DEVS. READ THIS. Just do what Rust did. they added a setting for PC players so they can disable and enable censorships on nudity, and console players simply can't, they are stuck on the censorship. THIS WOULD COMPLETLY FIX THE PROBLEM. It's fine for crossplay because even if you see slightly different things because of the censorship it's not so bad because PC players won't have to lose the immersion they once had while playing this game. And also because it doesn't change anything of the core gameplay and everyone can play just fine. I truly believe this will save the game on PC.

Since the console update dropped, figured I’d circle back and update this review. Rig used for this revisit: 7800X3D, 4090 OC, 64GB RAM, NVMe, Windows 11 24Hxx. Basically, on top of key story content getting censored, just so the game could get ESRB approval for a console disc release, they’ve quietly downgraded the PC version’s graphics. Lighting is partially broken now, some of it is prebaked, but the quality is poor, and in certain spots you’ll see this weird checkerboard style grid surrounding the baked lighting. It sticks out bad. Textures have taken a hit, some things are noticeably less legible, resolution has been clipped in spots, and overall texture quality feels softer than before. A few world models had their LODs retooled, but not for the better. RoN has always suffered from LOD pop in, even on epic settings, native 4K, with DLAA, but it’s worse now. Specifically in Neon Tomb’s lower basement bathrooms, near the “peeing” neon signs, you can stand right in front of the hand dryers and watch them pop into a low detail model just a few feet away. That’s unacceptable with everything maxed out. I’ve also run into multiple instances where civilians are bugged out and flat out refuse to surrender, beanbags, pepperballs, flashes, stingers, nothing works. They stand there locked in some dead animation. This was never an issue before the console update, not like this. So on top of new bugs, we’ve lost graphical fidelity, got the storyline censored, and the overall experience has just gotten worse compared to 1.0. Honestly, it’s disappointing, feels like we all paid for the proper PC experience, and now we’re stuck playing a console version instead.

I play on PC, why the ever fuck do I gotta care about console requirements and why does it affect me? Give us to option to toggle crossplay, which will allow us to enable or disable censored content.

Potential customers beware. Do not buy this game. Do not support a company like VOID Interactive. The game wasn’t perfect initially, but now they are choosing to censor it. They made their money from you—the PC players on Steam—and now, out of sheer greed, they’re appeasing console market regulators by censoring the game to meet their demands. Their own Community Manager (Kaminsky) confirmed on Steam that no matter how the PC community feels, this is a done deal. There will be no option to keep the original version or avoid the forced update. To chase console sales, they’re showing utter apathy and throwing their original Steam/PC supporters under the bus. Unsurprisingly, many paying customers are voicing their anger—as is their right. This is not “review bombing.” It’s legitimate backlash against fundamentally altering a paid product post-sale. And like other studios before them, the developers will no doubt claim they are the victims here, while friendly “game journalists” rush in to defend this anti-consumer practice. Don’t fall for it.

Censoring the game that is known for being dark, gritty, and unapologetic is insane. This game is SUPPOSED to be uncomfortable and offending. It's SUPPOSED to make you feel disgusted and horrible about what you're seeing. It's supposed to show the violent and (unfortunately) real world that Police and Swat operate in. Forcing this update on PC players after they have already given you their money is fucking disgusting and you shouldn't support this.

actually really liked this game, but censoring this game on pc completely goes against the original promise we received for this game even after the level fiasco, nerfing dismemberment is not cool. I can't support it, and won't support future projects/games from this team.

Censorship because of a console release nobody asked for. This game sacrifices the best part of it's experience: the Immersion. Censoring key elements like the nudity, child abuse and gore only result is "cleaner" less "stomach turning" scenery which made RoN special.

Imagine a game thats rated for adults 18+ then censoring content in said game because it's not suitable for those under 18. Then whats the point of the 18+ rating? Let's see if this is the only thing they do, I can imagine more changes like this are to come. Maybe i'll play it when they undo the censorship?

VOID interactive is censoring the game to appeal to the unwashed console audiences. I bought and supported the game mostly because of its authenticity, even though the performance and balance issues were abundant. Now I cannot recommend it, as some of the more interesting edges that made it stand out are being sanded down. VOID Interactive delenda est.

F*ck you Microsoft and F*ck you Sony Here the censorship list Dismemberment (Gore): Shooting a suspect while he's already dead will not cause additional gore. Note: The gore itself isn't changed just his timing that presence only while the suspect is alive. Assumption: If you spam shoot a suspect only the bullets that killed him will take effect gore wise. Imagery: Some characters that have being tortured or mistreaded will look less so. Example 1: At the mission Narcos graphic elements of the tortured police informant still preserve brutality such as missing eyes and fingers. But the entire imagery is toned down. Example 2: At the mission Twisted Nerve the kid this is having a seizure will play an sleeping animation instead. Assumption: This could take this in also other missions. Assumption 2: Next missions DLC's will be developed in the intent to not cause problems with Sony and Microsoft. Nudity: Nude civilians and suspects will be more covered. Example: In the mission Lethal Obsession the ghillies suit will be more covering. Assumption: The uncovered woman at Hide and Seek could be also altered even at other missions. General Assumptions: 1: Even if those changes don't seams too big. They will definitely affect future developments of the game. 2: Sony and Microsoft could double down and ask for more changes.

This review will stay up as long as the censorship and bad practices remain in the game, this is not what any of us paid for. Do you like censorship? do you like when someone funamentally changes what you own without recourse? If not, demand changes. If you bought the game and disagree with the actions of VOID interactive, leave a review and warn others, if you did not, then do not consider to buy it until they back off this action. Do not support censorship, this is deserved backlash for fundamentally changing the tone of he game in order to access new markets. They could have only changed those new versions for the new platforms and give a choice to the PC players as an option toggle, but they didn't. They chose the middle finger you and the whole PC communiy that founded and supported this project for many years. This review will stay up as long as the censorship and bad practices remain in the game, this is not what any of us paid for.

If you censor the game after I bought it I better get a refund. You know whats funny? They mentioned censoring not being able to cut off limbs from dead bodies. In Chivalry 2 I can dismember dead players and that game is rated M for Mature. I can cut off their head after they die, throw it on the floor, tea bag it, pick it up and throw it. The devs are full of it. Chivalry 2 may not be as gory, but the game is also on consoles. Refund me please.

The latest update to *Ready or Not* has left a sour taste in the mouths of many fans. While the developers claim these are "targeted visual changes," the end result feels like a watered-down version of the gritty realism the game originally promised. What once aimed to be a brutal, authentic tactical shooter now seems to be inching closer to a censored experience tailored for a broader, less mature audience. One of the most glaring changes is in the *Twisted Nerve* mission. Previously, the girl convulsing was an intense, unsettling detail that drove home the horrors of the situation. Now, she’s simply depicted as sleeping. This change severely undercuts the emotional weight and realism of the scenario. Instead of portraying the raw consequences of violence and trauma, the game now glosses over it, making the scene feel sanitized and toothless. The removal or adjustment of nudity in *A Lethal Obsession* is another example of creative compromise. This isn’t about being gratuitous — it’s about realism. When you're simulating high-stakes operations in dangerous environments, stripping away uncomfortable truths weakens immersion. Editing out such elements because they might offend some viewers risks alienating the core audience that came for authenticity, not a polished PR-friendly product. Changes in *Hide and Seek* and *Narcos* where female hostages now wear underwear are also frustrating. These characters were portrayed as victims in horrifying circumstances. Their vulnerability was part of what made those missions disturbing and impactful. Now, the updates feel like they're protecting the audience from the grim reality of hostage scenarios rather than portraying them honestly. Another strange choice is the revision of the ‘Photo of Minors’ model in the *23 Megabytes a Second* mission. Rather than removing the mission entirely or handling it with maturity, the devs opted for a visual adjustment and vague narrative clarification. It comes across as an awkward patch — a half-measure designed to dodge controversy rather than confront uncomfortable topics with care and depth. Disabling post-mortem dismemberment is arguably the most baffling change. While the feature remains intact for living characters (which is already brutal), the choice to remove it after death is both inconsistent and hollow. The brutality of combat doesn’t end the moment an enemy is killed — in fact, it's part of what makes *Ready or Not* such an uncompromising tactical shooter. Removing this detail feels more like censorship than refinement. These changes collectively signal a troubling direction for the game’s development. *Ready or Not* made its name by embracing mature content and treating its audience like adults. Now, it feels like it’s buckling under pressure — from platforms, politics, or a need to chase mainstream approval. The fear is that more of these "targeted visual changes" will chip away at what made the game stand out in the first place. There’s also the lack of transparency and communication. While the devs included a link to a dev briefing, these changes were made quietly and retroactively. Players who supported the game from its early days are seeing the content they paid for being altered or removed without their input. That feels like a betrayal of trust — especially from a studio that once prided itself on community-driven development. Worst of all, none of these changes improve gameplay. They're purely cosmetic adjustments aimed at toning things down. For a game that markets itself as “realistic” and “tactical,” the decision to soften hard-hitting scenes is disappointing. It raises questions about where the line will be drawn next — and whether this is the start of a slippery slope toward a fully sanitized experience. In short, this update is not an improvement. It’s a step back — a clear indication that *Ready or Not* may be losing its identity. If the developers continue down this path, they risk turning one of the most promising tactical shooters in years into just another generic, neutered title afraid to confront the brutal truths it once embraced.

UNFINISHED EARLY ACCESS TITLE / LOST POTENTIAL > Jesus christ Void, I wish it was just censorship that was the problem with this game. The game has been an absolute unfinished mess since the initial early-access steam launch a while back HOWEVER, there was always the context of "so much potential" and we had a lot to look forward too. Fast forward a couple of years and they've done f*** all, more maps and guns, but none of the meat and bones... so theres two massive problems with this game and the censoring is actually a secondary problem. This game is an excercise in mediocrity and has been from day 1, been a supporter for a long time and these guys made ALOT of money on the production of this with the early access release and virality but almost none of it filtered back into the game and ill explain why I feel this is the case: Years have passed and while they have delivered some stellar maps there are bugs still present to this day and it still feels like an early access title. - presentation: Many things promised and not delivered on, most of the maps in these games don't have bystanders/onlookers/reporters, no proper perimeter cordon or auxillary police units for most maps, no paramedics on standby, no swat snipers, police helicopters, trailer units don't show up in multiplayer still, you kinda feel like your just dumped on the map and it really pulls away from immersion. You cant rappel from any of the rooftops. for a game that supposedly touts its authenticity it often feels like they are almost there but never quite nail it. Many maps have come and gone like the fast-food map. Maps are often way bigger than they need to be with little objectives or stuff to do or see, lots of big empty open spaces or parts of the map that are wholesale never utilized. I don't actually have a problem with the use of AI textures in the game, a lot of them look surprisingly apt BUT it does highlight a lack of competency or willingness to produce content in the staff. lighting bugs and clipping models in the game often feels temporary or work-in-progress, whilst stellar in other areas. - removal of content / censorship: Many tools that were promised never came: halligan bars, helicopter IR optics, drones etc. Varying scenarios on maps like bomb defusal and active shooter have been removed in favour of unique curated objectives with little creativity that amount to terrorist hunt / hostage rescue and little else. You wont arrive to see first-responders and patrol officers shooting it out and setting up a cordon or proper barricade/siege scenario. A lot of features have been removed that extend further than censorship, great stuff like the ability for enemy NPC's to hide in closets and ambush SWAT have been removed for supposedly difficulty choices and yet hostages can still hide but can get stuck and brick your run. Don't seem to see any NPC's committing suicide when cornered anymore. the censorship is disgusting and highlight the already major lack of authenticity with the presentation in this game. They sold out their loyal long-time userbase for crossplay with console players on controllers, given the nature of gunplay in this game I can imagine most of us aren't interested in carrying people staring at the ceiling, Most people will turn crossplay off if presented with the option. - gameplay: Rules of engagement are confusing and often seem straight up bugged, S-rank runs are defined entirely by going non-lethal even when circumstances present justified use of force. Janky movement and Interacting especially when arresting subjects often leading to player death (it can be cancelled but even that is cumbersome), AI combat ability seems to fluctuate between that of a star wars stormtrooper and john wick even when the NPC's profile does not match their skill, ending missions will often consist of 5-10 minutes of awkward item hunting, backtracking and running around a map trying to find the gun that dropped and clipping into a table leg or behind a wall. for all the amazing animation work done, the fact that there is few interactions that get repeated over and over make them feel cheap. This game pretends to be "realistic" but very much sits in the "cinematic" category and exists in its current form as an ode to "lost potential". Its like the devs just gave up or couldn't figure it out and never really cared which is at odds with the enthusiasm and funding they received throughout its development. It feels like rather than driving this product to its peak and hiring more staff they instead kept the team super small so they could receive a larget cut of the sales, There no point in a sequel becasue you never finished the first game... regarding recent censorship, No reputation has been destroyed becasue VOID never established one in the first place, alot of community engagement but little actual substance. Considering how much money they've made they can absolutely do alot more for this game and maintain split versions for console and PC, this is an example of enshitification, lazy developers who have moved on to other projects and abandoned the product. Miss this one, if your looking for some more appealing swat simulators, older games like SWAT 4 mods like First Responders SEF fill that niche and hopefully one day we get the swat simulator we've dreamed of, because this aint it, it could be, but it aint.

Censoring a product that is already targeted and made exclusively for adults is incredibly lame, especially after saying you explicitly would not do that. But you got my $40, so who cares. Just pack it up and move along, you've farmed the PC userbase, now you'll release diluted content for console players for that extra cash. If you had just censored it for consoles exclusively, nobody would've cared, but in usual fashion PC games have to be enshіtified to appease the idiotic standards of consoles.

Never purchase from a company again if they censor their game long after you’ve already bought it. This practice needs to stop. It’s anti-consumer and should be made illegal in the future. Such behavior only damages the trust of us gamers. It inadvertently encourages piracy, which I strongly dislike. However, in the end, they were right about everything they criticized.

Censorship due to an upcoming console release is a great way to earn yourself a negative review. What a stupid decision. The Developers tweeted this in 2018: "Police/Swat Encounter Intense and violent situations which we will depict with no filter." I guess that was all just one big lie then.

Censorship for inclusion is a clear indication the development team doesn't know or listen to their target audience. And believing that any of the discussed changes could be warranted to prevent an AO rating on consoles is laughable. Last I checked, M is for mature not minors. How is it that every GTA has been able to get away with all of the same stuff that is being changed in RoN without having to do so for the sake of inclusion while still gaining an M rating? Nudity, drug use, sexuality and violence are all prevalent in every GTA and yet those are fine, M rating and all, but here it's suddenly a problem? Why? Because it treats it with a more mature hand and no tongue-in-cheek sarcasm? Either there's a massive double standard in the gaming industry and the ESRB (which is possible) or GTA's existence simply proves this isn't being done because of a rating at all. Censorship does nothing but obstruct informed discussions and has never equated to a positive outcome. This game covers mature themes and handles them in a mature manor. I will never forget the anger and disgust I felt from the level "Hide and Seek." And it made me grateful for those who try to prevent such real-world atrocities from happening. And it seems like toning that down prevents all new comers from understanding the full depth of what that section brutally emphasis. But hey, what do I know? Ultimately it'll be up to the community to decide. I do want the developers to know that I truly loved their game. It brought about discussions I never thought of having with friends I played with and those outside of the gaming space. I wish them nothing but the best and hope their changes work out for them on consoles, but I can no longer recommend the title as I cannot agree with censorship. If you're reading this and you think I'm out of it, I've lost the plot ... that's fine. But suppose, much like the catholic church once did, an artist you truly loved decided it was no longer appropriate for you to see certain content in their art? Would you be okay if they were to make that decision for everyone else after it had already been produced for the world to see? If you say "yes," then perhaps you're right and there's nothing wrong with censorship. If you say "no, art should be preserved as it was presented." Then you aren't for censorship either.

I seriously don't recommend any game from Void Interactive! They are all censoring this game because of consoles! I'm against censorship!> I recommend you play Zero Hour instead of this Ready or Not! Recent reviews dropped to a "mixed" rating after developers announced censorship in the PC version of Ready or Not to meet console requirements. To support crossplay between PC and consoles, developers applied the same censored version across all platforms, toning down or removing controversial content. Disappointed in the content censorship for the PC Version of the game due to the upcoming console versions being released, This review will stand as negative until the censorship is removed. Devs deserved to go broke! Censoring 2 years after the game release is unacceptable! Now that we know these devs can censored everything years after release, I will not be buying anything else from them! It's impossible to trust people like them! Raw Gameplay -> Censored Gameplay. I paid my money for the Rawness of this game, not for it to be censored so it can be ported to consoles. Not recommended unless they rollback their censorship update. If not, give me my money back, this isn't what I paid for. Post Censorship Update: obviously the censorship went through, but if that wasnt enough, they forced the OG community to get a CONSOLE PORT on an ORIGINALLY PC GAME. The graphical downgrade, reduction in overall seriousness, and callously telling the community that made you what you are today "f you" when it was OUR money that made this game possible. You gave the option for crossplay but not the option to keep the game in the state we paid for. Now this game is nothing we would have paid for. VOID Interactive has shown that they'll take away content, identity, AND community for cash.

In the past I would have recommended the game. At this point I would never recommend the product for 2 main reasons. Reason 1: This is one of the few games where its journey through early access into "full 1.0 release" has somehow taken more away from the game than it has added. Yes, more maps have been added (as DLC, 3 maps per, some cosmetics, and a few gun options), but SO MUCH game play has been removed. Suspects used to be more dynamic, hide in closets, take cover behind objects, etc. Now they laser you from pixel peak angles down a hallway and resist arrest while you're slamming them with pepperballs, beanbags, and gas grenades. The AI in early access was not perfect either, but all the players asked for were the AI to be toned down in terms of how accurate they were, and the fact that they were oddly aggressive across the board (there wasn't a ton of difference in enemy behavior in some of the AI updates). Instead, we lose a lot of the dynamic behaviors of the suspects, and lose the feeling of civilians acting realistically (like hiding in a closet because you are scared). On top of the AI slowly going downhill in terms of engaging gameplay, we also had large swaths of content removed from the game when they removed the ability to choose the mission type on the map you are playing. You now get a single mission type per map.....and no way to play the content that used to be there (like hostage modes, bomb diffusal, active shooter, barricaded suspects, etc.) All of that is gone from the game now in the name of "story" meanwhile it could have been made a different mode, or at least provided for use in multiplayer. So the point I am making with reason 1, is that the game has created more maps, but has slowly gutted more and more content from the game. Reason 2: The censorship of a game that the developers themselves said would not be censored. They literally broke ties with their publisher to not censor their game. YET, we see the pursuit of money is too important to stick to your word. Apparently the PC playerbase that has been buying your game, buying your DLC, supporting your kickstarter, is just not enough money? We can apparently go get fucked because we aren't enough money for VOID and thus, everything we already paid means literally nothing. We get our product altered and the quality of future content pre-censored because they want to specifically pursue a physical release (this was not needed if they went digital release). So in short, this is a money decision they made because you, as a player on steam, mean literally nothing to them. Do not give them what they want and buy this game. Play something that hopefully wont continue to be gutted by the developers like 6 Days in Fallujah or Ground Branch

Remove the censorship please. Its not about the volume but the principle. Nothing censored in this game prevented other games from shipping. If you need to for consoles because Microsoft and Sony demand it, then at least run a different model for the PC version. Its been done before and since it doesn't affect the map dimensions or the game-play please keep the PC version where its at. Heck if you have it perhaps a you-tuber mode of some-kind as has been done in other games can be used to help. But either way, these changes are not only not necessary, but blunt the shock of some of those horrific moments which the game is known for.

Is the game bad?
Absolutely not — quite the opposite, actually. The gunplay feels amazing, the mechanics are tight, and it’s a blast for anyone who enjoys solid FPS action or just wants to stomp on AIs for fun. So why the negative review? Simple: I’m joining the review bombing. Not because I hate the game — I love it. But I want to send a clear message to the ones really pulling the strings. Every decision they make has consequences, and this is ours. Do I regret buying the game? Not for a second. But I refuse to stay silent while executives in suits decide what’s “appropriate” for me, for us. The industry doesn’t get to glide by on good faith while quietly slipping in corporate-friendly decisions. And to those saying, “It’s just a small change, it won’t ruin the game...” That’s how it always starts. A tiny shift, an “innocent” tweak — until one day, the games you love are hollow shells with no soul, no personality, no edge. Fighting back early is how we preserve the things that make this industry worth caring about. If you’re okay with bland, flavorless shooters made to offend no one and excite even fewer — that’s your choice. But it’s not ours.
So speak up. Show them we’re paying attention. Let them know we’re angry — because silence only helps them win.

Censoring game on pc instead of just censoring the console plebs version will no longer be supporting and buying further dlcs for the game. While not offering refunds for censoring I was not sold a product censored. Turned to console garbage slop. edit: i have been banned from the forums and saying im blacklisting void interactive from now on. Just like I filtered out lgbtq+ games from my store.

Bought this game because it didn't pull any punches. Now they're pulling punches in order to sell out to consoles.

Remove the Censorship, keep the game like we bought. At least give us a option to return it to normal. If this tactical shooter is going to dumb down like all AAA games cant vote it up no more.

Gutless. Greedy. Tragic. Not listening to the community, supporters and backers that got your project this far. Void Interactive, we knew you were always a little spineless, due to behaviour patterns in the past, but now you have just sealed the fate of this formerly amazing project and likely pushed away insane amount of supporters for future endeavours. Well done. Great idea here. Remove all guns from the game. Replace them with water pistols and marshmellow launchers that have trails of rainbows and glitter. Replace all shouting and intense language, that creates an immersive experience, with laughter and gleeful giggles. It's not much more of a step than the Devs have already made as they show their backers a huge middle finger. Bravo, ladies and gents, bravo...
