Genuinely brilliant.
Every aspect of it's presentation and gameplay is polished to a mirror sheen. Every weapon/ability, level, and target time is curated and balanced to cater to precisely how deep you want to get into it. You can get good at the standard routes for Gold medals, find new but easy-to-identify shortcuts to get Ace medals, and figure out ingenious skips on top of that to get the Developer medals, with possible times going well below that depending on how creative you get.
It does a fantastic job of rewarding you for the time you put into it and really motivates you to engage with it through the eyes of a speedrunner, enabling a great degree of both skill expression and ingenuity to create high-skill out-of-the-box routes. If you want to take it further and need some extra dopamine to grind away at it, the NeonLite mod adds 3 additional medals over the developer times so you can strive for peak unga bunga speed, among tons of other QoL changes.
The visuals are crisp and incredibly readable despite the rapid pace of gameplay, and the music is charming and balances zen and pulse-pounding vibes delicately to set the mood for each environment. As far as the writing goes, I didn't find it outright unbearable outside a small handful of genuinely cringeworthy scenes. But it's all tongue-in-cheek and doesn't take itself too seriously, and certainly didn't detract from my overall experience. But maybe that's because I have prior experience with anime and its eccentricities, so take it with a grain of salt. All the same, its functions as a nice break from the manic loop of solving and speeding through the levels of a chapter, so it definitely has its place in my opinion.
On the whole, super-strong recommendation for anyone interested in high-octane movement and puzzle-platformers.
