Great game by a great developer. Solid, tight, polished 4 player grappling hook action. Awesome pixel art and animation with unique characters. Added modes are a nice bonus. Especially Skyball - which is a ton of fun in a whole different way in the same game. Awesome party game. If you like Towerfall, Samurai Gunn, or just plain 4 player fun, you need this game.

I've been following this game for a bit. I've found that it captures that mix of tense, down-to-the-wire action and simple to pick up mechanics that makes it a big crowd-pleaser at game nights and parties.
My friends and I had a lot of fun with the earlier demo, and we're all looking forward to playing with the early-access version.

Skyhook is fun, fast-paced brawl game. The key feature is the hook, both used to move around and to kill everyone who gets to close. The game has a short single player "campaing". Well, its more a bunch of fun mini-games. Once you are done with these minigames and have collected all the skeleton skins you are ready to beat up your friends in style. The game allows for up to 4 players to fight eachother on a few maps and with a bunch of gamemodes.
The game works fine with a keyboard but I would advise a controller.
In short, Skyhook is a fun local-play, split-screen party game.

This game is amazing especially for 5 dollars ,now one for the sale.Great with friends and the ideas for the missions are actually good.My only and only concern are the controls which I hope you will look into. You have nailed the physics and movement, using the grappling hook and dodge feels great. However, especially during the solo play missions (the second one) ,sometimes i would jump ready to use my grappling hook, but the hook wouldnt come out. Sometimes hitting the side of the structures is very very annoying. Therefore I took it upon myself to list additional options that you can disable or enable such as ,
1. when on the side of the structure and you jump, stop grappling , 2. When grappling you are not able to use melee
3. when holding the grappling button during a stun phase such as (double tapping up or down ,or dodging when below a platform) once out of the stun phase immediately grapple.
For number 3 you could say that not implementing this makes it less skill based blah blah blah.. but for the game itself and especially the missions , it makes the player a complete pile of shat movement wise and responsiveness wise.
I have only gotten plat on the first one finding out allll the secret tricks to hit multiple at one etc..
For the future of this game if this ever become competitive, please adhere to my suggestions.
Great job with the game btw!

!!!EARLY ACCESS REVEIW!!!
TLDR: Local Multiplayer Action Platformer with grapling hooks, and recovering from a bad fall is hard if not impossible.
BIAS:I have not played much of this game, but there isnt much to it at this time so I thought a review was in proper order. I love super smash brothers enough that I spent over 100$ to get a gamecube, controllers, and melee. Duck game is my current fav game. So its safe to say that I love the Genre and as long as the game isnt too terrible I will play almost anything in this Genre.
As stated in the TLDR this is a Local Multiplayer Action Platformer, akin to super smash brothers, duck game, and towerfall. There are currently 4 playable characters, but play style does not differ very much between characters. Some are faster, some have longer grapling hooks etc. There are 3 different levels, The Castle, the Egyptian tomb, and the snowy mountains. Those are not the real names, but its a good summary of the levels. the maps themselvs vary, with platforms at different places each time. I am not currently away if this is random generation or pre set generations, but either way it provides a good amount of replayablity.
GAMEPLAY: The 1-4 players move around the level by jumping and using their grapling hooks. Kills are made by hitting a player with a grappling hook, and one hit is enough to kill a player. You can die by falling off the map. Each player has a set amount of lives and last one with lives win. It is really that simple. However it is fun. And for 5$ this is not too much to ask for. It is importaint to note that this is early access and more features are coming soon.
This game does have AI, and the AI is ok most of the time, although they do have a tendancy to just stand still.
I have found this game to shine at its best when having 4 players(AI or human) on a TV with controllers on the snowy mountian map. THIS GAME DOES HAVE FULL CONTROLLER SUPPORT. AND I SUGGEST YOU USE IT
Pro:
-fun gameplay
-cheap
-easy to get the general idea and start playing, hard to master movement with grappling hook
Con:
-(EDIT: Devs taught me how, its actually easy, +1 for awesome Devs, disregard following on recovery) it is RIDICULOUSLY HARD to recover. If you are on the castle or egytain tomb map and you find yourself hanging off the edge of the tall towers towards the bottom of the map, your screwed. It is almost impossible to recover. That or I suck at recovery. It would be nice if that was made easier.
-Keyboard is not solid. But it seems like a game to play with controllers anyways, I cant think that this can be fixed.
Overall a nice fun party game that I am legitimatly excited to play with my friends. I am very excited to see where this game will go.
Online play would be nice. Arcade mode will be awesome.
9/10 would cause a cat and a shark to fall to their deaths while being a viking with a grapling hook again.

I'm in love with the mobility in this game, and the party modes are fantastic. Seriously, if you have friends to play with, buy it—even if it's just for a few matches, it's absolutely worth it.

The concept for the game is awesome, but there is just so much missed potential.

The lag after grappling is garbage. I understand why it's there, because you can kill opponents with it. However, the ruins the fluidity of the movement.

The movement isn't physics based. So you can't grapple up a lot of speed or fling yourself.

Huge delay after using a melee attack, similar to the lag after grapple. Again, another thing that ruins the fluidity of the game.
Other than that, the UI isn't great, the maps are all the same with different skins. It's just a lot of poor design choices. However, if they were to ever make a 2nd one and fix even 1 of the issues I listed, it'd make the game worth it.

Great pixel art, responsive controls, and tons of huge updates. Real easy concept to pick up and play with friends, while still engaging enough to be very difficult to master and dominate. Lots of game modes with the dev adding content pretty much every week. Highly recommended.

This is a great and very complete game. Multiple game modes, characters with different mechanics, so many costumes and unique levels. Of course it's way more fun to play with other friends around, but the singleplayer will keep you "hooked" (pun-intended) with different challenges which will test your skills while training you to use them in the rest of the game.
If you love Towerfall and similar games, this is a no-brainer, just buy this and you will not regret it!

I played this game for the first time at a local comic convention and it was AWESOME. I bought it as soon as I could. This game is a great game to play locally with friends or alone. I'd recomend this game to anyone looking for a good time at a great price. Overall amazing game!

A fun game that'll last you for an hour or two to be honest.
The controls are alright and can sometimes interfere but it makes the game more fun to get good at. Wish there was more content like custom maps and levels.
Edit: Just realized the game is going for 5 dollars. Recommend buying it whenever it goes on sale due to how little the content is in this game.

One of the most creative ideas for a game that I have seen in a while. I not only love the hook mechanic, but also the overall design. The designs of the characters are superb and all have something unique to them. Overall, an amazing game that I will love to continue to play!

This game is severly under-hyped.
As far as raw gameplay this is on the same level as Towerfall!
I really love the unique characters & abilities, coupled with the diverse set of levels
and game modifiers this game is a no question include for any LAN night.

This is a weird game for me.
Its not a very indepth fighting game and Skyhook's knows that.
However its one gimmick, the hooks is used in a variety of ways that make this game stand out.
You use your hook for both mobility and offense.
Add the basic attack and the air dodge to the mix and you get Skyhooks.
Overall I'd say this game is more than worth the price.

I think it's a real fun game. However, I'm only like 20 minutes into it and I'm already a master, I can defeat setting every comp against me at the highest level already! The cpu hardly seem aware of teh objective of whatever game you put them in and hardly recognize you as an enemy at all. I think it's great and has potential, but if you're a gamer who wants a single player game, this is not for you. If you have friends, play it with your friends, it is so much more fun and challenging.

This game surprised me quite a bit when I first bought it. I was looking for another local multi-player game to add to my library and stumbled across this. I am a huge fan of both tower fall and duck game, so naturally this seemed right up my alley. The graphics were a little off putting at first, they looked less detailed than the games I mentioned previously, but I found the game play to be unique and tons of fun. The challenges are fun to play with a friend and the versus mode is even more so. For $5 you can't go wrong with this game.

Really innovative gameplay. Its good on single player, but multiplayer is really fun! Also if someone remembers the good times of 2 player games in NES back in the days this is a sure buy.

The game is fun, assuming you have people to play with (local multiplayer only). There are singleplayer challenges, which are actually also quite fun, but many of the achievements associated with them are broken. That alone would obviously not merit a negative review, but I and several others have contacted the dev about the broken achievements; the dev responded, saying they would get right on it. That was about half a year ago. This game has been abandoned in favor of Shotgun Farmers (also a very good game, I will admit). I would just really like the achievements to work, that's all, and I would appreciate honesty from a dev who said they were working on a patch to fix the achievements already. If you don't want to fix the achievements, just remove them, honestly that's fine too.
Edit: 5 years later: still not fixed.

Despite my low gameplay time, I can safely say that this game is definitely worth the price. I bought this game on sale for under £1, but I can definitely confirm it's worth the original price. It's a good game with a slight learning curve. It may take time to get better at this game, but it's worth sinking in the hours.
Overall, I'd say buy it. It's a good game with plenty of gameplay and fun to play.

Great game. It's like one of good indie games that won't show up on the main page.
I'd like to see other languages, like from Czech republic.
By the way, i would like to see multiplayer...
and maybe one 'create your own character'.

Aweful gameplay and design.
Poor hook and swing mechanics.
The entire game is half baked, not worth your time or money.
Much potential but learned nothing from Bionic Commando or Speed Runners.
Please just buy Speed Runners, Bionic Commando Rearmed, or Cobalt.
This is one of the worst MP indie games on steam.

Skyhook is a low quality furry friendly 2D retro pixel arena brawler (like Super Smash Bros but really bad). It's differentiated by "hooks" you can swing on like Spider-Man, so there's absolutely zero originality here in this woefully bad "me-too" arena brawler. There is a campaign mode, however, so you could play this against the AI if you want, because no actual gamers play this (see below).
From a technical perspective, the game doesn't meet basic minimum requirements that most PC gamers expect as standard.
A choice was made to use obsolete, decades old retro pixel "art" as a substitute for contemporary PC graphics. It's unclear if this is due to lack of budget or talent, regardless, the overall visual quality of the game is extremely low as a result.
While there are options to change the resolution for the game, all this does is scale up the simplistic 2D art assets used to make the game, which makes little or no difference to the graphics quality. Without any other substantial graphics tweaks, it's not possible for gamers to improve the lacklustre 2D visuals.
PC gamers will understandably be insulted by the developers choice to display only console peasant childrens toy gamepad prompts, despite this never being released on consoles (presumably because it was rejected by Microsoft/Sony due to the poor quality). Developers should at least try to understand which game platform they're developing for. This is an unacceptable insult to PC gamers.
These technical defects push this game below acceptable standards for any modern PC game.
You don't have to take my word about how bad the game is, we can measure the interest in a game by how much people bothered to play it. Skyhook has achievements, and they show us a very clear picture that the game absolutely failed to capture any interest from gamers. The most commonly and easily attained achievement is for climbing the deck of the main menu (trivial to do, can be done in seconds of starting the game), but less than 4 percent of players bothered to get that far before uninstalling the game. That's a tiny, tiny proportion of gamers who even bothered with this. Ouch.
Reviewing SteamDB to check how popular this game was with players reveals a surprise... there's a very healthy spike in player counts for the game. But this isn't consistent with the achievement stats, that show less than 4 percent of players bothered playing the game for any reasonable amount of time. How is it possible for this game to have so many concurrent players who weren't even playing the game? Trading cards. Players will use card idling software to collect the cards and sell them, but this won't trigger any achievements in-game. That tells us people only really bought this game for trading cards, and that's a damning indictment of the woeful quality. A closer look at the numbers shows the game just has a couple of players every week running up the game and idling it for cards, then deleting it. We must ask how it benefits gamers for there to be so many games like this, with no merit as a serious game, that only generate sales from people idling and selling the trading cards.
The game contains stock/store assets/libraries/packages, but the "developer" here hasn't credited the people who actually did the work for the game. In some cases like the pirate ship sound they ripped from FreeSounds, this breaches the BY4.0 accreditation license agreement the developer signed for the use of those assets (I know, I sat through the game credits to make sure the developer properly credited the creator and they didn't, so they wilfully violated the license). Claiming credit for the work of others as well as breaching software licenses is highly unethical. Gamers should be made aware when a developer behaves unethically and breaches license/copyright agreements, as buying games from unethical developers puts the gamers money at risk.
Skyhook has the comically over-optimistic price of around $5 USD, it's not worth it given the defects and shortcomings with the product, especially considering the unethical nature of the developer. Remember that if you buy a game from an unethical developer, you're putting your money at risk.

It's a bit of a stretch to claim that this game has local co-op. The quest mode is single player only. You can play arena games with 2 players on the same team against bots, but that is not really the same thing.

Very simple but interesting gameplay. Me and my buddies fell off the edge more often than we hit each other so I'm not sayin we're great at it.
Duels can get intense when you are trying to guess where your opponent is going to blink or when they are going to hook you and it's fast as shit.
Developers have a great devlog - fought the AI and it was actually very fun
Keep adding content! I feel like this still has room to grow.
