My first game from Pixel Pulps, but definitely won't be my last. Brilliant writing, awesome pixel art, and at this price??? IT'S A STEAL

The pixel art and storytelling in this dazzling piece of video game pulp slasher fiction - which is also a homage to, and reflection on, its genre - are sublime. It’s a fast-paced, dynamic and brutal visual novella, which takes you into the perspectives of all its vividly-drawn characters, including the Grizzly Man himself. The brilliant writing both revels in, and explores, the pulp fiction it so lovingly recreates, and the moments of metafiction are handled with a light and expert touch. I was so impressed with the sentence to sentence writing, with the recurring themes and images (the bears and the salmon!), and the overall narrative structure. And the pixel art is mind-blowing, especially in its use of colour. Wow. There are a couple of puzzle game scenes that I could take or leave (one a card game that I couldn’t quite grasp), but the interactive elements - especially in moments of danger, which call for simple player inputs - heightened the sense of immersion. I’m now eager to play through the other ‘Pixel Pulps’ games by this talented pair of Argentinian devs (unsurprisingly, a novelist and an artist, respectively). ‘Everyone’s salmon’.

I love the art, the storytelling! Everything is SOOO nice about this game. But the game breaker is, that the save-mechanic does not work all the time... I lost my progress after about 2 hours... And that was devastating... I will update this review, if the bug is fixed.

The genre and the game itself are exquisite. I’d recommend it even if you’re not familiar with the pixel pulp world
