Slime Heroes is a charming action-adventure with 2-player co-op where you play as a customizable blob. For me, the game offers a near-perfect mix of captivating gameplay elements: Throughout your playthrough, you unlock a diverse arsenal of abilities that you can creatively combine for unique effects. While not always efficient, it's still a hell of a lot of fun to experiment with them. The combat system is close to souls-like yet it’s far less punishing and grindy, and perhaps even too forgiving for some connoisseurs of the genre (at least on normal difficulty). I also quite enjoyed that mana regeneration is tied to hitting enemies, rather than relying on consumables. Exploring the world feels rewarding, with more or less hidden items, enhancements, and fancy hats to discover. The dungeon puzzles are simple but engaging. On top of that, the game often lets you overcome platforming challenges in your own way, and occasionally even sequence break (getting further than your current abilities should allow). Oh, and did I mention it has 2-player co-op? That alone makes the game at least twice as good, if not even way better. I was lucky to see the YouTuber Iron Pineapple play the demo, and I got excited when I saw it was finally released on Steam. More people should know about this gem and support the indie devs behind it by picking up a copy. TLDR: A cute (in a charming way) Souls-like that’s approachable, creative, and just plain fun, especially in co-op.
