because if not, I fear they'll just throw everything away (even more than they already have) for this stupid Avengers idea. And I'm 90% sure that would include trying to bring back Daniel and Alex, which would just screw over the story of those games as well. TLDR: This game is a blatant cash grab that destroys Don't Nod's legacy while simultaneously pretty much ruining any chance at another decent LiS game in the future. LiS 2 is criminally underrated and I'll never forgive everyone who shit on it and asked for a direct LiS 1 sequel because they definitely contributed to this. If ya'll want a good LiS-like game just go play Don't Nod's Lost Records: Bloom & Rage. Lowkey hit the max word limit l so I gotta stop here. Anyway, at the end of the day, this is only my opinion.

Don't you love it when a choice based game has no meaningful choices because this is just setting up some sequel avengers game or whatever deck nine is making with this franchise. I was so happy for Max to return..only for it to be Max's appearance but everything else is..it's not her.

I've grown up since the first game released, but the main character clearly hasn't. The game drags you through the protagonist's frustratingly poor decisions, forcing choices between equally dumb outcomes—it's not even a matter of choosing the lesser evil, just varying degrees of stupidity. The puzzles are decent, and experimenting with the powers is somewhat enjoyable. However, the characters are annoying and constantly behave as if they're stuck in a high school drama. Ultimately, I couldn't bring myself to finish the game.

Was it a decent game? Yes. Was it as good as earlier LiS games? No. While the story is engaging, it didn't feel very fulfilling. For a choices matter-game, choices seemed to have very little effect on the game other than some dialogue changes. It feels like this whole game was to create a build-up that will eventually bring together story lines of the LiS franchise, meaning it needed to end in a certain way and you have very little power to affect it.

Definitely not my favorite Life is Strange game, but it is better than a lot give it credit for. The biggest strength was bringing Max back as a protagonist along with a new place and setting. I also did find the new characters interesting. I do miss the older ones from the first game but it's not that big of a deal. Neither ending from the first Life is Strange is officially canon and you decide which one in that opening conversation with Safi and the freedom to explore both paths is pretty cool. I did feel a lot of the choices in this one were inconsequential but it doesn't detract from the overall enjoyment. I hope they make another one because I am interested to see where it goes from here.

I'll start by saying that I'm 100% biased. I played the original LiS at a very dark time in my life, and I'm very emotionally attached to the original cast. That being said, is this game exactly what I wanted? No, it simply isn't. But that's ok, life is not a path of roses, sometimes shit just sucks, and this franchise is really good at showing that, even if it's a let down sometimes. I'm glad I didn't believe the drama around this game and gave it an honest, blind shot. That was good 14 hours. Tbh I'm just glad I got an update on Max. It genuinely felt like catching up with that one highschool friend you haven't seen in years

I cannot believe I just wasted my time like that. This game was so good... until the ending? How did you even manage that? Bro all you had to do was do a murder mystery instead of convolution the story line without finishing a single sentence to get the story straight. I love LiS but what the actual frogs-born is this?

The story starts out pretty normal, but it destroys the previous game's history. As time goes on, the story gets stupid, forgets what their goal was and just wants to end. The graphics may decieve you into thinking it's good, but the blur is attrocious. Don't nod, if they make another game, please come back

1 - Is literally every single person in this game gay? (it just feels kind of ridiculous) 2 - Max kinda sucks ass now I guess 3 - So many holes in this shite story. So, many things that made no sense. 4 - This game doesn't make you feel anything except frustrated, annoyed, and hurried... hurried for it to end.

Quick version: 8/10 I always love Don't Nod's style of Narrative Games. A couple of characters didn't gel with me, but overall really liked them. Aesthetics were immaculate. Detailed version: Don't Nod really delivers games that take the cinematic feel of watching a movie and blend just enough agency, puzzles and little interactions to elevate it through the medium of gaming. As the story ramps up the mysteries and interpersonal connections that emerge and shift are logical and engaging. There's one character that I always felt like I had the wrong interactions with, and that character ended up with an after-credits scene which felt off to me. The rest of the cast resonated cleanly with my expectations, but still kept me interested to learn more about them. As for the aesthetics, I just love the style that these games ooze with. The camera work, the effects, the ambiance, the ability to sit with your thoughts and listen to music; it all creates a space where you feel like you're immersed in the world. It also gives you this sense that there's nothing forcing you down a path or hurrying you up. You can just take the journey at your own pace. It's not a game for everyone, but for people that love interactive narrative experiences it's a great one.

I don't generally review games, even if I like them. However, something about Life is Strange: Double Exposure inspired me to share my thoughts. I really love this game. It was very engaging throughout the who story. Chapters 4 and 5 was a little difficult to follow though. I'm wondering if it would have been better to hear what the professor said to Safi because I didn't really know what her mother did that made her compelled to shoot her. I would've understood the gravity of Safi's feelings better if the story had us there for that conversation. I also didn't really understand how Safi was able to connect with everyone and split their brains. May the story just needed a little more time to flesh out how her powers expanded and how she felt about the characters.

I love all the Life Is Strange games and was excited when Double Exposure was announced as it was about Max, but if Max was not the main character in this game it would not have made a difference to the game itself which feels weird to me. And the story itself lacked depth as did the characters. The love interests, especially Amanda were just there to be love interests and it felt forced, my decisions in the game did not make much of a difference, it felt pretty lazy in my opinion. One of my favourite things about the LIS games is the emotion within the stories, while playing this game I literally felt nothing because I had zero attachment to the characters. I would not say the twist was predictable but it also was not surprising. The other LIS games typically have more of a main antagonise but this just felt like the universe was messing with you and gave us zero answers. My objectives felt pointless, like I had to "find person" every scene then it would play a boring conversation cutscene that I honestly zoned out of, and after a scene there would be a bunch of texts or posts that never added much to the story. I think the next game is going to give us a bunch of lore about why these characters have powers and such, I just hope they spend more time on making the story interesting and emotional.

When I first saw the trailer for Life is Strange: Double Exposure and realized Max was returning, I was genuinely excited. A lot of fans were too — she’s a beloved character, and seeing her again brought back great memories from the original game. That said, I had some issues with how this game handled its themes and characters. I don’t have a problem with gay people — that’s not what this is about. But in Double Exposure, it felt like the game was overly focused on identity politics, especially in how often it emphasized a character’s sexuality. It came across as forced rather than natural. Earlier Life is Strange games included gay characters in a more subtle and story-driven way that didn’t feel like it was constantly trying to make a point. Max is still a great character — beautiful, iconic, and important to the series. But the way her powers were brought back just didn’t make sense to me. The storyline felt weak and didn’t respect the original game's emotional depth. The new characters didn’t really stand out either. Most of them felt dull, awkward, or just hard to care about. And one of the biggest letdowns was that, no matter what choices you make, it feels like they don’t actually affect the story. That goes completely against what made Life is Strange so impactful in the first place. Bringing Max back was a strong decision, but the overall story, writing, and character development just didn’t deliver. And the DLC? Honestly, it felt more like a cash grab than anything meaningful or worthwhile. In the end, Life is Strange: Double Exposure had real potential, but it missed the mark.

Fun continuation of Max's story. The new characters, new location, new concepts, and new mechanics breath fresh air into the game, rather than simply repeating the earlier game. Would have liked the game-play to have been a bit more challenging.

Honestly, there's absolutely nothing bad I can say about Life is Strange: Double Exposure! We get Max back, which was amazing, and she comes with fantastic new powers that really shake things up. Each and every part of the story kept me completely engrossed; I found myself playing sometimes well into the night because I just couldn't put it down. The narrative truly stood out, drawing me deeper into its mystery. My only real issue, if I had to pick one, is that it felt a bit short—I finished the main story in about 10 hours, and I just wanted more! The core mechanic of shifting between two timelines to solve the murder, piece together the story, and get to the bottom of everything was just phenomenal. What more can I say? It was an absolutely fantastic and brilliant new way to play. Life is Strange: Double Exposure is a triumphant return for Max and a truly captivating experience from start to finish.

its no where near as special as LiS 1 or bts, but its also not nearly as bad as other reviewers say it is. is it incredibly stripped back ? absolutely. does it make way too many (and unneeded) call backs to the previous games ? most certainly. does the sequel bait suck ? hell yes. however, i'd be lying if i didn't say i had a really good time playing it. visuals were beyond gorgeous, max's new power was fun to toy around with, and the characters were fun enough to learn about and interact with (moses, gwen, and amanda are my besties) tldr; worth full price ? no way in hell lmao. if its on sale however, it'll do good as a fun little one and done adventure.

I have been playing the life is strange games since the first game released in 2015. I have followed this series and played through it all.. I loved each game that released more than the last with the exception of the first game. The first game will always hold a special place in my heart. True colors was a BANGER and i loved that just as much as the first game... but this? Double exposure? it gave me some closure and it seems to be working towards bringing ALL of the games together. I very much enjoyed this game and took in all the beautiful scenery, the script, the cast, the characters and all the small details they added to this game to truly make it special. I don't write many reviews for games but this one felt deserved. If you liked any of the life is strange games without comparing it to the 1st game... YOU WILL love this game. They are all amazing in their own ways. The ending for this game left us without 100% closure and with a hint at them having Max in their next game! I am very excited for the next game and you best believe i will buy it the second you can preorder it. This game was fantastic, even with its differences from the other games, the quirks and the little bugs. Its worth the buy and i will be telling anyone who will listen about the story of this series and get them to play it and see for themselves. This game holds a special place in my heart and they are giving this story justice. Max Caulfield is a total badass and the twists in this game kept me hooked.

So much disdain shown towards this game, why? Choices aren't as extreme across the board and actually flow well within the contexts of the game. I loved Bay vs Bae as a concept but being honest it should never have come to that at that point. This is still LiS and still a very good game series.

Wont be buying any more DontNod games, was not a complete game, I wont even be buying the second, screw it, this ending will be it for me. Bye Max, you died a long long time ago, Chloe's better anyway. Life is strange before the storm for the win, ugh imagine them making it these days, pffft probably split it in to 2 parts. As for the remasters, what a waste, I reckon they look simply beautiful as is, and dont need changing so, ya know, w/e. Heh. Mmmm these graphics were better? oh okay, btw 4080 super 16gb fyi. I have all the others on playstation, and one on xbox, dontnod games I mean, and tell me why is the worst, followed by this, then the rest are actually good. That leaves, 1, 1.5, 2, Tru colours. My ranked order would go, 1.5 Before the storm. 1 The Storm then True or 2? hmmm Ah who cares about which is 3rd anyway.

At its core, Double Exposure is a classic Life is Strange story that has hard hitting emotional scenes, memorable characters, and in my opinion a powerful continuation of Max's story from the first game. What I really enjoyed about the story was the Max's constant struggle with lingering trauma from what she experienced before, and how it shaped her interactions and helped her tackle things head on after running away for too long. It was surreal at first getting into this game and finally seeing how Max has changed and the new life she found at Caledon. The key mechanic of switching between worlds is pretty neat, though I wish it used in more puzzles at the end like during the first few chapters. It seems there wasn't enough in the concept to create anything more challenging than "find a place to switch and switch back" so they opted to not really use it in a meaningful way by the ending, which is a shame, but that's kind of just the limitation of this mechanic and I appreciate that the story works well with it. The character animation, particularly in the faces, is incredible. It truly does rival a AAA game in that regard, the characters are so expressive and dynamic and well designed that every dialogue scene is majorly boosted by the quality of the cinematics. The music is also spot on and a reflection of the original soundtrack in a way, which made many of the "reflection" moments hit pretty hard. Spoilers ahead:
Absolutely bizarre to go to the reviews and see that everyone was expecting Chloe to come back in some major way. None of the marketing suggested the old characters would be returning and the fans of the first game don't "own" Max's future. The story they wanted to tell has Max go through a rough patch and find a new home in Caledon, and that's much more meaningful for her character (and more interesting as a new story) than simply retreading old ground again. At the very least, I appreciate the developers doing something new.

Could they have worked in Chloe to this current story? Possibly. But if you've chosen to save Arcadia Bay, then they'd have to make major concessions for that path and it would probably be harder to write. I understand wanting some justification for past choices, but this point alone doesn't detract from the game or the core story they wanted to tell, at least for me.

The inclusion of other people with powers is pretty neat to see, and it made for an intriguing solution to the mystery that you're investigating through most of the game. I will say that I agree with complaints that the last two chapters felt quite simple plot-wise, and I wish there was more to dig in to. The slow unraveling of what Safi did was great, and I wish there could've been another big mystery near the end after resolving that thread in Chapter 4. The storm sequence was neat, but it would've been cool for the different scenes to mean more to Max personally rather than just finding characters confused and "fixing" them.

Also, some of the plot threads like the detective vanishing appear to have been dropped, which again takes points away from the ending. It's possible that these points will be revisited in a future entry or DLC, so I'm not too upset, but it would've been really neat to see these come together more clearly and that would've provided the intrigue that I wanted from final chapters.
Overall, the game truly shines when it allows you to immerse yourself in the world and just be in the moment having emotional conversations with characters that you care about. For example, slow moments with Vinh and Amanda in the bar just really hit hard when you think about what they're going through. Overall, it's a quaint story that really did feel powerful as we see Max navigate college teacher life (especially managing different versions of people across the two worlds, that was really neat to see! They even got me with some of the "wrong Vinh" moments lol), but I think it could've been elevated even more with more locations to explore (it did feel a bit limiting by the end), more characters to interact with, and more depth with the existing cast. It felt like there was a lot more we could've explored (Reggie for example, or Diamond) but I'm still satisfied with what we got, and I'm definitely looking forward to whatever comes next and hoping some of these lingering threads are addressed. If so, it would smooth out the experience and perhaps make it feel a bit more complete. But either way, this was a great experience and one I highly recommend for anyone that loves the Life is Strange series.

Well, this was definitely a video game I guess? Let's get the elephant in the room addressed first. When you think of Max, you also think of her best friend and famous love interest - [strike] Warren. [/strike] Chloe. If you choose the Chloe ending, she has less than minimal purpose in this game. She is mentioned like five times throughout the episodes, and Max cannot interact with her through the social media in game. What an insulting letdown. If you choose the ending where Arcadia Bay survives, then yep - Chloe is dead, and I imagine the rest of the game continues as normal, and ironically flows better since they don't try hamfist chloe into Max's past. The game itself just felt janky, I ran into technical bugs, audio difficulties and odd graphical errors while playing. You will finish a chapter, and the audio will just cut off abruptly. NPC's talking around campus also cut off audio wise quite often. It is also an Unreal Engine game, so take that as you will. Expect stutter's for no reason or a smooth experience. Your mileage may vary. As much as it was nice to see Max again, this game just isn't comparable to Life is Strange 1, Before the Storm of even Life is Strange 2. The characters are quite flat and forgettable, and personally the only character worth mentioning and remembering appears in Chapter 2 and 3, never to be seen again and utilised poorly. As a fan of the series, you can try the game out but I would highly wait for a sale. As a new fan, steer clear and play the first games.

This game was not what I hoped for when it was announced. Somehow, I managed to avoid spoilers for the yearish it took me to finally play it. The story of Max and Safi was compelling to me from the word "go." The mysteries, twists, and callbacks all shattered my expectations. Is it a perfect game? No. I don't think those exist. The journal always starts on page 1 and you have to manually flip through the pages to see the newest entry. Crosstalk and Text Messages often feel like an afterthought. Vinh, the male love interest doesn't hold a candle to Amanda. But these are problems I have with the set-dressing of an amazing story. If you're as big a fan of this world as I am, you won't be disappointed with this entry.
Can't wait to see how this wraps up.
I took this as a respectful nod to LIS 1, and a great effort of character development for max. I really enjoyed my time with it

One of the most disappointing games within LIS franchise. Devs added in storylines that never even took off anywhere or weren't even explained or finished, character development wasn't shown anywhere, it was just a complete mess. Truly believe they only continued max's storyline was so they could have a reason to make the most laziest and unorganized game within the series.

i was waiting for this game for so long and when i played it i felt a little disappointed, i felt sad that Chloe wasn't in this game, and that literally almost none of the beloved characters were here, i get it that max moved to live a different life but NONE of the og story was in the game (except max) and her outfit choices are hideous, i guess the games plot story would be good for like a NEW character and NOT max, overall, if u haven't played lis 1 then play it and only buy this game if Ur like a lis game collector or sum, it was pretty good but i didn't really like it and it was not worth THAT much money, PLEASE buy a different game for the money and only buy this if u really want it!!
