The legends are true, it is THAT good. It is very difficult before learning some advanced mechanics though. So you either embrace suffering at the beginning, or find someone more experienced to play with or watch.

100% too tedious to play Solo. Great game with friends, but solo is an exercise in manually clicking through the clunky UI elements to accomplish the feat of wasting your time. There's baseline QOL features flat out missing from a solo experience that would seem to be trivial to code in - the foremost of which is some kind of unified inventory for crafting. There's a lot of powerful and efficient stuff in the crafting system, but solo will have you wasting an unacceptable amount of time running around playing inventory management. Multiplayer these kinds of logistics hurdles are fine. For solo, it's baffling how the game fails to account for this basic QOL feature that would save hours of time during a playthrough. Bots and AI are capable in some respects, but near useless when it comes to logistics which is a massive part of the game. The game of course takes inspo from Space Station 13 when it should take the tiniest hint from Rimworld and allow me to set up conditional rules for my Doc's medicine use on certain crew, or set up the most basic of inventory management or crafting management to always try to keep X stock of Y good, or hauling rules to deposit X item type into Y storage locker. Seems really straightforward, right? The result is that some missions are just too bothersome to even care about. Salvage or Outpost missions take ages to do, since the best the bots can do is follow you and you have to manually pause members of the squad so they don't go running off while you tab through them. Looting monsters is an absolute joke since you have to manually stop the boat, take control of the diver, go through the airlock, swim out, loot, return, and do this with a single diver since there's no way to order anyone to loot anything and return. A lot of mechanics are fine with a multiplayer crew but are just a lost cause solo. Unless it's on a strong sale, honestly you're better off watching unless you have an existing group of people to play with.

Great title that offers a unique blend of strategy, action, and teamwork. Playing solo is possible if you desire to manage all your NPCs, but the multiplayer is where the game really shines. Development has been amazing, almost too good since if gives the modding community difficulties at times. Even has a built-in Submarine builder if you desire to make your own (assuming you are willing to spend the time to learn all of it's complexities & nuances). Overall, would definitely recommend giving it a look.

What an absolute masterpiece. It scratches that "game with the homies" itch like Lethal Company or Baldur's Gate 3, but Barotrauma's gameplay is so much more elaborate and polished in just the right ways that make your crew laugh, scream, and curse like sailors. And damn, the aesthetic hits just right. I would buy it again at full price. I would recommend playing multiplayer campaign with your closest, most homoerotically masculine friends, but anyone you know well will do. My only complaint is that the campaign is a slow burn, though that might not be the worst for other new players.

10/10 Madness Simulator Can be played Solo-depending on your Experiences with other Players that might be harder or easier. Tons of custom submarines in the workshop Tons of mods which change and/or add all kinds of things in the game. Public Games which you can join and be a traitor in. Campaign Mode in which you can level up yourself and your crew. Generally a good thing this game. Gotta harass some friends so they also play it.

We Need to Go Deeper too simple for you? Teamwork is something your friends excel at? Then Barotrauma is the game for you! Be the captain and stare at the radar telling your gunner friends of the horror they have to shoot at, if they don't will result in everyone dying! Why not be the engineer and be careless and set the reactor on fire causing a total meltdown because you're too busy deconstructing everything in the sub. Mechanic? Sure that door needs welding, no one definitely needs access to it whatsoever. This game is for friends to build their friendships to be stronger, or find ways to sabotage each other for the fun of it. 10/10 recommend to play it. Oh and also you can play it in singleplayer, which gives you a well oiled machine chugging along Europa hoping the bots do their job and not go psychotic and kill you or your crew. Go crazy with mods to spice things up.

Our security officer killed our baby pet mudraptor so i drugged him, amputated all his limbs, extracted his eyes and stole all his organs, then disposed of the body by throwing it in the ballast tank. Great game with great mods, P.S. This isn't possible in vanilla, download neurotrauma and enjoy your crew looking on in horror at the guy getting his limbs ACTUALLY ripped off by the mudraptor that broke into the ship 10 seconds ago.

If you can get it very cheap, it's worth a try. Still, I got utterly bored after 35 game hours. Needs friends who are able to perform tasks. Anyone playing sabotage and you're toast.

I never wanted to play this game actually. A friend of mine convinced me to buy it and played once. just once. The only reason I have so many hours is because I played mostly alone with those retarded NPC's (I'm not roping in Artie of course). I loved this game once i began to learn the inner working's of it. Its kinda sad to think I did a better job memorizing medical effects and crafting recipes from barotruama then my Spanish notes. I think anyone with the patience to understand how each component of the ship and even the people in your crew effects your outcome of survival should definitely get this. Its of course more fun with friends but I still found joy by myself.

It's much better since I downloaded a few years ago. Bots still clunky (could have more specific or complex commands) but definitely not game breaking. Performance kinda sucks on multiplayer but could be related to your set up and mods installed. If you're on the fence you should pick it up.

I almost feel bad for giving this a not recommended, because I know there's probably a community of submarine-sim people for whom this game is a dream. For me the game is impenetrably boring. Unless you are the captain, there is little to no feedback on anything you do. It's not very satisfying. I think this game would be a lot better if more people than the captain could tell what was going on.

Although my playtime may look promising, most of my time in this game was spent creating custom submarines and systems. If you're a fan of spending your time ranting about why the ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ door won't open and close the way you want it to while looking upon a structure that may or may not be suitable for deep sea travel, then this game is for you. The gameplay itself is very nice and offered me and my crew fun experiences until the very end! (Btw, if you want, check out my mods for custom subs)

Barotrauma ticks so many boxes for me. From playing solo to playing with friends, this game consistently leaves me immersed in the universe that is Europa. Very much looking forward to the Home and Harbour Expansion that is expected to release next year. 10/10 for me

The game can be great fun with friends if you can deal with the jank and the bugs that are a constant with this experience. There are numerous issues that have been in the game for a long time yet nothing has been done to fix them. If you can get a group of friends together, you'll have a blast with this. If not, I cannot recommend this at all.

I LOVE this game. its so beautifully made, the customization and the way you can play in just about any way you want is so amazing. My one and only complaint is that sometimes npc movement and logic are a little iffy so it makes it really not as fun to play singleplayer, but its still fun enough that ive put in hours and hours in singleplayer mode

Get Soundproof walls, it will make it less noisy. Play with a crew of either AI or other players to whatever chaos that the group regularly gets up to in a rather small quiet and otherwise uneventful at times tube. ONLY get extras of any roll once someone has filled most every roll for maximization of crafting.

Barotrauma is not just a game, it's a full-body experience in underwater regret. It's what happens when you mix Space Station 13 with Das Boot, give everyone tools they shouldn't have, and drop the whole thing in a crushing black ocean filled with alien horrors and sociopathic med students pretending to be mechanics. Let me be very clear: I have never completed a single mission. Not one. Not even close. Every play session ends the same way, someone overdoses on morphine, the clown steals the nuclear reactor, the captain has a stroke mid-order, and I end up waist-deep in flooding ballast tanks, welding doors shut like a lunatic while the oxygen runs out and everyone screams over proximity chat like it’s the Titanic’s final Discord call. And yet...I love it. I can’t stop. I will always come back to Barotrauma. To weld more doors. To cut more holes in the hull. To intentionally hotwire the oxygen generator and act confused when everyone asphyxiates. Barotrauma is a game where every player is a disaster, and not just a casual, “oops I opened the wrong valve” kind of disaster. I mean full-blown “the security officer just spaced the medic because he thought he looked suspicious” energy. It’s like Among Us for engineering students with brain damage. The best part? The sub designer. This thing is a gift from the masochistic gods. Want to build a 12-deck floating cathedral that turns on like a lawnmower from 1913? Go for it. Want to cram a nuclear reactor, two airlocks, a jail cell, and a functional sex dungeon into a sardine can and call it “The Flesh Wound”? You can. You should. You must. I’ve spent more hours in the sub designer than actually playing the game. Why? Because designing a sub feels like playing God with duct tape. But unlike God, you have to test your creation by riding it into the gaping, irradiated asshole of Europa's ocean, hoping the junction boxes don't catch fire and that Ensign Dipshit doesn't mistake the ballast pump for a vending machine. Every run is a miracle. You start with hope—"Maybe this time, we’ll work together and complete the mission.” Five minutes later, someone’s bleeding out in the airlock, the captain is unconscious in his own vomit, and there’s a moloch chewing through the aft hull while I scream “WHO OPENED THE CLOWN ROOM?” and furiously weld myself into a closet out of spite. This isn’t a game about winning. This is a game about surviving long enough to find out how the sub will betray you next. Or how the guy that's been playing harmonica for ten minutes will accidentally open the wrong hatch and flush half the crew into the abyss, again.

I was thinking about saying no but I've been real addicted to this game since I pirated it then bought it, the AI on the bots is like 20 years behind, my mechanic bot kept going back and forward instead of fixing anything and sometimes they just decide to swim out of the ship and die, the game takes long to load and sometimes it just crashes on multiplayer games, you can't look at google for more than 5 seconds or It'll crash the entire game, I do enjoy it even with all the shitcode though, Praise the Honkmother :D (Praise be the Husk father too >:D)
