I just finished the main game (100 % of the 3 base game maps) and planned on doing a longer review of this game. Although many things have been said before, what you can do, how punishing it is and how good the modding community is, I would like to focus on one thing: The mentality you develop. You go into this game expecting an off-road driving simulator with neat physics and a world to explore and things to do. And while this is technically true from start to finish, it's more of a problem solving game - puzzles, if you will. At its core the game will give you gradually more difficult problems to solve and unlocks more tools for you to use. For example the game says: "Here is item/vehicle X, it must go to Y." And this is it. The game (usually) doesn't care how you do it. It's up to you. And NOW the thought process ramps up. Because depending how you approach this task, it can go fast, slow, easy, difficult or even tedious.

What kind of truck am I going to use for the job, do I go for the faster or the stable one?
Or the slower one with better fuel economy, because I don't want to refuel on the way?
Do you think you might tip over? A small crane would help pick the things up right on the spot in that case.
But you don't know where it might happen, perhaps you should scout the roads to the destination?
Perhaps I should bring a small fuel trailer for my scout while I'm there anyway.
There are multiple roads to choose from, but one loops around, maybe there's a shortcut between the trees?
How thicc is my truck, will I be able to fit through this tree gap?
What about the cargo, what kind of trailer am I going to use anyway and will it be able to make this sharp turn over there?
etc.
So I feel that while the physics and graphics are great without a doubt, the core problem solving gameplay cannot be ignored to have fun. And as if that weren't enough, you can start with your own ruleset for a new game. You have the ability to go all unlocked full easy mode up to basically permanent game over due to softlocking yourself.

good game to just chill in discord call with your friends while driving trucks

The base game is fun enough. There's not a lot to say other than you drive from point A to point B, do your best to not get stuck or roll over, and deliver the supplies or rescue the vehicle. Anytime I see a game that offers DLCs or additional content that exceeds 5x the base game's value, I'm immediately turned off. Feels like the all too common Corpo greed that is ruining solid franchises across the industry. I get it, to a point, but it feels like this has surpassed that point.

yes and yes. I just bought the game and 1-4 year passes on sale for $75, and its well worth the money. So much content I may never get to it all.

I wanted to like this game, but it has some major issues that really hold it back. After 165 hours of frustration I'm done. The core idea is solid: get from point A to point B using whatever vehicle and route you choose. Simple concepts can work great. But unfortunately, that’s not the case here. Poor Physics The vehicle physics are extremely frustrating. Trucks flip over from the smallest bumps or rocks, even when driving at a crawl. Most of the gameplay ends up being spent either trying to rescue your flipped truck with another one or sending it back to the garage. Over and over again. On top of that, vehicles bounce unrealistically, especially on paved roads. They feel weightless, like toy trucks. Lack of Variety in Vehicles The default trucks (the "vanilla" ones) all feel very similar. If you want to make real progress, you're basically forced to use Russian trucks or buy DLC vehicles. Just check the forums. This is the most common advice, which says a lot. Uninspired Gameplay There’s no weather system, no voiceovers, barely any animations, and no story to speak of. That would be fine if the core gameplay felt solid, but with the physics being so poor, there's little to keep things interesting or immersive. Technical Issues This is the only game in my library, and I’ve been playing for years, that regularly fails to launch. Sometimes I get a black screen, and if it does start, it crashes while playing. These issues have only gotten worse with the latest patch. Final Thoughts: There’s a potentially great game buried under all of this. But it feels unfinished and frustrating to play. It feels little more than a DLC cash cow.

SnowRunner is like an old friend that you love spending time with. You can chat about anything, as much as you want and how you want. You understand each other from half a word. You enjoy socializing with him, you really enjoy it. You are never in a hurry, you are measured in the depth of your communication. You sit down when it's still light and get up when it's very dark. You feel this atmosphere, this kindness and warmth. And no homosexuality! Only strong male friendship.

I am literally not a truck person, this game made me like and appreciate trucks a lot more; to the point that I 100% the game and will continue to play the DLC in my free time. So much content that I feel on the discounted sale price I purchased this game for, is entirely worth it.

Absolute worst/best game of all time. Honestly one of the best thought out, realistic (physics wise) games on the market. For whatever reason though, the coop is insanely flawed. Connection problems, booting problems, steam problems, you name it. Works well about 20% of the time. The game is much better with friends, so this makes it pretty unplayable majority of the time. That being said, insanely good/bad game. Great/terrible job devs, you managed to make the most addictive game ever, break every time you play it. <3

fun and rewarding game but having my settings reset every time i log in and having to adjust my HUD and Steering controls gets tiring after hundreds of times after years of not fixing this issue. this massive waste of my time is why i do not recommend the game.

This game is tons of fun, IF you like slow paced games with an open world that will do everything it can to frustrate you. You have the freedom to tackle missions however you want, and also fail them however you want. Tons of content so depending on how much of a completionist you are, you might in the mud a long time.

Don't get me wrong, it's a great game. The graphics are decent, vehicle selection is solid, gameplay is punishing as quack, but that's exactly what you'd expect from such a game. The reason I cannot recomend it, is because after 5 years from release, this game is still buggy as quack. I appreciate developers adding new content, but it would be nice to have to old, often infuriating, bugs resolved. TL;DR It's a fun game, tainted by frustrating bugs and punishing players for things, that aren't their fault.

I was initially like "yay, trucks, spintires! woo!" and then got disappointed by a tutorial annoyingly on rails even when the game seemingly drops you in its open world and as someone who grew up around nature, farms and those muddy paths you have to traverse in this game? It is absolutely not worth the money IMO. Like yeah, guys, you improved since Spintires but holy fuck do 4x4s not get stuck so easily in the smallest piss puddle you can find. And that wouldn't be an issue if ppl wouldn't praise it for its realism. This isn't realism. So if the other reviews gave you that impression - let this be a way to tell you it's not if that's your main selling point.

Really fun and good game but the DLC prices are insane, once you buy a few you are already at the full game price with only (in best case scenario) getting a couple new maps and a few trucks

Frustrating, unoptimised, buggy, piece of shite game. Save your money and your sanity. A severe disappointment and it doesn't recommend me to any of their other titles. I'll be steering clear.

Simple, casual, and fun game play loop. Get truck, explore the area, complete contracts. Unlock more trucks by finding them broken on the maps and bringing them back to the garage for repair, or you can complete contracts to make money and buy the trucks from the in game truck store. Simple, fun and addicting if you like casual games.

Let me start off by saying wheel support is ABSOLUTE DOG SHIT. No H-Shifter support? Are you serious? This was accomplished pretty primitively in Mudrunner, but doable. I was decently excited to see new things and upgrade from Mudrunner. But it's just fucking worse. It actually pisses me off. I was hoping to see some slightly more realistic vehicle actions (I.E. Watching the rear driveshaft of a GMC Heavy Duty truck spin, while the rear tires do nothing is NOT how differentials and powertrains work). I couldn't even bring myself to play with it far enough to check out the road deformation because it's that bad. It's THAT bad. I have no reason to play this game if I can't at the least use the equipment to simulate driving a vehicle. There was support in Mudrunner, why was it insanely impossible to at least bring that janky support for my shifter over? It's not like having a shifter is a premium thing. G29 shifter is like $60 USD. I love the road deformation, and I've loved the concept of what the game tries to do, but here they've shifted too far out of the simulation factor I enjoyed that I can't even be bothered to play with this one. Back to Mudrunner for me.

They just can't keep this game working right. The game is also extremely finicky with mods and multiplayer. I've been told my mods aren't supported in multiplayer when I disabled mods and turned them off in a session. Currently the game thinks I have NO mods subscribed to but I have probably 24 or so. They don't show up in my enabled or subscribed list and I've re-installed the game 3 times plus many more file verification. They just can't keep this hot hunk of trash working long enough for is to enjoy it.

There's lots to do but it's repetitive. Deep mud is a pain and a very slow process and there's holes that flip your whole truck turning a quick trip into a 4 hour excursion. Trees at unnatural hairpin turning points make lots of routes literally impossible to pass with anything bigger than a scout so you're forced to actually complete 4 or 5 rock slides or bridges on your route just to complete one other quest. If you have patience for stupid physics that make you quit more than once on a single mission then this game is for you

I also have ETS2, and whenever i feel like i want to drive in harsher terrains, this is the absolute best option out of everything, the other options are things like mudruner etc, its really worth it, just make sure you really like grinding, getting stuck on random cutted trees you didnt see, rescuing in very harsh terrains, especially if you are in hard mode, and overall, trying not to flip over, real nice game ☺

less of a game and more of an exercise in tedium and frustration. I play plenty of 'job simulator' type games, so that's not the issue here; the issue is that driving through mud at 20 feet per minute and roads with a 4-foot left-right gradient that will tip your truck if you make the slightest mistake, forcing you to redo the entire (sometimes up to 20 minute-long) drive, either after respawning your vehicle or dispatching a second one to right it (assuming you're lucky enough to not have been carrying cargo, which will be spilled and force you to restart the entire job).

It's not exactly a sim - physics is wild, and in-game trucks are quite different from their real life counterparts. It reminds me much more of a childhood play with toy cars in a huge pile of sand, where Nm and km/L were not a consideration, 2 metres travel was a long range haul, and a trailer arriving to the destination on its side was acceptable. The game also has a few unexpected (and probably unintended) social commentaries, like a Russian flag livery for KamAZ to make a delivery in style to a Taymyr kolhoz unable to afford a gravel road instead of knee-deep ruts in mud, or Alaska pipelines being designed by someone who never seen oil pipelines but grew up among Soviet above-ground hot water piping.

How is the support for using a steering wheel with a mouse and keyboard in a game like this, this bad? An otherwise fun game ruined by frustrating, buggy controls. If you want to use a steering wheel, save yourself the frustration and look elsewhere.

One of the best games I played. Only one downside... game stutters/lags/freezes when it auto-saves, which happens frequently. I have high-end equipment. Without this "bug" I'd say 10/10 With it... 8/10

id recommend it if you like trucks and find the the technical nature of choosing the right truck and trailer and all the little details that accompany off-road and on-road driving id also recommend twm in the mods section his trucks are coded well and aren't game breaking like they aren't overpowered they are more capable but that's a reflection of the trucks irl the trucks in game are road trucks forced off-road his are fit for purpose and will get stuck if used improperly just like the games trucks.

It's like being a kid again and playing with trucks, except these trucks are digital, you customize them, and then get angry when they get stuck and fall over. Yet you'll sink hundred of hours into it. I'm not even 50% done with all the DLC. If this concept appeals to you, you'll get a lotta value for your money. Buying years can add up in cost, but sales help. Base game alone is still great and replayable, because the whole thing's a giant trucking sandbox.

sometimes there are no shortcuts in life. i tried to be efficient by doing a u turn after taking a cargo in michigan, it ended up making me bring in 2 trucks to rescue it. took me only 2 hours and a half Compared to the mudrunner game, snowrunner has better graphic but i feel like it lacks more effects and realism as in mudrunner.

So I'm a lot late to the party on this compared to some of you so I want to give some context. I tried Mudrunners first, wrote it off, then later skipped snowrunner and went to expeditions. I'm playing snowrunner right now alongside roadcraft. This is truly a new genre for me however I can really understand how fans of this game have strong opinions on expeditions and now roadcraft. All of these games feel extremely independent of themselves rather than a continuous series. There's features of each game where I can say "damn I wish this was in the other game!" The bar is set pretty high by this one. It's an absolute gem. I'm glad I'm playing this for the first time now having played the latest game

ahh yes, every type of pain is in this game. Fuel ending before gas station or mission point, randomly flipping over in the middle of no where, getting stuck for no reason, and [strike] buggy[/strike] funny multiplayer. This game is one big Stockholm Syndrome . You will always come back to this game.

The fun of the game is completing the mission... You strive to get vehicles that are better at completing the mission, aiming for the next best 8x8 or shiny new mudtires... And then you realize that the fun of the game was completing the mission when you had to work for it... ...You go back to the old trucks, the ones that made you feel something... ...and then you get stuck in mud (or flip over, or break one of your wheels on an innocent pebble... etc...) and ragequit, only to come back 15 minutes later, because we all know we have more fun dragging ourselves out of the mud than recovering to the garage.

if you're even reading snowrunner reviews on steam in 2025 or later, buy this game. wait for a discount if you need to. It's not a truck sim but it's not Forza Horizon With Trucks either. And lots of people may complain about it, but it does SO much right if you're looking both a meditative exploration game and a rewarding hauling game.
