I'm a huge Sanrio fan. I love this game and I've had a lot of fun with it, BUT I will say that it started as a mobile game and still very much plays as a mobile game. There is A LOT of timekeeping in this game-- like... A LOT. You're pretty much required to log in every day to make any sort of progress, which won't be some people's cup of tea. I'm sort of to the point after just over 100 hours that I don't have much left to do other than gardening and preparing cabins for new visitors. I recommend this game ONLY if you're okay with the borderline obnoxious timekeeping and paying $40-$60 for what is simply a ported mobile game.

The dialogue in this game is absolute gold. I gave My Melody three pink lattes and she’s like "Oh, I was hoping for something like this." Because really My Melody? You wanted me to rock up with 3 pink lattes? Girl, how many do you need?? I know it's just game dialog but it makes me chuckle every time. I gave Chococat yet another History of Chocolate book and he still says "I’ve been looking for this for days!" Like I haven’t been handing you those same books for weeks 😭

A realistic review of the game from someone who loves cozy games and played HKIA for 150+ hours.
If I was to give this game a star rating, it would be a 3/5 stars, with the extra star being rather generous.
Now before I start, I want to say that the game can be very enjoyable. But that comes completely from *some* of the story and the overall existing cuteness of Sanrio characters. I think if this game wasn't Sanrio, it wouldn't be nearly as loved as it is.
The game play started out as mobile, and it's very obvious that it was from the game play and overall appearance. But also the biggest factor you can tell it's mobile, is also the reason why what should be a cozy and relaxing game has made me crash out multiple times.
It was originally a game on a subscription based platform. Which means they have gone out of their way to drag everything out as much as possible, just to make sure you keep throwing $$$ at apple.
It will literally brick your save file if you try to time travel, trying to punish you if you want to progress the unnecessarily long quests.
Too many of the quests have random "Come back tomorrow" moments just to have a 5 second finishing to the quest the next day. Not to mention the resource grind can be stressful even *end game*.
They also made the way you unlock progression through friendship levels with the characters, which is still based of resources and daily limits to again inflate playtime with no real meat. And sometimes the "rewards" for spending literal months on someone's friendship, is literally just more months of work toward a goal with no real reward once again.
They also make mistakes like not planning on people jumping up sides of cliffs to skip the annoying stamina bar climbing, and then later in a patch wordlessly nerf it so you can't without stamina penalty. This wouldn't be such a problem if the stamina nerd didn't make you *barely* able to make it up a tall cliff with FULLY upgraded stamina.
Also wordlessly took away another exploit that turned an already long quest into and *even* longer one/
ENDING SPOILER:
In the end, once you have gone through and made best friends with all the characters (Wish Me Mell being unnecessarily hard for literally no reason, something everyone complains about) you get a cut scene at the end with a song and dance of the characters celebrating your achievement. And where it was cute, I couldn't fully enjoy it as a PC player because it was literally so grainy and crunchy because they couldn't be bothered to make it better for non mobile players. The reward for months of work was in early 2000s youtube quality and was just another disappointment on the others.
There's more things I'm sure I'm missing out on, like the fact they make the visitors rotation purposely dragged out to, once again inflate that time. Or the summer event costing an ungodly amount of shells for shop items, a random collectible that you get from slowly swimming or having a friend collect. And since it's not used in high amounts for anything else I've seen, you don't really know to collect them until the even is there ruining your shell supply. Not to mention the rotation of items in the shop is as bad as Disney Dreamlight and you can have a chance to just not get a single item because you couldn't afford it when it's there.
But TLDR:
I would neither recommend nor not recommend the game. It truly depends on if you can mindlessly come back every single day to grind out possibly up to 2 hours every day, just for half assed rewards or just to be told "come back tomorrow!". Its only win is it's cute and got some funny interactions between characters. Also they have no problem with leaving crusty mobile things that don't translate well to PC.
If you were ever one to time travel in Animal Crossing, I do NOT recommend this game.
A very cute game that has a lot of charm and potential.
This game is very cute. That is, in my opinion, its biggest selling point. Cozy games in general are mired by having so many poor entries into the genre. This is one that actually has a lot of good qualities. It's very simple, yet it is still fun enough to keep returning to. It is very visually appealing, has a calming aspect to it, is good if you want to have a game just to play for a bit every day.
My qualms with this game are that it can easily burn you out or bore you. Getting on daily to do quests can easily kind of make you tired of the game. So, for me, that just means that I have to not really fixate on doing the quests and stuff every day. Just a note I had.

As a 17-year-old guy, this game has single-handedly cured the emotional trauma that hours of Dota 2 had given me. I transitioned from screaming at teammates in ranked matches to calmly picking apples with Hello Kitty and friends and honestly? I've never been happier.
Before this game, I had trust issues, anger issues, and a mild caffeine addiction. Now? I smile at butterflies, collect seashells, and decorate my adorable island home like I'm on HGTV. My KD ratio may be zero, but my serotonin is through the roof.
Hello Kitty Island Adventure didn’t just heal me it spiritually realigned my chakras. I’ve bonded with anthropomorphic animals who actually appreciate my presence. No one flames me here. No one tells me to uninstall. They just give me cute outfits and praise me for baking cookies.
In conclusion, this game is a masterpiece. 10/10. Would trade a decade of ranked games for one more picnic with My Melody.

Although the graphics are adorable and the general vibe is lovely, I can't glaze this game just because I love Sanrio
This game is shallow and lacks depth and the quests and general progress drags on for too long it's not just a "slow pace" it's a pace that stalls to keep your attention for as long as possible before you realize how shallow this half baked game is compared to its price tag of a full game.
this game is too expensive for a half baked game (if u add the deluxe it's even more ridiculous)
and by that I mean the bugs where fish are swimming in the air and the critters are stuck underground, or the quests and/or the npcs randomly vanishing into thin air and not appearing again until a few hours or the next day(real time)...etc
halfway to later in the game the quests drag on for too long where you're only able to finish one quest or a part of a quest a day.... why exactly did I pay for the deluxe game just to get a free to play experience!?
or even worse, quests that require you to gather or craft large amounts of items in this game where the resources you can gather are limited per day
even if you use the flowers to respawn resources, it spawns even less resources than the start of the day, and it feels like a waste to use multiple flowers on a single resource, so you waste hours of your day gathering all kinds of resources so it doesn't go to waste before using your next flower.
The game feels dull like a husk esp when you're given multiple responses to choose from in a quest, usually this is where your choice matters in other games and changes the story or at the very least the npc's next line... but it doesn't matter which option you choose in this game, the npcs will say a line that fits all the options.
I'd rather not have the choice to respond and just be immersed in the quest story rather than that realization hitting every time I choose a response, It takes you out of the experience tbh.
I will continue to play this game and hopefully get all the achievements, but until these things are fixed, I personally can not recommend this game.

Might get looked at like a weirdo for playing this as a grown ass man but I don't care games fun as hell no regrets hahaha. I don't like anything Sanrio aside from Aggretsuko and I still enjoy the vibes. Easiest way to describe the game is if Hello Kitty was an Animal Crossing game it does a few things different but overall I think it's quite similar at least I think so anyway. The only con is the daily limit to progress but I ain't looking to play this for 10+ hours a day so I'm good. Easy recommend if you like cozy games because it's hella cute lol.

Too expensive for what it offers. I feel $15-$30 would be reasonable. I've also been unable to play the game whilst offline, thanks to Denuvo.
Fun game but simply not worth it currently because of the aforementioned issues.

Look, I have been waiting for this game to go on Sale and when I finally saw the 30$ sale I bought it and was very excited to play it and then...I just didn't like it. Now, I do absolutely love the cuteness of the characters and world, the Sanrio design is what makes it that pretty BUT like some steam players already said... if it wasn't marketed with the Sanrio world then... I feel like it wouldn't be all that liked. It's not bad per se, it's just not enough to justify the original price and the sale price. Honestly I would pay $5 dollar for a game like this, and even then I feel like it would be a waste of money. It didn't felt engaging at all, it gave me that feeling that I have always had when trying to play a mobile game: Open it with enthusiasm and getting bored within the first hour and never wanting to pick it up again. :(

Pretty chill game that's cute and fun. Has a lot more to offer than I initially thought. I wouldn't say it takes the place of animal crossing despite similar elements but I enjoy it all the same. It's a well made game imo. Customization is basic in places but gradually you unlock different things to wear. Overall, if you love Hello Kitty & Friends in general I recommend this game.

I didn't expect much from this game, but it's surprisingly varied with a lot of things to do. The gameplay isn't as reminiscent of Animal Crossing as it a crossbreed between a hotel simulator of decorating rooms and Zelda BOTW's open world mechanics, such as exploration, dungeons, crafting, and stamina. The limited events and daily maximum spawn rate of crafting materials is a bit of a shortcoming of this game, but at least that prevents me from playing the game all day.
Absolutely worth picking up for a Sales event. The Deluxe edition is only really interesting if you are a collector who wants all of the furniture available in past events.

I don't play World of War Craft..... I'm playing Hello Kitty Island Adventure!
Seriously though, I might have done it for the bit, but this game really is great! Super cute, runs very well on PC, the side quests are fun and engaging, and the characters are refreshingly unique with their own personalities, and variations to the their dialog. If you like Animal Crossing New Horizons, you should definitely give this a try! I put over 500 hours into ACNH on the Switch, and will definitely be putting some time into this Island Resort. The best part is, there isn't a Tanooki waiting to bash your knee caps in if you don't pay your mortgage..... because you don't have one! Island currency = whatever you can find, and that is a beautiful thing.

The game is pretty nice, casual little village park game. What blew my mind was how it has Retsuko of all people in there cause I didn't even know she was Sanrio/Hello Kitty based. The first clue I had about her was one of the others mention someone screaming at the volcano area like they were singing Death Metal. "Death Metal? In Hello Kitty!? Who could that possibly be?" Then as I climb the Volcano like it's Skyrim, I see a Red Panda. "Red Panda? Metal? It can't be...Retsuko!? How did you get here!?"
My biggest and only real complaint is the Camera. Unlike in Dreamlight Valley, you can't control the camera to get a better look around, or zoom out. There's probably a mod to change that, but I don't really like looking for mods early in a game.

Comparable to Animal Crossing on the Gamecube. More collection focused. Not as many clothes. Friendship system feels like Stardew Valley. Slower day progression than Stardew, faster than Animal Crossing.

Very cute and adorable game. I love interacting with all of Hello Kitty's friends and the Sanrio characters. Fair warning that you have to be patient with this game and also be okay with not getting to do everything in a singular day. Also note that in game time is equal to real life time. Do not be fooled by the day and night cycle in the game. Think of it like animal crossing in that sense. If you like animal crossing, I recommend this game!
Otherwise: 10/10!

Literally the only bad thing in this game is the Max Player Cap at 2.
I love this game, especially in combination with CS2 case opening as a reward everytime I finish a Quest as well as a shot(water) when I increase a Friendship Level.
Unbeatable game 12/10 would trade my Classic Knife | Urban Masked for it.
Ps if you have good crafts or fitting skins for Neo-Noir loadout please let me know (don't recommend me pandora's box, I'm poor)

After being exclusive to Apple Arcade, Hello Kitty Island Adventure finally launched for PC and console on January 30th. As a long-time fan of cozy games—and someone who spent an embarrassing amount of time on Animal Crossing in 2020—I was eager to jump in. After a few months of gameplay and spending $60 on the deluxe edition, did I decide if it was it worth it? Here’s my take.
Visually, Hello Kitty Island Adventure is undeniably charming. The colorful world and cute characters make it a joy to play initially, and I often found myself wandering around just for the sake of it. The excitement of unlocking new areas and meeting new Sanrio characters kept me engaged early on. However, as I progressed, I struggled to find reasons to keep playing.
One of my biggest disappointments was the lack of meaningful gameplay. Most of the so-called 80 hours of heartfelt quests are basic fetch quests, and I eventually resorted to button-mashing through the dialogue because it didn’t feel engaging. Characters have minimal dialogue—usually just a single sentence—and interacting with them doesn’t even raise friendship levels. Instead, you have to gift-spam them once per real-life day, making relationships feel more like a chore than a rewarding feature.
The game also lacks skill-building mechanics. Instead, you unlock tools that allow you to access new areas, such as a snorkel for underwater exploration. While I enjoyed the automatic nature of cooking and the satisfaction of discovering new recipes, there wasn’t much else driving me to continue playing after unlocking everything.
The deluxe edition included various outfits, furniture from past holiday events, and a starter bundle of materials. I do wonder if some of these items helped me unlock things faster—like additional cabins and easier crafting—but it didn’t feel like $20 worth of extra content, so I do regret upgrading. These things were nice, but not game-changing, although I was grateful for the clothing options because it seems like the stores sell the exact same items every day.
One of the biggest limitations of Hello Kitty Island Adventure is its real-time gameplay mechanics. However, this may be a selling point to those with limited time. Many quests are locked behind friendship levels, which means you can only progress so much per day. While this structure makes sense for a mobile game on Apple Arcade, it feels restrictive as a full-priced release.
While I had fun with Hello Kitty Island Adventure, its appeal faded over time. The game thrives on its cute aesthetic and relaxing vibes, but beyond that, it doesn’t offer much depth. If you enjoy daily check-in games with a strong focus on collecting and decorating, this might be a great fit for you. However, if you’re looking for a more immersive long-term game, you may find yourself losing interest quickly.

I've only played about ehh, 15 hours or so at this point, but so far so good. It's essentially a cute, Sanrio-flavored ACNH with more of a story line, a much bigger map with a variety of areas (dessert, mountain, swamp, etc.) to break up the tropical island vibes, and, so far, plenty of things to keep you busy.
If you're not used to the cutesy "friendship is magical" aesthetic, I will say that it's fairly easily overlooked for all that this game has going for it. (And of course, if you ARE into that, or just Sanrio in general, then you're in for a treat!). So far, one of my favorite things about this game is how dynamic the map is and your ability to move around it. You can swim freely (at least, once you've crafted your flippers) AND dive (I haven't gotten to the diving part yet, but I'm close, and it looks pretty fun), plus you can climb most cliff sides and vertical surfaces using a stamina meter (think Breath of the Wild) that can be increased over time.
One of the few things I haven't gotten into yet though is decorating, which currently feels a bit limited (though that very well may be due to how early on in the game I am still). I know that's a big draw for many people, so I'll update this review as I go along.
All things considered, this is quite lovely and has so far exceeded my expectations. It's a fun and whimsical way to relax and pass the time.

The game is cute and looks great but that’s about where the good review ends. I played for about 6 hours and really enjoyed it. I tried to keep playing but I got so bored. I don’t mind games where you have to log in every day to make progress but I just don’t care enough with this game. I bought it on sale and still think I paid too much for it. A $10 price tag would be much more appropriate

Hello Kitty Island Adventure is a charming and surprisingly expansive cozy life sim that captures the spirit of friendship, exploration, and lighthearted creativity in a brightly colored, feel-good package. Developed by Sunblink in partnership with Sanrio, the game originally debuted on Apple Arcade in 2023 and later expanded to platforms like Nintendo Switch and PC, bringing with it a warm blend of animal-friend-style interaction, island management, and wholesome storytelling. While it may seem at first glance like a title meant solely for young children or hardcore Sanrio fans, Hello Kitty Island Adventure turns out to be an engaging and well-crafted experience that appeals to a broad audience looking for a relaxed yet goal-driven game world.
The game begins with a crash landing—your custom character and a group of Sanrio characters arrive on a once-thriving theme park island, now deserted and in disrepair. It’s your job to help rebuild the island and restore joy to its whimsical locations, all while reconnecting with characters like Hello Kitty, My Melody, Kuromi, Badtz-Maru, and more. Each character has a unique personality, preferences, and backstory that plays into the gameplay loop. The friendship system lies at the heart of the game: you raise relationship levels by talking, crafting gifts, completing character-specific quests, and decorating personalized cabins. As you deepen bonds, you unlock more dialogue, side-stories, and abilities that help access new parts of the island.
Gameplay is a satisfying mix of exploration, light platforming, crafting, puzzle-solving, and collecting. The island itself is vast and divided into several distinct biomes—from icy peaks to sunken ruins—each with its own challenges and hidden treasures. The platforming is gentle but occasionally requires careful jumping or gliding, and there are light puzzles sprinkled across the map that reward you with resources, collectibles, or quest progress. The crafting system includes food recipes, furniture, clothing, and various tools, all made from materials you gather through foraging, fishing, or exploration. There’s a rhythm to the gameplay that’s calming yet rewarding: explore, gather, build, gift, and repeat. While the systems are simple, the sheer amount of things to do makes it easy to lose hours just running errands for your favorite Sanrio pals.
The visuals are a standout. The soft 3D models, rich pastel palette, and joyful animations bring the Sanrio world to life in a way that feels respectful to the brand and inviting to new players. Each environment is bursting with tiny details—fluttering butterflies, glowing mushrooms, twinkling water effects—and the character animations are expressive and endearing. The soundtrack, while somewhat repetitive in long sessions, is cheerful and ambient enough to stay in the background without becoming a distraction.
What sets Hello Kitty Island Adventure apart from other cozy games is its balance between structure and freedom. Unlike Animal Crossing or Stardew Valley, which lean toward sandbox freedom or farming management, this game presents clear objectives and a story progression that guides you without feeling rigid. However, there are drawbacks. Certain progression mechanics—such as the real-time limits on how many gifts you can give per day or how often certain characters show up—borrow heavily from mobile-game design, which can feel like artificial gating to more traditional gamers. The pace is slow by design, encouraging daily check-ins, but some may find that limits immersion in longer play sessions. Additionally, the camera can be awkward during climbing or platforming segments, and the controls, while mostly smooth, occasionally feel a bit floaty.
Multiplayer is another highlight, allowing players to explore the island together, complete tasks, and interact in a shared space. It brings a sense of community and fun to what is already a very warm, inviting game. Seasonal events and regular updates keep the world feeling fresh, adding new cosmetics, areas, or limited-time quests that encourage players to return and engage with their favorite characters.
In conclusion, Hello Kitty Island Adventure is a surprisingly robust and heartfelt life simulation game that blends wholesome storytelling, light adventure mechanics, and the enduring charm of Sanrio’s universe. While it may not satisfy those looking for deep simulation or open-ended sandbox creativity, it excels in delivering a relaxing, emotionally uplifting experience that encourages connection, kindness, and curiosity. Whether you're a longtime Hello Kitty fan or just someone looking for a cozy break from heavier games, this island getaway is well worth the visit.

If you like ACNH, you'll dig this game. The quests are simple and fun, it has a variety of environments to explore, and it's quite polished. It's not a challenging game whatsoever, perfect for cozy gamers. The only thing that bugs me is that the camera auto-pans around as you move so if you're sensitive to motion sickness this is not the game for you.

I really like that this game is very self-paced, and there's something to do everyday, since you get daily quests. There's plenty of things to pick up around the island for crafting and cooking, so you never really run out of anything. Also, I really like that when you give gifts to the characters, they usually give you items that you can gift to the other characters. It's like the perfect little cycle :)

I started playing HKIA through Apple Arcade and played a little over 80 hours on my ipad. I shifted over to PC a few months ago and started over and have since played 80 hours in this version as well. I was disappointed when I realized that the city was not unlockable in the PC version, but I do like how items feel easier to obtain on the PC version (unless it was an update across both platforms since I switched). The game is adorable and I find it relaxing to play. It is quite text heavy at times.
