Proverbs is a hidden gem. At its core, it’s a puzzle game—basically Minesweeper on steroids. Just you versus 54,000+ boxes. But there’s more to Proverbs than just solving puzzles. What sets it apart is that you’re uncovering a real painting. There’s something satisfying about appreciating the art piece by piece—even if it’s a pixelated form of appreciation. It’s a fun, approachable way to engage with art, especially for people like me who aren’t likely to spend hours staring at a painting in a museum. The game board is broken into manageable chunks, which makes it easy to pick up and put down depending on how much time you have. That design choice really adds to the game’s relaxing, low-pressure vibe. All in all, Proverbs is absolutely worth picking up. I spent close to 30 active hours with it, and it pairs perfectly with an audiobook or music if you're not in the mood for something intense. It’s thoughtful, calming, and quietly addictive.

a great listening-to-podcasts-game, a bit boring on its own though

Simply amazing, it does what it says extremely well, I had it running in the background sometimes so considering that it took me a bit over 15h to complete, and I felt like I was breezing through. One thing I noticed is most of the time spent not clicking tiles you'll be looking for an already complete square you missed, instead of actually thinking and actively using deduction. I can see myself doing it again in the future when I have to kill *a lot* of time. Worth the money

Experienced minesweeper players should temper their expectations. This game does not pose any challenge. Very rarely was I using advanced techniques to solve, everything can be solved simply by counting. For me personally that was a bit disappointing, but this is probably appealing to others. This game flows slightly different from regular minesweeper and it took a few hours for my brain to adjust. After that it was simply a matter of how fast are you able to click to complete everything, which took me 15 hours in total. All this doesn't make it a bad game. It is relaxing. I really enjoyed learning about the (mostly) archaic sayings. But it can become boring quickly, so I could only play it in short sessions. I would love to see the concept of this game combined with more interesting problem solving. Proverbs has a lot of potential and I like its vibe, but it is trivial. 6.5/10
Review after 100%
Very relaxing and satisfying puzzle game. It's Minesweeper but without the bombs: Via deduction you complete areas of different sizes and shapes. These areas represent Proverbs - as the name of the game implies. The way the areas are set up is very well thought out, as you often find yourself puzzling with a certain pattern or path through which the area slowly makes sense and then gets solved. The different sized areas are great at pacing: Am I in the mood for a quick riddle in my break or do i want to tackle a larger area? The soundtrack is also nice and got stuck in my head quite frequently. If you enjoy deduction focused puzzles such as Minesweeper without the tension; this is the game.

Super relaxing, and I loved reading the sayings after completing each zone. Worth the money for sure. Keep up the good work, Mark!

This has been my favorite game as of late. It has the logical deductions of Minesweeper without any of the tension of a wrong click ending a game. Great for putting on a playlist/podcast and and exercising the grey matter.

I really like this game. It's not quite minesweeper but similar enough that it will trip you up some at first if you have muscle memory for that game. I found this game to be super chill and not particularly difficult, although there were a few times where knowing basic minesweeper rules were needed. No guessing is required. I played the demo before I bought the full game and your progress carries over, so it took me about 30 hours to beat in total. I'm sure this could be done a ton faster. I really liked the little art pieces you unlock as you solve bits of the puzzle. Some of them are really funny, and it's surprising to me how similar a lot of them are to phrases that are still in use today. Overall I say this is a super fun game that's totally worth your time and money.

Lovely minesweeper-like puzzle project that also teaches about some old sayings, some art history, and some nice 19th century music. Satisfying sounds and mechanics also help with the cozy feel. Great fun. Recommended.

Recommended so long as you don't have my flavour of broken brain which will cause you to obsessively play this until finishing the painting.

This is my second mosaic game I've completed by Mark Ffrench. The first was Mega Mosaic. Both are relaxing puzzle games that will let you fix any mistakes you make and will offer hints if you are stuck. The two are very similar with a few small differences. Proverbs vs Mega Mosaic * Completion achievements by region ||| * Completion achievements by percentage of puzzle completed * All regions together form a single picture ||| * Each region is a separate, unrelated image * More regions = more small regions ||| * Fewer regions = more large puzzle areas to solve Features only in Proverbs *Once puzzle is complete see replay of your progress on puzzle. *Pop-ups with proverbs related to the goofy actions of the people in the image for each region solved. (Mega Mosaic does not have any pop-ups.) *Animated border that is nice little surprise when you first zoom out. Unnoticeable when zoomed in so does not distract from solving puzzles. I have a slight preference for Mega Mosaic, though I could see why another person might prefer Proverbs. I like the cohesive theme and unique region solved rewards for Proverbs. In comparison Mega Mosaic's solved images felt very random in how they all fit together. However, I like how there are more large regions to solve in Mega Mosaic. Some of the small regions in Proverbs felt repetitive to solve. tl;dr: There are some slight differences between the two games, but they play nearly the same. If you like one you will probably like the other.
