I beat it and all I could think was how do you fumble such a fantastic story the first game had so badly? It felt like a large majority of the time and effort went into music and combat which are undeniably the best parts about this game. But that's it. Even the characters felt like they didn't have enough time to really captivate you or make you care about them which is such a far step away from Everhood 1. Can't recommend this.

If you searching for absolute banger music, very fun fights, I HIGHLY recommend playing this game.
Of course it's not everyone piece of cake, a lot of people expected deep story/lore from Everhood continuation, well there is no continuation, it's a plain simple story with many jokes and gags and I think it's absolutely fine. If you want story, DON'T buy this game, you will be dissapointed, but for the people who loves music and loves challenges, this game is absolutely for you. I loved the first game and I loved second one as well equally. They made fighting system way better than Everhood, they improved a lot since Everhood and I appreciate it, it's not 10/10 game, but for 20$, I think is very well worth the money.

too incoherent
nothing makes sense progress-wise, or in general
character/enemy design is shit
like
you fight 5 bosses with 2 attacks that are pngs of vegetables
then fruits
then animals
thats not character design thats being lazy
game is also easy
the original everhood was not
overpriced, overhyped and oversaturated
which is sad since the first everhood was really good
SEQUEL SHOULD NOT HAVE BEEN A DECISION

my hyperfixation chose this game instead of anything else.
Everhood 2 gave me brain damage by the end of it, but at least the main character is silly.
i don't recommend, unless you want to feel the hope for this game leave your eyes in real time.

Like most people, its hard to evaluate the game on a binary yes/no reccomendation scale. Heres what I think it does better and worse than everhood one :
- Combat : The combat is the number one improvement from everhood one. More battles, better battles, good systems, it actually has a lot of depth and it is done well.
- Music : Both games have amazing music, hard to say which is better.
- Characters : While Everhood 2 has a **lot** more character designs and talkable npcs, like 80% of them are backer designed mushrooms confined to one room. I prefer the quality of character writing in everhood one, as you feel like you get closer to a smaller cast, while everhood 2's companion characters are more inconsistent and less likeable. Not a single person doesnt just see you as for their own gain, you don't make any close connections in that sense.
- Humour : Both games have very "random" humour, which can be quite funny if done well. I personally liked both game's jokes and humour evenly.
- Story : Story.. Is where everhood 2 falls short. I WANT to love the game's story and themes, I WANT to engage in the philosophical questions it raised like I can for everhood 1 but... Its too incoherent. I can clearly say "everhood one is a game about immortality", and while it obviously won't cover all the game's themes, it conveys an idea of them. I cannot do that for everhood 2. I guess it would be "about godhood" but thats a lot more esoteric and not nearly as deifned. The story has a lot of really good setups and it never resolves them. It could be very good, the devs gave themselves many ways to go to make a story on par with that of OFF for instance, but they never do. It feels like the game at the same time demands deep analysis and also refuses to have any element hold up to scrutiny.
- Visuals : Like in the 1st, there are some really trippy visual moments, but with way less consistence of art style. it kinda works, but there are different resolutions of pixel art, some litteral photographs and some 3D renders inhabiting the same space, its jarring.
Overall, everhood 2 is a game that has a really good combat system and music, but who's story falls short compared the the first game. I still think people should play it, hence the positive reccomendation, but with the correct expectations. Do play everhood 1 if you havent already tho!

I wish steam offered a mixed recommendation option as this game has some aspects that are quite amazing such as it's gameplay, visuals, and overall OST, but also quite a few things such as the boring repeated enemies, and it's borderline incomprehensible progression and story that can outright ruin your experience depending on how you take things. If the overall gameplay and visuals is what you loved most about Everhood 1, this game is honestly a blast, but if you are looking for a good meaningful story such as the first, your really not going to find it here. That all said, I found the positives here to far outweigh the negatives and I personally had quite a bit of fun here.
Also the Dragon fight is peak, honestly might be my favorite between the 2 games.

I like how different it is. People are way too harsh, it's not like this game is completely unrelated to the first.
And the music is better than the first in my opinion.

Just like the first game, I played this for one of my best friends. This game has a lot less concise of a story than the first game...but I think its overall themes still stick the landing and remain relavant to the story the game wants to tell and how it ends up relating to the first game.
The first game is about life and death. 2 is about friends and facing your demons together with a more inward take. I think its less good than the first game story wise...but...
Oh the gameplay is so fucking good. Its so so good. If you remotely enjoyed the gameplay of hte first game, play 2. It is so so worth it.

Yes the ending is kinda weird, it could have been executed better, but the rest of the game is actually so good that i can excuse it, i'm loving trying to 100% this

Fun to play, worth the money, with great music and visuals, but in general a huge downgrade from the original game.

Everhood 2 is a unique experience. My first exposure to Everhood was the trailer for 2, where a slew of reviews said to try the first game first because they are vastly different experiences--and this is true without a doubt. HOWEVER, where many found the vast difference in story and direction to be a downgrade I can't in good faith agree. The first Everhood is a gripping story with surprisingly fresh mechanics, so if riveting story is your jam the first game is for you. The second, however, is a perfect "relax, don't think too much, and have fun" kind of game. 10/10 got scammed by a snake

It's... fine
If you played the first everhood and you enjoy the gameplay, you would enjoy this game.
However, the story's game feels... less impactful than the first one, ever feels like an fangame of the original, something that exaggerates the things that made the original so lovely and unique. It's not bad, you can enjoy it for sure, however, it's not perfect and sometime it's so ambiguous and complex, maybe i'm the stupid for have not knowledge in psychology and didn't understand.
The gameplay, it felts better, it's responds more than the 1st game, so it's pretty cool, and have the workshop and those mods that would be great to play
In level design, well, it's linked to the story, in how the game it's made and narrated, it fels less impactful and sometimes it starts to be monotne and pretty boring, except some battles, "the bosses battles" some are pretty cool and some songs are hard, some others (unfortanly, the majoraty) it's so loudness, that goes to nothing, other are short but they can't do nothuing else for how the game it's. Visually... it's pretty, you can't deny that... but it's too much, sometime it's hard to see, but it happens almost never sooo... it's fine, you would love to watch
It's like the game tried to be so much that becomes to nothing. (Possible spoiler(?) even sometimes takes a lot of the previous game instead of do something on their own)
Still fun tho. Pretty complex game

I want to love this game. I really, REALLY do. The first game threw me in a loop of despair and acceptance, while this one left me even more confused about what my purpose was supposed to be. I will recommend it because it made great improvements to battles, but not much else.

Everhood 2 sets a different precedent to Everhood 1.
If you're going into EH2 thinking it will be EH2 but better in every aspect, you may be disappointed.
If you're going into EH2 thinking the combat will be better, you will be greatly impressed.
If you're going into EH2 thinking there will be cool music, you will be greatly impressed.
If you're going into EH2 thinking the story will hit the same as EH1, maybe not so much.
This game takes a much more silly and lackadaisical approach to storytelling. The anachronistic nature of events means you could meet a character for the first time in a big way, and then an hour later finally "Meet" them in their introduction cutscene. Makes for... confusing narrative.
The combat is where this game shines. There's so much nuance to it. So many ways of hitting higher scores or building up sick combos! And with so many fights there's bound to be quite a few you will enjoy, if not just for the music!
It's worth a play for sure. I'd even say you don't need to play EH1 to play EH2.

I mean, honestly It's not awful. It's story pales in comparison to the first one and the idea that
the normal ending of Everhood 1 is non-canon
is upsetting to say the least. But the gameplay is such a massive improvement from the first, and honestly I still found myself enjoying the story. A bit disappointed this game didn't give me an existential crisis, like the first one did, but it's still a good game.

the gnomes have done it again. if you liked everhood this is more and better. the story and characters are different but the feel and insanity is the same. this game is mind boggling in the best way possible, and it deserves more appreciation.

I tried giving this game a full play-through, but I guess the developers just want to prank my ass by making the sequel to one of my most cherished indie games an unfocused mess with the "wacky psychedelic aesthetics and random humor" dial turned up beyond 11 for no real reason.
I really enjoy the soundtrack at least, Chris letting Cazok and Stewart Keller take over songwriting was a good call given how much I LOVED Cazok's contributions to the original game. But even the great soundtrack is marred by the fact that in trying to make unique songs for every fodder enemy, most of the battle tracks I've heard end up being sub 1-minute loops and feel like unfinished drafts. Just a lot of wasted potential considering those short loops still have some great riffs.
Like, power to the devs to play a prank on my ass by making me sit through an unskippable, 150+ text box rant by the late real-life botanist/psychedelic drug activist Terrance McKenna. Hell, have VideoGameDunkey as a cameo for some stupid ass reason I guess complete with an awful original showtune ass theme song, but shit like that just makes me cringe and turned me off from this game so hard after already struggling to stick to the game to begin with.

I dunno why you tards cant understand that the f*in premise of the story is to not be worried about the ending and that the point of the game is to enjoy the experience. Battles 10>10 . Music 10>10 . Characters 8> 10 , wouldve liked to see more of them fleshed out a bit more but nonetheless the shit is fun. The Game Is Fun. End of Story.

Its not that its a bad game, its just that its not the same as the first i was expecting more story based on the first game which it wasn't at all, the focus on the rpg aspect and comedic aspect kind of ruined the game a little ofc the first one had comedic aspects but it was serious when it needed to be and actually had a story to it, this one focuses TO much on the comedy, i guess if you want story play the first one if you want comedy play this one however i personally don't recommend it if your like me coming from the first one expecting it to be a sequel to it
tl;dr - SLOPPY, full of soy and zero soul, made me dislike the first game despite the original being good
this has been happening for a while, indie devs also following the ubisoft way of copy/pasting the same formula and applying a shinier skin to their product while adding a few enhancements to justify the price tag... in other words, another slap in the face that many will get behind for biased reasons
apart from combat improvements, everhood 2 doesn't deserve its title and feels like a lazy expansion vomited by an AI.. lacking purpose and game direction when it comes to narrative, which was one of the pillars of the original game - besides 3 or so characters, every other NPC is poorly designed and forgettable, barely carrying any personality to display (one character is literal p0rn and is solely there to either entice dumb teenagers or piss you off), telling you constantly where to go and what to do while barely giving the player any sense of agency and exploration, thus completely failing to immerse in the story (if you can even tell there's one, since the best i got from the game is how it begs to tell you
~le nothing matters and going ~le mad inflicting ~le harm against yourself and others with ~le boys is ok brr ~le come-watch-tv rick and morty reference before final boss fight i'm not even kidding
)
as for the actual gameplay, it's fine and arguably better than the first game - the original was more reserved and about dodging, here it's more engaging and about attacking... enemies are a nuisance on screen during combats and more than anything else were designed to irritate you with their exaggerated animations (getting taunted in fortnite with a silly dance is less cringe and annoying to watch).. neither the difficulty seems to escalate as you progress, further enemies receive bigger health bars as you level yourself up and may take longer to finish off while the attack patterns and music loop multiple times if you don't defeat them asap
speaking of audio - the soundtrack for the original game fits well with it, barely the case here most of the time despite being of similar quality.. sound balancing also seems broken atm, the game is silent below 30% in the settings and gets exponentially louder as i dragged the slide bar to 100% (not to mention the loud earr@pe moments here and there during some cutscenes and dialogues, may or may not be fixed eventually)
wouldn't doubt if the achievements were created by your stereotypical user of the retroachievements.org - browse through them and tell me that's reasonable while taking yourself seriously, i'd rather get disappointed in having none than over a hundred of the same crap for each and every enemy, at times unlocking two or three at once for the most petty and "funny" reason imaginable.. a chaotic mess is just that, not a joke that lands well
probably you already had gone through the first game.. trust me, unless you're among those who became a religious fan of the original and/or don't give a damn and will play this game very superficially for the gameplay, scoreboards, and achievements alone, DON'T RUIN THE EXPERIENCE YOU HAD AND PRETEND THIS "SEQUEL" NEVER CAME OUT, save your time and your $20 for an actual product developed by a sober and self-conscious human being that cares for their craft and still creates meaningful art
