I only write reviews about games I'm passionate about. Dovetail makes great games, I remember playing this when it first came out, I picked up the new copy thinking it'd be smooth and polished but no, it doesn't work nor does it run. I don't know if the game is too old and my PC too new or what but the game is just too old. I do not recomend but I do recomend Train Sim world

I thought I would check out this game after having played most of the Train Sim World games (from 2020 onwards), and having watched some YouTube video's on it. I was not disappointed. The trains handle just as well as they do in the TSW games and although the graphics obviously aren't going to compete with today's standards, I actually find them to be much more charming and apart from the odd hitch here and there, they run extremely well. If you're into simulators then this is a no-brainer, especially when you can pick it up for next to nothing in the sales, and the sheer amount of content available for it, both paid and free, is almost overwhelming! As it says in the name, this game is a classic - a timeless classic at that, and one which will still be being played in years to come.

this game is too expensive for what you get, also it has a lot of troubles running on windows. if your gonna play this game anyway install a copy of linux and play this under steam's proton compatibility layer. it will run a lot better and won't crash due to a mysterious memory error. a better way to play it is to pirate all the content and play it that way, else you will spend many thousands of dollars to get the "full" game

Well all I got say is that this is a thumbs up by the skin of its teeth. In reality it was so close to be a negative review. Pros: This game has so many trains and routes from so many countries. The low storage means you could have many stuff on limited storage. The specs required to run it are so low you might as well hook it up to a potato and it'll still run (2009 game afterall). A giant community that's more then willing to offer more content and advancements free or paid. Cons....oh boy the cons. It's old, really old so graphics wise, it's outdated as hell (I think DTG have focused on TSW now). DLCs. To play anything else, you need some sort of DLC and some of them could go for as cheap as $10 to as expensive as $50. You are dealing with DTG after all. Horrible Content. There is a lot of content that is just plain trash and is not fit for the price it's being sold at (Class 700 I'm looking at you). Reviews are your best friend. I'm prob missing a lot but that's all I could come up with at 1 AM. In conclusion, if you are a big fan of the railways. Go ahead and buy this. If you are a casual enjoyer and prioritizes looks and feel and freedom, may I recommend Train Sim World whatever copy exists by the time you read this. But the overarching review is.......GET OUT WHILE YOU STILL CAN!!!

I was skeptical of using Train Simulator in an emulated Mac Steam environment on my Macbook Air, a minimally equipped laptop that's better for web surfing than gaming. To my surprise the emulation is transparent and the game runs smoothly. Aside from the platform I'm running on, the additional content I purchased was installed automatically and correctly - a huge improvement over previous versions. Steam, Dovetail Games, and the volunteers that maintain the emulator for Mac worked really well together on this, but Dovetail Games has made the most improvement with its seamless purchase and installation experience. Very well done.

My only gripe with this game is if you're on a small, budget PC or, in my case, a laptop, your graphics have to be set to medium, or lower, or your game will crash, which isn't bad, just a bit annoying. Overall, it's still a great game if you like trains, and I highly recommend it. Anyways, see y'all!

Academy is useful training... haven't seen good explanation of gauges or scenario objectives. More limited in locomotive and scenario base game choices than I expected... DLC is where they get their money... like most games.

The game has got potential but its heavily let down by the sub-par graphics, especially when compared to TSW4/5.

Train Simulator Classic 2024 stands as a definitive iteration in the long-running rail simulation series, delivering an impressively detailed and immersive experience for train enthusiasts and simulation fans alike. Developed by Dovetail Games, this latest release builds upon the robust foundation of previous versions by introducing refined mechanics, enhanced graphics, and a wealth of new routes, locomotives, and scenarios that collectively broaden the scope and realism of railway operations. Whether you’re a casual player fascinated by trains or a hardcore sim devotee, Train Simulator Classic 2024 offers a deeply satisfying sandbox where the complexities of train driving and management are faithfully recreated with remarkable attention to detail. One of the game’s greatest strengths lies in its expansive content library. The 2024 edition includes a variety of meticulously modeled locomotives spanning diesel, steam, and electric types, each with authentic control panels, sounds, and physics that capture the unique handling characteristics of different engines. Routes are painstakingly recreated from real-world railways around the globe, featuring dynamic weather conditions, day-night cycles, and vibrant environments that bring the rails to life. From bustling urban commuter lines to scenic countryside stretches, the diversity of settings ensures there is always a fresh challenge and picturesque vista awaiting exploration. Gameplay in Train Simulator Classic 2024 strikes a careful balance between realism and accessibility. Players can operate trains using fully simulated controls, requiring attention to speed limits, signaling systems, braking distances, and fuel or power management. The game provides detailed tutorials and assists for newcomers, but also caters to veterans with advanced driving mechanics and scenario challenges that test precision and timing. Completing varied scenarios—from passenger transport to freight hauling—offers both structured objectives and open-ended free roam modes, allowing users to engage with the simulation at their own pace and style. Graphically, this installment makes noticeable improvements, delivering sharper textures, more detailed rolling stock models, and enhanced environmental effects such as realistic lighting, shadows, and particle systems. The immersive sound design complements the visuals with authentic engine noises, ambient station announcements, and environmental sounds that deepen the sense of being on the rails. The user interface has been polished for smoother navigation and easier access to the extensive options and settings, though some menus may still feel dense due to the simulation’s complexity. A key aspect of Train Simulator Classic 2024 is its strong community support and extensibility. The game continues to thrive through a vibrant marketplace where players can purchase or download additional routes, locomotives, and scenarios created by both official developers and dedicated modders. This ecosystem significantly extends the game’s replayability and allows the community to tailor their experience. Regular updates also improve stability, add features, and refine gameplay mechanics based on user feedback, demonstrating the developers’ commitment to evolving the platform. However, the game is not without its drawbacks. The high fidelity simulation can present a steep learning curve that might intimidate casual players, and some may find the pace slow compared to more action-oriented games. Performance can vary depending on hardware, especially when running highly detailed routes or large trains, sometimes leading to frame drops or longer load times. Additionally, while the base game includes a solid selection of content, many premium add-ons come at a significant additional cost, which may deter budget-conscious players. In summary, Train Simulator Classic 2024 is a polished and richly detailed railway simulation that excels in delivering an authentic and engaging train-driving experience. Its vast content, improved visuals, and comprehensive mechanics offer both depth and variety for simulation fans, while the supportive community and ongoing updates ensure longevity. Though it demands patience and some investment to master fully, this latest entry stands as a testament to the passion and precision of modern train simulators, providing countless hours of immersive railroading adventure. No where near as good as its TSW counter part although DLCs for this has routes i would like. Impossible to control and no matter what i do the game either crashes or stops my train for no reason. I pass a green signal and AWS stops my train as if i'd gone through on red

It is very laggy whereas TSW5 runs well on the same hardware at a higher graphics quality. And it comes up with an "OUT OF MEMORY" error even though I have at least 10 GB ram left.
