Easy recommendation for Megan Man fanatics and tight patform enjoyers. If you don't fit either profile, like me, 30XX is a *maybe*? 30XX is a hard game in many aspects. Complex platforming labyrinths only further convolute as you go on. Bosses and mini-bosses can leave you an inch from death for the next level. Optional challenges rooms can end up killing your run if you bite off more than you can chew. This is the good difficulty in 30XX. You can master these elements and overcome it. Given its roguelite nature, you are expected to do so. Augments you find in a run can fill up your own shortcomings to round you out, or you can go all-in on a certain build to maximize power. The unfair difficulty stems from 30XX's punishing need to scale. Late-game bosses are absolutely damage sponges. Abundant enemies litter the level as you progress. The biggest con here is 30XX's ostensibly deep and varied augment / build variety is actually more shallow than once thought. You NEED damage to sustain. If your RNG is poor, you'll need to recycle augments to roll shops to force a damage augment. While mitigating RNG is a game itself, and great players can overcome bad luck through sheer skill, the majority may find this very frustrating. That is why if you don't fit the profiles I mentioned before, you may find this game overtly difficult and not worth the bother.

Admittedly this is a very good game, waaaaay better than the content (ie mega man) that it's based on, but the higher difficulties are a bit over engineered, it would require some hardcore luck to actually beat the hardest settings. Granted I'm just okay at this stuff, but I know people who tend to excel at such content and just saying, not a single one could max out the entropy in this game and actually get past the first level. But if just to go middle of the road with the difficulty this is a very fun solid gaming experience. I kinda hope eventually there'll be a 40XX.

Honestly, one of my favorite games of recent memory. Super addictive finding builds with each character, while having some of the smoothest controls in any 2D game I've played. If you've enjoyed any of the Mega Man games (specifically X) this will scratch that itch and burrow itself inside your brain folds.

Posting this to help balance out the mixed rating. I’ve played around 100 hours on the Switch. Many of the negative reviews seem to stem from people expecting a game with 20xx visuals, 20xx gameplay, or simply misunderstand the mechanics of 30xx. To be fair, the game doesn’t do a great job of explaining the strength of the weaponry and abilities. That said, the weapons and character options are incredibly strong and fun. I highly recommend reading each effect carefully and testing them on the training dummy after each stage clear to evaluate damage output and mana gain. The depth really shines once you dig in.

If you like Mega Man X and/or roguelikes, you'll like it. I've very much enjoyed my time with it so far.
