Recommended for: If you're looking for a psychological horror adventure then The Cat Lady is one of the best games you can play. The story, the characters, and the general atmosphere of the game are simply amazing.
It does have a bit of rough edges though. Graphically it doesn't look that great, although one could argue that the gritty art style suits the story. The voice acting is somewhat of a mixed bag (but for the protagonist and other main characters they are pretty good). Also the controls can feel a bit clunky. Yet these are just minor annoyances. The rest of the game is excellent and more than compensates for it. Highly recommended for anyone who likes this genre of games.
My experience: I almost didn't buy The Cat Lady because I thought this would just a another boring emotional indie game. Still, after reading many positive things about it I gave it a try, but I wasn't expecting much.
But after only a couple of minutes the game had me completely captivated and after I finished it I was totally blown away. In the great sea of mediocre horror adventures I found one of the best games I've ever played. The main story of the game is what makes it so great. Many developers try to make a game based on heavy themes but just fail to implement them properly. The Cat Lady executes it perfectly in my opinion. A great mixture of heavy psychological themes and disturbing horror scenes.
I would also like to mention that I think the OST has some great pieces of music that I still regularly listen to. Some examples of my favorite tracks are “Lily of the Valley” and “In My Head It's Like Hell.”
And on a final note, I nominate Susan Ashworth as one of my favorite examples of a strong female protagonist in a video game. An amazing character and paired together with a great voice actor.
