Loved the original, heavily disliked this one. The fights against charismatic and interesting characters have been diluted with pointless filler battles that keep getting recycled; the unique and memorable story has been replaced with disjointed, miniature adventures that leave no impact whatsoever... It sucks because i like some of the new stuff, namely that achievements are now tied to 1-shotting enemies instead of no-damaging them, which is a lot less frustrating. Everhood 2 still has some good fights and equally good songs, but they are just too few and far between. The first game was about letting good things end, this one seems to be about the exact opposite.

Its Everhood, but with badly written characters and a story that goes absolutely nowhere. To be fair, the story of the first game would have been almost impossible to live up to in a sequel, but i'm thoroughly disappointed that ForeignGnomes just threw their hands into the air and didn't even think about it. There's literally no insentive to become attached to the main characters outside of their designs, and the whole game overall just feels extremely shallow. The original Everhood is one of my favourite games of all time, but the lack of thought put into the sequel outside of music and level design removed what made the original so great for many, the captivating story. Yeah there are all these great fights to see and listen to, but i have literally no reason to care about what i'm doing, with such little explanation as to why. Finding out why your character does what he does in Everhood 1 was satisfying, and none of your questions are left unanswered by the end of the main campaign. Everhood 2 gives you an overwhelmingly large amount of boring questions to ask about the world you are in that have nothing to do with the non-existent story, and you *don't* get answers to any of them! The occasional laugh (of which i'm not ashamed to say this game can be very funny) doesn't make up for the complete lack of care and thought put into the game world and it's inhabitants. Maybe lightning couldn't strike twice between Everhood and it's sequel, but regardless, if you enjoyed the story and meticulously pieced together plot of the main game, this simply isn't worth picking up.
Disappointment
Basically, Compared to the first game(masterpiece) the visuals are prettier and the gameplay is slightly improved, but unfortunately the story is bad and rushed. The game sells you a dream... a fake RPG dream some features and items serve no purpose, the devs are openly mocking us and trolling your $20. The combat tracks (which are supposed to be the core of the game imo) seriously lack bangers, like bruh cmon
Also
Why are the reviews mostly positive when the majority of everhood OGs are disappointed with the game??

it's ok. I think that the gameplay is overall refined and better than the first. but everything else is worse.

If you searching for absolute banger music, very fun fights, I HIGHLY recommend playing this game. Of course it's not everyone piece of cake, a lot of people expected deep story/lore from Everhood continuation, well there is no continuation, it's a plain simple story with many jokes and gags and I think it's absolutely fine. If you want story, DON'T buy this game, you will be dissapointed, but for the people who loves music and loves challenges, this game is absolutely for you. I loved the first game and I loved second one as well equally. They made fighting system way better than Everhood, they improved a lot since Everhood and I appreciate it, it's not 10/10 game, but for 20$, I think is very well worth the money.

I rather enjoyed this game as a sequel, of sorts, to the first. There's a definite difference in feel but I found that meaningful and enjoyable.

wonderful goofy game that has amazing music. It is a nice sequel but does not have as rich of a story as the first

The story is a hidden prequel(?) to everhood 1 and is one of those "its very hidden in the background details with random bits of lore as to whats really going on are spread out of order and out of the way" kind of things, feeling like theory bait instead of 'proper' storytelling (which I understand is part of the games message, but the way it goes about delivering it is clumsy). It's not soulless, but the execution is really lacking in that department, at least by my tastes, though the lore is fun to delve into, and the story does work a bit better when viewed alongside everhood 1. The gameplay, soundtrack and visuals are all very nicely done though, and worth playing the game for alone imo, maybe wait for a sale if the story has you on the fence

Everhood 2 is a game i would very much like to enjoy as much as the first but i just cant. The only major improvements to the game to me was the overall graphic enhancements (especially during the battles) and the overall game-play itself. GAMEPLAY- In the first game an annoying factor for me was the general way to damage enemies however in the second the gameplay for this is drastically different and much improved on. This however changed the achievements for the fights to be focused on 1 hitting them as opposed to no hitting them. This is ok, but this comes at the cost of having some fights just not being as fun as they could be. In addition unlike the first game this game focuses more on being a rpg (even going so far as to have a level up system) this is both a good thing and a bad thing. The good thing is that, as mentioned earlier the fights have more depth to them. For example switching weapons to enemies that are more weak to specific colour types. This helps make the game not just seem as a copy and paste as the first however this also kind of leads to the bad thing about it. In an attempt to make the world more rpg like, the enemies you face are reused a lot which makes them just kind of annoying to fight after a a while as you end up having to do same fight on repeat quite often. GENERAL ENEMY COMPLAINTS- In the first game fights were unique which made them memorable to which i can remember almost every encounter. However in the second even after finishing the story i can only remember the main story fights and that about it. Also the fights are just way shorter which makes them less unique and memorable as opposed to the longer fights of the first (even the major ones). MUSIC- the same issue with the aforementioned memorable issue. In the moment there are a couple really good tracks. For example i liked the dragon and cyber enemy themes however for most of the ost i cant remember it to save my life. This is a shame because to me almost every song in everhood 1 was a masterpiece to which i could hum most songs out loud even without it on in the background. To sum it up this game has more 'in the moment' music then just general bangers. CHARACTERS - reusing Sam from the first game is a neat idea as it helped to capture the attention of everhood 1 fans. However im not sure if its the setting, plot or just overall writing but he just isn't as fun to be around. All he ever does is try to steal things without anything else to his character. In addition the other main character (i forgot his name) is very similar in that they are just one note and do the same thing for the entire game with no mix up. This would be okay if they weren't the main cast but they are. As a result, the main cast is just generally boring to be around. However i will say i think the main antagonist to the game (the shade) is very well done and fun/mysterious although he only really got any screen time at the end of the game so you don't experience much of him. COMEDY - now comedy is subjective. I'm not one to tell you what to find funny and what not to find funny. However due to the stale characters i found myself more bored at the jokes rather than laughing (plus i think the first game was just more funny, for example the board game i found to be particularly entertaining). So as a whole i think the general comedy is a major downgrade to the first game MAP/SETTING - in the first game i would argue the quality of the areas was quite consistent in the sense that most areas were enjoyable to explore. However in this, it is very hit or miss. Some areas such as the 3d realm and the cyber area i thought were quite fun however most of the other areas to me were just bland or boring. This is probably because of the more detailed look to the game due to the graphic enhancements though. To me this makes the game fail when compared to the first game since in the first game they had more mysterious feels to them. But this isn't a major deal as i think the map design is still good (just not as good as the first). STORY - To put it bluntly, i thought the story sucked. This is due to a multitude of reasons. 1. As mentioned earlier i don't like the characters, so when something would happen with them (very rare moments) i wasn't very interested. For example when one of the main companions gets corrupted in the cyber area. 2. The story hates to explain anyone's motivation for anything (apart from stealing of course). Unlike the first game where you start doing bad things for what you learn later to be a good cause. This games main character has no purpose whatsoever but to wander around and that's kind of it. Later you aim to become god but like there is no explanation as to why it would be a source of motivation (in fact it kinda presents itself as a bad thing later on) so i don't think that really counts. 3. Nothing really happens for very long periods of time. A huge chunk of the game its just preparing to fight you're mind dragon (again no explanation as to why i should really care about this thing but okay i guess). But its like after that, they forgot they needed something plot wise to drive the story forwards. This leads to the rest of the game just being random stuff happening until the shade stuff (which was good but it is at the very end, so again okay i guess). 4. I might be dumb and interpreted the games message wrong but it seems that the general message the game says is that more doesn't necessarily mean better in the sense that we asked for more content when we already had a wrapped up story so here's something disappointing. I don't mind the general message if it was properly shown. However the game does not make any attempt at helping you to understand the purpose/meaning towards anything so the message isn't as engaging or interesting. Its more of a punch to the balls to the players who enjoyed the first game. But despite this complaint i still feel the main guy who shows you this interpretation of a message, the shade, is still cool. i just wished this kind of story telling was presented all throughout rather than just at the end. GENERAL CONCLUSIONS - i think as a stand alone game this could be quite interesting and fun to play and it even has a cool message behind players always wanting more content. However due to this being a sequel it needs to be compared to its predecessor. Unfortunately it just fails to capture what the first game did. As a result the majority of fans who have played the first game (like me) will ultimately feel dissapointed with the game as a whole. if you haven't played the first then i would highly recommend it over this game however by not playing the first then this game might be a way better experience. Again i would like to reiterate. This game is not bad but it just doesn't compare to the expectations that the majority of those who played the first game had for it.

Its very good. Dont take into account the bad reviews. Its a different game from the previous and thats what it should be. Combat is much better. I met Carl Jung, Genghis Khan and Rasputin within 5 minutes, thats already enough for me.

too incoherent nothing makes sense progress-wise, or in general character/enemy design is shit like you fight 5 bosses with 2 attacks that are pngs of vegetables then fruits then animals thats not character design thats being lazy game is also easy the original everhood was not overpriced, overhyped and oversaturated which is sad since the first everhood was really good SEQUEL SHOULD NOT HAVE BEEN A DECISION

I'm kind of shocked by the reception this game gets. I really enjoyed it and i honestly feel like alot of the complaints are from people who want this game to be like the first one.

This game is the perfect example of bigger doesn't equal bigger. This game loses so much of what made the first game great, to the point where it legitimately harms the first game to a drastic degree. I gave the first game, Everhood, a 9/9. Everhood 2 is a 2/9.

i don't get people disliking the ending of a game where you are immortal, and therefore can't die, so when the story ends, you are taught that nothing will ever change since you live forever, and so there will never be any sort of ending, which is why there is no ending to the game. It makes sense.

Everhood 2 is one of those sequels that's more focused on improving the actual gameplay rather than supply a followup to the first game's story, and at least in that aspect the game succeeds with flying colors. The game feels VERY fun to play. There are no real duds in the soundtracks, and the changes to the system makes it feel more like an actual rhythm game. However, in terms of story it just feels like it doesn't click in place when combined with the first game. A lot of the story is basically just the devs thinking up excuses to put you into more battles. There's barely a connection between the events in the game, which makes it a lot less hard-hitting than the iconic story of the first game. There's only so much improved gameplay can do to make up for a lackluster story, especially in a sequel to a beloved game, and I understand why this would turn some players off. I'm not one of those players, however. The game's still fun. Play this if you want an improved combat system and don't care about the overall narrative that much.

I liked everhood and its sequel. This game is definitely an improvement when it comes to the soundtrack (which is really frickin good) and art/animations. the one thing it did't improve though, was the story. To be frank, I don't get the story of this game. The other game was chaotic but it still had a story with an interesting premise that made it really stick out to me but. This game though, I didn't know what I was even my goal in the game storywise for most of my playtime. It felt like my goals where shifting all the time with no resolutions with the previous goals. Spoiler:
At first we are killing the mind dragon but when we do that we didn't really see why we did that besides for the weapon. Then there's getting our voice back which doesn't happen. Then there's whatever raven and the mc were doing in the mushroom bureau. Then there's the initial importance of pandemonium and various other situations.
It's just feels way too chaotic storywise but the soundtrack makes up for it

I wish steam had a neutral option because it's just ok I loved the first and this just doesn't stand up to it, it's lacking the same creative meaningful spark of the first and it shows all the way down to the track naming. way too many reused battles and a story that leads to nowhere; only main improvement is the battle system the most lukewarm I've felt to any game

Finished the game. If you loved the original game for the story and gameplay, I think you will appreciate the improvements to the combat and gameplay in Everhood 2, but be supremely disappointed in the story or lack thereof. There is a general theme, sure, but you'll be grasping at straws for the entire game and you will not receive a satisfying conclusion. Be warned. The characters are bright and fun, but because the story lacks depth, they come off as flatter and less interesting than in the Everhood 1, making conflict and resolution to minor problems in the game feel empty and less satisfying. Overall, the game felt disappointing to me, but I still enjoyed myself at times.

A confusing story would normally be a detractor for my enjoyment, but for Everhood 2 the confusion really adds to the experience. I had myself guessing what was real and what wasn't, who I could trust, who was good or evil, or whether my efforts were in vain or not. I would not be left guessing for very long, as Everhood 2 is quick to remind me that all is vanity. Everything you thought you knew about the universe of Everhood 1 is thrown out the window. If you prefer a more concise story with definite endings, you might want to try Everhood 1 instead. However, if you're looking for a more challenging and longer experience, then Everhood 2 is for you. It never ends in Everhood.
