Battle Chasers: Nightwar

Battle Chasers: Nightwar is a turn-based RPG based on the Battle Chasers comic series. The game follows a group of heroes stranded on an island as they uncover and attempt to thwart a dark sorceress’s plans. While the story is accessible, I feel that newcomers may miss character depth and reference given from the comics. I am reviewing this having never read the comics so I'm not sure how much it may add to the characters. Gameplay is strategic and satisfying, with a strong party system and unique mechanics like the Overcharge system, which allows for mana-free abilities. Exploration is enhanced by randomly generated dungeons and character-specific skills. However, excessive grinding, especially needing to replay dungeons at higher difficulties, can stall story progression. Visuals are a standout, boasting comic-style cut scenes, vibrant environments, and fluid animations. Sound design is solid, with impactful effects and competent voice work. The music, while good, lacks memorability. The story is decent but feels limited without context from the source material, and character development could be deeper. Pros: Beautiful art and animation Strategic combat with a smart and new Overcharge mechanic Well-executed sound effects and voice acting Cons: Heavy grinding disrupts pacing Music is forgettable Characters may feel underdeveloped Verdict: A good RPG with clever ideas, held back by pacing issues and a heavy grind. Worth a try for genre fans or readers of the comics—best picked up on sale.

The game is good, but unfortunately I can't recommend it because it's full of camera shake, and as an autistic adult, the constant camera shake during battles makes me dizzy and disregulated. The pacing is also kinda slow, but aside from that, the art style is great, the inventory management is pretty good, and the game is a lot of fun, but I had to stop playing it. There's also one song in the game that warbles from left-to-right, which also makes me nauseous when I'm playing, especially with headphones. I'm looking forward to seeing more from the developer, but I really hope that they consider accessibility moving forward.

기본 턴제 RPG에 서양 TRPG 조끔 섞은 느낌적인 느낌이랄까. 6명 캐릭터 중에 3명 골라서 팀을 짤 수 있는데 스킬 호환성이랑 스킬 트리 찍으면서 조합해보는게 나름 재미가 있습니다. 엄청 딥하거나 그러진 않으니 안심하시구요. (사실 초반 캐릭터 조합이 가장 안전하면서 좋달까..) 참고로 2회차 클리어 도과가 있고 모든 도과 중에 몬스터 도감 모으는게 가장 오래 걸리니 미리 체크하는걸 추천!
